Yes Autumn. Aly likes the "challenging" roles.

it definitely seemed aly's character was jonzing for nastassia's character. from the clips i saw it certainly made it more interesting for me to watch that fluidness than it being one way or another. it's like mischa does love lexi but just isn't in love with her but she's still very, very close with her. you dont really see that a lot in films. their freindship is what really matters. but then again from lexi's pov it kinda seemed like a caretaker/idolization role with mischa.

i cant believe with such a cool cast like that the film ended up in indie hell for years. what a shame when a script reads well but on screen its horrid. like *wild things*. i worked on the film and the script was soooo great. but they knew pretty much from the get go of filming that it wasn't going to turn out the way they wanted and camped it up. majorly. it's a bad movie. so much so my mum who read the script too was like *this is total crap!*

i'd really like to see the whole film but i guess i'll have to wait until it comes out on video here. and, btw, it didn't look *so* bad. but then again i haven't actually seen it all yet. hehe...

Hmm, never knew Aly considered it a mistake. She wasn't so bad. Now if I was Alexis I would hope no one would ever see this one. Ever.

Well, I don't know if Aly's ever actually said it was a "mistake." That was my word. But she has said more than once that she and Alexis were hiding in their trailers wondering what the heck they'd gotten themselves into while the director and producers fought over the vision of the film. So, it doesn't sound like she thought it was her best career decision ever. I don't think she's embarrassed by her performance or anything. She just didn't have the best time while making it because of the behind-the-scenes volatility going on.

I personally thought she did great in it. I wasn't trying to say she was bad at all. You could probably film Alyson doing laundry for two hours and she would make it interesting. No, Aly did fine and she, as usual, ripped my heart out with her pain in that death scene. Pain is your gift, Alyson. Sigh.

As for Alexis, someone who posts at HDC met him in February when Alexis presented a teacher's award at the college his mom teaches at in Seattle. He asked Alexis if BtCL would ever be released and I guess Alexis was very quick to say, "I hope not!" He then quickly added that Aly was very good in it, so Aly fans would probably enjoy it.

VDC Copy of BtCL

Postby Maj » Thu Apr 11, 2002 8:43 pm

Zerattakis & KISMIC: Sorry to hear both of you guys are not in Sydney. I do not have access to a burn and for that reason, I know nothing about burning VCD. All I know is this one was not burnt correctly and it will not work on a normal DVD player. I was told to use PowerDVD (which was also burnt on the VCD) to launch it and that works.

If you guys are really desperate, send me an email and we can talk, cause I don't mind mailing my copy to you guys, as long as I am assured to get it back.

So email me, and we will go from there,.. :)

Finally got the whole thing....

Postby TrueXena » Thu Apr 11, 2002 9:53 pm

Yup got the whole thing and watched the whole thing. (didn't even skip any scenes that didn't have Aly in it. Aint you proud?) :)

Anyhoo, as b movies go it's not all that bad really. I think there could have been a few things done differently in the begining, and I might have chosen a few different ways to shoot some of the scenes. But really it wasn't all that bad. (plus they forgot to ask me) :)

I believe someone else mentioned "once you get past the choppy and incoherant first half, the rest is pretty good" I'd have to agree with them.

I pretty much liked all the actors in this movie. I think they did a pretty good job with what they had to work with. And, I'll also agree with the assumption that BIG changes were made from the original script these people signed up to do, and what they actually got handed to do for each scene.

For me it was well worth the download. (but then I've been told I like strange shit, so take that with a grain of salt)

I'm not sure what clips people got to see from that web site. (as I didn't really wanna be spoiled before seeing the full movie) But I'm SURE you can't really get the feel of the whole movie from just watching clips from it.

Anyway, thats my take on "Beyond the City Limits". Worth the download if you've got the speed and time. And worth at least one rental if you can find it at a video store.

I knew i recognised that voice from somewhere!!! According to imdb.com , they have Ms. Hawkins listed as actually been in the cast... but i'm not too sure about that. But the lady that directed the movie, Gigi Gaston, also directed the documentary about Sophie from 1998 "The cream will rise".

I agree that Aly's acting was great and I thought that Nastassja's was excellent too, but it was the quality of the movie that wasn't so great. It definitely wasn't the worst film I've seen by far, and it wasn't difficult to sit through but I just didn't like it. I'm glad that I saw the clips though which I thought covered a lot of the movie. I think I'm still going to try to download it though.

I know nothing at all about that USEnet and all, don't understand it at all. Is there any possibility that someone could put it up (temporary) so I can download it. I don't care if it's with a website, or ftp, just as long as I can get the thing :)

thanks in advance

TX (may I call you TX?), did you see the trailer? Because there was obviously footage shot that isn't in the final edit. A kiss between Lexi and Mischa, for example. I think that's the root of the conflict between the director and producer -- they totally disagreed on how the story should be presented. And it definitely shows in the film. More so, in contrast to the trailer.

Scoobiedoo, she was in there. She was the rollerskating, leather-clad waitress who tries to blackmail Jennifer Esposito's character's husband, the cop-guy with the cocaine.

I'll tell y'all what I'm waiting for. I'm waiting for Don's Plum to find it's way to some online downloady thing. It's gotta just be a matter of time. I've watched the trailer a zillion times. I know Amber's part's not very big, and she's only in the trailer for about one second, but still. My gf is a newsgroup freak and I'm bugging her constantly to take a break from downloading obscure 80's songs (though I do love me some Echo & the Bunnymen!) to see if anyone's posting the film. Hope springs eternal.

They put a kiss in the trailer, but not the movie. Bastards. No wonder that relationship read the way it did.

Now, I CAN'T WAIT to get my hands on a copy. Thing is, a) I'm in New Jersey USA b) can't download too much at work cuz of firewalls and c) reason being I have an iMac with super slow connections..I need DSL Waaaaaaaaaaaaa

Postby VampNo12 » Fri Apr 12, 2002 5:58 pm

The way the relationship was presented in the film confused me. I knew Lexi was in love with Mischa, but I couldn't understand if the feelings were reciprocated by Mischa (or if she only considered her a very close friend). Now finding out there was a kiss in the trailer that never made it into the movie, makes me understand the relationship better. I guess the fight over direction was basically over the overtness of Lexi and Mischa's relationship, and in the end I guess they just went with the subtext. People who wanted to see a romantic relationship will see it, and the ones who only wanted to see a close friendship could view it that way if they so choose. For me personally, I think there was too much change from the script version to the actual version we see on film, that overall made a movie that could of been good into a bad film lacking direction.

Postby shellybean » Sat Apr 13, 2002 2:32 am

yeah, I saw the trailer but don't remember the kiss. Maybe it was just that it was so long ago. I think that Mischa was just really protective of Lexi and really loved and cared about her.

I agree about Nastassja's mouth, its so sexy. I just love her in everything I see her in, and that accent is really sexy too.

Y'know, upon rewatching the trailer, I think that thing I thought was a kiss just looks like a kiss because of the way it's shot. I assumed when I saw the trailer that it was a kiss and then when I saw the film, I thought, "Hey, where's that kiss?!?"

Damn me. Damn me to hell! :shy

Anybody want Beyond the City Limit?

Postby ssc » Sun Apr 14, 2002 8:21 pm

Hi all,

I downloaded BTCL from usenet, and since you all seem like very nice people here, I was wondering if anyone was interested in having it? At the moment, it's a bit too big to fit onto a single CD (716 MB .avi) but I am as I speak, er...type, trying to compress it. SO... the long and short of it is, reply here if you'd be interested in getting a copy of it; I do of course have limited time and/or resources so I probably won't be able to accomodate everybody, but I'll do the best I can.

I suppose I could be paid back for postage (I like priority mail) but details like that can be worked out later. Even better would be a trade for some key eps of Once and Again, but not necessary. I'm feeling generous today! :)

KISMIC: PowerDVD is just a software program that can play media files [not unlike Windows media player but better 'cause it can play individual VOB files etc better.] You can download it from somewhere but I can't remember where. As QoD posted, You can just use Media player.

You could use Nero to burn VCD 'cause I do [SVCD/Super VCD] you just have to choose the VCD format, that's it. A lot of DVD players CAN play VCD/SVCD format and ALL PC DVD players can [using software like PowerDVD and my favourite, cinemaster.]

Stop reencoding! It may be a 733Mb file, but because of the way the cd file system works it fits perfectly onto a 700Mb cd.

I've watched the Aly scenes and have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. The sound was pretty bad so I'm not sure if I heard right.

In a morning scene when Lexi is in a garden and Misha brings her a cup of coffee, does Misha refer to Lexi as "Mummy"? If so - is Lexi pregnant? To whom?

Actually after downloading all the rar files, and putting them all together the actual movie file was only 699mb. So it fit on one cd for me. (mind you this is an avi file and can only be watched on the computer, but still) :)

It's easily converted to an mpg and then can be burned to a vcd, if you have vcd compatible dvd player.

Granted vcd quality can be pretty poor.
