Season 4 Do Over Poll

i was wondering what the kittens would have liked to see if they could redo the willow and tara relationship during the fourth season. as in the exploration of how the friendship bloomed into a relationship from basically meeting in hush to willow coming out. what would have you liked to see and how would it have been handled.

for example i would have like to see more of the intense friendship blooming...and later turning into to romance but with more visual explanantion.

I actually liked the way it was handeled in cannon. Of course, more screen time would have been nice though.

Yes, I agree that I would have liked more screen time for the two of them but there it one thing in particular I would change. I feel that they went too fast with the magicks and that was part of Willow's problem later on. If season 4 was done over I would have liked them to go a little slower and for Tara to teach Willow more basics and stuff so that Willow would be less likely to abuse the magicks further down the road.

The Magic wasn't a problem until Joss Whedon decided to make it one. The WT time during season 4 was not as much as I would have liked it to be, but what it lacked in quantity was made up by quality. My biggest complaint would be the no kiss in NMR, but we can blame the censors for that, otherwise ME would have treated them equally like the 'individuals' they are.



I love every moment between WT until that last one which I will never watch, but season 4 definitely has some of my favourites.

I think Season 4 has got a pretty bad reputation, and it doesn't deserve to. "Hush" and "Restless" are 2 of the best-ever episodes, with of course some great W/T moments, and for me Season 4 was the last truly funny season of Buffy - Season 5 had its moments, but some of Season 4 is laugh-out loud stuff:



WILLOW: Thing haven't been right for a while... I mean, since you found out Tara was my girlfriend.

XANDER: No, it started way before that (double take) Tara's your GIRLFRIEND?!

GILES: (from upstairs, where he has retired, drunk): Bloody hell!



I agree a kiss in NMR would have been good, but I kind of like the way they handled it with the candles blown out... I was watching that in my college TV room and all the guys in the room went "Aw! No!" when they didn't get to see any hot girl-on-girl action...



Stil the fanficcers have filled in the gaps...

I liked a lot of how it was handled in S4. Perhaps a bit more touchy-feely-kissy and a bit less of the magic-as-metaphor woulda been nice, but in some ways it did actually keep things nice and subtle- a touch the show has long since lost.



And despite some nice physicality for the girls in S6, I'd take S4 over S6 in a heartbeat.

Well the metaphors were great, but I would have liked to actually see their first kiss. And to know when they had their first time (from the show itself not some audio commentary on the DVD). That kind of stuff.



But I guess the bluriness really encouraged lots of people to write great fics, so instead of one first kiss we get tons. So maybe it's not too bad after all

i shall second on the first kiss..and of course the first, well first...you get the idea... i just wanted to see more of the venture from friendship to lovers....i would have liked to see more of how willow felt and how she relized what tara made her feel.

Hmm with season four the only large part I would want changed would have been to show much, much more of their 'friendship stage', because other than them doing magic together you never saw them do anything else in the beginning - what happened to the days where when you made a new friend you'd have sleep overs and go to the movies!!





With 'NMR' the only thing I'd change is LESS INITIATIVE! I love that episode but they could have filled the Initiative screentime with ANYTHING else and I would have been much happier with it. It just annoys me because you have a great W/T scene then BAM your bored to tears with the Initiative. Kinda broke the flow and feel of the episode. Though I don't really need a kiss at the end, I was happy with what was shown.





Possibly more W/T hugs might have been nice throughout the season

Season 4 is my favourite season! All it's Willow/Tara moments are great!!! Love Hush, New Moon Rising, and all of the others, you know rose scene, floating O *swoons*... though total aggreement, that a kiss at the end of NMR, would have been good, but we still go to feel the intimacy, so I liked it still "you mean? I mean..." god! I love that!!!

Going on a bit of a tangent here...

As I've said before, I'm a bit of a romantic, so while I too would have liked more screen time as their relationship developed, I did like the subtlety of what we saw on screen.

However, I was having an interesting conversation with my girlfriend last night. I kind of felt that from the tone of the stories in S4, that T + W didn't kiss til the candle was blown out at the end of NMR.

However, my girlfriend felt that some of the symbolism used when they performed spells was so strong as to suggest they were already lovers.

So I'd like some feedback here- when do u think W + T stopped being friends and started (physically) being lovers?

i agree, it would have been nice to have seen w/t's first kiss. for some reason i thought that right before tara blew the candle out in NMR that we got to see thier shadows kiss (you know light from the candle casting a shadow on the wall sort of thing) and they editted it when it was re-aired later. this may just be my overactive brain filling in the stuff that we'd really like to have seen. so for those of you who have the dvd when did they say w/t had their first kiss?

Yes Paul, more screen time, better development of their relationship as friends and lovers, and of course more physicality!!! People like love stories and there's was one of the greatest.



I would have liked to have seen a few episodes devoted just to them, say like a day in the life of Willow covering all the basics of her day (classes, getting to know Tara, dealing with snotty Buffy and her Riley sexcapades, maybe practicing her spells, having a runin with that wicca group's cookie sale, etc.). Tara was so underdeveloped as a charachter. The stories that could have been told about her, her freaky family, her mysterious mother and her powers. Why not have the Scooby gang go to Alabama to deal with the freaky demons they have down there! Man, M.E. really dropped the ball in a lot of ways. But, I digress... Season 4 was still great tv and I enjoyed it thoroughly, just felt it could have been more.

Definetly, as many have said before, the girls' first kiss. That would have been lovely. On a non-W/T front, no Initiative (Adam was KING of all lame big badness) and less Riley- including all sex of the Rileyish nature. But I would have adored seeing Willow and Tara's first kiss and I Can't. Stress. That. Enough. But I thought season four was a pretty great season, the above-mentioned items aside, and although missing out on the first smooch of our girls sucked, I liked how the relationship was sweet and subtle unlike most on that crappy show.

I don't think it's possible to improve the way W/T was handled in S4...except maybe more kisses! I'd like to have known exactly when their relationship started-my boyfriend and I were having an argument the other day to that effect. He says it must have started after the flaming O spell (which he refers to as 'the Orgasm spell') and I say before that...

I agree on the whole 'more friend-ship' front of the relationship - and I definitely feel they deserved WAY more screen time. And kisses, ofcourse .



Generally, though, I think the way the relationship was staged and handled was excellent! It made me go "Awwwwwww!" every time they said something to one another.



I like to believe their relationship started in New Moon Rising, and they were kind of crushing to a large extent in the earlier episodes. A lot!

By the way advertisment: on the whole timing of frienship-turned-ship thing, I really reccomend you read The Beginnings Cycle by Katharyn, over at Pens. Its a really good fic and the best 'filler' I've seen so far.

W/T got physical way before the end of NMR, I believe that TIIT was their first time (Willow coming home with the Doll's Eye crystal) but even if people want to argue that point, there's no arguing that in the DVD commentaries Joss says that the Flaming O (in Who Are You) was their first on-screen love scene, so by the time the candle was blown out, W/T were very familiar with each other
