Postby patzw » Sun Apr 01, 2012 10:12 am

Today there's this google hangout event happening to get subscribers for Felicia Day's new youtube channel Geek and Sundry.

Now Felicia Day just tweeted this:

Did I mention there's a panel with @scalzi @amber_benson and Patrick Rothfuss at 2pm about creating characters? http://Gplus.to/geekandsundry

So if you're on Google Plus, make sure to be there at 2pm PDT and have your twitter open and ready ;)

Full Schedule: http://geekandsundry.com/google-hangout ... announced/
2:00pm – Novel Writer’s Panel: “Creating Great Characters” with Patrick Rothfuss (Name of the Wind), John Scalzi (Old Man’s War), Amber Benson (Death’s Daughter)

edit to add: You don't actually need to be signed up for Google Plus to be able to watch :)

Man, I was just on my way over to post this.

Hopefully the video will be less wonky by the time Amber's panel comes on.

Yeah, I hope so too. The video reminds me of the quality of WT clips I used to watch, back when I still had a dialup connection ;)
But either way, I'm looking forward to it.

This panel on creating characters has now been posted on YouTube.

Something that they talked about that I thought was really interesting was basically a 'fan fiction test': a minor character is sufficiently fleshed out when you can write fan fiction about her.

I'm hoping to sit down and rewatch this, pausing to write down all the books they name, but I know that Gregory? Mcdonald's Fletch is described as "a master class on writing dialogue" and they also frequently mention Stranger in a Strange Land.
