This has been linked to in the Race You to the Bottom thread.

However, the interview does have one line that Amber said before on a radio show:

And I’ve got to say, I wish I was a lesbian, because I would get lucky every night of the week for the rest of my life.

To that, I'd have to say: "Honey, being a lesbian is irrelevant; you should be getting lucky every night!"

Yeah, I figured it would be somewhere. This board is just so Big (and Wonderful) that I didn't see the link when I did a remedial search for it.

On that note, this made me giggle: And you think, ‘Why can’t I find a heterosexual man who dresses well, treats me well, has a real career? Where are they?’ (but I am hoping she was just exaggerating for effect the "treats me well" bit.)

I could go nut-so deconstructing those statements but we need to rememeber the definiton of OT here, as common courtesy if for no other reason.

Hey DaddyCat. Well, I started this particular thread. And I started it so that folks could read and perhaps discuss this one particular interview w/ our beloved Amber. I loved the interview mostly for the one quote that HAS been quoted quite a bit on this thread so far. So I say, deconstruct all you want. (Unless there is another Kitten rule that overrides my proclivities).

The woman just gets more and more interesting. I really do love that she decided not to come back to Buffy, which she referances here. It shows a lot of respect for what she helped create. It was like a last nod to Tara.

GoodWitch; board policy is specualting about Amber's or Aly's personal lives is soemthign we don't do here and the whole "Well if she said this what does it mean about that" sort of thing falls under that heading.

There was a good amount of chat at whedonesque when this was posted there about Amber 's "We own our sexuality" statement since that isn't apaprently the sort of thing heterosexual people say veyr much. The way I ehard that was just because a person belongs to what our society considers a "default" category doesn't mean a person doesn't think about their sexuality or race or gender or etc. Exactly how I'd expect aMber would feel..

(Okay yes i think she ahs a habit of speaking in very widely inlcusive terms but there's nothign wrong with that.)

I was a prime instigator of that discussion thread, dca, but I did so for good reason, inasmuch as people were trying too hard to ferret out what she meant, and the possible ways to read her comment were open to deconstruction and interpretation. Even you do the same thing here when you offer your own reading of what she said. The bottom line is that even though she does plainly state that she is not gay, some people do not believe her because of statements like the one you brought up- and you have to understand that what is at root here really has nothing to do with Amber Benson; it has to do with validation of people's lives as reflected in the character she played and the importance that character had in people's development and self-identification. They identify with her, but the question of sexuality still hangs out there for some folk, and the question gets in the way of how they establish a tie to Tara, and ergo to Amber as well.

With regard to this line of discussion here, if we can't make quick throwaway comments like the one I did about Adam Busch, where are we? It was a joke that had no bearing on her life, real or imagined. I don't give a hoot about who she hangs with; I don't know her and never will and care about her only to the extent that I care about all humans, including the ones who have taken roles in shows that I really love.

Well, I guess I got more serious than I normally do, but I guess going to London for a one-day meeting just takes it out of you. Yes, one day. Left Wed evening frm the middle of America, got there Thursday morning, met on Friday and came home early Saturday. How dumb is that? :-)

I think DaddyCatALSO’s comments were possibly directed at me.

What tickled me about that quote from Amber was the mention of looking for a man who “dresses well” and it is certainly commonplace on this board (and elsewhere) to criticise Adam Busch for his attire so I found it amusing.

Unfortunately, the rest of the quote mentions being treated well so I just said as an aside that I hope she is treated well…which I do...as I hope everyone is.

I apologise if my remark is considered unseemly.

I think the comment was being addressed to me as I was attempting to give permission to throw out conjecture in this thread regarding some of the things Amber said in the interview.
For me, who has been "Out" for decades and who Really Gets It that actors are NOT the characters they portray, I sometimes like to have a good time with the neat things my favorite actors and actresses say in interviews. And even tho' this interview was short, Amber certianly said some neat things.
I have also thought that, being a lesbian has NOTHING to do with getting "lucky" every night of the week... (heaven knows it hasn't helped ME in that arena) BUT I Also 'get it' that if it was Amber who was gay, she Would get lucky every night, given how many of us would line up for the chance! I thought that was a cute line when she said that but didn't read anything more into it than that.
And are lesbians really better dressers?

I wasn't aiming the comment at anything except my own tendency to try reading "meta-meanings" into ordinary words :-). I 'm the sort who needs to remind myself of things...where other people can her or read it... :blush . And no, short jokes aren't a problem either..in fact here in the 21st Century (egads I well remember when that was just a TV series title) they're as crucial as vitamins to get thru a week!

Well you've got to give Amber marks for trying, she almost had me convinced she'd love to be a lesbian if only it weren't for the small problem of her preference for men, even ones that don't dress well, treat her well or have a real career, who will still love her, she hopes, even when she throws them to the lions, I mean kittens (much more scary) :kdevil
