I'm hopefully going to see this tomorrow, so just for the record, here's my feelings now... TBH, I don't think I'll enjoy this. It's not my kind of humour at all, and the trailer only does nothing to convince me that this film is going to be funny. However, I'm quite happy to go just to drool over Alyson :drool , and I'm not dead-set against the film or anything, just skeptical, so I'll keep an open mind and hopefully I'll be pleasently surprised.

Oh dear god. That was DREADFUL. I knew it wouldn't be my kind of humour, but that was beyond bad, beyond crude, beyond cringeworthy, that was just... Excuse me while I go to wash the taste of vomit out of my mouth. :mad :gnome

Only three slightly redeeming features -
- The Notting Hill reference at the end, where the guy gets the girl's line. That was the only genuinely humourous spoof in the whole thing.
- The appearence of Tom Lenk. I love him. That man is a god and can do no wrong. :bow
- The hotness of Aly. :drool

Too bad. Had a feeling it wouldn't be worth the ten dollars. Eh, I'll just wait for it to come out on DVD and netflix it (yay netflix!). Or with any luck, my brother will buy it -- it seems like his type of humor.

guys please don't hate me but i actually liked the film... not only because alyson is in it, but i was laughing along with the other moviegoers throughout most of the film... in my country, we are used to that sort of comedy, so i'm not too shocked through parts many of you might have been... i really enjoyed my time watching the movie and can't wait for DVD to come out, so i can have a copy of my own...

i hope this movie paves way for more aly movies in the near future...

Actually, I think that the Pie movies paved the way for her to be in Date Movie. Date Movie has not been a smash at the box office, although it has made enough to justify its expense. But the critics mostly hated this movie and I doubt it will be a springboard for any of the actors.

Most of them were already established actors, though. Then again, most of the critics also said that it was a mistake for them to have been in it, and that their careers may never recover.

I love Aly, but this is not a movie that is going to help advance her career. Most of the reviews I have read, over on rottentomato, have rated the flic very poorly; however, Aly is usally given some good words for trying hard in the face of a terrible script. I suppose that what this does for her is put around $4 million in her pocket, but that is a short-term gain for a long-term disadvantage. I wish she would turn her attention to more dramatic acting. I loved her in Buffy, liked her in AP movies, and do not watch HIMYM because she can do that role in her sleep.

Dana:I see your point and agree with it as such but, let's face it, what is being made out there these days? Lifetime MAde-for-TV movies can only hire so many people, and a lot of features film outside TV hiatus or over long periods which make it impossible for someoone with a series commitment.
I don't see this as being a long-term loss for Aly, given how she was treated in the reviews.
As I've said, if some network would do a Susan Hayward bio-pic, or if Sci-Fi would do a mini-series based on Stirling's _Conquistador_ or any number opf other solid projects I can't even imagine. But that kind of quality isn't outt here except in tiny numbers.

DVD Monthly are saying that the DVD is going to have a commentary track with the main cast which will presumably include Aly. Unfortunately there's also an 'anti-commentary' from some film critics. They did that on the Matrix DVDs and I really didn't like it. I don't buy a DVD to hear people rubbish it.

Has anyone picked up the DVD yet? Personally, I'm waiting till it gets below ten bucks, which I think will happen by the end of the year.

I just listened to the actor commentary, and it's so-so. Mainly because the actors were given a list of things that they couldn't talk about. So pretty much everything they spoofed they had to talk about in code.

They also had the writers and director commentary as well as the anti-commentary, but I didn't watch that. You also get the option to watch the movie with a laugh track....

The whole dvd is pretty aimless and dull.

I got it the other day. And the bonus features definatly weren't worth buying the dvd for. But I still liked the movie anyway. Mainly because Aly is in it.....

From the Hollywood Reporter:

The two top spots on the national DVD sales chart for the week ending June 4 went to newcomer "Date Movie," from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, and Buena Vista Home Entertainment's "High School Musical," still selling strong its second week in stores. "Date Movie" also topped Home Media Retailing's video rental chart for the same week, generating a healthy $9.6 million in rental revenue, or nearly 20% of its theatrical earnings.

I love Alyson Hannigan! Hence, I actually watched this on DVD this weekend. I was thrown by it, but I'm also getting ready to brace myself and watch Rip It Off aka Beyond the City Limits (which also has her sexy husband in it, natch), which I've heard sucks the Atlantic Ocean through a hose and back again.

The movie was funny, but only if you've seen all the movies that are spoofed in it. The extras are also worth owning the DVD. It made me want to roll drunks, seriously.

I also, sincerely doubt that Alyson Hannigan was doing this movie to advance her career. I think she did it because it was fun, and possibly for whatever chump change they were paying her. I would have done it myself to get the chance to work with Jennifer Coolidge and Eddie Griffin. I'd really like to see Aly hit the Alist with her mad skills and get an Oscar or a Tony, but if its not in the cards I'll just enjoy the ride.

Assuredly, she did not work for chump change. I do not know what she made for this, but she reportedly made close to $4 mil for American Wedding, so one has to assume she still made well over a million bucks, which is serious money- at my salary, it would take me over 10 years to get there, for what she made for maybe 2 months work. I don't think this will either hurt or advance her career; those who know her work, know what she is capable of, and when she decides she wishes to do drama, she will likely find producers and directors willing to work with her. However, she has clearly stated she prefers comic work for the moment, which is why she chose to do HIMYM.

What is surprising to me, and OT, is that her husband has not found significant work since Angel ended. AD is a fine actor, and while it is possible he is not looking, I think it more likely that he is at that mixed age (around 40) where directors prefer to use established film names.

She showed that she can open a profitable movie, 99.9 % of the actors in the movie biz would like to be able to do that. This is good for her career. Some years ago it was stated the average yearly salary for a sag member was $5,000 , i sure it is 2 or 3 times that amount now,but that is what her main competition can do.

I only finally saw this film in its entirety when I obtained the "unrated" version of the DVD (for free, as it happens). I know I am giving away my age by saying this, but this is really not my sort of comedy. The fact is that many of the critics were right: it is not "satire" if you just repeat a funny bit from another movie--the best "spoof" comedies generate enough of their own humor (e.g. the marvelous "Airplane").

Of course the only reason to have this DVD is AH, whose marvelous comic timing and facial expressions are in a class by themselves. I have no doubt that she earned substantial bucks from the enterprise, but even if we don't get to see her in an "A/A+" drama, why couldn't she at least be in a "classier" sort of comedy? While it's a sad truth that Hollywood is no longer producing the wonderful "screwball" comedies that were such gems of the 30s and 40s (e.g. "Bringing Up Baby" etc), I think she has the "chops" and the "clout" to aim higher than this.

I know that old coots like me are not the intended audience for this sort of flick, but it is only out of genuine admiration that we sincerely wish that she were starring in something better....

Yeah, such a pity he's not getting much work. I'd love to see Aly and Alexis starring in a movie together. The next Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant?

Saw the movie yesterday- didn't expect Tom Lenk to be in it! lol
It's not the best movie in the world, by far, but it's not nearly the worst. Lol.

Was disappointed that the scene where Aly's AJ with the pout and the black dress (From Mr & Mrs Smith) wasn't there :S Did i miss it? Cuz i was looking out for it, but i don't think it was there. Is it in the extras??
What's your sign?
