Could W/T steal the show?

Anything about Willow & Tara, Alyson Hannigan and Amber Benson.

Oh hey, c'mon, Dawn is really cool. How bad can anyone be that's been raised by two loving Moms. She was cheering along with the rest of us for the reunion, and she's the one that got to express our joy at seeing them back together. She's one of us.

But yeah, W/T could and did steal the show. I hear what's planned for BtVS next season, and it just sounds hollow. Pointless. I love Willow but I won't tune in to watch a devastated Willow. Been there and have no desire to go there again. A resurrected "Tara" show would do well on cable. She could travel around the world to exotic and landscapey places investigating psychic phenomenon, and her friends and family could make special guest appearances (just never in the opening credits). Oh and of course Willow would always be at her side and every episode would end with W/T in bed in each others arms.

***************

"You should have been there?" Tara’s temper was barely in check. "No, you should have been there when Willow was growing up and needed a mother."

scenarios

1. Infamous season sux never happened. after season five, W&T took Dawn out of Sunnydale for her own safety. They decided to move to ... New Orleans! Because it was far away, and they'd heard about some kind of a coventhingy there that got them interested. But they get more than they bargain for! Oh yes! It evolves into a Wolfram-and-Hart style organisational-enemy and enables the subtle, coherent and pointful (oh, I'm not digging, oh no - oh all right, I am.) exploration of abuse-of-magic issues. Plus plenty of Monster of the Week. Less demony and more psychological, but with a strong core of W/T love to give it some heart. Plus their attempts to protect Dawn, which give it extra tension. D actually develops as a character, as opposed just stagnant whining. Mature, stylish, scary. Meanwhile, the BBC is making Ripper. There are lots of crossovers.

Suggested Titles: 'The Family'?

2. The evil people have their way, and W/T end s.s. apart. She decided they needed more time to deal with their issues and for her to develop her own magic powers. She moves out to - ooh, I don't know, somewhere. More parallel to 'Buffy' itself in an exploration-of-female power kind of a way. Tara fights evil without buying in to the ways that evil things describe power. More moral, possibly an environmental theme like that new comic thingy, she provides a strong role model for younger audiences. The prospect of a lefty lesbian role model shocks the far-right, who are powerless ha! ha! Meanwhile as season seven goes on Willow works her way back more completely to a proper understanding of magic, facilitated by lots of chemistryful visits over to Tara in somethingland. When Season7 ends, the emphasis isn't on SMG leaving and the end of 'Buffy' O no! That's just a subplot. Instead it's on a cunning supercrossover in which the series kind of merge for a bit as Willow and Tara realise they belong together and the foundations are laid for Tara: the Series season 2.

Suggested Titles: Goddamit, I can't think of any good ones. Any ideas?

I’m game. Tara and Willow have what it takes to go a little deeper than the permanent apocalypse rerun (that as much as I might bash, I’m still a sucker for) that rounds up every BtVS finale. plus, intensely liking the “Dawny has two mommys” prospect. She’s good at doing the teenager and she could take this far.

A perfect idea (besides making W/T the focal point, of course) would be to center the show around the FIVE characters of Willow, Tara, Faith, Anya and Cordelia (rescued from the ludicriousness known as "Angel") as a sort of Supernatural Demon/Crime-fighting Force set in Sunnydale, with the Magic Box as their base-of-operations.

Willow would obviously be the Leader, often conflicting with Faith the Fighter over the best way to handle their problems, with Tara the wise and noble mediator of the group. Anya would remain the shopkeeper, whose expertise in handling the money ensures that the store maintains a tidy profit to fund their organization while her knowledge of demons continues to aid their work. And Cordelia would carry on her role as "vision-gal" put to better use in Sunnydale as opposed to L.A. But that's just my idea.

Ok, as long as we're posting story ideas (and we all know I'm *all* about the story ideas), here's mine:

With the death of Buffy at the end of Season Five, came the end of the show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer- with two maybe three extra scenes at the end.

One would be of Buffy's remote graveside service, beautifuly shot in the Segoya (sp?) National Forest, with majestic woods and streaming shafts of late afternoon daylight, contrasted by deep shadows. Giles giving a simple, dignified euology.

Next would be a slow second story pan in on the Summers home (there is a For Sale sign out front), in through the window of Dawn.

We see her crying softly but freely, frequintly wiping away her tears as she begins a new journal.

We hear her voice-over as she is writing, about what heroes both her Mother and Sister were, if not to the world, than at least to her. Her tears become sobs as she wonders what could she possibly do to ever measure up to their example, what could she do to carry on their legacy.

Her sister *died* for her. She wonders bitterly if she was worth it.

Willow and Tara quietly enter her room at this point, and Dawn looks up to them, eyes pleading.

"What do I do now? Who am I supposed to be? I was so proud of them, I want to make them proud, I want to.. but there is no them, anymore, is there?"

She is racked with tears now, as Willow and Tara gently hold her.

As Tara smooths Dawn's hair, Willow coo's "sshhh, honey. We're here. *We're* here.."

Then, without anyone noticing, the room begins to glow a soft emerald green..

Last scene would be of Faith in prison, asleep in her cell in the wee hours of the morning.

She is suddenly rousted by a guard who tells her "she has company"; the camera pans up, and it's Travers. He is looking extremely uncormfortable.

"We have to talk".

The end, roll credits..

Eeks, that's it for the moment- gotta do some work. But I'll finish before the night's out!

The new show, much like the original Buffy, would open months later, in New Orleans, during the spectacle that is Madi Gras, and.. the wedding of Xander and Anya! If there was a place and time that would make *both* the bride and groom' guests look tame by comparison, this would be it!

It would be set in the French Quarter, either in the beautiful park there, or that great open-air cafe (it's been a loooong time since I've been there, I've forgotten the names- sorry!).

The whole affair would be romantic, madcap, and visualy spectacular, as the story would follow both the antics of the preperation of the wedding, and of Willow and Tara (and Dawn) exploring this new and exhilarating inviroment, packed with sensual mystery and dark, sensuous magicks!

I see a particularly steamy dream-like sequince shot in soft, amber light, with Willow and Tara dressed in white lacey Victorian under-things- peticoats, unlaced bodices, etc- each with hair pinned up but with loose ringlets hanging about their faces, lounging on a *huge* Victorian-style four poster bed, just.. kissing. Slowly, senuously, tenderly, with no other movement, as the camera slowly moves around and over them, the overhead brass ceiling fan casting shadows.

Er.. *ahem*.

I also see a sequince of Dawn on the town, arm wrestling biker mamma's under the table, learning how to soft-shoe and tap-dance with sweet old gentlemen, leaving a big tray of finger-foods in the old mausolium for it's "inhabitants" (old New Orleans tradition), and getting cute guys to flash *her* for colored beads.

They are discovering their joy, discovering their selves, and most importantly..

they've found their home.

New characters would be introduced, Giles would be re-occurring (which would make more sense and be less of a sticky situation in this case).

And at the end of the two-hour premeire, in walks Faith. by episodes end, Anya, Xander, and Spike are all packed off to their own ultimate destinations- the happy couple back to Sunnydale, Spike back to England..

Giles might stick around a couple of episodes, though..

You know when i thought of this , I always thought of heart to heart, of course I didn't think a network would want to do this with a gay couple. I was wrong.

ABC Watching the (Gay) Detectives

Tue, Nov 12, 2002 03:47 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - ABC, having had some success with second runs of USA's "Monk," is looking to develop a lighthearted detective show of its own.

The premise of the new show is similar to that of "The Thin Man," or ABC's 1980s series "Hart to Hart" -- a pair of amateur sleuths who solve crimes while taking a break from their regular jobs. The difference this time is that the two leads are a gay couple.

Alan Cumming ("The Anniversary Party," "X-Men 2" ) has signed on to star in the show, tentatively titled "Mr. and Mr. Nash," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show is being developed for next season by Steve Martin and Joan Stein, through their company Martin/Stein, and "That '70s Show" producers Carsey-Werner-Mandabach.

"We have all enjoyed ['The Thin Man's'] Nick and Nora and we thought that Nick and Nick would just be a fun spin and add a new color and flavor to the detective form," Stein says.

In "Mr. and Mr. Nash," Cumming and his fellow lead will play a pair of interior designers who fall somewhat haphazardly into detective work. Robert Palm ("Law & Order," FOX's upcoming "Keen Eddie" ) is writing the pilot and will also get an executive producer credit

Saw that on Zap2It as well.

Anyone out there still think a W/T show wouldn't work?

Ha!

I have talked to fans that are not admittitedly not fans of W/T and even they see the potential of a W/T show.

Just as long as Joss Whedon has NOTHING to do with it.

To the detractors that say it could be done with out Joss. Buzz, thanks for playing Intelectual Property slots, but Fox owns the characters.

Wait....interior designers...tell me that doesn't say interior designers.

I suppose I should wait to see it before I get all upset, but that fact alone fills my head with red flags. Interior designers.

God, you know, in addition to my blinding rage that, yet again, a network is getting behind a show about gay men (when most of the portrayals of LGBT characters are already of gay men), I'm also struck by a weird sense of relief, in a way. Because what in the world would that show be like if they were lesbians? Part of me is almost relieved that I won't have to find out.

Having said that, though, it's downright disgusting that lesbians are so ignored. Furthermore, the other half of the LGBT community is even more ignored. Don't get me started.

And, yeah, Willow and Tara could have had their own show and it could have been fantastic. See Pens. There you go, right there.

I hear you Holley, the only trans people I have seen so far on non Dutch TV have either been on Jerry Springer or subjects to be mocked or killed on Ally McBeal.

This show could be a good thing, but it could also be another potential disaster. Let's wait and see if these guys will end up being non stereotypical and will actually be shown to have something resembling a sex life. We'll see. If it will be good then I will be happy about it as it may make the next show a bit easier and hopefully that show will feature lesbian lead characters and maybe one day they will throw in a few trans characters.:p

I agree there are plenty of stories on the Pens that show WT could easily have supported their own show. I have always believed that. As it is they have been wasted and destroyed for nothing by people who do not have a clue as to what they meant. It would make the lives of people who are struggling with being lesbian/gay/bi/trans just a bit easier if they could switch on the TV and realize they are not the only one and to see someone like them who is good, happy and in love and not someone who is evil, miserable or getting killed. A little hope isn't a luxury. It would also help those who don't know shit about LGBT matters to understand a little more so they won't keel over from shock if a friend or relative turns out to 'be one'.

Mmm, so very muchly. When BtVS started going rotten, I began to only watch for W/T anyway. Even though it wouldn't make very intresting television for anyone else, I would love to just see them being all in love, having a normal life together. Trying to get money for laundry, cooking together, smooching, finding an apartment together somewhere far far away from Sunnydale. Or else they could be Witch-y detectives. Solving crimes, being cute and in love, la di da. Anya could go with, Giles too, but it would be mostly about our girls. I just wouldn't want anymore W/T torture. Something happily-ever-after for once.

I'd buy commercial time (if, of course, I had the money and a product to hawk)!

I'd restrict the additional carry over cast to Dawn and Anya and definitely set it in a more urban setting (the first indication that the characters in the spin-off are smarter than the original is getting as far away from the hell-mouth as possible). How about Willow and Tara setting up a small magic shop in direct competion to Ethane Raynes (sp?) for a little long term conflict. A few colorful characters to round out the cast and an occassional guest appearance by an old alumnus (Faith or Dru, during sweeps of the first season) and its already got more going for it than most shows on the tube.

Call the show "Under Your Spell" and use part of Amber's rendition from Once More w/feeling during the opening credits.
