Unseen: The Burning

Postby Nouvelle » Sun Mar 24, 2002 4:37 pm

I was lurking on the message boards at The Essence of Amber and it seems Tara has made it into print. She and Riley both show up in one of the Angel books called Unseen-The Burning. I guess it's a Buffy/Angel crossover that takes place in Sunnydale during season four.

Woo and Hoo- that is so, so kewl. Now I just wonder how she'll be handled/described. Will they tiptoe around the girlfriend issue, refering to her mostly as Willow's "friend" or will they acknowledge the nature of the relationship?
(I only ask because many of these books seem geared towards a fairly young audience.)

I know she's making it in an upcoming Buffy book too. Chris Golden was talking about it. The book was set in the future.

Chris Golden said in an interview that the books alternated monthly between teen and adult target audiences. Some of them say "young adult" on the cover and in the blurbs.

I was very disappointed in the first Buffy novels i saw, but i've found a couple worth reading.
The Gatekeeper Trilogy is not bad. If you're expecting something that reads like it was written by Joss or Marti though, forget it.

Some other adult novels in the series are: Obsidian Fate, Immortal, Sins of the Father, Resurrecting Ravanna.

It's a good book; I've already read my copy three times. And yes, she is unequivocally Willow's girlfriend in the story.

First mention of Tara, on page 6:

quote:

Willow had been hanging with her girlfriend Tara pretty much nonstop since finals week, and Buffy . . . well, Buffy hadn't been far from Riley.

She's referred to as "Willow's girlfriend, Tara" the second time she appears, Willow gets referred to as Tara's "sweetie," and it's all just very cool.

They've got a couple of very sweet scenes together, and there's some cool introspection from Tara's point of view. I also very much like the fact that she's in on the action, and actually gets a lot of attention from the writers in her scenes.

It's actually a Buffy/Angel crossover novel set between seasons four and five--it's summer vacation for our collegian Scoobies.

"Yeah . . . and what are they trying to say about our relationship, anyway?"

Yeah, there will be two sequels. "Unseen" is a trilogy, of which "The Burning" is the first book. The second, "Door to Alternity," will be out in July. I don't know the release date for "Long Way Home" yet. But as far as I'm concerned, July's too far off as it is! What with the sequel to this book coming out then, and the "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" movie . . . oooh . . .

*chuckle* I actually spent the past five days scouring all the Barnes and Noble and Borders bookstores between Glendale and Northridge (repeatedly, in a stalker-y way) until one of 'em finally got it in stalk . . . er, stock.

Amazon.com should have it, and so should Barnes & Noble Online. I was looking on there, but decided I would rather spend time driving around than wait for a package to come in the mail.

And I picked up my copy at the Northridge mall Borders. The B&N, being a little further from school, was going to be my second resort if Borders didn't have it, which they did.

Though I might have to drop in and stalk more often.

All I can say is it is about time the novels entered season four onwards. I hope that more novels will show our girls as a couple.

Lets even hope for a Willow and Tara novel, that would be magic.

quote:

She smiled to herself. A lot had changed since high school. Jut leaving home, going to college, did that.

Most especially, finding Willow changed her.

My personal favorite scene:

quote:

Twenty minutes later, Salma had packed a couple of bags and was standing by the doorway with them. Tara and Willow sat together on Salma's couch.

"Be careful, Willow," Tara said, taking Willow's hand in hers. She looked into her friend's sea-green eyes, touched her cheek tenderly. Willow's red hair brushed against the backs of her fingers. "Do a warding spell for the car."

"I will," Willow replied softly. "You be careful, too, Tara. We don't know what this is. If anything happened to you . . ." She trailed off, and Tara's answering smile was sweet and shy.

Riley and Buffy stood in a corner, having an intense moment of their own. Their faces were separated by mere inches. Tara couldn't hear what they were saying, but the meaning was clear. Not only would they miss one antoher, but there was an undercurrent of something else going on that she could only guess at--but that, if forced to guess, she would say had something to do with Angel, Buffy's vampire ex-boyfriend who lived in the city Buffy was headed for.

Then Riley and Buffy stopped talking and brought their lips together in a passionate kiss. Tara looked away, giving them their privacy. She noticed that Salma was looking at her own shoes.

And Willow was looking right at her. Which meant no one else was looking at them.

She kissed Willow good-bye.

And this line, just a cute thought from Tara's POV:

quote:

Sunnydale. Come for the education, stay for the exciting, demon-packed summer.

Ah yes, and one more that's just WAY too cute.

quote:

Maybe I won't have kids after all, Buffy thought. She had a quick mental image of some little girl begging to spend the night at Aunt Willow and Aunt Tara's, to play with Miss Kitty Fantastico and do witchy things.

Oh yeah. Did I mention the story's good too?

I know I've posted this before, but all this talk about GWTW just reminds me how much I'd like to see a re-make with AH and AB (who, lest we forget, are real Southerners from Georgia and Alabama respectively )--

Scarlett (played by AH ): Whah fiddle-dee-dee Cap'n Butler! Must you really go off to faht in the wowah?

Me too. And if I can't find it there, Coles
and Smith Books as well. If all else fails there is always Bakka or The Worlds Biggest Bookstore (although going downtown is such a pain since my sister moved). I haven't even read this book yet, and already I love it.
