I know that some kitties get a little annoyed if you post a fic without it being beta read. I don't wanna rub anyone the wrong way so hopefully Amanda will send me the user friendly version soon.

just repeat the 'Spaceballs' mantra to yourself..."When will then be now?...Soon!" He He He. I love that movie.

Leave A Light On

Chapter 7

The room hadn't changed much. After six months everything seemed just like it was before. But the feeling was different. It didn't feel how it used to when she once lived here. It was almost like she was in a museum or something, like the room had been preserved, but had been without life for a long time. She knew the history of every object in the room, and if someone asked her to, she could attach a story to every inch of the room. The lamp that was bought at a flea market when she and the redhead were on a romantic getaway. It really was an ugly lamp, but they agreed that it had character. It was something they could place in their room and honestly say that no one else on the planet had such a lamp in their bedroom. It was theirs, uniquely theirs, and that made it beautiful.

But she didn't really have time to muddle over the little anxieties that this setting thrust upon her. She was in a chair, her head resting on the palm of her hand, watching over the depleted body of her former lover. Willow hadn't regained consciousness since they were in the alley. She hardly moved the whole time that Tara vigilantly watched over the girl. Tara sat there as if in meditation. She sat there with such focus, believing that if she wanted it bad enough she could make the girl open her eyes. But it had been a while now and her eyes were strained from focusing so hard on the silent occupant in the bed. The moonlight filtering into the room was the only source of light. The tick-tock of the grandfather clock which was usually viewed as a frustrating interruption was now a welcomed steady rhythmic sound that broke up the deafening silence of the dark room. Suddenly Tara was dragged out of her thoughts by the sound of light tapping on the bedroom door.

"Come in." Tara squinted as the light from the hallway hit her eyes. She looked up to see Buffy waiting by the door.

"Any change?" Buffy moved into the room to look over the sleeping body of her best friend.

"If you consider lack of movement or consciousness as change then, yes, plenty of change." Tara didn't mean her words to have such a acidic tone to them, but the events and revelations of the past day had left her without much courtesy. But she did regret taking her frustration out on Buffy. "I'm sorry, I just... it's all so much." Buffy kneeled down by the feet of the blonde huddled in the chair.

"You don't owe me any apologies. I know what you're going through... too well. I was thinking if you're up to it you could come downstairs. The gang is here... we're trying to figure out what happens next. Anya seems to know a lot about this stuff. It might..."

"I can't leave her Buffy."

"Tara, you're exhausted. You haven't eaten, you haven't slept. You won't be any good to Willow or any of us if you aren't strong for yourself first. We need your help on this... besides, I have a feeling that if anything changes with Willow you'll know it, you'll feel it." Buffy placed her right hand on Tara's left and squeezed it in encouragement. Tara returned the action and gave the girl a nod.

"Okay... there's s-something I need to tell you guys, too."

"Well, the scoobies are waiting with sugary provisions that would make dentists across the nation gasp in shock." They both got up and headed down the stairs into the living room. Tara saw Xander and Anya sitting down on the couch, and Spike lounging on the love seat. Xander and Anya got up when they saw Tara.

"Hey Tara, An and I brought some super caffienated coffees... thought you could use the artificial lift." Tara smiled in gratitude but was suddenly caught off guard as Anya rushed toward her and wrapped her in an embrace. Tara patted Anya's back to show her thanks.

"I find that physical displays of affection are very helpful in times of crisis. Strictly platonic though. ‘Cause, ya know, mine and Xander's are a bit more involved." Tara laughed on the inside. You could always count on Anya to lighten the mood.

"No worries blondie, we're gonna give this glamorized sage peddler a taste of what he's pushing." Spike really didn't like Rack. Even before he became a semi-member of the Scooby gang the guy got under his skin. He would take all the local drifters on the street and get them hooked. After meeting with him they were so strung out their blood wasn't even worth draining. He should've took him out when he had the chance. Tara nodded at Spike in appreciation. It had been a while since she was in a position like this, a situation where the gang rallied behind her.

"Thank you, guys. So did you figure out anything?" Tara took a seat on the chair and Buffy planted herself as well. Xander decided to answer the open-ended question.

"Well, Anya was just explaining to us this whole Warlock immortality deal. An…?" Anya had a confused look on her face until she realized that was her cue to fill Tara in on what they figured out.

"Oh right. Okay, so from what I remember, actual cases of warlocks or witches reaching immortality are pretty small in numbers. It's very hard. You have to get soooo many sources, and the process of gaining another witches source is very dangerous." Tara was very interested since this affected her personally on many levels.

"How so?" Tara questioned.

"Oh, well, the human body can only contain so much mystical energy before it goes all like, ka-blooey. It just burns up. Naturally it requires much discipline by the one stealing the source. They have to do it slowly over time, at least at first. Depending on how strong the witch or warlock is it can take a very long time, sometimes months. But there are so many qualifications to even begin the process, I mean it's almost as bad as applying for a small business loan. You know, one minor incident of arson and vandalism and suddenly it's like 'oh sorry your past history blah blah blah', I tell you, sometimes capitalism is a real bite in the..." Xander could tell his fiancé was about to go on a very long tangent.

"Anya, honey, time's of the essence here, let's try to stay focused, okay?"

"Right, sorry." Xander patted his girlfriends leg to show his support. Buffy was processing all the information Anya laid down before she got into the 'workers of the world unite' speech. Something puzzled her.

"Qualifications? And you keep talking about sources, I'm gonna need you to provide a little Webster's Magic Dictionary action on that term." Anya got back in Scooby mode and answered the slayer.

"As far as qualifications go it's not like any warlock or whatever can just go around stealing mystical sources. And by sources I mean how a witch channels their magic. Every witch, once they become good enough, can perform magic almost instinctually. They don't even need to use old language verses and such. Most spells are written in dead languages because they help the practitioner focus, it helps them disassociate from this plane so they can reach a higher one, or lower one if they are so inclined. But once you've channeled a source, nature's energy is constantly running through you, you can command it with a snap of your fingers." Buffy needed to make an analogy if she was gonna get this concept.

"So it's like Slayer strength kinda. Like how that one time that demony guy tried to steal it from me."

"Somewhat. In the sense that it's the center of your power then yes, it is very similar. It's where all their power is drawn from. Some are born with it, like natural wiccas, but others build one as they achieve higher levels of magic."

"So what qualifications are there to stealing a source then?"

"The victim witch has to be willing at first. They have to offer themselves to the other witch or warlock. Usually the victim gets involved because of the high they get off of the transference of power. When Rack first starts the process he has to transfer some of his power to the witch he's stealing from, that's where the high comes from. Suddenly these witches get a burst of power way above what they have on their own. By sharing essences they form a mystical bridge so to speak. That's how he can take what he wants. Once the victim gives in that first time they're connected, and he can come and take what he wants, when he wants. " After hearing this Tara gripped the arm rests of her chair. One part of this explanation bothered her.

"Can he steal a source without the victim allowing him at first?" Anya turned to address Tara's question.

"It can be done, but it would take such a long time. He would only be able to take snippets at a time, it could take more than a year, and the victim would eventually pick up on it. Once they realized they were being violated the process would end. If you don't get the victim to participate willingly at first then you run a very serious risk. Like I said, when the victim goes willingly at first a mystical bridge is created. That how all that energy passes between the two without a hole being ripped in this dimension. However, if you try to steal a source without that initial compliance, without the bridge being formed, then you could end up incinerating yourself in the process."

"So if a person didn't willingly engage with Rack at first he could still steal from her. And if she never... if she never protested then over time he could have taken it all from her?" Xander thought that Tara was trying to reason a situation in which Willow didn't willingly offer herself to Rack. But she had to know that Willow did agree to the process initially.

"Tara, I don't mean to squash your theory but... Rack didn't have to... Willow went to him of her own free will... I know she didn't mean for any of this to happen, but she did set the ball in motion, she went to Rack first." Tara got up from her seat and faced her body away from the group. Her arms cradled her chest and she looked to the floor. She took a breath and tried to keep her voice steady.

"I wasn't talking about Willow." Everyone started to stare at each other with confused eyes wondering if anyone knew where the blonde Wicca was going with this admission.

"Then who-" Xander started to question but he was cut off by Tara's quick reply.

"My mother. Rack drained my mother. I always t-thought it was cancer... but he told me. That's why she was sick for so long. The doctors said that her immune system had just broken down, but it wasn't that. Rack took every bit of energy and power she had inside..." Buffy was super confused. If Tara knew this why didn't she tell them before. Buffy walked up behind Tara.

"Why didn't you tell us before?"

"Because I only found out tonight, h-he told me."

"But Tara he was trying to mess with you... you don't know... he could have-"

"It's the truth, Buffy. He called me 'Blue Eyes'... he knew that s-she, that s-she..." Tara couldn't go on. It was too much. She could feel the emotions building up like a tidal wave inside her soul She needed to stay focused. She felt the sting of tears forming in her eyes. She turned to face Buffy, needing her to trust her without further explanation. If she went into this anymore she would lose it, and there was a woman upstairs that was counting on her to hold it together.

"Buffy, I-I can't... please." Buffy grabbed Tara and held her tight in an embrace. She understood what Tara was asking. She remembered a time when Tara opened up to her when she was dealing with the situation of her own mother's death. She wanted the girl to know that she wasn't going through this alone, she didn't have to bear this weight alone, they were all here for her. Even Spike was taking up her cross. Buffy always regretted that at the time she was too involved in her own problems to see the situation brewing between her best friend and Tara. She regretted that Tara had to take a stand alone. She had to leave the house, and Buffy never supported her actions or the reasoning behind them. Buffy knew all those months ago that Willow had a problem with magic. When Tara left she should have taken the time out to realize how serious the situation was to warrant her leaving. Maybe if all the gang stood behind Tara's actions then, Willow would have listened sooner. She had a chance to do right by them, to make up for her past indifference. She wasn't going to fail her friends this time around. She pulled back from the shaking girl, grabbed her by the shoulders and looked her straight in the eyes.

"Tara, we are gonna set things right. We will make it so that the closest this wanna-be wiccan bad ass comes to touching magic ever again is when he rearranges his spice rack." Tara shook her head in understanding. Buffy looked over at Anya and questioned the ex-demon.

"Okay, so if this guy took all this stuff from witches, then would I be right in assuming we could take it back? Would that work?"

"Yes. All his power is just a composite of other wiccan sources. Without them, he's as dangerous as a defanged vampire." Spike didn't appreciate that last comment.

"Watch it!"

"Spike, defend your honor some other time. Alright, so that's the plan. We jump into research mode to find out how to give Rack a dose of his own medicine. Tara, you really need rest. Whatever we find is gonna require us to do a spell... but your body is running on empty and that isn't the best condition for you to go into Magic Olympics with Mr. Crack Rack himself."

"Okay, I should be here for..."

"You be here for your girl... that's where you're most needed." Tara offered the slayer a half smile in thanks. Buffy was really trying to understand what Tara was going through and the effort wasn't lost on the blonde witch.

"Thank you." Buffy shook her head and replied,

"Don't thank me for doing what friends do." Then Xander added to this.

"For doing what families do... you're family Tara, you always were. I'm sorry if I didn't do what I should’ve before... families are supposed to stick together. We've known Willow longer than you, but when push came to shove, you're the one that did right by her. We owe you for that."

"Ditto." Buffy seconded that admission. Spike got up to move himself and spoke to move the mushy moment along.

"Alright, now that we've gotten through this lovely Hallmark moment, can we get moving on the part where we find out how we’re gonna get our sorry asses out of this situation. Although these are wonderful pleasantries something tells me Rack isn't going to be so understanding of our need to waste time with bloody sentimental declarations." Buffy answered

"Spike's got a point, a rude and harsh point, but a point all the same. The rest of us should head to the magic shop." Everyone gathered their belongings and started to head out the door. Buffy stopped by the stairs where Tara was now standing before she exited the house.

"If anything happens, just call and we'll be here in a jiffy."

"I will." They all left the house and Tara was left in silence. She decided to check on Dawn who was sleeping. A peak in the teenager’s room let her know that the girl was resting soundly. Now it was time to get back to Willow.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back at the magic shop, the gang was working on a solution to their current dilemma. They were seated at the round table with books piled high. Presently, they were trying to fill in the holes in the explanation Anya had given them at the house.
"Hold up, Tara told me something about Rack being able to control demons. Now was that just mass hysteria or is our situation that much worse?" Anya was beginning to feel like this was a game of twenty questions.
"Yes and no. If the bad warlock does eventually reach immortality they have the ability to control demons, actually they can control most living things. But that type of power doesn't last very long. It takes a lot out of them. Tara must have assumed that Rack had reached it already. But you wouldn't have been able to knock him out if he was, that much I can tell you for sure." Xander understood why Rack wanted to achieve this whole immortality thing. The lack of death or dismemberment was motivation enough. But what he didn't understand was why he was so focused on using Willow.
"But why is he busting his hump trying to drain Willow? Wouldn't it just be easier to go all suckey-source on someone else, someone that isn't best friends with the slayer for example?"
"You make a valid point honey, but it's not that easy. If Rack is close to becoming immortal then he's gonna need a really powerful witch for his final transference, to set the transformation in motion. It has to be someone close or equal to his strength in magic. When Willow brought you back, Buffy, she entered the gold star room for wiccans. There aren't a lot like her around. And if there are more like her in Sunnydale they most likely are trying not to broadcast it. It makes them a target for all kinds of unpleasant species." Spike grinned.
"So what monkey-boy here really wants to know is if there's a chance Mr. Hocus Pocus himself is just going to walk away from this should it become too complicated." Xander didn't appreciate the monkey-boy comment.
"Big words coming from a neutered vamp." Spike didn't want to initiate a useless argument, so he settled the brewing confrontation by flipping his two-fingered salute with his right hand.. Anya stepped in at this point to answer the hanging question.
"Sorry to burst your bubble but there isn't much chance of Rack going anywhere. Especially now that he knows there are two of them..." With that last comment they dove back into the pile of books covering the table. As they researched, the same thought passed through each of their heads... the hole they were in just got deeper.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tara entered the dark room slowly. She went to the table on the far right of the bed to light a candle. They were surrounded by enough darkness... they didn't need to add to it by sitting in a black room. After she lit the candle she headed back to her chair to once again watch over her fallen soulmate. It was kind of strange. It had only been a week since Willow's birthday, since she the redhead came back into her life. Seven days. Her world was turned upside down in seven days. But it was kind of appropriate if you thought about it. The minute she saw Willow for the first time in the Wicca group her whole world was turned upside down. It was full circle almost.

Yet here she sat, for a second time, watching her love suffer because of magic. It was different this time though, Willow hadn't invited it in this time. That's what made it so heart breaking. They had come so far in a short time. Well, actually the six months before their reunion was anything but short. But since Willow's birthday so much had happened. Tara had begun to believe again. The heart inside her chest that had laid dormant for so long was beginning to stir, beginning to breathe again. She found herself sitting in her apartment, staring into space, smiling for no apparent reason. She felt good inside. She started to let herself believe that she and Willow had a chance, that they could find each other and end up where they belonged... in each others arms.

But at this moment she was staring at the woman lying in the bed just praying for some physical movement. A sign that she got to Willow in time... that Rack didn't take enough to... The truth was, and she knew it, that there was a possibility Willow may never wake up. If Rack had had enough time to drain her to the brink of death then what was left of her energy was just enough to keep her breathing, but that's all. But she wouldn't think about that. Right now she was going to believe. Believe that Willow was just really tired and any second she would wake up mumbling about scary dreams with frogs and reach out to Tara to hold and protect her. And Tara would. She would hold onto Willow like it was the first time and the last time all at once. She would onto her as if it was the beginning of forever.

She knew that she had hoped to keep their foray back into a relationship on a slow and steady pace, but Willow needed her now, and she needed Willow. When their world returned to normal, they would work out the dynamics and logistics of their reunion in greater detail. But it was already known that they had found their way back to each other. They were just taking their time, letting it settle in. But what it came down to was that Tara loved Willow, in sickness, and in health, for better or worse, until death... well, they didn't need to think about that last part. She knew, but more importantly, she felt that Willow loved her just the same. So she would wait. She would wait forever if that's what it took until her love opened those beautiful green eyes and came back to her.

Rack. He wasn't going to win. Not this time. He stole the only love she knew from her earliest years in this world, and he threatened to take the greatest love she would ever know. Her poor mother... to think of the pain... why didn't she tell her? She was too good, her mother, she tried to carry this burden alone and it ended up taking all that she was. Tara was trying to hold it together. But she couldn't help but think about the nights when she stood watch over her mother's bed, just like she was now. She would sit on a footstool by the bed, place her arms over her mothers heart, and rested her head sideways on the edge of the bed. Her long white nightgown that was too big for her small stature covered and bunched at the bottom of her feet. She looked like a child guardian angel when the moonlight that streamed through the window shone on her body. She would watch the rising and falling of her mother's chest, the slow and deep breathing that became the final lullaby her mother could give her. Sometimes her mother would wake and call to her 'Blue Eyes'. Tara would hop onto the bed and rest her head on her mother's stomach. Her mother would play with the tendrils of her hair, and if she was lucky the soothing effect would draw her into sleep. Tara shook her head, trying to fight back the tears that were threatening to fall.

It was a useless fight. And Tara gave up, letting the gravity of the entire situation take over her. The dire state of her lover, the revelation about her mother, the uncertainty of the future that lay ahead. It all hit her like a Mack truck. Her upper body tumbled over onto to the edge of the bed where Willow slept. She buried her face in the sheets of the bed to muffle the cries that were pouring from her chest. Her hands rested on the side of Willow's body, providing the contact that Tara very much needed. She cried until her voice became hoarse, and her vision became blurry. She cried, hoping that somehow, she would come to understand how life could be so cruel, to reveal to her one hidden tragedy of her past on the coat tails of another about to take place. She didn't understand, and she had a feeling she never would. But she was pulled out of her morose thoughts by a stirring of the bed caused by actions other than her own. Then she felt it. The soft, unmistakable fingertips of Willow grazing over the skin of her right hand. Willow was moving... Willow was awake. The silence was broken by the raspy voices of her love.

"Bet I can turn that frown upside down for you, love." Willow was looking down at the blonde head that was laid out on the bed, blonde hair pillowed out, shining in the moonlight like strands of gold, making her wonder for a second if had died and an angel was watching over her. But it was better than an angel, it was Tara. Upon hearing Willow's voice Tara's head immediately popped up and looked at the redhead with the goofy grin.

"Oh God, Willow!" She rushed to the reclined witch and smothered her with affection. Willow returned the strong embrace. Then Tara pulled back and cupped Willow's gentle face with her hands. She placed a loving, soft kiss on the girl’s forehead.

"I was so scared Willow... I saw you up off the ground... there were all these bolts of energy around you. I thought I was too late. He almost stole you from me, too." She gave the girl some space but kept the physical connection by covering the weakened girl’s hands with her own.

"Never Tara, no matter what happens he will never take me from you. You said 'too'. Oh God, is Dawnie hurt, did he-? Oh no, please..."

"It's okay Will, Dawn's asleep in her bed. He didn't touch her."

"Then who..."

"I found out that… t-that Rack... h-he... look, Willow maybe we should talk about this after all this is over."

"No deal, Tara, if something is hurting you this much then I need to know about it. Please." She squeezed Tara's hands to show her support. Tara took a deep breath and avoided eye contact with Willow

"He killed my mom Willow. The doctors thought it was some breakdown of her immune system, but it was him all along. What he did to you tonight, how he sucked the life out of you, your source... that's what he did to her. He did it slowly over time. She wouldn't use dark magic to protect herself so she just wasted away. She was protecting me... and she died for it. It's so hard to believe... I almost lost you both." Willow pulled her hands out from Tara grasp. Tara looked at her in confusion.

"Willow?" Willow looked down in shame.

"You must hate me."

"What? Willow why-"

"For bringing him into your life... the guy that killed... I deserve what I get from him. I asked for it. But your Mom... she did nothing in this world but love and protect you... I'm so sorry Tara... God, I must disgust you." Tara stood up, she had enough.

"No!" Willow was nervous, she never saw Tara look or sound so defiant.

"He doesn't win Willow. I'm not going to let you lay down and make it easy for him. This is not your fault. It stopped being your fault when you left dark magic behind. You are not that girl anymore. He got my mother because she didn't have anyone to turn to. No one could help her. But right now there are four friends at the Magic shop trying to find a way to get rid of Rack. He doesn't win, Willow, not this time. You fight for this, you fight for us. He wants you to feel disgusted, he wants you to feel guilty, because then he has you. But that stops right now. Okay? I need you Willow. Don't give up, not when you've come so far, when we've come so far." Willow was crying, she used whatever strength she had to move over to Tara. She reached out for Tara and Tara met her embrace. Willow spoke softly into the blonde’s ear while holding her close.

"I'll fight with everything I have in me Tara. I promise." They held onto each other for a while, both needed the close comfort more than they knew. Then Willow pulled back to address Tara face to face.

"I'll fight Tara, but I won't use magic... I can't go back to that. I can't explain it but I have to beat him some other way... it's the only way I can win. It's the only way that's right." Tara smiled at Willow. Willow really had come full circle. Except this time she would have the knowledge gained from past mistakes. And if it was possible she had a feeling that their love this time around would be even greater.

"I understand. I'll support whatever you decide. But you have to let me help. I won't let you sacrifice yourself because you won't do magic anymore. The fact that you stood your ground, that even in the face of death you stuck to your promise, means so much to me, Willow. But I don't want the price of your actions to leave me with just a tombstone and memories of the woman I love." Willow nodded her head.

"I've finally found my way back to you, I'm not going to give that up, not after being so lost." Tara cupped Willow's cheek and responded.

"If you get lost, all you have to do is follow the light home. I left a light on for you. I'll always leave a light on for you, Willow." Willow placed her hand over the hand Tara had on her cheek.

"I know. But I'm home now... and I'm never leaving again. All roads lead to you... to home." They smiled at each other. Willow suddenly noticed how tired Tara looked.

"Tara you look exhausted. Have you eaten... slept?"

"I was a bit pre-occupied. Things were kinda noisy up here, and here." Tara pointed to her head first, then her heart.

"Maybe I could help quiet things down a bit... we used to be really good at that together." Tara knew that sleep was very much needed, and the bed looked really inviting. Willow saw the trepidation in Tara's eyes and spoke to calm the girl.

"Tara, you just spent hours by this bed watching over me like an angel. Let me do the same for you. Please." In response, Tara got up from her chair and walked over to the right side of the bed, the side she always stayed in before. Willow lifted the covers and Tara slid in. It felt wonderful, it felt like heaven, it felt like home. Willow smiled at the girl to her right and then motioned her head in her direction, knowing that the blonde was aching as much as she was to complete the familiar setting. Tara moved without protest. Her head found it's resting spot on Willow's shoulder almost instinctually. Her arm crossed over Willow's torso like second nature, and Willow covered the appendage with her own. Willow's head leaned into Tara's.

They were safe now. Nothing could touch them, nothing could harm them. They were together, and that was all that mattered.

Whew! That was a long one folks. I think you got two for the price of one. Consider it a gift on the New Year. It was also the first time I've written Spike and Anya. I'm not that good at it, but with practice I'll hopefully improve. Lot's of emotion here, I feel pretty drained myself. Have a Happy New Year Everyone! I hope this gave you some good mushy feelings to start the new year with!

Fic: Leave A Light On...

Postby MisterD » Sun Dec 30, 2001 6:29 pm

Is this bridge Rack set up Tow-Way?
If so can't Willow take back her magic?

Sick idea:
If all rack needs for imortality is Willow's magic. Does that mean all Willow needs for imortality is Rack's magic?

Looking forward to next part.

"We've known Willow longer than you, but when push came to shove, you're the one that did right by her. We owe you for that."

I really like that quote. Great installment and terrific idea about tying Rack to Tara's mother. I've always hoped they would flesh out the backstory concerning her mother's power. Terrific!

glad you guys are enjoying it.

Mister D. Welcome to the board. I didn't mean to make you guys think that Rack took all of Willow's power. The scoobies going after Rack isn't really about getting Willow's magic back because in my fic world she still has it, but she has learned her lesson and doesn't want to use it anymore. It's more about getting that royal wiccan pain in the ass Rack out of Sunnydale for good.

Orion don't worry I won't make you wait any longer than usual for the next part.

Scout I'm happy you like how I tied in Tara's mother to the story line. It was a stretch but so far everyone seems to be buying it.

Charlie Thanks for the well wishes, but yeah I'm done with those torturous acts known as finals. I say amen to your call to Partying!

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.
Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

Nice work, this is becoming more textured as you progress. Tying Rack into Tara's mother was a great touch. I think you've got a great handle on the emotions. I'm really enjoying it.

I have really enjoyed this story -- and the stuff with Tara's mom is interesting. I also liked all the stuff that Buffy acknowledged about Willow's problem and not supporting Tara. Really great -- can hardly wait for more!!!

Yay Tempest! Like I said before, this is great. Willow and Tara... so sweet together.

And by the way, yes, patience is a virtue, but I have little of it. So I'm hoping for lots of Tara-Willow smoochies, soon.

Keep it coming!

Fic: Leave A Light On...

Buffy shook her head and replied,

"Don't thank me for doing what friends do." Then Xander added to this.

"For doing what families do... you're family Tara, you always were. I'm sorry if I didn't do what I should’ve before... families are supposed to stick together. We've known Willow longer than you, but when push came to shove, you're the one that did right by her. We owe you for that."

--- I love it! I was in my room waiting for the New Year's ball to drop and came across this story. Once I started, I couldn't stop. I was laughing and crying. It's incredible! Then, my friends came in so we cld do the countdown and I wanted to kick them out! Ha ha! I didn't want to stop reading! Anyway, love your story! It seems so real! I mean, like an actual episode. The concept of the bridge to access power, and the explanation of Tara's mom....very insightful. Oh, and the Willow apology, and later the way Tara felt guilty for being the reason for Willow's turn to dark magic....amazing! But, my fav is the quote above. Can't wait to read more!
