12 step support for the spoiler-free

Postby drlloyd11 » Tue Sep 25, 2001 7:19 am

Yes fellow Kitties, its that time.
When the few of us try to keep ourselves pure till the big night, so it will be "special".
This thread is for mindless speculation and idle episode gossip untul the airing of the episode. I'm thinking the only allowed spoilers are from TV Guide and the "next week on Buffy".
Let me get this started,
I am both intrigued and terrified by the Willow is evil rumours, I have a gut feeling they will happen. No spoiler, just foreshadowing..
any thoughts?

well, I just rewatched the S5 episode last night where Dawnie tries to resurrect Joyce and they went on and on and on so much about how bad it would be to do such a spell and the repercussions it would have, so evil will definitely be afoot. Spoilers and all that aside, it's also obvious that Willow had grown incredibly strong towards the end of the last series and wasn't adverse to using blackest magic to get back at Glory for what she did to Tara.
I don't think she'll go bad as in "oh, bad is fun, Go Evil Willow!", I think it'll be the sacrifice she has to make to get Buffy back. It would be way too out of character for her to go off on a power trip. Sort of unbelievabel. Plus, Tara would so kick her ass if she did that.

i dunno about the evil willow thing... i think i'd *like* to see her a little evil... not totally evil... just a little evil...

i definitely think she'll be more powerful... don't you? i mean... she got so powerful during season 5... she can hardly go back to be little ol' willow-lack-of-power...

besides... might be interesting...

this thread is a great idea - i've been having to pull myself away from the spoiler threads... i've never been spoiler free before so it's super hard...

you think they do a patch for this???

Oh dear god, I hope so!
can't see myself getting through without some sort of chemical support!

So, if Willow isn't going evil, where do you think this season will go with the characters?
Will Tara be stronger and more of a forceful character in the show after the whole brain steal thing?
Are they really going to have a baby?

I'm actually going to try going spoiler-lite at least.

That is to say, limiting myself to official articles and interviews (which never reveal all that much) and the TVGuide-based "mini-spoilers," without going to the hard spoiler-stuff like rumors and wild feeds. Is that possible? We'll find out.

As for Willow going evil, I still say it looks like a Jossian feint - something that looks like it's going to happen but doesn't in the end. Kind of like Tara not being a demon last year.

i'm not even reading the mini-spoilers... it's really hard...

i hate it!

you know... maybe i was happy being a spoiler ho! maybe it's better that way!

oh dear gods... i'm going through the 7 stages of withdrawal... starting with denial...

there's nothing great about being spoilerfree! it's all one big lie!

aargh! *hurry up with that patch!* lol.

Well, I was going to try and go spoiler free or spoiler-lite, but that lasted about 5 minutes when I saw the complete spoilers for episode 1 thread. *sigh*

I am sooo weak! Good luck to the rest of you kitties on being spoiler free! I will root for you.... as for me... well... my new theme song will have to be:

I'm just a spoiler ho (sung to I'm just a gigalo)

Have a great day!

sigh i've been a spoiler virgin - free and clean, but now... sniff sniff... i live with a spoiler HO who wants desparately to deflower me!

heehee!

But i'm holding firm in my convictions. If she loves me, she'll wait til the big night.

Meanwhile - I think Tara's going evil. Or at least less of miss susie sunshine since she has had a brain suck/replant from glory. I mean look at those promo pix!

well... i was doing *so* well...

ok... i was suffering a little... but i was still spoiler free!

until a certain kitten (you know who you are!! *cought*PUFF*cough*) corrupted me and convinced me to read the spoilers for the season opener...

so... i'm reverting to spoiler ho status... probably never to return... i mean, i knew it was too much to ask for me to be able to stay spoiler free for longer than 5 minutes!

I am trying--TRYING--to remain from being completely spoiled this season. Iused to be completely addicted to the wildfeed, but my gf confinced me to give it up last year.

This year I am having a whole new problem. I'm in St. Louis, so I don't get to see them until the Saturday after they air. grrrrr

Four days of avoiding spoilers.

Anytime I start feeling sorry for myself (like now) I just make myself think of all the people who aren't in the US or Canada and have to wait a lot longer.

I'm going to stay strong. . .even though it may kill me.

As a determined Spolier free flower...for now at least... I read the "Jossian Feint" comment above with interest. Given how we know how unreliable the cast promo pics in terms of the actual season do you think that the "new style" Tara is another feint, perhaps a reply to the repeated Willow is Evil rumours? I don't mean to suggest that Tara or Willow goes bad or has major changes (though they surely will change in some way as everyone does) just that this is possibly an attempt to mess with our heads? (Who Joss??!!)

I am a terrible spoiler Ho, I was disgraceful last year, I couldn't take the pressure in the build up to Family and read everything about it before it was shown over here in the UK, I was really annoyed with myself when I actually saw it because it would have been cool to see it unspoiled. From then I read every single ep description and remained spoiled up to my ass until the end of the season.

I'm going to try really hard not to read the main plot points this year, I don't mind the W+T bits, by that I mean I'll quite happily look at pics of them hugging/kissing/ having sex (Okay that last one is my own twisted fantasy!) but I'm gonna try really hard not to know everything that happens, of course I'm sure I'll fail miserably, but only because I can't take the pressure.

I can see Tara being more confident this year, I mean she survived Glory and Willow totally proved her commitment to her, so I'm sure she will grow and grow this year!

As for Willow I honestly don't think she'll turn evil, I think there will be repurcussions of her dark magic, but I'm sure when push comes to shove she won't go bad, she may flirt with it a little, but it would be totally out of character for her to be evil, I'm sure Tara will be very important in keeping her on the straight path, we've seen how strong she is and I'm sure when it comes to Willow she will do anything to keep her safe!

Edited because I'm illiterate!

I think it's time for me to break out my Spoiler Free AIM Buddy Icon again! Yay! It kind of missed being used. It also is a gentle and friendly reminder for people not to spoil me, namely my sister. *laughs* Be strong, Bob, you can do it!

The reason I am spoiler-free is because I read all the spoilers for Triangle, and then when it aired I didn't have nearly as much fun as I normally do watching the ep. I like the surprises.

Anyone who wants to download my AIM Spoiler Free icon, I'm uploading a bunch of other AIM icons with it. I will post the address for it as soon as I get it done.

Edited to add the link. Has W/T and a few anime icons. I'm not nearly done, but I have to go to work so here's a few. http://www.geocities.com/twi_light64/AIMicons.html

Well I am mindless and love to speculate so dr. thanx for the thread.
It has been difficult staying spoiler free, I can avoid the threads labeled spoiler(s) but some thread names were spoilers themselves. I had to give up the location shoots because they were begining to contain spoilers.
Speculate? How will Giles leave the show, by moving or by death?

WOW! I hadn't really considered that. Just that Tara might be more powerful. Not that she would be affected all evilly. That would be an interesting Jossian pull-them-apart-so-they-can-make-up scenario. Have a Willow vs Tara magick showdown and then they make with the making up. Maybe they'll even show some of the making up, or a lot of the making up... Woo Hoo!

I hate spoilers, but I love speculation. Go figure.

Thanks drlloyd11, we definitely need a thread for the spoiler free.

I've found the longer you go spoiler free the easier it gets. However whenever I get tempted, and I do, I just think of the rush I get watching the twists and turns of the plot unfold before me while I sit there blissfully unaware of what's going to happen next.

Drat! Drat! Drat!

I went and looked at the Complete Spoiler thread for the season premiere.

One thing it taught me, though, is that I think too much spoilage could have a negative effect on my writing. Most spoilers - especially the bad-rumor kind - are written with bad story construction and structure, so I start to get all messed up about what's a good story and what's a bad story. Kind of, "That doesn't look right to me, but if they say that's what Joss is doing..." and off I go. I don't need that.

*sigh* I hope Rox is right and that it gets easier the longer you go without spoilage...

Postby BBOvenGuy » Wed Sep 26, 2001 9:29 am

Well, my problem is that I think in terms of story construction all the time, so whenever I see a spoiler-rumor I can't help thinking where that rumor is going to lead the story next.

For example, consider the purely hypothetical rumor of another Willow/Tara kiss. On the surface, you think "Woo-hoo!" but here I am combining that rumor with rumors of Willow going bad, Tara getting killed, etc., and I think "Hmmm, that kiss could be a happy resolution of a Willow-being-tempted-by-evil story line or it could be a painfully ironic moment where Tara happily thinks she has her Willow but we all know that Willow's really on the dark side." Either way would work. Either way would be a Joss thing to do. And we have no idea which way Joss will go, or even if this moment actually happens in the first place.

You see the difficulty?

Argh... I did this with Babylon 5 for five years. We had character-death-watches and spoiler synopses and the like with that show as well. You'd think someday I'd learn not to mess with all that any more.

i see your problem...

i often have the same one... kinda... when i have a deadline to meet, writing-wise, i often find myself thinking about things i shouldn't be.

guess it's different though, since i don't write full-time...

hope you find a solution that works for you!

Postby Princess Willow » Wed Sep 26, 2001 1:19 pm

I've decided to stay spoiler-free for the most part this season. Much to the chagrin of my fellow btvs addicts. I was such a spoiler ho last season that all my friends would call me on Mondays for massive spoilage. They didn't want to actually soil their hands by reading it themselves...they just wanted me to share it.

After being fully spoiled for most of last season I decided I wanted to go back to experiencing the surprise and turmoil of watching the ep without a clue.

So it's mini-spoilers for me this year. No AICN...no Wanda...no Wildfeed.

Well, until my head explodes from the effort of it all. Then I'm sure I'll join the masses and whore myself out for any minute tidbit of info that I can scrape up.

Best of luck to you all! Keep your fingers crossed for me.
