Hi again, :wave Still trying to get everything figured out.

Is there a way of getting my joined date back to my old one, which was in May of 2002?

Is there a problem with threads just disappearing? I was working in one in "you know where" :lol and it freaked out on me and I double posted. I deleted my second post, but then the whole thread just went MIA. I didn't start the thread, so I don't know how I could have deleted it. Help?

Heh, yes. It's some weird issue with time outs and the database. It doesn't really get deleted, it just stops showing up.

It should be back now.

The problem posting happens when the server load goes up. Server claims we're generating the load but I see no difference in the times this happens than the times when it's not happening. We're having conversation.

Font sizes should now be more manageable on IE. At least for thread titles and post text. Of course the better solution would be to get Firefox ;)

When the board seems slow. Submit your post and even if it times out. Likelyhood is the post went through. Clicking submit again will only make you double post. Copy your post and go back wait a minute and reload to see if your post went through.

Not sure where this question should be but.....

For some strange reason when I have my sig in "arial" font it won't show "bold" part....as soon as I'm using times new roman it's all good..... Can someone explain why? :confused

Thanks!

I think it is bold, just the font is so tiny you can't really see it. When I paste that on Word, I can def see it's bold.

judging from when the error occured I'd guess that someone is monitoring that thread and that when the board tried to send them an email saying it had been updated it fell over, causing the error to appear. Which means that error will only come up when updating that thread.

Looking at the actual error message & the source for phpBoard, there seems to be a few calls to the header function at the end of the page_header.php file. If there's anything which causes data to be sent to the browser before those function calls then they'll fail.

Or at least that's how it seems to me.

I distinctly remember using the "search" on this here website right after the move, but now I can't find it. Is it gone or am I just being really stupid?

Yeah, it's gone. We had to remove it because we were having some pretty serious problems. We will definitely try to have it back, if/when we can.

My count seems to be stuck on 312....love that number....I just notice it..actually last night I posted something and it said 314.....but now it's back to 312.....even in this thread if you go up...I posted twice...and both times it says 312.... :shock....help?....

Edited: Now it says 313 on all of them...but it will go back to 312.....

Edited again: oh...I think the count works differently here...not like on EZboard....because everyone seems to have same posts count in different posts...but I'm still stuck on 312....

No, it's definitely different than ezboard. Your post count changes on all your posts. If you double post or something and delete one, it doesn't realize you've double posted and since you delete one it subtracts it. I think.

You seem to be on 313 now.

In YMKA's case, I think I'm actually to blame for the post count issue.

YMKA, you posted in the You may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?" thread and your post went through three times. When I saw it, it was a little while later and you weren't around, so I just went ahead and deleted the last two.

But, yeah, I think any changes to post count are the result of some deleting of posts.

hm...I guess I'll keep an eye on it...because it seems to me that I've been for awhile with 312-314....and I think I posted more than 6 posts.....I started with 307 I believe.....Thanks!

So...

no matter how many times you post in the same thread, your count stays the same? cause YMKA has like 4 posts on here and all say 314 *giggles*

As bytrsuite said, this not like ezboard, when your post count changes it changes on all your posts. So once you make 10 posts all your 10 posts will say 10. I don't know how else to explain that.

Hey -- I'm trying to edit a post in Inward Eye (my last update to Line in the Snow.) When I hit "submit" after making the changes, I get a "page cannot be displayed" screen. The Hitting the refresh button from the "page cannot be displayed" page takes me back to the board with a "No Post Mode Sepcified" message. back button takes me to the previous KB page(s), and I've no problem surfing the site (or the rest of the web, for that matter.) Any suggestions?

Muchly Thanks :)
Patches.

ETA -- messing about with this post to see if the same error appears.

ETA-2 -- It worked this last time. Interesting...if only I could get the post I made all the formatting and other changes to back --LOL.

Hey Xita,

The ETA that's appeared is actually the second attempt to edit. The first attempt (where I'd edited the story and changed the formatting, which I did on screen and not on paper--silly me) didn't. The "page cannot be displayed" screen only comes up when I've tried to edit.

Hey Xita,

I managed to get the edit to post. I still got "page cannot be displayed" but this time I hit the back button and then "Submit" a second time, and that seemed to work. It might have been my browser (IE, of course :rolleyes), but the oddity is the "page cannot be displayed" only came up on that particular post, nowhere else. I want to do a small edit of the very first post in that thread, if I encounter a problem I'll be back, otherwise, thanks.

And, btw, muchly thanks on this new board to you and the other mods who made it all happen :)

Cheers!!

I've accidentally deleted my story The Race for Alpha Centauri from the Inward Eye

I was trying to post an update but when I clicked submit I got the time out error. I waited a few minutes but the post didn't appear so I tried posting it again, and got another time out. Again even after waiting a few minutes and reloading the page a few times the post didn't show up.

This time I made a post just saying "test" this went through okay and all three posts appeared. I deleted the post saying test, which worked okay, but when I tried to delete the second update post it timed out after the "do you really want to delete this post" screen.

Then when I went back to the inward eye, the whole thread had vanished.

So can the thread be saved, or do I need to repost it?

I think I got it to show up again. That's the disappearing thread thing that's been mentioned somewhere before. Heh, I don't know where. I can't remember.

But, you should copy and keep a list of all your addys to threads or threads that are important to you. That way when the phpBB loses it's place in the database or whatever it's doing, you have it. The url should work and if you post in it, it should show back up.

If nothing else, remember the name of the thread. I think most threads show back up on their own. It's as if the server hasn't caught up with the database. However, I have yet to see it disappear from the database all together. It's all there and if I know the name I can find it.
