:shock OMG!

Willow has twin sisters. SO CUTE!

Now...I'm all excited to see what goes beyond this. Very interesting. I was never one to picture Willow with a sister, or siblings for that matter, though I did write a short story about her and Faith being sisters. *shrugs*

PART 14

Postby Shadow » Wed Jul 30, 2003 11:20 am

Thank you guys for reading and feedback! You are the best.

This part isn't very cheerfull and light. Some darkness looms over Evan and leaves Jessie heartbroken... but happy endings are Kitten must do.

PART 14

”This is life!”

Tara and Willow were jumping on the bed in Willow's room. They were breathing hard from all the jumping and laughing.

“Let me get this straight,” Tara giggled at the word, “we just spent half an hour convincing Evan that she shouldn't be jumping on the bed so that we could do it the moment she fell asleep?” She remembered the long talk they had had with the young girl. Evan reminded her of Faith, which could only mean trouble.

Willow threw herself on the bed. “She just gave me the idea.”

The blonde kept on jumping for a while, and Willow enjoyed the view, before Tara sat down next to Willow.

“You are such a troublemaker,” she whispered in the redhead's ear. Shifting into a more serious mood she took Willow's hand. “What are you going to do? About the kids?”

Pushing herself up, Willow cast a sad smile. “I'm gonna talk with my father. These kids need real parents, not an 18 year old sister.” She hugged Tara lightly. “I know you had to do this for your siblings, but I don't. I know they’ve lost their mother, but they still have their father and stepmother.”

Before Tara could reply to that, an urgent knocking on the door startled them.

“Willow!”

Willow had never been as fast in opening the door as she was now. In the doorway stood Jessie, with tears in her eyes.

“She left. Again! And she left me behind.” The little girl was choking on her words, angry at everyone. “She promised me that she would never leave me.”

Willow looked at Tara who was at her side in an instant. “Who left sweetie?”

The little girl threw herself in Tara's arms. “Evan. She's always running away.”

The redhead got, up leaving Tara to tend to Jessie, and went straight to Evan's room. The girl wasn't there, and Willow noticed that some of her stuff was missing as well. She grabbed her jacket and cell phone and ran outside. After walking around the block a couple of times she felt defeated. The little black-haired girl was nowhere to be found. Not knowing what to do, she called all of her friends and Mrs. Summers who were more than willing to help her. But still they couldn't find Evan. Finally they all found themselves at the Summers’ residence. Jessie was crying softly, safely in Tara's arms.

“I have to call my father,” Willow whispered to no one in particular. “I lost my sister,” she said disbelievingly.

Joyce pulled Willow in for a hug. “Honey, it's not your fault. Ok?” When the redhead finally nodded, she smiled. “You want me to call him for you?”

For a moment Willow considered this but then shook her head. She had to do this on her own.. Gathering all of her inner strength she picked up the phone and dialed his number, which she knew by heart.

“Father?” she said and then she lost it. She was sobbing into the phone uncontrollably. Somewhere from behind, Tara wrapped her hands around her and Joyce took the phone from her hands. Willow just couldn't take it anymore. The need to panic overwhelmed her. This little kid was somewhere out on the streets and who knew what could have happened to her by now.. But then she felt Tara tighten her grip on her and relaxed into the blonde's body. Was it really possible to feel this way, to feel this complete, even when she was falling apart?

“Baby, everything's going to be fine. We're going to find Evan, and we are so going to kick her ass.” Her words had a serene effect on Willow. Not caring about the people around them, Willow turned and kissed Tara. “I love you.”

“Bloody hell!”

Everyone turned to the source of the voice.

“Sorry, I was just surprised,” Giles looked at them sheepishly.

Tara blushed under the stare of the British guy she recognized as Giles, Buffy's stepfather. Buffy smacked his arm. “Come on Giles, it's like the 21st century.

He rubbed his arm, where Buffy had smacked him, before reaching for his glasses and cleaning them. “I am aware of it thank you.”

Realizing that everyone just saw them kiss, Willow searched with her eyes for Joyce among the small crowd. She saw her entering the kitchen and followed.

“I'm sorry,” she whispered.

Joyce turned around and smiled at her surrogate daughter. “What for, honey?”

“For not telling you I was gay. I wanted to but I was waiting till I had someone to introduce to you as my girlfriend.”

She was playing with her fingers, looking everywhere except at Joyce, scared of her reaction. Suddenly she felt a hand on her cheek and looked up to see Joyce’s smiling face.

“I knew, in a way, but I was waiting for you to tell me yourself.” Letting her hand drop to her side Joyce pulled popcorn out of the microwave. “But that was the wrong way to tell Rupert you were gay.”

Willow blushed, but then she felt a cold shiver run down her spine. At the same moment Tara ran into kitchen.

“We have to go, now!” She was practically screaming and Willow just nodded.

Joyce looked up confused, “go where?”

“The hospital, something’s happened to Evan.” Willow answered before Tara had a chance to, before running outside.

It took them all twenty minutes to get to the hospital, and neither of the girls said much during the drive. Once they got to the hospital they stormed in to the ER. Tara stopped the first doctor she saw, a young woman with a kind face. “Sorry, we’re looking for a six year old girl with black hair. Her name is Evan.”

The woman looked at them all suspiciously. “And what are you to this girl?”

“I'm her sister.” Willow stepped forward. The doctor just nodded and motioned for them to follow her.

“My name is Emily and I am a pediatrician. We have a girl fitting your description. Some girl brought her in and said she found her fighting this guy. She's beaten up pretty badly but she's going to be ok.”

She opened the door to the small room and they entered. Evan looked at them with fear evident in her eyes. Once she noticed that Willow was with them, her fear seemed to disappear, and she smiled at them. “Willow?”

The redhead could feel rage towards the guy that had done this to her little sister. She bit her lip, trying hard not to cry at the sight of her beaten up sister and sat down next to her on the bed.

“Hey Evan, how are you kid?”

Evan looked up at her, still smiling. “I'm ok. Is Jessie ok? She's probably mad at me. I promised her I would never run away again, but I had to, otherwise they would hurt her...”

Tara giggled, making Emily look at her strangely.

Tara noticed the doctor staring at her. “She babbles just like Willow,” she explained. “Evan's twin, Jessie, looks exactly like Willow. You look at them and you just know that they are sisters. With Evan, though...they look so different.” Grinning she continued, “but they babble the same way.

Emily smiled at her and they exited the room. “Where are their parents?”

“Their mother died a couple weeks ago, I'm not sure how. They just moved out here from New York today, to live with their father. I guess Mrs. Summers will call him, and let him know Evan is alright.” Tara followed the doctor to the coffee machine and gratefully accepted the coffee the doctor offered her. “Thank you.”

“Miss...?”

“Maclay, but call me Tara.”

Emily smiled, but grew serious again. “Tara, her injuries...if she really was fighting a man... she's a six year old girl.” Emily was looking at her, confused. “How can a six year old girl fight a grown man, and not sustain more injuries?”

Tara just looked at the doctor, sharing her confusion. What did happen to Evan, and why was she running away all the time?

                        *                        *                        *

Willow was playing with some black locks on the pillow, waiting for Evan to wake up. She wanted to know what had happened to her sister but knew that the girl needed to rest. What was going on? Before Evan fell asleep she couldn't stop babbling about how someone was trying to hurt her.

Then someone barged into the room, waking up Evan and startling Willow.

“Where is she?” Their father was looking around the room. Finally his eyes fell on the sisters. “There you are.”

He looked tired, Willow noticed, tired and scared. She wondered if he was scared for Evan.

“Hello father,” she addressed him. “When did you arrive?”

Mr. Rosenberg looked back and forth between both of his daughters, feeling uncomfortable. “Just now. Would you leave me with Evan for a second?”

Willow nodded and stood up. Evan reached for her but Willow just smiled reassuringly and left them alone.

As soon as she was out in the hallway, she felt Tara behind her and smiled. “Now who is creeping up on me?”

“Someone who loves you very much,” Tara replied.

“Hmm... is it Angelina Jolie?” Willow teased. “Or maybe Jessica Alba?”

Tara laughed when Willow turned, and then she kissed her. “I keep doing that! I can't even come near you without having this sudden urge to kiss you.”

Willow made an innocent face. “Who's complaining?”

Taking that as an invite Tara leaned closer, kissing her again. They were interrupted when someone cleared their throat. “I was wondering where the two of you were.”

Emily was standing next to them, grinning. “Sorry for interrupting but I just wanted to let you know that Evan's tests are fine, and you can take her home first thing tomorrow morning.”

Willow forgot her embarrassment for being caught during heavy kissing and looked gratefully at the doctor. “Really? That's great!”

“NO!!!!”

All three women turned and ran for Evan's room. Willow was the first to enter. Evan was standing in the middle of the room screaming at her father. “I WON’T GO! YOU CAN'T MAKE ME.”

“I CAN and I will make you go. You have been nothing but a trouble maker ever since your mother died. Boarding school is exactly what you need.” Mr. Rosenberg was standing next to her losing control over his cool façade, something Willow thought he never did.

As soon as she noticed Willow, she jumped into her arms burying her head in Willow's neck. “Willow, don’t let him take me away. I have to protect Jessie. They will find her and do something bad. Please help me.”

The redhead looked up and locked eyes with her father's. “We have to talk. Now.”

She handed Evan over to Tara and walked outside waiting for her father to join her. Once he was outside, she closed the door to the room, making sure Evan didn't hear any of this.

“Tell me one thing father. Are you sorry you weren't there for me in my childhood?”

He looked surprised at her question but she motioned for him to keep quiet. “Let me tell you something. If you want to have a different kind of relationship with Evan and Jessie, you will have to have a bit more patience than this. And no boarding school!”

She turned away from him and was about to go back into the room when she heard him speak.

“I am sorry Willow, for not being there for you. You were always my pride and joy. Especially now.” He smiled for the first time since he told her about the twins’ arrival. “And I will try to make it up to you, starting with Evan.”

She smiled. looking through the window, she saw Evan smiling with Tara and Emily < They're going to be family. I am going to have a family. How cool is that?>

Feedback

Postby Shadow » Sat Aug 02, 2003 11:52 am

Update will be soon I promise. But first feedback...

littlecrazy80 I aim to please.

Arwen276 I agree that Willow has a right to have normal life. They' re not her children and she is only 18 years old. I know that there are girls who have kids at that age but it' s their choice. Willow didn' t decide to have kids.

And Evan, well she has a mystery of her own.

Insanity Someone is definitely after the sisters but it doesn' t have to be Jessie. Evan' s just that type of person who thinks it' s her duty to protect her sister. I like how you all think Evan' s a Slayer. That never crossed my mind.

bluewillowwitch I' m glad you like it. And no, it wasn' t Faith but you' re gonna find out more about that in the next update. I think we should give Mr. Rosenberg a chance, maybe he' ll surprise us. Miracles happen.

Stroke of Luck Evan' s not really strong * sheepish grin* But that' s all I' m gonna say. I love big families so they're all going to become one big happy family.

singgirl I' ll try to write this as fast as possible.

Liv Berit!!!!! Oh I remember... frappuccino is just cold cappuccino, right? It does clear couple of things, but not all. I wrote 6 different ways things could happen and I liked this one the best. Don' t know why. Guess it' s cause I was reading Sabriel at that time.

So that's it and I'll be updating you as soon as possible once my Norwegian beta does her thing :heart

Here it goes... I know this part is kinda dark and not close to anything you've expected but everything will be very rainbowy for everyone, you'll see...

Thanks to Liv Berit for beta-ing.

PART 15

"I failed," was all that was running through her mind. As much as she tried, she couldn't push the images of the beaten up girl from her mind. "How come I always fail?"

She tugged on her sleeves and bit her bottom lip. Her shoulder length black hair was ruffled and her face was bloody. The grey shirt she was wearing had some blood stains on it and try as she might, the girl couldn't figure out if it was hers or Evan's. She was limping slightly and every time she stepped on her right leg she winced in pain. Wandering through the hospital she tried to avoid people. If someone saw her like this, they could get her in more trouble than she was in right now.. After bringing Evan to the hospital, she thought about heading somewhere safe, where she could shower and change clothes, but concern for the young girl didn't allow her go far away from the hospital. Waiting patiently for the hallway, in front of Evan's room, to clear, she got lost in her thoughts about the trouble Evan got into. Her mind was in turmoil. A part of her wanted to seek help, but another part remembered that her mission was to only protect Evan and to not put even more people in danger. Finally the hallway cleared and she cautiously tiptoed over to the door leading to Evan’s room. She opened it carefully and entered, heading straight for the girl in the bed. Her heart ached because the girl’s injuries could have been avoided, if only she’d paid more attention. Just as she was about to take Evan's hand, something hit her from behind and pushed her into the wall.

“I wouldn't touch her if I were you,” a cold voice whispered in her ear and the girl flinched, mentally kicking herself for being so stupid. She never thought about anyone being in the room already.

The door opened and a red-haired girl entered the room, followed by two blondes and guy with a teddy bear almost as big as Evan who was in his arms. The taller blonde approached the person who was pushing her to the wall and pulled her off.

“Faith?” Tara wondered about what was going on. “What are you doing?”

Faith eased off and moved over to stand between the intruder and Evan. “I found her snooping around. Figured you might want to talk to her.”

Faith and Astra had come to the hospital as soon as they heard Tara's message on the answering-machine. They spent the last couple of days in L.A., and they now felt guilty for not being in Sunnydale when this all happened; not being able to help. After everything that happened, Faith and Buffy agreed that someone should stay in Evan's room at all times. Both Willow and Tara had tried to convince them that that was a bit overboard. Now they were just happy that the slayers hadn’t listened to them.

Willow had just recently met Faith, when she and Astra had returned to Sunnydale from L.A. She was very much surprised that everyone else had already met her. Buffy had apparently spent some time with her when she was in L.A. and was glad to see the other slayer again. Xander didn't want to share where he knew Faith from, and Faith just blushed furiously when they asked her. Even Dawn and Giles knew Faith. Apparently both of them were huge fans of her band and met her after one gig.

But now Willow's thoughts were centered on the girl Faith was glaring menacingly at. Before they could all say anything, Tara stepped closer to the girl and gently lifted her head.

“Hey. Are you ok?” Her words were gentle and the fear, which was evident in the girl’s eyes, eased up a bit

.

“Lorie?” a small voice said from behind Faith, and the intruder winced.

Tara looked between Evan and the girl a couple of times, trying to figure out what was going on. She saw Willow move closer to the bed and pick Evan up in her arms. Turning her attention back to the girl, she asked, ”Your name is Lorie?”

Lorie still looked a little frightened and only when Evan nodded, she spoke up. “Yes. Well, it's my nickname.”

“Who are you?” Buffy asked, not being able to keep her voice friendly. “And what are you doing here?”

The black haired girl shifted uncomfortably. “I am sent to guard the necromancer and the guardian.”

The room fell silent all at once. Willow felt Evan shiver and hugged her closer.

“A necro-what?” Buffy asked from behind her and Willow gave her a look of pure disbelief. “What?”

“I'm with B here. What the hell is a necromancer and what does this guardian... well, guard?” Faith joined Buffy. For a moment no one answered but then Tara's soft voice cut the silence.

“A necromancer is someone with the power to raise the dead.”

“Fuck!” Faith cursed before remembering that a child was present, and silently apologized. “Sorry. So one of the twins can raise the dead?”

She was looking right at Lorie who looked very pale and close to fainting. Noticing this, Willow handed Evan over to Tara, and helped Lorie sit down on Evan's bed. Examining her bruised and bloodied face, Willow took her time partly to make sure Lorie wasn't seriously hurt and partly to process what she had just found out. Scanning her memory for all the information she had on necromancers she sighed, realizing for the first time in her life that she didn't have the answer to her problems right away.

“You are fine. Most of the wounds are only scratches of some sort. Does it hurt a lot? We can call Evan's doctor. She seems like a nice person and we could ask her to keep this quiet,” Willow suggested, happy to see a thankful expression on the girl's face.

“It's ok. Though I think I twisted my ankle so this doctor thing sounds good.” She paused for a moment, thinking about how much of her knowledge she should share with these people. “But before you call her, there's one thing you need to know. They will come for them. You have to protect both of them otherwise...”

But Willow didn't get to hear the rest because at that moment Emily came through the door, and when she noticed the girl sitting on the bed her eyes shot wide open, and for some reason Tara thought it wasn't because the strange girl was sitting there, but because she knew the girl.

“Lorie?” Emily said disbelievingly, “is that you?”

Lorie looked at her more carefully and burst into tears, startling everyone in the room. “Em?”

Emily was at Lorie's side in an instant, hugging her close, and kissing her hair and her bloody face, not caring for a moment that the girl was dirty and bloody. Tara turned her head away from the scene, feeling like she was witnessing something very private. In the past few weeks she had completely focused on Willow and their relationship so she had almost forgotten what drew her to Willow in the first place, their strong magical bond. Letting her senses wander she felt that whatever was the nature of the relationship, between these two women, it was forbidden. Forbidden by The Powers That Be.

She looked for Willow's eyes and found them in an instant. The redhead mouthed, "we have to talk." Tara nodded in agreement. Everyone's focus on the strange couple made them miss Willow and Tara's escape.

Once they were in the hallway Tara kissed the redhead gently. “Hey there!” she whispered, and Willow giggled.

“Tara... when I first told you I was a witch, and then all that stuff about Buffy being the Slayer, and you told me about every girl in your family being a witch...did you ever think it would become as complicated as it is now?” Willow looked confused, and Tara felt confused, like an unseen force pressed itself upon them.

The blonde licked her lips and managed a faint smile. “Look, we like to pretend that our lives are just like other people's lives, but they're not. And when I'm with you, I feel complete, just like that. I don't need magic, or anything, as long as I have you. In your arms I'm not scared of vampires, demons or even death. Feeling more power now, Tara smiled at her, her whole face lighting up the hallway by doing so.

“I see a ‘but’ coming.” Willow giggled again and Tara joined her.

“Well, if it's your butt, I'm not complaining.” She paused and calmed herself. “I just think we need to deal with things as they come. And believe it or not, being witches, having slayers as best friends, having sisters with all sorts of magical forces...it's all nothing compared to what life can throw your way.”

“Such an optimist,” Willow smiled and hugged Tara.

“I'm not kidding. I mean canceling Dark Angel....”

Realizing their bad mood had disappeared, both girls felt better, even though their problems had just begun. Having some time alone and all of their friends safe, they fell into a make-out session and stopped only when someone cleared their throat from behind them.

Emily was supporting Lorie who looked better for some “strange” reason. They exchanged looks and the doctor nodded to them, walking off. Willow thought, wondering why the black haired girl had stayed with them. Lorie cleared her throat again and smiled. It was a nice smile, as if her whole being smiled, not just her lips and her eyes.

“I'm sorry for all the trouble I’ve caused. We have so much to talk about, but this is not the time, nor the place.” She ran her fingers through her hair, wincing when they got stuck. “You must know something before we do anything else though. I am THE necromancer. And once upon a time Em was my guardian.”

Emily returned with a wheelchair and helped Lorie ease into it. She locked eyes with Tara. “Give me two hours to get her cleaned and her wounds tended to, and we'll be back to tell you the whole story. I promise.”

As they moved on down the hallway, Willow couldn't help but wonder what exactly had happened. And what was really a necromancer?

Hey,

Thought I'd do the coming-here-checking-what-happened-in-the-last-update thing, after you said (wrote, whatever) that Liv Berit had beta'd these parts for you (Thanks Liv, by the way, I was kinda ill, I'm sure you know how it is), and found, to absolutely no surprise, 2 amazing updates. I really love this story, and Willow having sisters is a stroke of genius! No idea worries for you. :-) Plus, Joyce's reaction to the kiss was cool.

Quote:
“Well, if it's your butt, I'm not complaining.”

That just made me crack up laughing. It's great. But, y'know who would complain, about either of their butts.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know I think this is great, and can't wait for the next update. (although with exam results about to arrive, I'm just about done with the waiting for anything. I want everything NOW! :p But with a fic as great as this, I can wait)

Hello Kittens!

I've been having some eye problems which kept me away from computers as much as possible. then my mum caught me reading 5 books in 5 days (gay books cause they give me a boost whenever I need on) and yelled something about me not being able to enjoy sunshine so I took my laptop, sat on the swing in the garden and wrote part 16.

As soon as Rachel beta-s this I'll post it.

Have fun!

Part 16

Postby Shadow » Sat Sep 06, 2003 9:28 am

Yes... it happened... Part 16 is here!

_______________________________

"Wake up." The voice reached her, but she just shook her head and snuggled closer to the warm body next to her.

"Willow wake up! We can't stay in bed forever," Tara giggled. " Emily and Lorie are coming over. Don't you wanna hear their story?"

Green eyes looked up at her; " No. I wanna stay in bed with you forever. " Her face took on a playful look "Got any problems with that?"

"GODDESS NO!" Tara screamed, not realizing that Willow was just teasing her. When she realized Willow was smiling, she blushed " Don't tease me like that!"

The redhead grinned and dived under the covers, making Tara gasp with surprise. "On second thought... feel free to tease!" she sighed.

* * *

"Are you two a couple?" Dawn directed her question at Emily and Lorie, who were sitting on a couch waiting for Willow and Tara to come upstairs. Dawn and Buffy were keeping them company while Faith and Astra stayed with Evan in hospital, just in case something happened.

At Dawn's question, the two women looked at each other, and Lorie quickly turned her head away from Emily.

"We were a couple. A long time ago." Emily answered quietly.

Now Buffy wanted to know more: "What happened?"

"What happened with what?" Willow questioned, entering the room with Tara following closely behind. " What did we miss?" she asked cheerfully.

The witches nestled at the other end of the couch.

"Emily and Lorie used to date!" Dawn blurted out proudly.

Both Willow and Tara looked at the women sitting at the other end of the couch. Lorie looked much better this morning, but she was now using crutches to help her walk. With coldness in her voice she answered.

" A long time ago when we were still in high school, and her name was Emma." Longing shone through in her voice, and Tara realized that their break up had been beyond their control. "Then high school ended. She changed her name and college. I had no idea where she'd gone."

Emily looked like she was about to cry. "I was in Houston. I searched for you. I figured you would stay in New York but..." she let her words hang in the air. "Where were you? I was so worried you would do something rash."

Lorie reached for the crutches and got up, feeling antsy. " I didn't do anything rash," she retorted.

Emily looked at her with knowing eyes and a soft smile on her lips, making Lorie smile in return. "OK! So maybe I did

do something rash! I went to Europe. Spent two years wandering around. Got my act together and spent the rest of the time at Harvard."

Suddenly everyone was quiet.

"You... Harvard?" Willow blurted out. She'd never imagined someone like Lorie going to Harvard. She looked more like someone who would join Faith's band! Then her nerd side emerged. " What's it like? I heard..."

But she never finished her question as Tara put her hand over Willow's mouth.

"Sweetie, I know you have thousands of questions about Harvard, but we have to know some other things first." Turning her head towards Lorie, and then Emily, she continued, " Firstly, I'd like to know why your relationship

is forbidden by The Powers That Be. That is the reason why you broke up, isn't it?"

She was expecting Emily to answer, as she seemed to be less angry and hurt than Lorie, or she at least hid it better. But it was Lorie who answered.

" A long time ago, when the Earth was filled with demons, shamans created the Slayer. But one of them had other ideas, and he created a creature with enormous power. It was called the necromancer. The necromancer had two children: a girl with white hair, and a boy with black hair.

Once they had grown up, they were called White and Black necromancers. Even though they were siblings, and had been raised with the same beliefs, they chose to take different paths in life. The White necromancer chose the destruction of

nature's flow, bringing back hideous creatures. The Black necromancer devoted his life to giving those creatures back to Death, where they belonged. People weren't as blind then as they are now, and they saw what necromancers could do. Their fear and confusion resulted in a spell going awry. The intent of the spell was to extinguish both the White and Black necromancers. By then the White necromancer had her children - 12 of them - creating her own army.

The spell didn't extinguish all of the necromancers. But from that time on, necromancers couldn't pass their powers onto their children as they used to. Now their power was passed onto the next generation once they died, making the number of active necromancers the same at any time. 14-13 White and 1 Black. White necromancers are still as bad as ever, and other than having strength in numbers; they also have the advantage of teaching new necromancers about their powers. The Black cannot do that, cause they have to die to find out who the next Black is going to be. So The Powers That Be gave them a Guardian. The Guardian has all the knowledge of the necromancer, but not the power. They're a lot like the Watchers."

She sighed, and sat on the chair that Tara placed behind her. Looking across to Emily, she nodded, and the doctor continued her story.

"Lorie and I were born on the same day, at the same time, which made me her guardian. Some time passed before we found out anything about necromancers and guardians, and we became friends first. Just when we started to fall in love, Mia, the last necromancer, died. We were thrown into this whirlpool of Death and Life when we were 13 years old. For a while it worked. The Powers guided us, using my hidden knowledge, but things turned bad around our 17th birthday. By that time, we were so in love that we couldn't look at each other without crying, cause we knew the necromancer and the guardian are not allowed to love each other. But we

still did. And it hurt, that love, but it was the only thing that kept us going. That year Revel, the incarnation of the White itself decided that we were spoiling his business so he paid us a visit... with the rest of the family. We almost died. Both of

us. Me because he threw a Death kiss at me, a spell that kills you under a minute. And Lorie because she dived into Death

after me, and pulled me back before I got through the First Gate in the Death."

Looking up, she shifted the ending of their story into Lorie's hands.

"We defeated most of them that night. And Revel ran far away from us. But, coming so close to loosing Emma... sorry, Emily, made me realize I love her more then I care about the rules. So we stopped holding back. We touched, we hugged,

we kissed, we made love... until the consequences hit us hard. The Powers cut us off. Without their warnings and guidance we were sitting ducks and that's when Em almost died for the second time. And this time I got to her when she was almost at the Second Gate. I could have probably pulled her back even if she was behind the Third Gate then, and now I could probably deal with the Sixth Gate, but that didn't matter. The person I loved more then anything died twice, because I couldn't protect her. So we went to see The Powers That Be and asked them to help us stay alive. They told us we only had to do one thing. Separate. Forever. So we did."

Everyone in the room could sense the bitterness in her voice, and the tumult of emotions that lay behind her words.

* * *

Tara hugged Willow as tightly as she could. The story they'd

heard this morning had made her feel very thankful to have Willow, her love, and her friendship. Once everyone had finished with their questions, Lorie and Emily had decided to go for a walk, and Willow and Tara wanted to go to the hospital and pick up Evan.

"Do you think they'll ever be together?" Tara asked quietly,

not wanting to break the peace that surrounded them.

"I have to believe they will. They love each other so much; you can feel it in the air around them. Like you can around us." Willow's voice was gentle and certain.

Tara giggled, and kissed Willow. "So... do you have some time before going to the hospital? I wanted to try out your bed again. Just to see if it's good as the water bed"

* * *

"Which one of us is going to say it?" Emily asked, half seriously, whilst walking slowly next to Lorie, who was fighting with the crutches. Once the question was in the air, she stopped and looked hard at Emily.

"This isn't going to work. We can't spend time together. What wehad... it wasn't some teenage crush, it was the real deal and that kind of stuff doesn't go away. No matter how hard we all try. They could pull us apart, do whatever they wanted to do, but they could never stop me from loving you. Even I couldn't do that." she was close to tears, but she pulled herself together and continued " And I do love you Emma. Or Emily or whatever you call yourself. Names don't matter; the only name I have for you is Love. No one can take that away from me."

The Doctor smiled, and then, closing her eyes and praying for a miracle leaned forward and kissed Lorie. Lorie submitted to the kiss sighing painfully, remembering all of the times that Emma's lips had tasted this good against her own. Loosing control over everything, the black haired girl wrapped her arms around Emma, letting the crutches fall to the ground. Once they pulled apart, Emma held Lorie close.

"We can deal. We're not just some lost kids anymore. Together we can find out how its possible that the Whites know whom the next Black is going to be, and what they're planning to do. Together, being the key word. I'm not giving up. Ever again."

Emma and Lorie's love story is so sad!

I'm glad that they decided to stay TOGETHER this time and face the hardships, instead of being apart.

Willow and Tara are learning from those doomed lover's , I loved how Tara hugged Willow to reassure her that they had each other!

Part 17

"Try again!"

"I can't!"

"Sure you can. Just move your fingers a bit faster."

"I'm trying!"

"Well, try flexing them more."

"Ah... you're right. It's better now."

"Of course it is. I'm pro when it comes to this."

"Oh no... I lost it. Now we have to start all over again!"

"Relax... you're too tense for this now. And don't forget to move your foot."

"Lorie, I'm not sure I can do this." The blonde girl looked up to the black haired girl, devastated. "I try and I try but I'm never gonna be good at it. And I wanna be good. For Willow."

Lorie smiled warmly at the younger girl "Tara, you so can do it. I've seen you doing it when you're not thinking so much about it. All you need is practice. I believe there is no thing in the world I can't do if I try hard enough and don't give up."

Tara relaxed a little and smiled " I see that. You're just like Faith. Always aiming high and getting up as soon as you fall. Something like that requires great strength and courage. I don't have that."

The black haired girl got up and looked out of the window. "It's just piano ara... one song. That just takes a bit of practice."

The blonde cast a sad look at the piano and sighed. Lorie was right, in the end, it was Tara that had asked Lorie to teach her to play I Would Do Anything For Love. She couldn't just give up. It was their six months anniversary, and she wanted

to do something special for Willow, but her fingers weren't cooperating. It was Emily who had suggested to her to nag Lorie into this. Apparently Lorie had played piano since she was a kid, and it turned out she was really good at it.

"So... I heard you write songs." she tried to change the subject.

Lorie nodded smiling "Yeah. Through all this shit that was happening to me over the years, I had to let it out somehow, and playing piano was perfect. Emma loved it. She would

sit and listen to me play for hours. That's how we kissed, you know. I was playing something and she sat next to me and played it with me and our hands touched, eyes met... and

we kissed. And it's how I got a scholarship to Harvard."

She looked sad, Tara thought, like she was remembering a time when she thought her future would be lighter. Truth be told, Tara liked Lorie very much. Under the tough act, there was a sweet and thoughtful girl who just wanted to be happy, something Tara could relate to.

"Come on Lorie- Let's give it one more shot."

* * *

"What are you doing?"

The redhead jumped up, a little frightened by the voice from the door.

"Emily! Goddess, you scared me." She eased up a little once she realized who was at the door. "I thought it was Tara"

The brunette entered the room, and looked at the mess Willow made on the bed.

"Yeah I figured I
quote d scared you, but what the hell are you doing?"

Willow looked at the papers on the bed and shrugged. "I was trying to come up with a perfect idea for our six months anniversary. But as you can see I have no idea what to do."

Emily smiled softly at the younger girl. Boy could she relate to that! Lorie was always very thoughtful and surprised her for every anniversary and birthday. Which only made things harder for Emily. It was difficult trying to top that, but then she realized it was even worse for Lorie, cause she felt

she needed to top last year's present.

"Hmm... what did you have in mind?" She decided since she'd already helped Tara, she could even the score by helping Willow too. "Presents, dinner...?"

Willow sat on the bed and looked at her, glad of some kind of help. " Well, I wanted to draw something... her mother. But I can't get a hold of her picture without Tara noticing. And even with a picture... well I can't quite catch the soul of the person just by looking at some picture."

"You can draw?" Emily asked, surprised. Then a thought formed in her head. "Do you need to look at something while you draw or is one good look enough?"

Thinking about it for a while, the redhead replied, "No I have to look at it."

"Are you fast?" Emily smiled. "How long would it take you to draw something like that?"

Looking confused, Willow replied "An hour for rough outlines. I could work on the details without looking at the picture later."

"Good. I can help you, but it will take some sucking up to Lorie."

* * *

Faith dusted the last vampire and high fived Buffy.

"We're done for tonight" the blonde slayer said, and smiled. Slaying was much more fun now Faith was around. "So, how are the twins? I haven't seen them in a while. Been busy with school and slaying."

Faith, the official bodyguard and babysitter grimaced " I'm not really good with kids so they're killing me"

Buffy laughed. They'd chosen Faith to baby-sit, cause she was the one with the most free time on her hands, and super strength.

"They can't be that bad. I know Evan's a bit spirited but Jessie is such a cutie."

Faith whined and threw her hands to the sky " Jessie is the problem. I can connect with Evan. I know what's she's up to before she does. But Jessie... I'm not good with stories and songs and all that crap."

"I think you're great with kids. One day you'll be a good mother." The blonde slayer started walking, leaving a stunned Faith behind.

The brunette opened her mouth, then closed it, and opened it again "Why would I wanna be a mother? That last vamp must have hit you on the head. We should probably go to the hospital and see what's wrong with it."

Buffy laughed, and half turned towards Faith, her smile so bright the whole graveyard could see it. "Oh come on Faithy... you know you wanna have babies. Lots and lots of babies!" She had to duck when a stake flew above her

head, but by now she was laughing so hard even Faith had to join in.

"Yeah right. Fuck, B, you really have some wild ideas in that pretty head." she whispered, catching her breath. She knew the other slayer could hear her, but she still cast a quick glance to be sure.

Buffy was fully turned round now "You think I'm pretty?"

Shrugging, Faith walked right past her. "I only said your head was pretty. The rest... well, you're too skinny."

"Am not!"

"Are too."

"Fine. You win." Buffy gave up, and jogged over to join Faith "You wanna go to the Bronze?"

For a moment, it looked like Faith was going to say no, but then she shrugged once again "Why not? I sure am hungry and horny and I could find something to eat at the Bronze."

"What about Astra? Don't you usually eat... er, her?" Buffy asked, horrified at thinking about Tara's little sister like that, but unable to stop the words escaping her mouth.

Looking annoyed, Faith smiled "Remind me again which slayer has a one track mind?"

Buffy smiled apologetically, and nearly missed the haunted expression on Faith's face. Nearly. "What's wrong?"

She could read dark slayer pretty well by now. If Faith looked like nothing was bothering her and made sex references just twice in an hour something was up. Faith gave her best "I'm not gonna tell you" face, but something told Buffy she would actually tell her what's wrong if she only pushed a bit.

"Come on. Everyone needs a friend they could talk to. I know you have this big bad attitude around everyone, but if you actually admit to me that something's bothering you I'm not gonna tell anybody."

"I really don't want to talk about it," was all she got before Faith stormed off.

"Great Buffy" she mumbled to herself "Just great."

* * *

"Emma... you must have lost all of your marbles while I was away! How did you get that kind of idea? You know I don't use my power for something like that! I mean teaching Tara to play piano is one thing but this... this is abuse of my power!"

Lorie was storming through the house, waving her hands and shouting, while Emily followed her around, trying to get Lorie to listen to her.

"Now listen to me Lorelai Karlstein! Using your power to make someone happy is always a good use of your power." she shouted, making sure Lorie wouldn't interrupt her. "And this is an image calling. It's something Evan could do and just about as dangerous as Jessie is."

The black haired girl shook her head "You make it all sound soooo simple. Well life ain't simple! It's hard and complicated, and sometimes there are things you have to do, even if you don't want to do them. And I can't do this."

She started to walk past Emily, but the brunette grabbed her hand, and pulled her closer, making eye contact. After gazing into her eyes for a moment, Emily pulled away.

"I should have known. How long's it been? Six months? A year? Why?"

Lorie pulled away and sat on the stairs, pulling her fingers through black tresses "A bit over 5 months. I'm sorry, I should have told you."

Fighting between being mad and being curious, Emily sat next to her girlfriend "Why?" her curiosity got better of her "Why would you do something like that? After all that was sacrificed why would you stop using your powers 5 months ago?"

"I met this girl, Em she was only 5 years old, just a child. Her name was Ella. She lost her parents when she was only 3 and lived in different foster care over the next two years. I met her when she moved in to my building after she finally got

a family. Ella reminded me of you. She had the same carefree spirit you did when you were 5. And she was such a lovely kid." Lorie was crying by now, and Emily gently hugged her, sensing that the ending of this story wasn't nice.

"What happened?" she asked carefully.

The black haired girl looked at her with teary eyes "Life happened. She had this accident, she was playing with other kids in the park and fell over something, right onto this pointy fence. They got her to hospital and into the surgery and everything seemed to be ok, but then... she lost a lot of blood so they gave her a transfusion. The blood she got... the blood was infected, with HIV. She died 2 years later. I tried... I really tried to get her back but... I couldn't. My power wasn't good enough to make her solid and healthy. All I could do was pull her shade out, make her a soulless being. And I didn't want to do that."

Emily kissed her best friend, and hugged her as hard as she could "My sweet Lorelai, life is just that. It takes things away from you so you can appreciate the things you still have."

Lorie looked hard at Emily "It tried to take you away from me. Twice by death, and once by circumstances. But you still found me. And I still found you."

Smiling softly, Emily stood up and pulled Lorie into her arms. "Come on girl. Lets go to bed. And tomorrow... tomorrow the world will change."

* * *

A soft knock brought her out of her daydreaming. "Come in Tara." she responded lightly, and watched as the door opened and the blonde girl walked in, confused.

"How did you know it was me?" Tara wondered, amused.

Shrugging, Willow got off her bed, and pulled Tara into an embrace "I just knew."

Wrapping her arms tighter around the smaller girl Tara sighed. It felt so nice just being with Willow, hugging her, kissing her. "I went to bed and missed you so much I couldn't sleep."

Burying her face into blonde tresses, Willow inhaled the scent she'd come to know as Tara's, and a new emotion flooded over

her. Most of the time Willow adored Tara, she always loved her and sometimes she just got this sudden urge to ravish her, but tonight, for the first time, she felt endeared. Everything about Tara made her smile.

"When were you planning on telling me about this?" The redhead reached behind Tara, and took a letter off her desk. "I found it in your room and just couldn't leave it there."

Pulling slightly out of the embrace to see what Willow was showing her, Tara grinned "Miss detective now?"

"Well, with my special skill of reading I found out that someone applied to art program in Europe. Wanna explain?" Even though redhead knew Tara not confiding in her should hurt, she also knew that this was something Tara had had to do alone. "I mean, this is a great opportunity."

But Tara just pulled the letter out of her hand, and threw it behind them "Talk later. Have sex now."

"You spend way too much time with Anya! And don't think you're getting out of this missy." Willow put on her best serious look, and Tara chuckled.

"Don't you understand Willow? Everything I do... I do it for you. Anything that might be special in me... is you." Tara grinned, and Willow smacked her playfully on the arm.

"Great Expectations. I see you've done some reading miss Maclay. Was that before of after you spent some time with Anya?"

"Before I applied BOTH of us for the Europe Art and Literature program."

For a moment, Willow just stood there, and then she collapsed right into Tara's arms. The blonde witch chuckled softly at Willow's reaction, and pulled her to the bed. Leaving soft kisses all over the redhead's face while she was

waking up, Tara's smile never left her face "We're going to Europe sweetie."
