Chapter 11
Remember to Breathe
Willow and Tara’s night at Buffy’s went by well. With much baby videos and kisses. The only bad part was when the girls thought they had exhausted the best part of the night and went downstairs. They were on their way downstairs and Willow and Tara could hear the TV in the living room.
They stepped onto the main floor. As soon as they entered the room, Buffy had asked them, “Which was your favorite video?” The girls stared at her blankly.
Making various sounds of hesitation and their feet shifty, as though uneasy. Xander started to laugh, “How about the sixth birthday one, with the Dalmatian cake?”
“Yep! That one!” Tara said, pointing at Buffy as if to say, ‘I’m-not-as-dumb-as-I-feel-right-now.’
“No!” Willow said in defeat, smacking her head against her forehead. “There was no sixth birthday one!” She heavily whispered to Tara.
“Damn.” Tara sighed.
Willow shrugged, they had been caught anyway. Might as well make Buffy and Xander squirm. Well, Buffy anyway. “It doesn’t matter, we taped over your tenth birthday with wild lesbian porn. It’s still in the VCR if you wanna watch… Actually, I can go get it, and then call Dawn down and we can all watch it togeth…”
“Okay! Alright… you win.” Buffy squealed.
“Almost a minute before you stopped me, Buff. I am proud.” Willow said with a mock smile, her tongue peaking out through her teeth. “Its gunna be even better when Tara comes and visits me at college and…”
“No, conversation ended!”
Everyone laughed and Tara just looked over at Willow, watching the redhead laugh, beauty, pure beauty. She thought. She glanced over at the fireplace to see the clock. “I’m sorry to disappoint, but it’s getting late, I should probably head home.”
“I’ll drive you.” Willow said reaching for her keys on the coffee table, easily giving up anything else to spend a little while longer with Tara.
“Its okay. I can walk.” Tara said confidently.
“You can, yes. I’ve seen you. But, I do have a car.”
“I have feet.”
“Nice feet they are, sweetie. But, I have a car.”
“I’m not gunna win in any way, am I?”
“The chances are slim to none. Actually, right after somebody says something like that they always lose. Because it’s basically like waving a white flag and saying, “you win, take me home, you sexy girl.” Except that whole, ‘sexy girl’ part… because well…”
“How many breaths did you take that entire time?” Tara asked, mockingly.
“I don’t remember, I seem to be rather light headed though.” Willow giggled, steadying herself by reaching for Tara’s arm. Tara holding her up easily, pulling her in closer, they were length to length and Willow had her head in Tara’s neckline.
“Don’t worry, I’ll catch you.
Don’t ever worry.
No need for reminding,
You’re still all that matters to me.”
(The Get Up Kids)
“Take me home, sexy girl.” Tara whispered in Willow’s ear.

Willow drove home solemnly, Tara’s hand in hers. She just desperately had to say something. She turned on her left blinker and pulled to the side of the road.
“I know we said we weren’t gunna talk about it. But I just have to say one thing.” She said quickly. Tara just nodded. “What I said, about you visiting me at school, I meant it. That’s how we’re gunna make it work. Its you and me, darling.”
“I know. And I kinda like it that way.” Tara smiled and pulled Willow in for a gentle and chaste kiss. “I love you.” She smiled.
Willow just kissed her, again. Relishing in the moment. Tara’s arm came around Willow’s back, and gently started gliding her over onto her lap. Willow was kneeling on the seat, legs on either side of Tara, her hands trailing and kisses lingering. “I love you.” She whispered into the kiss.
“Put your hand in my hand, baby
Don’t ever look back.
Let the world around us,
Just fall apart,
Baby, we can make it if we’re heart to heart.”
(The Starting Line)
After a few minutes of kiss, groping and the occasionally breather of cuddles, Willow decided that Tara should probably get home soon. She rolled off and got herself situated in her own seat. She started the car, put it in gas and was on the road, but within the first thirty seconds, her hand found Tara’s. Her hand would always find Tara’s.

Willow walked Tara to her door, the lights were still on and Willow knew that Tara’s parents were still awake. That meant that they couldn’t get the goodbye that they both wanted, but would have a whole summer to make up for.
Willow gave Tara a chaste kiss on the lips. “Call me tomorrow, or something. Kay?”
“Closed lipped,
Another goodnight kiss
Is robbed of all its passion.”
(Dashboard)
“Of course.”
“I’m gunna stay up for a while, so call my cell phone if you need me.” Willow said, taking the phone out of her pocket and turning it on.
“Okay.” Tara sighed. “I love you.” Pulling Willow in for a huge hug. But, it was still gentle and soft. Full of love and comfort.
“Love you too, baby.” The redhead said, breathing in the scent of Tara. “Sleep well.” She pulled back and started walking away, Tara’s hand still in her own. She didn’t let go until the last second of distance was pulled between them.
