Tara was lying in bed watching the suns dusty rays seep through her burgundy curtains. She wanted to curl up in a ball and just live in the memory of Willow’s kiss. She had relived the moment so many times, mesmerised by every movement the red head made. The feeling of Willow’s sweet caress across her hands and lips, made a feeling she, couldn’t describe, well up in the pit of her stomach. She just wanted to reach out and touch her again, but she knew that her time was up with Willow. She was to much of a wimp to stand up to her Father, so why would Willow want to be with her anyway. She knew what she would have to do that night when she met Willow. It was going to be the most horrific thing she’s ever had to do, but she felt that it was probably the right thing, even though it felt so wrong.
* * * *
“So what you’re trying to tell me is, that because you’re on holiday it doesn’t count?” Willow’s face was scrunched up in utter confusion as she tried to understand the logic of the Slayer, that was sitting in front of her nibbling casually at her forth blueberry muffin of the morning.
“Well” Buffy said between bites of muffin, “I just don't think that it matters. I mean I love Riley and all, but I do feel that her can be a bit clingy and mopey sometimes. I just need some fun you know? Without all the initiative talk and dates that involve walking around a graveyard all night with stakes and holy water.”
Willow took another bite of her bagel so that the Slayer couldn’t see the little giggle stretching its way across her face. She said in a mocking tone. “Well, I mean if your sure that that’s what you want Buffy, I’m not going to tell you that it’s the wrong thing to do.” She gave a little nod with her lips pressed together in a smile “Go for it.”.
Buffy was now the one that was completely confused by Willow’s reply. She put on her winge face, “Willow, what do you mean ‘go for it’. this isn’t some football team talk! You’re meant to make me feel bad about Riley and tell me that its totally the wrong thing to do and” Willow was looking straight over Buffy shoulder to the window to the swimming pool were a very attractive girl was getting in.
“WHY AREN’T YOU LISTENING TO ME!!!” Buffy shreaked across the table, startling Willow so much that she jumped out of her seat.

“Huh?” she replied completely gob smacked at the Slayers outburst. The whole breakfast room had turned round and were now all whispering to one another and pointing.
“I was talking and you were just,” Buffy turned round to see what the red head had actually been staring at the whole way through her very important speech. “Willow were you checking the swimmers out?” The hacker went bright red and couldn’t believe that Buffy had caught her checking out the extremely hot girls through the window.
“I was urm, well Buffy. Coz well you know” Willow was completely unable to make a sentence. She was preparing in her head how she was going to explain her new found love.
“Well I must admit they are kinda hot.” Buffy turned her head to the side to check out the possible talent in the other room.
“Huh”, Willow wasn’t sure what she was meant to say to such a remark.
Buffy turned back to see Willow tensed and shocked to the bone. “Oh Will, chill out its okay, I mean every girl doesn’t it. I think that its like in our genes or something”.
Willow’s mouth hit the floor, she tried to make a sentence again. This time being a little bit more successful. “You mean that you look at, well them, like that too?” Willow was in disbelief at the Slayers instant honesty.
“Hell yeah!” The Slayer let out a little giggle at what she thought was Willow’s innocence. “Men in those little Speedo shorts.” Buffy made a suggestive hand gesture, leaving Willow mystified. “ Just leaves nothing to the imagination.”
Willow just sank into her chair, relieved that the Slayer wasn’t saying what she thought she was. She then realised what Buffy was looking at and felt instantly sick. She couldn’t look at a man in the same way after being with Tara, the intimacy she’d had with Oz was just so different. She loved the way Tara’s body moved and felt, she enjoyed the soft curves and lines. It wasn’t so much the hating of men. She was just more centred around the girl on girl action.
“Willow are you okay? That was what you were looking at right?” Buffy was baffled by the look that had crossed Willow’s features.
“Yeah sure Buff, I’m just fine” she sighed deeply and crammed another chunk of bagel into her mouth. Trying to disguise her relief that her best friend hadn’t found out, but also a sudden rush guilt that she hadn’t told Buffy yet.
Buffy just shrugged off Willow’s weirdness and carried on eating and talking, at the same time. “So should it be the blue or the white?”
“Again with the ‘huh’” Willow didn’t have a clue what Buffy was talking about and didn’t really care at that point. She knew that she had to tell Buffy, her conscience was killing her. She hadn’t really thought how Buffy would take it. She was so scared that she was going to lose her best friend, people could be fine about the gayness when it wasn’t someone they knew. What if Buffy thought she liked her more than just a mate, and refused to sleep in the same room. She would have destroyed the strong bond that her and Buffy had created.
She built up the confidence and decided that it was now or never. “Buffy there’s . . .”she was rudely interrupted by a wide eyed slayer staring over her shoulder.
“KEN!!!” Buffy got up from her chair and ran towards the ‘walking talking Barbie’ companion.
Willow stared at the empty chair in front of her. “Maybe later then” she picked up her bagel and finished off the last few bites. She was actually slightly relieved that she didn’t have to tell Buffy. Maybe Ken walking in at the exact moment was an omen that it wasn’t the right time to tell her. Willow mused to herself whilst staring straight ahead at the swimming pool. “mmmm, bagels and bathing suits.”
