Summary – Set slightly in the future, 24-year-old Willow and Tara run into each other, it’s set mostly in New York so no Sunnydale or hell mouth or anything. Just good ol’ fashioned romance.
Part 14 New York, New York (Frank Sinatra) Tara and Willow looked up in wonder at the tall statue of a lady holding a torch and a book. Their hands entwined as they took in the sight of the “Statue of Liberty” in front of them. The view was awe inspiring and gave them a great sense of patriotism as they gazed upon the symbol of the freedom they often took for granted everyday.
Tara was amazed that in the three months she’d been living in New York she’d not taken the time off to go and see a national treasure, an international wonder, or any of the other sights of the city she now happily called home. Willow was out to rectify that in the coming three days, they’d taken the Friday off of work and they had the weekend to spend cruising around the city taking is the sights and sounds of their home city.
They strolled around the island, taking some time to read some of the names of the immigrants on the Wall of Honour, both looking for the others surname on the wall as they searched for possible relatives that brought them to America.
They bumbled around the place like a couple of tourists, Willow had not been there in many a year and Tara hadn’t been there at all, in essence they were like a couple of tourist, only they lived in the place they were visiting. Willow handed a camera to a nice looking elderly couple and asked for them to take a picture of her and Tara standing in front of the statue, they smiled and heard the click, thanking the older couple, they took back their camera and continued on with their sight-seeing. Tara was sure to go to the gift shop before leaving, making sure she got herself a t-shirt and a fridge magnet as a souvenir of her visit, Willow chuckled at her and then copied her. Tara couldn’t help but chuckle herself as Willow payed for her own set of merchandise.
… … … …
The girls stopped for lunch on the South Street Seaport, in a restaurant looking directly over the Brooklyn Bridge. They took in the sight as they ate their meal, just revelling in the company of one another. They made idle chit chat as they ate their lunch, discussing their further destinations for the weekend and of the sight of the bridge in front of them.
Tara smiled looking up at the bridge; the look over the bay gave her a feeling of serenity yet at the same time feeling like a part of a busy bustling world. She watched as the warm June sun bathed the water with a shiny tint that reflected in her lover’s eyes. The calm water gave way to the bustling of traffic on the bridge above, it gave her a sense of home, and she could really get used to that sight.
After lunch the girls walked hand in hand down the street, looking in the shops and stopping for a quick mocha when the need arose at one of the many cafes. Tara thought that while she may miss the quieter streets of her part of town in Cleveland, she felt alive, as if she was part of the big picture amidst the hustle and bustle of the sidewalks of New York.
“It’s so easy to feel lost, yet alive here.” Tara explained as she and Willow continued walking down the street hand in hand.
“Yeah I know, I mean growing up here you never really notice it all but when you take the time to think about it you can see how special it really is.” Willow replied, remembering back to her childhood days on the streets of Queens.
“Tell me why again we haven’t done this before?” Tara smirked to her girlfriend, this seemed such a wonderful idea when Willow had brought it up the weekend before and couldn’t believe that they hadn’t already done something similar to this already.
“I remember thinking about doing it with you when you first moved here but for some reason or another it just seemed to slip my mind, though I’ve remembered now and I’m glad I did.” Willow smiled proudly to her girl, she was real glad she remembered, now she had one hell of a wonderful weekend planned for her girl and couldn’t wait to spend every last second of it with her.
“Well I’m glad you remembered, it’s very nice of you to show your girlfriend around her home town.” Tara giggled at the silliness of it all, she still couldn’t get over the fact she’d been there so long and hadn’t seen the place properly.
“Always a pleasure.” Willow replied, smiling happily at her lover as they continued to walk hand in hand down the street.
… … … …
As evening approached, the girls caught a cab uptown slightly to SoHo to check out some of the art galleries that they had on offer. Being the art lovers they were it was a definite stop for the two of them on their tour. Tara had made sure they got some cultural learning done whilst on their tour and Willow had offered to show Tara some of the art galleries in SoHo and Greenwich one evening.
The two girls walked hand in hand throughout gallery after gallery, taking in wonderful paintings, beautiful sculptures and other worldly arts that were on display. They took in works from modern artist, recent artists and even historic ones, taking in the beauty that the artist had truly captured in his/her work.
This is where Tara felt at home, her mother was an avid lover of art and she had passed that love right onto her. Tara would walk around, pointing out various pieces of work excitedly to Willow as they searched through the galleries. Willow couldn’t help but smile as she noted how excited Tara got when she noticed something that she either had a great knowledge of or found something new and wonderful for the first time. She was an admirer of art but not anywhere near the extent of her girlfriend, though watching Tara running around like a kid in a candy store made sure she wasn’t going to regret bringing her girl here.
After rollicking around in the galleries for a couple of hours, their tummy’s started to growl and dictated their next move. The caught a cab to the heart of the village, finding a nice outdoor restaurant for dinner and a nice alcoholic beverage. Willow ordered a couple of glasses of champagne for the two of them during dinner, Tara pouted at her lover, a nice cold beer was what the doctor ordered she thought.
“Don’t worry you can get your hands on my Heiny when we get to our hotel room tonight.” Willow winked devilishly at her lover across the table. Tara’s lips turned in the crooked evil smile she got when Willow brought up images of the two of them alone in a bedroom. Her mind seemed to take a one tracked approach with those things put together.
“I fully intend to anyways Miss Rosenberg.” Tara’s grin shot straight across the table to her lover.
“Vixen.” Willow grinned back; she loved the temptress ways her lover took on whenever the subject arose.
After a satisfying meal, the tow girls walked hand in had towards Washington Square Park, they walked past the university, with Willow showing of the place she earned her college degree proudly, before making their way to the Washington Arch. The girls once again got another photo of themselves in front of the Arch together and made their way across the park to the Washington Square Hotel where they would be spending the night in one of the honeymoon suites. May as well make good use of the money they were earning.
… … … …
Willow awoke early the next morning, though not early enough to beat a perky Tara out of bed. Willow’s eyes fluttered open at about ten past eight and after a heavy love making session the previous night, was amazed she was up already.
“Hey sleepy head, didn’t think you were gonna get up for a while there.” A fully clothed and showered Tara came perkily into the main room of the honeymoon suite folding up her clothes from the day before and piling them in a bag. She was wearing clothes she’d brought the previous day on the South Street Seaport.
“What do you mean already, its like only been six hours since we actually decided we needed to get some sleep.” Willow muffled as she slammed a pillow over her head, blocking out all sense of the morning.
“Yeah well whose fault is that Miss?” Tara crossed her arms as she glared playfully at her lover.
“Well excuse me if I like to return the favour to my girl during a night of passion.” Willow removed the pillow from her face and huffed at the suggestion their late night was her fault.
“True, but you did kinda draw it out a bit long.” Tara queried on the other hand.
“Complaining are we Miss Maclay?” Willow asked, sitting up a little as she crossed her arms across her chest and perked an eyebrow up at her girlfriend.”
“Well no.” Tara slunk her head in defeat, a sly grin crossing her face as she remembered the intense release she’d had the previous night after her girlfriend’s slow and steady wins the race method of making love.
“Apology accepted.” Willow huffed, nodding her head in satisfaction at being proven right once again, Tara couldn’t resist a slight chuckle at her girlfriend’s reaction.
“Come on sleepy, Sam’s meeting us downstairs at nine remember, unless you actually want to lug our shopping around with us today.” Tara said as she offered her hand out to Willow to give her that helping hand she needed. Instead of letting Tara pull her up, Willow pulled Tara onto the bed with her and closed her lips onto the blonde’s in a passionate kiss.
“Mmmm, Sam can wait.” Tara mumbled as she fell into the embrace.
… … … …
After a forty-five minute lovemaking session, a quickie by their standards, the girls showered and dressed. Just as they were finished a knocking on their door interrupted another smooch that had started just as the girls were about to head downstairs.
“You two had better be in there so I can kill you.” Sam’s voice rung loud and clear as she banged hard on the door. Willow and Tara broke their embrace and sighed at being interrupted, though they were supposed to meet their friend downstairs just over half an hour ago. Tara broke from the embrace and opened the door for Sam who was none to pleased at the moment.
“Half an hour, half an hour I waited down there. I drive half way across the city, to do a favour for you two, and you stand me up. Not very nice of you two.” Sam was obviously displeased, having caught a cab for the sole purpose of taking their shopping back to Tara’s apartment.
“Sorry.” Both girls offered meekly, hoping it would be enough to get them out of trouble.
“Well okay, as long as you two weren’t having sex I guess I can let it pass.” Sam softened a bit until she saw the look on the girl’s face.
“I should have known, I was waiting patiently downstairs and you two are busy getting off. The nerve of some people.” Sam huffed, more upset that it wasn’t her getting off than the fact she had to wait.
“Sorry.” Both girls offered once again, using the same meek voice as before.
“Ah I can’t stay mad at you two, though you realise it means you’ll just have to buy me plenty of pressies today.” Sam grinned; her change in mood relaxed the two girls who agreed immediately to settle their debt.
“Thank god Alex is on pick-up duty tomorrow.” Sam smiled back at the two girls as she took the shopping bags and left, leaving the two girls to their second day on the town.
… … … …
A cab took the girls to the UN building in Midtown East. The girls took in the sight of a place where delegates from all over the world fought for world peace. A quick squeeze to one another’s hand let them both know that there was still hope out there for a happy ending.
After a few pictures at the UN building the girls moved their tour onto the Grand Central Terminal. Being a Saturday the missed the free tours which they ran on Friday and Wednesday, and due too only organising it last weekend, wasn’t enough time to book a proper tour. They decided then that they would explore the shops and station for themselves.
They walked with their hands entwined, checking out a few retail stores, grabbing a bagel and a mocha at a café before finding a nice little place to get lunch. They both enjoyed a large salad, which they shared as they kept stealing longing glances at one another during their meal. Both girls couldn’t believe how perfect this weekend was going and only hoped it would continue into the remainder of today and all of tomorrow.
“Having a good time so far?” Willow smiled across the table.
“The best.” Tara replied with a smile of her own after finishing her mouthful of lettuce.
“Good, cause it gets better.” Willow smiled to her girlfriend across the table.
“Looking forward to it Miss Rosenberg.” Tara grinned to her lover as they continued to stare lovingly into one another’s eyes.
… … … …
After a delightful lunch the girls walked the few blocks to the Rockefeller Centre. Willow was interested to find out that during the construction of the centre, it gave fourteen hundred jobs to American’s during the great depression, a little tidbit that brought a smile to her heart as she thought of all the families that this building helped make happy in that time.
The girls took a stroll through the Channel Gardens, taking in the beauty of Mother Nature at her best. Tara would always stop and smell the roses, a motto her mother had taught her very early on in life, one Willow couldn’t agree more with. They spent the afternoon blissfully walking around hand in hand; they visited the statue of Prometheus before heading to the lower plaza for dinner.
The outdoor restaurant was really nice as a cool evening breeze settled in on what had been another warm June day. Willow munched away at a hearty steak whilst Tara chowed down on a vegetarian lasagne. The contradiction in meals caused a giggle from both girls when they ordered their meals. On such a lovely evening, Willow still had a few surprises up her sleeve and kept Tara guessing.
After their meal they took a stroll up Fifth Avenue, heading towards the Hilton New York where they were going to be spending the night at the insistence of Willow. On their way they took in the sight if St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Trump Tower as they once again continued to walk hand in hand.
… … … …
Tara wasn’t sure why they were back at the hotel so early but she had a reassurance from Willow that they weren’t ending the night early. They got into their room and found a couple of evening dresses. Willow had Alex drop them off earlier in the day so that they would be waiting for the two of them when they got there.
Willow and Tara changed into their respective gowns, in separate bedrooms of course; else they may not have gotten to this part of the evening at all. The two girls in their evening gowns waited in the lobby of the hotel for what Tara thought was a cab. Though to her shock when a limo pulled up and Willow directed her to it and opened the door for her, she got in thinking just what her girlfriend had planned for the night.
The limo driver had instructions of where to go already and didn’t need to ask for directions when the two ladies entered the limo. Tara was giddy for the whole trip, completely unaware of where they were headed. Willow just wore a knowing smile, knowing Tara would love it when she got there.
The limo pulled up in front of the Lincoln Centre. Willow tipped the driver and ducked around to open the door for Tara. Tara took the extended hand that Willow offered once she opened the door and smiled as she looked upon the building in front of her.
Willow lead Tara into the centre, a ballet performance was first on the cards for their evening followed by a performance by the New York City Opera. Willow knew Tara loved the opera as part of her love for the arts and well, dreaming of being a ballerina when they were growing up was a dream they had both shared as they took in the sights of people moving gracefully across the stage.
A perfect evening ended when the two ladies returned back to their room for anther night of passionate love making as the second day of their three day tour came to a close. It was kinda upsetting in that after tomorrow they would have to go back to work and there was still so much they wanted to do.
… … … …
That morning they were both awake bright and early, Alex came and collected their shopping, much the same as Sam had done the day before. Luckily for him he didn’t get the time delay that Sam experienced, though it wasn’t from lack of trying on Tara’s part, Willow was still completely worn out from the night before.
Being ready early, the girls decided on a stroll through Central Park. They once again happily strolled hand in hand through the serene environment, waving politely as bicyclist rang their bell as they rode past. It was perfect weather for another perfect day and Tara wondered to herself if it gets much better than this, walking hand in hand with your girlfriend through the park. She realised that at the moment, it didn’t.
“Whatchya thinkin’? Asked Willow as she watched Tara’s face float into the clouds.
“Just how perfect this all is, walking here, with you, on this beautiful day.” Tara smiled and squeezed Willow’s hand for effect.
“I’m glad you liked this weekend and I’m glad you like our city.” Willow smiled but her voice had an honest and truthful tone to it.
“It is our city isn’t it, well that’s how it feels anyway.” Tara stated happily as she realised that she wasn’t only beginning to think that she was living here but that she belonged here, with the redhead beside her always.
A trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art was on the cards next. The largest museum in the Western Hemisphere was a must on their tour and they spent a large part of the morning going through it. With so much to see it seemed like they only skimmed over it when they left but they had a plan to stick to and by golly as long as Willow Rosenberg was on the case they were going to.
The girls took a bus down Fifty-ninth Street to take in some of the magnificent residential buildings in New York. They then took a walk down Fifth Avenue once again, stopping briefly for lunch as they continued down, doing a spot of shopping along the way, though nothing major as they had brought pretty much everything the previous two days. They then proceeded to turn west towards Times Square.
… … … …
The first thing the girls did was buy a discount ticket for a Broadway play later that evening before making their way to the Empire State Building. The girls brought their tickets and made their way up the escalator to the second floor before hitching a ride on the elevator up to the eightieth floor. Once there they were lucky enough to get the option to walk the remaining flight of stairs to the observatory, which they did so. Once they reached the top they were greeted with the sight of the sun setting against the backdrop of New York City.
Willow wrapped her arms around Tara and pulled her close as the two girls just stood there and watched as the pink/orange sky slowly turned a deep blue as night set in. They grabbed a meal and had their photo taken once again on the outside viewing area with the New York skyline lit up as their backdrop. The photos would make for a memorable weekend when they looked back on them in an album several years down the future. At that moment both girls silently thought about and hoped that they had a future together.
They made the trek back down to the bottom and made their way back to Broadway to catch their show. They sat huddled together as they watched the play on the stage in front of them play out as they reminisced about their great weekend. Both silently vowed that they would have to do it again sometime and looked up and smiled at one another simultaneously. The show ended and all that was left of their weekend was the long cab ride back to Tara’s place where they had agreed was the place to spend the night.
On the ride back, Tara had fallen asleep on Willow’s shoulder as they drove home; the weekend had been as exhausting, as it was fun and a good nights sleep was definitely on the cards tonight.
“Hey sweetie, we’re home.” Willow gently shook Tara when the taxi came to a stop and she paid the driver. Tara’s eyes flickered open briefly as Willow eased her out of the car. Willow would have carried her if getting in wouldn’t have been such a problem, though her frail weight and the obstacles of living in an apartment instead of a house meant she just had to walk Tara up cradled very close to herself.
The two girls silently made their way into the apartment, Hayley’s coat stretched out over a chair indicated that she was sharing Alex’s room and the gentle snoring indicated both were sound asleep.
Once they were inside, Willow scooped Tara into her arms and Tara snuggled her sleepy eyes into Willow’s shoulder. Willow expertly moved her way through the apartment, careful not to knock Tara against anything before gently planting the blonde on the bed. As she tried to pull away to get herself ready for bed she noticed that Tara had absolutely no intension of letting go from around her neck. Willow just smiled and instead of fighting it, cuddled up close to Tara and settled in for a nice night sleep. It’d been a long and tiring weekend and she’d do it every weekend if it was half as good as the one just gone.
The two girls quickly dozed off, dreams of many future weekends to be spent together were sure to be had.

Isn't it funny how you feel your most tired five minutes before you have to get up.
