Summary: A different story about how Willow and Tara meet and fall in love.
Setting: Set during season six. Buffy never died. This story is set in Sunnydale, the Hell mouth and Vampires do exist.
Note: This is a Vamp Tara story.
Willow walked back into her dorm room, and smiled hugely at what she saw. Tara was standing in the middle of the room, looking adorable in Willow’s pyjamas.
Willow bit her lip to stop herself from laughing, and asked Tara, “are they ok for you?”
Tara smiled and said, “yeah, they’re …they’re not what I usually wear, but they’re great.”
“So, what side do you want?” Willow asked.
Tara looked at her strangely, and asked her, “What do you mean?”
“The bed, what side do you want?” Willow asked again.
“Oh, you choose,” Tara replied.
“But you’re the guest.” Willow said.
“It’s your bed,” Tara pointed out.
“Ok, I’ll take the right.” Willow said, “Do you mind?”
Tara smiled and said, “Fine by me.”
Willow climbed into bed first, Tara looked around the room nervously, wondering if she really should get into the bed, and how she would get home before sunrise without Willow suspecting anything.
“”What’s wrong?” Willow asked worriedly.
Tara snapped out of her thoughts, “Oh, uh, nothing.”
The look of concern on Willow face made Tara’s decision for her. There was no way she was leaving.
She climbed into bed, and Willow turned out the light. Tara wasn’t sure if she should lie with her back to Willow, or if she should face her. She had never been so nervous in her life. Willow turned on her side and faced Tara. She was about to say something to her, but was interrupted by the door bursting open. Tara sat up quickly; and showed her true face, it had become natural for her to turn her game-face on whenever she sensed danger.
Willow quickly turned the light on and saw that it was just a drunk student who had wandered in.
“Sorry, I guess this isn’t my dorm huh? You should lock your door though.” The student said, before walking out and closing the door behind him.
As Willow turned to Tara to see if she was ok, her heart broke.
Tara’s beautiful face was now that of a vampire.
Willow quickly got out of bed and grabbed the cross from her bedside table, and pointed it at Tara. She couldn’t believe she had been so stupid not to notice.
Tara couldn’t believe she had forgotten to change her face back. She had just been trying to protect Willow form whatever was in the room.
“Get out!” Willow screamed at her.
Tara got out of bed and tried to walk towards Willow, but was stopped by the cross Willow was pointing at her. Her face now looked human.
“Willow, please, I’m not going to hurt you.” Tara said, trying her best to calm Willow down.
“What’s wrong with you? Why did you come here, why did you agree to stay over? Why didn’t you just kill me?!” Willow asked.
“I’m not like other vampires Willow. I’m not evil…I have a soul.” Tara said.
Willow lowered the cross slightly, not sure whether to believe Tara or not, although her heart knew Tara was telling the truth, her head didn’t.
“How do I know you’re telling the truth?” Willow asked.
“Don’t you think I would have killed you by now?” Tara said.
Willow lowered the cross completely. “How old are you really?” She asked.
“Twenty-one, I was turned into a vampire four years ago.” Tara replied.
“If you telling the truth, how did you get a soul?” Willow asked.
Tara sighed and sat on the bed. “My mother and I were witches; we used to practise together all the time. When she found out what had happened to me, she cast a spell to give me a soul.”
Willow sat down on the bed, sitting far away fro Tara. “Where’s your mom now?” She asked.
Tara felt her eyes fill up with tears. “She’s dead.” She said.
“I’m sorry.” Willow said simply. She waited a few minutes before she spoke again. “Was it yo?” She asked.
Tara knew Willow was going to ask that question. “No, she died of cancer six months after she gave me my soul back.”
“How long were you a vampire before she cast the spell on you?” Willow asked.
“One night.” Tara replied. Willow let out the breath she had been holding. She was relieved that Tara had been a vampire for such a short time.
“So, I guess that means you didn’t hurt anyone.” Willow said.
Tara turned away from her, she knew she couldn’t lie to Willow, but she didn’t wan to have to tell her the truth.
“Tara, did you hurt someone?”
Tara turned back and faced her again. “I can’t lie to you, but you’re not going to like what you hear.”
“Tell me.” Willow demanded.
Tara took a deep breath, and said, “The night I was turned, I went to my best friends house. I was going there…to kill her. I know that’s terrible, but it wasn’t me doing it, it was the monster that was inside me. Anyway, she wasn’t home, but her mom invited me in to wait for her. I was so hungry; I didn’t want to wait, so I killed her mom. My friend came back, and saw me standing over her mom’s body. I was gonna kill her too, but she was so strong. She was a slayer, you see. You do know about slayers right?” Tara asked.
Willow nodded, not knowing what to say.
“We fought, and after a while, I got so hungry, I just left, and killed the first human I saw. My friends never gotten over it, and she’s been trying to find me since it happened, she doesn’t know I got my soul. My mom put the spell on me when I got home. I told her what I’d done and she told me I had to leave, or I’d be killed. I went straight away. I wish I hadn’t, I wish I’d been with my mom when she died. But she was right, I would have been killed. So that’s my story, I’m guessing you hate me right?”
Willow shook her head, “I don’t know what I feel right now. But you’re right though, it wasn’t you who killed your friend’s mom. What was your friend’s name anyway?”
“Faith.”
