This has been bumping around in my head for a while, and I finally just had to get it out.
Time frame - Season 4, Wild at Heart
Summary: Willow did not escape unscathed from her encounter with Veruca. Now she must find a way to live with the consequences.
Chapter 1 -- The First Bite is the Deepest
She remembered backing into the corner, trying to avoid the gnashing teeth of the female werewolf. The snarls lead to an awkward fall. She was scampering backwards as quickly as she could, the squeaking of her sneakers on the tile floor, her sweaty palms slipping slightly on the cold surface. Her back hit the wall, and she knew there was no escape. It was all happening too fast, a blur of fur and claws that she couldn’t possibly avoid. Her arm coming up to protect herself, the vice grip of the jaws closing on her left forearm, the searing pain of the bones being crushed. A shriek of pain and anger erupted, leaving her ears ringing. The power of her will made manifest, the beast being knocked backwards into the stainless steel table in the lab as the door burst open and Buffy rushed towards the werewolf, but it was too late…
Every morning since then, she’d woken up the same way, panting and covered in sweat. Buffy pretended not to notice, but her fake sleeping couldn’t fool Willow. Buffy snored like a lumberjack when she was actually asleep. Awake now, the pain in her arm made itself known.
“Owie, owie, owie,” Willow whispered. Well, at least her left arm was awake, the rest of her, not so much. The throbbing wouldn’t be ignored, so Willow gently cradled her arm to her chest and bravely swung her feet out from under the covers. She stood slowly, took a steadying breath, and shuffled to her desk to find the pain medication and her sling. It was damn hard to open those pill bottles with only one hand. Child-proof her foot, they were patient proof. As Willow often did, she had thought her way through this problem. She placed the bottle on the desk, with her right hand; she pressed down and turned the bottle top slightly. The reward was a few pills that would dull the pain enough to function for a few hours.

“Giles, we have to find a way around this. I’m not going to lock Willow up in a cage” Buffy plead. She paced between the research table and the counter at the Magic Box. Buffy was scared, and she didn’t like being scared. She liked action, and when left with no other options, she paced – like now.
“I quite agree with your sentiments, but we must take precautions. We cannot allow Willow to harm others. You know, as well as I do, that she would never forgive herself for that. What’s more, we must protect her. Until we know for certain, I must insist that we err on the side of caution.” Giles stood behind a stack of open books on the table. All the research completed thus far failed to point to a happy ending.
“I don’t know what you all are so worried about. We just have to put Willow in a cage three nights a month. It’s not like she’ll be running around eating children or anything” Anya reasoned.
Buffy turned towards the register, “Thank you for sharing your happy thoughts Anya, we all appreciate it.”
“What Ahn was trying to say was that we have a nice safe place where Willow can go get her wolf on. She won’t hurt herself, she can’t get out, and you can check on her during your patrol,” Xander tried to translate. He shifted from foot to foot, and then shoved his hands in his pockets for good measure.
“Hello, I am here you know” Willow pointed out from her perch upon the steps to the loft. “I’m on a bunch of drugs, but I am in the room. And, I would like to point out that we haven’t had a full moon yet. We don’t know that I’ll get all furry and snarly,” her good arm flailing to make her point. Currently, Willow did not appear at all dangerous. She appeared as, well, as Willow. Absent her “resolve face” she thought of herself as very non-threatening. How could someone with color coded notes be threatening to anyone?
I'm a sucker for wolfie W/T fics, must be the dog/wolf loving side of me.
(Sadly though, I have yet to read a finished wolfie W/T fic...
)
It's all stitched up nicely though? It wouldn't be so bad to lock up wolfie Willow, would it? As opposed to letting her roam around eating some random person. Heh poor Anya
always saying the obvious, but necessary and true, things and getting her head bit off (figuratively speaking).
I'm sure it will be cool. And can't wait for her meeting Tara. (Willow will meet her or Willwolf will get her first? ahhhh
can't wait)
When Tara comes along i'm sure she'll make Will all better.
You write the scooby gang really well. Their reactions were so spot on.
Can't wait for more of this awesome story.
