Spoiler warning for Season 4.
Title- Angels and Goddesses.
Rating- PG-13 to start....this is a multi chapter piece...trust me, the rating will grow as the relationship does.
Copyright Disclaimer- All characters belong to Joss and ME...ME being Mutant Enemy and not me(sigh). I'm just borrowing them to play a little.
Spoilers- As I said above this has a warning for Season 4. The story itself will refer to or thread in and out of the episodes at the beginning of Tara's and Willow's relationship. So be warned if you are not familiar with this particular time...mostly Hush through NMR...that there will be references and pieces within.
Notes- The story is set in an alternate universe during Season 4. It begins when Willow first notices Tara....long before Hush. It is a romance, love at first sight stuff, written mostly from Willows pov at the beginning (this will change as the relationship evolves).
Authors Note- It has been a while since I have written anything of substance so I am afraid I may be a little rusty. I do therefore appreciate any feedback that you can give...I know that there are some pretty experienced writers on this board...and the audience, well you all are pretty much Willow and Tara experts and connoisseurs. So please have at it.
I wrote this as a romance...I wanted to keep it light. If you are looking for angst....this is not your story. I wrote this as a distraction from all the pain of this season...if we want angst all we have to do is turn on the TV. Seeing as things may get a little hard over the next couple of weeks...I thought this might be a good time to share this. A little fantasy can be a very good thing...denial can be the next best thing to being there.
"Okay....here it goes!" Athame says nervously.

Chapter I: That Certain Slant Of Light.
Willow shifted the books in her arms as she crossed the quad. It was a beautiful day at UC Sunnydale.
"Saturday morning, my favorite time," she hummed eyeing her target.
"Willow....Willow," she heard from behind her. Willow turned to see Buffy jogging towards her.
"Hey Wil," Buffy puffed with rosy cheeks, "what's up?"
"Buffy, oh...I thought you were sleeping...did I wake you?" Willow worried.
"Nah," Buffy smiled "I was just playing possum, didn't want to move yet. Then I remembered that I promised to meet with Giles at 10:00. Why I agreed, I have no idea," she sighed shaking her head. "Hey, wait...you want to come with? I'll get us some bagels."
"Bagels!" Buffy spoke right to Willow's stomach. "What kind...cinnamon raisin, sugar, onion, salt...what about pumpernickel with cream cheese and lox?"
"Lox, eewww!"
"Hey...lox is good, lox is Jewish, Jewish is good...remember?"
"Of course I remember," Buffy laughed, "I'm just teasing." Buffy smiled her best flirty smile that she saved solely for Willow persuasion. "So you coming with?" She cooed.
Willow looked at Buffy then towards the library. It was calling her...she was almost there. ' But bagels, ' she thought, ' and Buffy and Giles and research and fun...no, no, no, I have a mission...I have a paper...I am paper girl...no, college paper girl...research paper girl...no bagels for me, no sirree...I don't need them. I have will power, my stomach can say no, hey, I'm not even hungry.' Willow suddenly remembered that she had eaten already. She nodded with satisfaction, ' I ate...I'm not hungry...I can resist...I can say no, right?'
"Wil"
"Wil"
"Wil"
'Oops,' Buffy was speaking to her. "Huh?" Wil responded.
"You coming with?" Buffy smiled, " I'll throw in some mochas."
"Hey, you're evil...no fair. Here I am trying to resist your wily bagel ways and your seducing me with mochas. What kind of friend are you anyway?"
" A good one who is trying to save you from Saturday morning library death." Buffy answered moving her head emphatically towards the hall of tomes.
" That's just it Buf, I don't need saving...I'm excited...I like this time of day...and you never know what could happen...I could meet somebody."
"Yeah right...everyone up and worth meeting is standing right here in front of us."
Willow looked around confused...the quad was empty. She looked back at Buffy who was grinning pleased with her joke. "Oh!" said Willow finally getting it and letting out a small laugh so Buffy wouldn't be disappointed.
"So okay I'll let you go, especially if you promise dinner later...you are so focused today."
"Done." Willow agreed happily, pleased with the resolution. She turned and refocused on her goal as Buffy moved away. 'It's gonna be a good day,' she thought mounting the stone steps. 'It's gonna be a good day, I just know it....this is the right thing to do.'

The library was just as Willow liked it, empty. "This is the perk to studying on Saturday morning." She mused quietly.
Willow found a table in the center of the hall well bordered by the stacks. ' This will do.' She thought spreading out her books and settling into her chair. Reaching into her bag she produced a fistful of pens and a legal pad. ' Now, what color should I use? Should I use different colors for different topics? Should I change them between numbers and text? Or do I just use my calligraphy pen and make it all fancy indexy?'
Willow stared at the multicolored pens now arranged in a fan before her. ' How do I choose? I was so focused before...now I can't decide on a pen or an approach?' She slumped back in her chair. ' I don't know.' She now whimpered. ' Did Buffy break her mood? I've gone from all focus to no focus,' she thought. ' Isn't it just like me to wait until I'm all the way here to do this.'
Willow reached up and absently ran a hand through her hair. She began to scan the room looking for something else to focus on for a minute. Feeling her eyes drawn to her right she found herself fixed on one of the large windows used to lighten the darkened hall. With the sun at its perfect point in the sky, light was pouring into the room creating a path along the marble floor. ' Like moonlight on the water,' she smiled pleased with the sight. 'Beautiful...it is just beautiful.'
Willow's eyes continued to follow the trail as it reached boldly toward the center of the room. Finding the center she began working her way back to its source as if engaging in one long appreciative stroke. ' Wow,' she thought ' it's so....' her thought was stopped by a vision. There under the window was a young woman sitting directly in the light, Willow froze.
"Oh my," she breathed the air leaving her. "Oh my," she whispered again blinking furiously trying to process what she saw.
The young woman was silent, still, outlined in sunlight. Reaching in from behind, the light was washing over her back and across her shoulders framing her in an ethereal glow. Her head was bent forward as she sat curled leaning to the left in the arm chair. Her feet were drawn up to the side slightly hidden by the folds of her long skirt. She looked comfortable there in her chair. Willows eyes were drawn to the book she held in her lap. She could not see the title only her vision's long fingers gently caressing the pages. The vision was reading...concentrating hard, seemingly unaware of any other presence. Willow could barely make out her features. They were in shadows cast by her down turned face...her long hair was falling forward.
'She is beautiful.' Willow thought. She did not need to see to know. No, she knew...she could feel the beauty radiate off this woman like a pulse of light from the sun. 'An angel,' she nodded, ' she looks like an angel.'
The angel shifted in her chair raising her hand to cover a yawn.
Willows mouth fell open, she was lost in the sight of this woman. ' She's making me stupid' thought Willow half smiling. She couldn't even reach a good head babble. Everything around her had slowed. She was held fixed, trapped, mesmerized and hypnotized in the spell cast by the figure before her. Her heart rate decreased as her breathing deepened. She felt an overwhelming sense of calm as if she too had been drawn into the light.
"Okay breathe" she muttered aloud steeling herself to look away. Angel did not seem to notice.
Willow shifted in her chair, her calm short lived. ' This can't be real she thought....I have never had a reaction like this to anyone before.' Willow was beginning to realize that she was responding physiologically as well as emotionally. She felt the warmth growing inside her body, a tickle of excitement, a growing sense of contentment. ' Perhaps I'm imagining her....maybe I made her up.....nope ' she realized looking up from where she had been picking at her jeans, 'still there.'
Angel woman had shifted again moving slowly like a contented cat. Willow carefully raised her eyes unable to keep herself from watching. ' What if she sees me looking?' She wondered unable to look away. ' What if she catches me?'
Angel still did not seem to notice that she wasn't alone.' Does she even know I am here?' Willow wondered almost sadly watching the girl close her book and wedge it between the inner arm of the chair and her outer thigh. Hands free she opened her arms and....'Oh no!' thought Willow, suddenly realizing what she going to do. Willow frantically looked down then up again. The woman was about to.....'stretch!' Willow panicked. Opening her arms further the Angel lifted her face and filled her chest with air. Her hands splayed open and her back first straightened then arched as she took in several more deep breaths. Happy sounds quietly escaped her lips as she hung open like that...suspended in the moment.
Willow had panicked sensing what her response would be. Her heart leapt from its calm rhythm into a full blown race. She felt her stomach flip and drop as she looked upon the open beauty before her. Willow suddenly could not breathe. 'I haven't felt like this since my first Xander kiss.' She thought.' Not even Oz made me feel this way.'
' Whoa, whoa, whoa....what?' Her brain was finally skipping into gear trying to catch her physical responses. ' What?' her brain was shouting. Willow found herself staring at the Angel's breasts. They were full and round, encased in a blue sweater. She could see the face, the full lips and heavy eyelids. She was so open yet hidden, so familiar yet unknown.
Willow's throat had gone dry. "Oh my God " she rasped still unable to breathe, "she's a girl....I'm I'm ...oh my God."
Willow shifted in her chair her body and brain now fully engaged. Her head was swimming ' A girl...I'm looking at a girl...I want to touch a girl....I want to touch that girl...I want to know her... I want to be near her...I want, I want, I want to get out of here!'
She turned towards her table with her multitude of pens and untouched work. "Ohhhh" she groaned letting her head and body drop onto the table. "Owww" she cried before she could stop herself. Her head had landed with a echoing thump, she hadn't anticipated falling so hard. "Owww" she said again more quietly into the wood. Then there was the silence.
'Uh oh' she thought her nose still pressed hard against the table. Mortified, Willow paused afraid to look up, she knew what she would find.
After a long moment Willow raised her face softly rubbing her forehead. A blush had begun to form and was creeping its way up from her shoulders to her cheeks and ears. 'Oh Rosenberg,' she chastised, ' you are such a geek.'
There blinking at her with an expression of concern was the young woman. She was tilting her head as if asking a question but had not yet spoken.
Willow thought she could feel her heart stop in her chest. She suddenly rubbed her forehead and answered the girl thinking she had heard her speak. "Okay," Willow answered pointing to her head, " I'm okay...really," she smiled sheepishly, "sorry" she concluded.
The girl nodded looking relieved...then she returned the smile, shyly at first but then growing. She focused on Willow for a long moment, holding her gaze, then she looked back at her lap.
'The mood is definitely broken now' thought Willow sadly.
Then she found her smile. ' She saw me, ' Willow thought, ' I got a smile.' A sudden burst of joy shook her frame....'Yeah....I got a smile. I, the great and clumsy Willow Rosenberg got a smile.'
Willow looked up pleased with herself. The girl was busy fiddling with the binding of her book still held firmly between her chair and thigh.
Gathering her things, embarrassment still hanging heavy around her, Willow took one fleeting glance at the object of her mornings infatuation and turned quickly toward the door. Stopping as she reached the exit she paused a moment feeling the sensation of the girl on her back. Her eyes were warm on Willow. "Shes looking at me" Willow whispered without turning around, "shes watching me leave."
Encouraged, Willow pushed open the heavy door and slipped into the outer light.
'Wow' her brain shouted to the quad and the sun and the people, ' just Wow.'
