Buffy was in the living room trying to convince Giles to help her make breakfast.
“Buffy I’m sure you are quite capable of cracking an egg and frying it on a skillet all by yourself.” Giles quipped with a smirk.
Buffy paced in front of him. “That’s just it, how do you crack it and not get all those little shell pieces in it?” she said naively. “Come on Giles, I really need a some help here.” she whined.
Turning his gaze away from the television, he answered her plea. “And that’s different from any other time how?” he said dryly. Buffy’s response was to slap him in the arm.
Tara giggled as she watched the scene from the stairs. “It’s ok Buffy. Willow wants pancakes anyway.” she said descending the rest of the stairs. "You can save the great egg debacle for another day."
"Thank goodness." she sighed. Suddenly she realized what Tara meant. She was going to cook. Better, she was going to cook pancakes. Buffy‘s eyes lit up with excitement. She loved Tara‘s cooking. “"Oo, count me in.” she said clapping her hands together.
Breakfast was momentarily forgotten as Buffy tried to figure out how the blonde witch had gotten here in the first place. “Ok, not that I’m not thrilled to see you here, but last time I saw you, I dropped you off at your dorm, right?” she asked placing her hands on her hips. "How the heck did you end up here?"
Tara leaned forward on the back of the arm chair and shrugged her shoulders. “Yeah, well, things just kinda happened. She called. I came.” she said as a matter of fact.
Buffy’s eyes shot wide and an evil grin found its way to her face. “You of all people shouldn’t be saying phrases like that. Miss I‘m-not-exactly-innocent.” she said crossing her arms in front of her.
Tara had decided that she would let the slayer get away with the innocent cracks, but she wasn’t going to get embarrassed about them anymore. “Slayer versus witch, you really want to see who would win?” she said heading into the kitchen.
Buffy stood rooted in place momentarily. Tara wasn‘t one to make threats of any kind, even in jest. She didn't seem to have that problem anymore. ‘I think Anya‘s really rubbing off on her.’ Buffy thought.
Buffy followed the witch into the kitchen and leaned on the counter. “Are you kidding? You’d kick my ass. I’m dumb, but I ain’t stupid.” They girls laughed heartily.
A slayer had speed and strength, but a witch would have all the forces of nature at her command. It wouldn’t even be close.
Buffy sat down and made herself comfortable watching Tara get out the necessary ingredients to make pancakes. “So is Willow getting breakfast in bed?” she asked with smirk.
Tara opened the fridge and got out some butter. “Um, not today. But if I’m lucky, very soon.” she explained with a slight blush.
Buffy looked down at the counter, suddenly feeling guilty for interrupting their make up time. “Tar, I am so sorry. I came in this morning so buzzed from last night.” she said staring out the window, remembering how amazing her evening with Spike had been.
Tara was busy mixing batter and only responded with a quick comment over her shoulder. “Shaking the crypt were you?” she replied in an even voice.
Buffy‘s attention snapped to the blonde witch. Apparently Buffy wasn‘t the only one in a playful mood this morning. “Cute. Very colorful.” she said sarcastically.
Tara poured some batter on the griddle. “I’ve got more actually…, rattling the bones, waking the dead…” she said looking up and counting off on her fingers.
Buffy put her hands up in defeat. “Quite enough. Thank you.” Lowering her arms, she could feel the stupid glowing smirk make an unexpected appearance on her face. “It was a good night.” she said in a far away tone.
Tara pulled down a plate for the pancakes from the shelf. “You did something didn’t you? Something different last night.” The slayer gave the witch a coy smile, but said nothing. “Fine. Don’t share. I’ll grill Liam later and find out.” she said as she went about making the pancakes. “Are you going to set the table or sit there in afterglow all morning?” Tara asked.
“Look at me move.” she said as she started clearing off the table. “Oh, and you go right ahead and do that. You have to tell me how bad he squirms. Then we’ll discuss.” she said hoping the witch would play the game.
Tara smirked. She had so missed this. Just the silly everyday things like bantering over breakfast. This what made the Summer‘s house home. The little things. It’s not about apocalypses and Armageddon, it was about getting up every morning and enjoying every minute with the people you love. That’s what made this house special, more than anything else. The people that lived here. Her family.
“Deal.” she answered, as she put on some water to boil.
Buffy headed for the silverware. “So you and Will…kosher?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Tara shrugged. “Working on it. Last night and this morning were definitely good signs.” she said fondly thinking of waking up with Willow this morning.
Buffy‘s eyes went wide as she pointed an accusing finger at the wiccan. “Oh no, don’t you dare! I sense the dreaded BUT coming.” she sad with mock horror.
Tara giggled at the look on Buffy‘s face then calmed herself. “And you would be correct. BUT, we still have some things to talk about. Like what’s been happening to us and how we’re going to deal with everything.” Tara remembered Willow’s phone call. “It was kind of weird. Last night was almost like a time out. We just sort of put everything off to the side for a little while.” she explained grabbing the maple syrup from the cupboard.
Buffy quirked an eyebrow at the witch as she pulled milk and juice out of the fridge and put them on the table. “You’re talking in generalities. I don’t get it.” she said shaking her head. Relationship time-outs? ‘Is that the same thing as drunken sex?’ she wondered. Credit to the slayer, she didn’t actually say that out loud.
Tara shrugged her shoulders as she poured another pancake. “I kinda don’t either. I’ll get some specifics from Willow and get back to you.” she admitted. In truth, Tara had no idea where they stood. She wasn’t where she wanted them to be, but she was much happier here then where they had been.
Buffy walked over and put her hand on the witch‘s shoulder. “Had to leave me wondering, didn’t you?” she asked. The witch just shrugged rather non-committally. “Payback’s a bitch, right?” Buffy questioned. This time Tara let out a good chuckle. “I brought it on myself.” Buffy acknowledged.
Dawn entered the kitchen. “You brought what on yourself?” she asked. Then she noticed the blonde witch standing over the stove. “TARA!” she shouted, ran over and threw her arms around the witch and gave her a big squeeze.
Tara‘s smile broadened with the entrance of the teenager. She wrapped her arms around the smaller girl and gave her a soft kiss on the head. “Morning Dawn.”
She pulled back, but didn‘t release the older blonde. “When did you get here?” she asked, eyes wide with excitement.
Tara smiled and ran a hand over her cheek. “Late last night. You were asleep.” she said.
Dawn stepped over to where her sister was watching them. “Why didn’t you tell me?” she said, playfully smacking her sister on the arm for withholding information.
“Ow!” she said rubbing her arm. “I didn’t know until I walked in on them.” she whined and pointed at Tara then playfully pushed her sister. “Eat or you’re going to be late.” she said pointing towards the breakfast bar.
It was Giles turn to walk into the kitchen. “Walked in on whom?” he asked.
“Willow and Tara.” Buffy clarified, sitting down at the table.
Giles rolled his eyes as he heading for the stove to pour himself some tea. Tara pointed to the glass sitting next to the stove with the teabag already in it. He smiled graciously at the blonde witch. “Will I be embarrassed by this conversation or should I just take my tea and return to the living room now?” he asked pouring the hot water.
Tara felt the need to reassure the watcher. “Nothing happened. Buffy just wasn‘t expecting me to be in bed with Willow.” she said carrying a stack of pancakes over to the table.
Giles held up his hand in protest. ”That‘s enough sharing for one day.” Giles insisted carrying his tea over to the table.
Tara got a wicked gleam of mischief in her eye and looked at the older man they all considered their father. “Oh come on Mr. Giles, I haven’t even mentioned the threesome on the bed yet.” she moaned teasingly.
“Threesomes?” Willow questioned with a quirked eyebrow as she walked in the kitchen and headed straight for the blonde. She walked over and put and arm around the blonde’s waist.
“Me, you, and Buffy.” she explained, covering Willow’s hand with her own.
Willow pulled back slightly so she could look Tara in the eyes. “You had so better be referring to this morning or you have some serious explaining to do.” she warned.
Tara smiled and gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “Yes, only referring to this morning. Hungry?” she asked, holding up a plate of specially made Willow cakes. It was obvious they were hers, they were shaped like Willow trees after all.
Willow licked her lips in anticipation of tasting the wonders of her lover. Oh yeah, and the pancakes too. “Very.” she said almost a little on the seductive side. Taking her plate she went over to the table.
Buffy noted the redhead‘s tone and decided it was time to get some people out of the house. “Dawn, are you finished? We have to go.” she said looking over at the clock.
Giles finished his tea and stood up. “I’ll take her. I need to stop down at the Magic Box to see Anya.” he explained.
Willow was perplexed. “Anya won’t be there for another hour at least.” she explained.
Giles gave her a slightly annoyed look. “I’m sure there’s something I can do to pass the time in my own shop.” he said removing his glasses to clean them.
“Ooo, I’ll go with and we can train. It’ll help kill some time.” Buffy said jumping up. ‘And get me out of the house so that the witches can do whatever it is they need to do.’ she thought wryly.
Dawn made her way over to the witches and gave each one a quick peck on the cheek. “So see you guys later, right?” she said looking back and forth between Willow and Tara.
Tara smiled. “Yeah, probably.” she said nodding.
‘I hope so.’ Willow thought.
Tara heard Willow’s doubt in her head. She stepped next to Willow and put her hand on her shoulder and gave a reassuring squeeze. “See you after school.” Tara amended.
Dawn beamed on the way to school . All she wanted was for Willow and Tara to be happy, together, and home. It finally looked like they were headed in the right direction.
