Part 6
The next morning Willow was lying in her bed, perfectly still, holding her pillow over her head. She was afraid to move. When she awoke she had hoped it was all a bad dream, but the pounding in her head proved she wasn’t that lucky.
“Hey Will!” Buffy called as she walked into their room.
Willow groaned and pulled the pillow tighter around her head. “Too loud,” she barely whispered against the fabric. She could hear Buffy moving around the room and every footstep felt like a hammer tapping the inside of her head.
Buffy sat down on the bed next to her friend. She gently pulled the pillow off her head.
Willow winced as the sunlight seemed to shine straight through her eyelids. She slowly opened them, squinting at the slayer.
Buffy helped Willow to a sitting position then held out a couple ibuprofen pills to her best friend. “Take these.” She handed her a bottle of water. “Drink all of this.”
Willow took the pills and chased them with the water. She was completely dehydrated so she polished off the bottle in a matter of moments.
Buffy reached over and took a cup of coffee out of the cup holder. “No mocha for you this morning. Coffee. Black.”
Willow took the cup and stared into the dark liquid. Not raising her head she whispered, “She hates me. If she doesn’t she should. I don’t deserve someone as wonderful as her.”
Buffy reached out and tucked a stray hair behind the redhead’s ear. In a soothing voice she tried to comfort her friend. “She doesn’t hate you, Will. You made a mistake, that’s all. Do you remember…” not sure what to say she added, “anything?”
Willow nodded and a flush touched her cheeks as she remembered sitting next to Tara on the way home. The words the blonde goddess had spoken to her. Her body trembled a little just recalling the incident. She also remembered dancing with Tara, their bodies brushing together. She frowned as she remembered clumsily groping the blonde and she groaned. “I think I remember too well, actually.”
“I think, what she said to you, proves that she doesn’t hate you. I think she cares for you a great deal.”
Willow’s eyes opened wide. “You heard what she said?”
Buffy grinned sheepishly. “Um… slayer hearing… Yeah, I heard. Sorry.”
Willow slouched down and took a tentative sip at her coffee. “Do you really think she could forgive me for being such an ass?”
“I think you need to talk to Tara.”
Willow sighed then began to babble. “I was afraid of that. But, she might not talk to me. When should I go? She’ll kick me out. Is today too soon? Maybe I should take flowers.”
“Whoa there, Willow. She won’t kick you out, I’m sure she’ll talk to you. Flowers might not hurt, if that’s what she likes and I would suggest talking to her today or tomorrow. Don’t wait too long okay? You don’t want to give her the wrong impression.”
Willow put her resolve face on and sat up determinedly. “I’ll go today, no flowers though, I’m going to the Magic Box to pick out something special. She finished her lukewarm coffee in one big gulp. “Blah, that’s just not good. I’m going to take a shower and go talk to my blonde goddess.”
Buffy smiled at her friend. “You do that Will. I’ll see you later and I want details.”
Willow nodded distractedly as she got out of her bed and started gathering her clothes. As Buffy started to move toward the door, Willow stopped and walked to her best friend. She pulled her into a warm embrace. “Thanks, Buffy.”
Buffy returned the hug and gave Willow a quick kiss on her cheek. “Go get your girl.” She gave Willow a wink and walked out.
*****
Willow stood outside Tara’s dorm room with a tentative smile, mochas, and a bag of stuff from the Magic Box. She was trying to rehearse a good speech but it kept getting jumbled in her head. Deciding she better knock before the mochas got cold, she used the toe of her shoe to tap lightly on the door.
Tara heard a knock on the door and knew it was Willow. A small smile touched her lips as she opened the door.
“I didn’t know which you liked best or needed so I got all kinds of candles and few crystals in case, ya know if you ever wanted to see me again and we wanted to do spells or if you wanted to do spells by yourself or with someone else…” Willow felt a pang of jealousy at that thought but continued, “I’m really sorry for the way I acted last night and I never want to do anything to jeopardize our friendship but I didn’t think I could keep the thoughts to myself any longer and maybe I should just leave cause I could probably keep going for awhile…”
Tara reached out and squeezed the redhead’s arm, taking the mochas from her and tugged her gently into the room. She gave her friend a lopsided grin as she closed the door. She put the mochas down and motioned for her friend to have a seat on the bed.
Willow set the bag down on the floor and flopped down on her back on the bed. “That’s not really the impression I wanted to make. I was practicing a speech but I can’t remember a word of it.”
Tara sat down on the bed next to her friend. She took a sip of her mocha and smiled appreciatively. Finally she looked at Willow, blue eyes holding green. “You know, Willow, you could have just asked me.” Tara smiled down at the prone form on the bed as she spoke. Truth was she couldn’t be upset with the beautiful redhead.
Willow groaned, she could already see Buffy’s smug face and ‘I told you so’ grin. She opened her eyes and looked at Tara. “Yeah. I can picture it. ‘Hey Tara, I really like you and wondered if there was even the slightest possibility you liked me too and would you mind planting those delicious lips of yours on me?’ Yeah, that would have been sooo smooth.” Willow sighed dejectedly and closed her eyes. She was certain any feelings the blonde may have had, had been crushed by her behavior at the Bronze. She felt the bed shift and assumed the blonde was disgusted with her and taking the opportunity to move away. When she felt a warm body pressing her softly into the mattress, she was sure she had fallen asleep and was dreaming.
Tara settled on top of Willow. She linked their hands together and gently pushed Willow’s above her head, wrapping the redhead’s fingers around the bars in the headboard. The blonde brought her own hands down to brush some strands of hair off the redhead’s face. She moved her fingertips across cheekbones and the bridge of her nose, mesmerized by the tiny freckles sprinkled across beautiful skin. She continued to stroke the redhead’s face, feather-light caresses across her forehead, eyes, jaw line, ears and finally she brushed across soft lips.
Willow whispered, mostly to herself, “Please don’t let this be a dream.” She opened her eyes just a fraction and looked through her lashes. She saw her beautiful goddess above her and she opened her eyes completely, staring deeply into Tara’s sapphire gaze.
“I’m not a dream, Willow,” Tara whispered in response when emerald eyes finally met hers.
As Tara continued to stare and caresses her, a slow fire was building in Willow’s body. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. She closed it, moaning softly when Tara’s fingertips brushed across her neck. She looked into Tara’s eyes and whispered, “What are you thinking?”
Tara blushed slightly but a lopsided grin formed on her face. “I, uh, was just wondering what it would be like to kiss every freckle here,” she brushed her fingers across Willow’s right cheek, “and here,” she moved to the left cheek, “and…” she let her thought hang in the air, smiling flirtatiously at the redhead.
Tara wasn’t sure what had possessed her to settle on top of Willow’s body but she wasn’t ready to move. She looked into the depths of Willow’s eyes, seeking answers. Did the redhead really want to kiss her or had it just been the alcohol?
Willow’s hand’s tightened around the headboard spindles and she wondered if they would break from the pressure. ‘If they do we could always use them as stakes. Stop babbling in your head. I’m not babbling in my head it’s a valid point. You’re just trying to distract yourself from the puddle that’s forming between your legs.’ Willow moaned, partly to stop her internal argument but mostly because Tara had shifted, pushing her hips more fully into the redhead. She opened desire filled eyes and tried to speak. “You know you c-could, uh, find out, whenever, if you… would ever… anytime… would… be… okay um, with me.” She looked up at Tara, letting all her love for the blonde shine through. She would let Tara set their pace.
Seeming to find the answers she sought, Tara moved her hands, again brushing hair from Willow’s forehead and cheeks. She leaned forward and kissed the redhead’s cheek. She moved across her cheekbone, leaving soft butterfly kisses along the way. She kissed across the bridge of Willow’s nose, moving to the other cheek. Giving it the same slow attention as she had the other one.
Willow was trembling under the blonde’s soft caresses. She really hoped Tara didn’t intend kissing every freckle she had cause that would take awhile and she really wanted to feel the blonde’s lips against her own.
Tara forced herself to go slow. She was only going to kiss Willow, she wasn’t ready to go any further, but goddess, her skin was so sweet and soft. She couldn’t stop placing kisses, memorizing the location of freckles on skin. Finally her lips kissed the corner of Willow’s mouth. She brushed across them, placing a kiss on the other corner.
Willow gripped the headboard even tighter, her fingers beginning to go numb from the lack of blood flow. As Tara’s brushed across her lips, she wanted to capture them, taste them. Instead she tightened her grip further, hearing the wood groan in protest.
Finally Tara moved her lips above Willow’s. She opened her eyes and waited for the redhead to do the same. When green eyes stared intently at her, her lashes drifted shut and she lowered her head the scant distance between them and captured the redhead in a soft kiss.
Willow moaned into Tara’s mouth. She couldn’t hold back any longer and she moved her hands down, cupping the blonde’s bottom, pulling her closer. She returned Tara’s sweet kiss, letting her continue to set the pace, as agonizingly slow as it was.
Tara opened her mouth and gently caught Willow’s lower lip between her own. She sucked it gently into her mouth, enjoying the taste and texture. She breathed the redhead’s scent into her nostrils. She wanted to fill all her senses with Willow until the beautiful redhead was her air, her sustenance, her everything. She moved to Willow’s top lip and paid it the same attention she had bestowed upon the bottom one. She groaned as Willow squeezed her bum, pulling their bodies together, seeming to mold them to one another.
They began opening and closing their mouths against each other until tips of tongues touched together. Tara moved her tongue around the redhead’s, circling and teasing before thrusting fully into Willow’s mouth.
Willow hungrily accepted Tara into her mouth. She dueled with the blonde’s tongue, chasing it in circles. Her hips began moving on their own, matching the pace of their clashing tongues. Her hands on Tara’s bottom moved their bodies in the same pattern. As Tara’s tongue moved out of her mouth, Willow’s quickly followed, continuing the contest in the blonde’s mouth.
As Willow fought for dominance in the kiss, Tara pulled back slightly and wrapped her mouth around the redhead’s tongue, sucking it gently then harder as she heard the redhead’s moans and excited sounds.
Willow was elated to let the blonde have her way with her tongue for a time. Eventually she withdrew, happy when Tara’s tongue followed into her mouth. There was no more fighting for dominance, just circling caresses against each other.
They began slowing their kiss down. Both feeling it was too soon to let it go any further, but each reluctant to completely break contact. Their mouths once again opened and closed against each other, before becoming small, lingering kisses; lips against lips as their breathing slowed back down.
Tara pulled back and looked into emerald eyes, her lopsided grin on her face as she stared down at the beautiful redhead. She whispered huskily, “Was it worth waiting for?”
“Mmmm. Definitely.” More seriously Willow began, “I’m really sorry for last-” Her words were cut off as Tara’s lips descended on her once again, a brief hard kiss.
“It was a mistake and it’s in the past. I think we should concentrate on moving forward, together.” She whispered her declaration.
Willow looked up at the woman she knew she loved. The words were there, threatening to come bubbling out of her mouth. She forced them down, not ready to scare her away. Instead she settled on, “Tara, I want to be with you. I mean I want to ask, if you’d like to be my girlfriend?” She finished off with a shy smile, looking deep into sapphire eyes, begging silently with her eyes.
Tara’s smile could have lit up the entire room. “I’d l-love to be your girlfriend.”
Willow’s face threatened to shatter from the intensity of her smile. “Well, my girlfriend, I would like to take you to dinner, if that’s okay?” She finished on a hopeful note.
“I’d l-like that a lot.” Tara didn’t move for a few minutes just lay on top of Willow still staring at her. Finally she chuckled and rolled onto her side.
Willow followed, lying on her side facing the blonde, her arms still around her girlfriend’s waist. “So, my girlfriend, what would you like for dinner?”
Tara smirked. “Well, my g-girlfriend,” her eyes twinkled as she used Willow’s term, “I think I would l-like wherever you want to go. Or w-we could order in, if you w-want.”
“I think I would like to take my girlfriend to that little Italian place downtown for a proper meal. It’s still early so we should miss the crowd and the, you know, creatures that go bump in the night.” She gave Tara a little wink and a quick peck on the nose.
Tara sighed and pulled her girlfriend into a tight embrace before letting go. They stood up and clasped hands, not wanting to lose contact with each other completely.
They left the dorm room and walked hand in hand, stealing shy glances and soft smiles with each other. They lapsed into light conversation as they headed towards the small restaurant. Each basked in the afterglow of their afternoon kisses and new status as girlfriends.
