Cordelia's such a bitch! How can no one else see it? I hope her team gets their asses handed to them in the game, but I'm afraid she's working on something bigger and more evil (but that will hopefully had more repercussions for her...)

HI!! Hopefully I get this fb submitted before you're next update!

“Because you live here,” Cordelia answered smoothly. “No one knows these machines like you do and no one can do a better job!”

Carly managed a small, tight smile. “Thanks. I’ve always dreamed of earning respect as a laundress. So that ‘no’ is alive and well. Find yourself another washerwoman, Cordelia!”

“I’ll give you twenty dollars!”

OK, what's this bitch up to? Laundry pimp?

Willow was frowning, “This is as wrong as a four sided triangle!
Only Willow... :rofl

The kids we're great and as amusing as ever..."milk spraying spit monster!"

“Talking to Cordelia is like walking into a whirling buzz saw.”
Never have truer words been spoken.

She turned to Tara, “So w-w-what’s wrong with w-w-winning, Tara? Wait, I forgot. You’re too much of a loser to know anything about it!”
Cordy is such a C%#T!!! :gnome :fit :gnome :fit :gnome :fit

Willow swallowed, then she slid around behind Tara and lifted the heavy curtain of golden hair. She blew softly on Tara’s neck while Tara shivered delightedly. Then Willow leaned in, tasting the salty goodness of Tara’s neck and trailing kisses up Tara’s jaw line until she was giving love nips to Tara’s left earlobe.

Tara sighed, relaxing against Willow and feeling the smaller girl’s nipples harden and press against her back. Then Willow’s arms slid around Tara’s waist and her hands slipped under Tara’s shirt and trailed up Tara’s belly to cup the full softness of her breasts.
Wow...simply beautiful! Bravo!! :applause :applause

“W-w-willow and T-t-Tara
And the team you call ‘The Reds’!
We’re gonna beat ya and scare ya
Till you wish that you were dead!”

If there's one thing I love about girls softball, especially fast pitch, it's the cheers. This was definitely not a likable cheer and far beyond the realm of sportsmanship! They need to have their asses kicked! :smash :smash :smash :smash :smash

Can't wait for the game to commence!

Totally have been MIA on this story too. So sorry. I don't even know how many updates I've missed but I'm just going to say that you're doing an excellent job. Your characters are so believable and I love it. Willow and Tara are so effing cute together. It just leaves me with a smile every time I read. But Cordelia... what a bitch. I know I've said that before but its so true. Can't wait for the next update and to see how the game plays out.
Anya: I don't like the sound of this. They don't sound very ex-demon compatible.
Tara: Are you sure they're English? I thought English people were, um, gentler than uh... normal people.

Zampsa19752001:
:bounce Hey, Dibster! :bounce

Yay for great update-y goodness... I hope Carly misplaces or shrinks Smurf Mutt's clothes in her laundry trip... Can't wait for Resistance strike on Smurf Mutt's team...

Yes, there is Resistance, but Cordelia like all great villains brings it all on herself!

I hope Finchmeister finds out that Smurf Mutt really flunked the attitude test and kicks her out...

Good catch on the attitude test – more to come on Cordelia’s little failures of character!

Clare AKA Wayland:
Clare, glad the ‘Secrets and Lies’ chapter touched you. Your writing is really opening me up to how powerful description can be. You are an excellent writer and any comments/criticisms/suggestions will be taken in the right spirit either by post or PM.

Laragh:
Hmm, color me suspicious. What is Cordelia up to?? A ploy to make sure Carly's not at the game??

Got it in one! I salaam to you, Great One!!! :bow :bow :bow

I love their alone time together. How much their silence speaks volumes, it's really moving.

Thank you. It means a lot, coming from you. They are young, passionate, moody, and in love in a world that doesn’t love them at least not ‘officially’. Of course that breeds some melancholy.

About the kids, they could/would be much nicer but they are strongly influenced by the role models that they’re exposed to and we have Bitch C and Harmony the Clueless Wonder. Most 7 year olds are NOT that nasty but then again, Lord of the Flies anyone? Granted Jack and company are older, but the point stands.

So here’s the game – thanks for reading and for your wonderful feedback! :flower

Kate AKA BeMyDeputy:
Kate, as always, thanks for the encouragement and constructive criticism! Keep it coming and keep on writing!

SMGOVAN:
Ringers!! Cordelia has a team full of professional international midgets (little people)!! Pleeeease let one of the Reds accidently (ha) throw there bat and knock Cordelia's front teeth right out of her fucking mouth!! :devil

Hold that thought and STAY TUNED!!! You, yes YOU, have nailed it again! As to your fantasy about Cordelia, not this time . . .

Rick AKA willowtaralover:
Late? Forget about it! Your feedback is always worth waiting for! So I’ll do my best to tell you what you want to know without spilling the whole thing! Not easy, with you on the case!

Responding to Tara’s feelings of unworthiness:
And who’s been conditioning Tara to think like that??? I seem to recall Tree telling Tara she had been treated in a similar manner so I’m guessing family.

Right. Tara has gone through a great deal of inner damage, it is a tribute to her own strength, her mother’s support, and Willow’s love that she is so happy now.

The adventure in the canyon was brilliant, a really cool scene with Tara fending off the rattler while Faith got the horses. I wonder how it would have been with the girls from the cabin.

Funny. I saw the narrow ledge up to the cave so clearly, knew that Tara wouldn’t take the kids riding up there and eliminated the possibility from my mind. You ask good questions – stay tuned.

Breakfast was the usual adventure. Mouse spilled her oatmeal, but Veronica took her right back to the kitchen and cleaned her up with a sponge provided by Faith.

Why do I get the feeling that Mouse just really dislikes oatmeal? Has anyone tried her with Lucky Charms or Fruit Loops?

Bravo and *YOINK* This idea has officially been stolen and will be used in the next 1 – 3 posts, promise! And THANKS! :clap :applause :clap

What Veronica lacks in technique she makes up for in fury. The girl has anger issues and the kids who have gone toe to toe with her respect her prowess. Tara’s struggle is to teach her alternatives.

So Willow wants to name Tara’s er…ahem…Dolly does she. Well I think Tara should have the same opportunity to name Willow’s…ahem. How about Trixie or Miss Kitty Fantastico, they sound like good names lol.

:lmao :rofl :lmao I’m thinking . . . stay tuned!

Now why do I have the feeling this is some kind of conspiracy between SuperBitch, Cheese, Candelabra and Letty.

I refuse to answer on the grounds that . . . well, you’ll see! Good catch – AGAIN!

Thank you for appreciating their scenes together and the combination of poignant and passionate. Young love is all of that, not to mention awkward and funny, too.

As to some questions, Billie is reminding Veronica to bring money to the game and be ready to pay up when Veronica loses.

Finch? She’s sleeping in from patrolling the bathrooms lol!

Yes, if they win they would have to play a tie-breaker for the championship, it’s best two out of three.

Logic was gone, Willow stepped up to Cordelia and glared into the taller girl’s eyes. “It’s all my money for the month, but you’ve got a bet!”

Two words HOLY SHIT. Willow what are you thinking making a bet with a canine like Cordelia. The Reds had better win this match or I’m gonna be really upset and sulk for like ages. And Mouse has got to get to at least one base, though two would be better.

Stay tuned, all will be revealed. And I’m cringing a bit because, well, you’ll see. *sorry*

Maggie AKA Leonhart17:
Cordelia's such a bitch! How can no one else see it? I hope her team gets their asses handed to them in the game, but I'm afraid she's working on something bigger and more evil (but that will hopefully had more repercussions for her...)

Great question! Mostly it’s a mix of self-confidence, cleverness, and Mrs. Finch’s willingness to shut her eyes to a lot of stuff going on to get her hands on some money. The game is probably not exactly what you expect, but hopefully a few good moments. GLAD to see you writing! :pinky :party :pinky
I am nearly crazy with fatigue after two weeks of travel but fb is coming!

Shelby AKA Finey McFine:
First, Cordelia does have something in mind on the laundry biz!

Willow was frowning, “This is as wrong as a four sided triangle!
Only Willow... :rofl

The kids we're great and as amusing as ever..."milk spraying spit monster!"

Glad you approve! More geeky Willow to come in later posts, count on it!

Thanks for calling the love scene ‘beautiful’! One of the best things about writing a fic (and YOU know it’s true!) is getting to imagine them together – and they are beautiful!

As to the cheer being utterly nasty, you’re absolutely right! Cordelia has her own obvious reason for trying to psych them out from the beginning, but she doesn’t stop there . . .

beautiful_love:
I'm just going to say that you're doing an excellent job. Your characters are so believable and I love it. Willow and Tara are so effing cute together. It just leaves me with a smile every time I read. But Cordelia... what a bitch. I know I've said that before but its so true. Can't wait for the next update and to see how the game plays out.

First, thanks! :blush It isn’t always easy projecting them back to before the show, but it’s fun! In this version, for instance, Willow is not yet afraid of tadpoles. Your story is great to read and yes, I’ll PM you. I’ve visited colleges for two weeks and am pretty worn out! Apologies for late post! Will catch up on fb soon!

THE STORY WILL FOLLOW (ALMOST) IMMEDIATELY!

Lawanna looked more closely, too still for a seven year old softball game at camp! Then she shook off the thought, looked briefly at the Reds’ line-up card and focused.

“Play ball!”

Part 32: The Game

Willow and Tara heard ‘play ball’ and flashed each other an identical look of alarm as they realized that they had never received any instructions about how to coach a team through an actual game.

Towanda looked up at Willow, “What’s wrong?”

“Uh, Tara and I are all with the coaching enthusiasm, but not having a muchness on the coaching experience.”

“Huh?” Debbie asked.

Towanda turned to Deb. “They don’t know how to coach.”

Tara smiled, “W-we could use your help.”

Towanda, Connie, Lisa, and Kate, the experienced softball players, were excited and babbled advice with a speed that did credit to Willow’s example.

Connie concluded. “And the line up card is a big deal. We have to bat in line like the card says or we can get in trouble.”

Towanda pointed to third base. “Oh yeah, one coach is usually there when we’re batting.” She paused, “There are only two of you, so maybe go there when you need to and come here, too or let one of us coach third.”

Connie said quickly, “And don’t curse or slug the umpire.”

Willow and Tara laughed in spite of themselves.

“Hey, I’m serious! We lost our game when our coach cursed out the umpire and belted him.”

Tara grinned, “W-we’ll try to avoid that.”

Lisa spoke quickly. “I have to bat now, but one of you should be at first base to tell us to keep running or stop.” She demonstrated a straight-armed wind-mill motion. “That means go!”

Tara smiled, “I can do that.” She jogged over to first base, turning to wave at Lisa. “See you soon!”

Willow smiled and patted Lisa on the shoulder. “Okay, you’re first up. Take a deep breath and watch the ball.”

Lisa smiled and looked back at Willow and was still smiling when she finished her practice swings and stepped into the batter’s box.

Tizzie Stilton glared, holding the ball tightly in her small, tense hand.

Lisa’s smile faltered, but she kept her gaze steady as she met Tizzie’s angry eyes.

Tizzie threw her first pitch and Lisa let it pass.

“Strike.”

Lisa swallowed and took a deep breath, unsettled by the other girl’s hostility. She stepped out of the batter’s box, saw Willow’s reassuring wave then stepped back in and settled into her stance.

“Ball.”

Lisa felt a tiny small growing on her face, as Tillie flushed angrily.

The next pitch had less of an arc. Lisa connected and sent a hopping grounder between first and second base. She rounded first, saw Tara’s wildly wind milling arms and sprinted to second, barely making it ahead of the outfielder’s throw.

The Reds erupted into cheers and Debbie stepped up to bat next.

Debbie was over-eager, swinging and missing at three straight pitches to a chorus of jeering laughter from the Queens. She walked away from the plate, getting a one-armed hug from Willow.

Kate walked slowly up to the plate remembering Hallie’s tips about focusing as she finished her practice swings and stepped into the batter’s box.

Tizzie smirked, as if sensing her hesitation and Kate felt herself blush as the first pitch arched over the plate.

“Strike one.”

Kate flexed her fingers, took a fresh grip on the bat and waited. She took two balls before hitting an easy grounder straight to Tizzie who bobbled the catch for an instant but was able to grab the ball and lob it over to Billie.

Hallie called, “Out on first.”

Billie smirked, careful to keep her voice low so that Tara and the two umpires could not hear, “Out, loser! Get off my base!”

Kate turned and walked slowly back to the team, with Tara walking her partway back and throwing an arm across her shoulders. Meanwhile Lisa grinned from third base and Willow trotted over to coach her.

Devola pranced into place then jumped back out of the batter’s box. She straightened her helmet, re-tied her pony tail, and re-tied both shoes before stepping into the batter’s box. She was bouncing with excitement. “I feel hitterish! Watch out, moon! This ball is going into orbit!” She took a bizarre batting stance that forced her own team-mates to stifle their laughter then began wiggling her butt, obviously believing that she looked like a big league batter.

Tizzie stared at Devola’s gyrations and whined, “Make her stop!”

Devola grinned at Tizzie. “Don’t worry, I promised my coach I wouldn’t send anyone else to the hospital!”

Willow’s eyes widened and Devola’s team-mates stared at each other, knowing that last week’s game was the only game she had ever played in her life.

Tizzie looked uncertain for a moment and Devola let out her version of a cowboy yell. Tizzie flinched and hesitated then sent her first pitch over Devola’s head.

“Ball.”

Devola yelled for joy, stepped out of the batter’s box to flex her arms and began wiggling her arms along with her butt.

Tizzie stared and called out to Lawanna. “I said, ’Make her stop’!”

Lawanna saw the humor of the situation, but as always, was determined to follow the rules. “Play ball,” was all she said.

Tizzie threw swiftly and the ball hit one of Devola’s swinging arms.

“Take your base.”

Tizzie yelled, “That’s not fair! She made me hit her!”

Lawanna stared back and Tizzie subsided. Then she turned to Devola, “I said ‘take your base’.”

Devola let loose with another cowboy yell, blew Tizzie a kiss and skipped to her base to greet Billie, “Thanks for inviting me over!” she said sweetly.

Billie started to answer but Devola cut her off, “No time to talk, I won’t be here that long!” She winked at Tara who winked back. Then they both turned to watch Towanda who was striding to the plate.

Tizzie shook off her confusion and glared at Towanda who glared right back and settled into her stance. She took two balls and two strikes before connecting solidly and lofting one into the hole between left field and center field. She ran the bases, following Lisa and Devola in for a team hug, jump, and scream-fest for three runs.

Veronica sighed and walked heavily to the batter’s box, feeling her cousin’s intense stare. She stood, took two balls then swung weakly at three straight pitches and was called out.

Devola stayed cheerful. “Come on you guys! We did better this inning than we did in the whole game before!”

There was a team hug and the Reds took the field, smiling and ready to go all out.

They were allowed to throw the ball around for a few minutes, then Lawanna called, “Play Ball” and the extra balls were thrown in.

Tizzie Stilton led off for the Queens, with her trademark glare at Connie on the pitcher’s mound.

Connie blinked nervously then walked Tizzie in five pitches.

Billie was next and sauntered into the batter’s box, eyeballing Connie with scorn.

Connie threw two balls and one strike then Billie connected and hit a line drive that ripped right past Connie’s shoulder and past Debbie in center field.

The Queens were screaming when Tizzie crossed home plate, followed quickly by the long-legged Billie who could run like a deer.

Meanwhile Debbie threw the ball half way to second base and Towanda trotted forward to get it and relayed it in to Connie.

Willow was flushed, jumping up and down. “That’s okay! That’s okay! Tighten it up!”

“W-we can do it!” Tara pumped her fist in the air.

Delise, a short girl with a cheerful grin was up next. She immediately hit a hopping jack rabbit of ball straight down the first base line where Lisa snagged it and stepped on the base. The Reds erupted into cheers and Devola danced in celebration until Lawanna got the game moving again.

Maureen or Mo was walked on five pitches.

Connie’s shoulders slumped and she wiped her forehead nervously.

Letty Ballard had short brown hair in a pixie cut. She was smiling, swinging the bat comfortably and getting into her stance. Letty hit the first pitch, a wicked little grass cutter that raced between first and second base. Both Mouse and Debbie ran after the ball while Letty followed Mo across home plate to a chorus of joyful shrieks from her sister Queens.

Hannah stepped up and swung her bat self-consciously. She was nervous, getting a full count before popping up into the infield where Devola and Kate both raced for the ball then came to a dead stop and stood there as it plopped between them. Kate caught it on the bounce and threw it to Lisa.

Hallie made the call, “Safe on first!”

Tammy Pam Carter was next, anxiously eyeing her recently polished nails as she got a careful grip on the bat. Connie threw the first pitch.

“Strike one.”

The next was released a little late and had a high arc.

“Ball one.”

The next pitch bounced just before the plate.

“Ball two.”

Tammy Pam connected on the third pitch which rolled slowly forward and stopped between home plate and the pitcher’s mound. Bettina scurried forward to grab it and threw it to first a few feet away from the base. Lisa stepped off to make the catch and raced back just as Tammy Pam crossed the plate.

Hallie called it, “Safe at first, tie goes to the runner.”

Celia wore glasses and had flyaway mousy brown hair. She slouched up to the plate and smiled at Connie in a friendly way and gestured to indicate where she wanted the ball.

Connie pitched the ball straight across for a strike and Celia giggled.

“Oooops! I should’ve gone for that one!”

Connie pitched two straight balls and Celia’s brow furrowed in concentration.

The next pitch was high; Celia swung and tipped it back for a foul ball. The next three hits went foul, until Celia connected on a hopping grounder between second and shortstop, Veronica raced in and snagged the ball and side-armed it to Towanda on second who stamped the bag.

“Out on second!” Hallie called and the Reds cheered Veronica and Towanda as Tammy Pam left the field, leaving runners on first and third.

Towanda called out, “Force on first and second base! Come on, you guys! Only one more out!”

Kelly Leblonski walked heavily to the plate and bared her teeth at Connie. She took a high ball, tightened her grip on the bat, and slammed a shot over Debbie’s head in center field. She ran the bases slowly behind Celia for three more runs.

Willow and Tara exchanged glances and called time-out. They walked to the mound to talk with Connie, whose shoulders were slumped. Tara slid an arm around the girl’s shoulders and Willow encouraged her. She nodded and seemed relieved, then Towanda was called over and the two girls traded places with Towanda pitching and Connie taking over second base.

Tizzie was up again, she buffed her painted nails against her shirt then sauntered up to the plate. She shot Towanda a glance of contempt and took her stance.

Towanda breathed deeply. “Okay guys, force on first.” Then she released the ball. The pitch was high and outside.

“Ball one.”

Towanda swallowed, loosened her shoulders and caught the returned ball from Bettina. She locked eyes with Tizzie and sent a low pitch straight across the plate. Tizzie swung down, creating a high hopper. Towanda raced off the mound only to see the ball take a third hop straight over her head. She backpedalled frantically and snagged the ball on the third hop and fired it to first. Lisa caught the ball cleanly and stamped the base but Tizzie had made it.

Tizzie glared at Lisa who did her best to play past the other girl’s hostility and focus on Billie who was up next.

Lawanna called out, “Fifteen minutes, end of the inning! Queens, warm-up and take the field!”

Willow helped Mouse put on the big batting helmet. “It’s your turn to bat, Mouse.”

Mouse nodded and the helmet slid forward. Willow tightened the chin strap and Mouse walked to home plate while Lawanna walked over to dig her water bottle out of her backpack before summoning Willow and Tara in for a talk.

Kelly saw that Lawanna was gone and leaned in to Mouse, “Cry baby, loser!”

Mouse drew herself up and looked back at Kelly. “I am not a cry baby,” she said with dignity.

Kelly leaned forward to hiss, “You will be when we get you and get your team! Loser baby! Loser baby! You’re gonna strike out every time.” She smiled as she watched the little girl’s chin quiver. Then Mouse ran back to Veronica while Kelly smiled and gave Tizzie and Billie a thumbs-up.

Meanwhile, Lawanna was talking with Tara and Willow. “She’s very small and she doesn’t seem experienced with softball. I’m worried about her getting hurt.”

Willow nodded, “It means a lot to her to be on the team.”

Tara agreed, “She says she w-wants to play.”

Lawanna nodded understandingly. “She won’t get hurt, slow pitches aren’t fast enough to cause pain but she could get injured base running or hit while fielding.”

Tara lowered her voice, “Mouse has never h-hit the ball even in practice and we keep her against the fence for fielding. W-we always do that, no matter who is up.”

Lawanna looked at them both. “You know that leaves a big hole in your defense?”

Willow nodded again. “We know, but she really wants to play and not too many kids hit to right field.”

Lawanna nodded quickly. “Okay, you’re taking precautions.” She stepped back in position behind Kelly, “Play ball!”

Mouse turned to Veronica, “Is it my turn?”

Veronica gave her little friend a quick hug, “Yeah. Good luck, Mouse!”

Mouse took a last look at her best friend, then turned and made herself get ready to hit. She could feel Kelly’s eyes on her back and it made her feel funny. She hates me. Mouse hunched her shoulders and the bat started falling as the pitch came.

“Strike one.”

The Queens cheered Tizzie on as the she threw again.

Mouse swung wildly.

“Strike two.”

Mouse took a big breath and faced Tizzie’s angry glare. Please please please please please. She swung after the ball had already passed.

“Strike three.”

Mouse was confused, looking all around her and The Queens laughed loudly as the little girl asked, “Is it still my turn?”

Lawanna put a hand on Mouse’s shoulder and her voice was gentle. “That was a big swing. You can go wait with Willow now.”

Mouse tried to smile but couldn’t quite make it. She walked to Willow and hugged her around the legs. Willow hugged her back and Mouse felt a little better. Willow squatted down and smiled at her, “You did great, Mouse.”

“But I striked out.”

“You stood up and did your best and you didn’t throw the bat. Lawanna said that was very important, remember?”

Mouse smiled. “I ‘member.”

“I’m proud of you.” She hugged Mouse again and watched the little girl’s face brighten.

“I didn’t throw the bat!” Mouse said proudly and she hugged Willow back and smiled again.

Connie stepped to the plate and favored Tizzie with a bored glance. She stepped out of the batter’s box to yawn and stretch then stepped back in to see Tizzie’s face flush with anger.

Tizzie’s first pitch bounced on the ground before the plate and her second was way outside for two balls, no strikes.

Connie stepped out of the batter’s box to yawn and stretch a second time and she saw Tizzie’s hand clench hard around the ball.

The next pitch was low for a ball.

Connie swung at the next one for a strike and the last pitch was inside enough for Connie to jump back.

“Take your base.”

Connie stretched yet again as she smirked and strolled to the base.

Tara smiled, “Good eye, Connie! W-way to watch!” She gave Connie a hug and Cordelia shouted, “She’s hugging her! Tara stepped into the field and hugged a player! That’s interference!” She began flipping through the manual as Tara blushed and stepped back from the baseline.

Hallie grinned, “You do need to keep off the field, Tara.”

Tara nodded and Cordelia flashed a triumphant grin while jabbing at a section of the manual that evidently proved her right.

Bettina crowded the plate, returning Tizzie’s furious glare with interest. Tizzie threw well and Bettina swung viciously but missed the first two pitches. She then hit a foul ball that bounced off the edge of Kelly’s mitt and rolled into fair territory. Bettina’s jaw dropped, she let go of the bat, and began running for first while Kelly chased the still rolling ball, got a partial grip and flung it over Billie’s head. Billie whirled around to see their right fielder grab the ball and throw it to her, but Bettina was already on base. Tara signed, “I love you” and Bettina smiled back and got ready to run.

Lisa’s eyes were narrowed as she faced Tizzie. Two straight balls then a perfect pitch slid in and Lisa slammed it just past third base. Connie sprinted for third, saw the ball hurtling toward Delise and hook slid in.

“Safe!”

By the time the dust cleared, Lisa was on first, Bettina was on second and Connie was perched on third like a bird ready to fly.

Lisa yelled, “Hey, Debbie! Hit us home!”

Debbie grinned, but struck out again on three straight pitches.

Then Kate walked slowly up to the plate. She tensed, taking two balls and one strike before popping up. Billie called the ball and caught it, ending the inning with no runs scored.

“Hey, w-we loaded the bases! Y-you did great!”

Cordelia smiled and called out, “Yeah, Reds! Like Tara said, Y-y-you did greaaaat!”

The Reds squared their shoulders and walked back out into the field to get ready.

**************************

Carly carefully sorted Cordelia’s laundry into a regular dry cycle load and a permanent press load, then wiped the sweat from her face and started the dryers. She sighed. She had been enjoying the softball games with her Dad ever since she could remember and she hated missing the first game of their camp season, especially since Willow and Tara had become good friends. Then she noticed Dee Hoffryn walking around, peering under bushes and behind trash cans.

“What are you looking for, Dee?”

Dee straightened quickly. “Rocky. Everybody is at the game, so I thought that he might be easier to find. I miss him.”

Carly nodded understandingly. “Yeah, he was a great snake.”

Dee smiled, glad to find another girl who appreciated her favorite pet. “I wasn’t going to keep him again, just visit a little.” Dee sighed again, “But I can’t find him anywhere!”

“Yeah, he’s probably lit a rag for home.”

Dee stared at her quizzically and Carly laughed, “Hey, I lived with my Dad all my life, you know. Some of his country talk was bound to rub off on me!”

“Yeah, you’ve let a few fly over the years.” Dee grinned, Carly had been her counselor for three of her six years at camp. Then she noticed Carly standing close to the dryers. “Why are you missing the game to do laundry?”

“Because Cordelia offered me forty dollars to wash her laundry and get it done right now.”

Dee’s eyes got big with excitement. “Forty dollars!”

“Yeah. But now I wish I was watching the game. My Dad is probably looking for me, wondering where I got off to.”

Dee’s voice was eager, “Hey, I could finish it for you! I’ll do it all for ten bucks.”

Carly was tempted. “No. I mean, yes, you can do it for me but if you iron, fold, and deliver it to Cordelia’s cabin then you should get half.”

Dee grinned delightedly and Carly was happy to hand over Cordelia’s twenty dollars, wave good-bye, and head out to the ball field.

*************************************************

Carly walked up then grinned and waved at her two friends. “How’s it going?”

Willow’s eyes were riveted to the game. “Tense. If this keeps up, they’re about one inning away from slaughter-balling us. The score is eight to three and the bases are loaded!”

Carly looked over the field and saw Letty Ballard stepping up to the plate.

Then Cordelia noticed Carly, called time out and hurried over. “What are you doing here? I paid you to do a job for me!”

Carly stared at her. “It’s getting done. I separated your clothes, loaded them in and put in the detergent myself. All they need now is to be ironed and folded.”

“Carly, you made a deal to do it all for me by before dinner. Leave right now or you’re not getting the rest of the money!”

“It’ll be done and waiting in your cabin.” Carly stared suspiciously at Cordelia, “What’s your problem?”

Cordelia’s lips thinned. “Nothing.” She glared at Carly, insolently looking her up and down, “Absolutely nothing.”

“Fine.” Carly’s eyes flashed angrily, “Then I’ll just watch the game!” She strode over to stand by Willow and Tara while Cordelia let Lawanna know that they were ready to play.

Letty had been unconcerned, simply taking a bunch of practice swings off to the side. At Lawanna’s call, she stepped up to the plate.

Willow looked at the little girl. She sure got tan in the last three days, every inch of her is brown. Willow stared harder as Letty relaxed into her stance with her feet apart, bat cocked, and elbows out. Something is . . . not right. She stared harder at the little girl then shrugged and turned to shout encouragement at her pitcher.

Towanda remembered Letty as a power hitter and threw her a low ball in hopes of getting an easy grounder, but Letty didn’t swing.

“Ball one.”

Towanda loosened her shoulders again and zeroed in on Bettina’s upraised mitt.

“Strike one.” Letty had watched it go by.

Towanda released the ball late, feeling it spin off her fingers and arc high, seeming to hang there a moment. Then Letty whipped her bat around and the ball rocketed into the outfield, landing only 30 feet in front of the centerfield fence. Debbie raced back to grab it and threw badly, the ball landing halfway between her and second base. Connie ran back to pick up the ball, then turned and burned it into home. Bettina ran up and snagged it on the bounce and turned just as Letty came pounding down the baseline. Bettina ran back and began to stoop for the tag while Letty did a diving slide just under Bettina’s hand. When the dust cleared Letty hand her fingers on the bag.

“Safe!”

The Queens jumped up and down, mobbing Letty and the other runners, screaming with joy at their 12 run score and no outs.

Carly was concerned about Letty’s elbow getting infected. She waited till the mob thinned and approached Letty, who was watching the game. “Letty, let’s check that elbow of yours. You might’ve pulled the scab off on that slide!” Carly bent down to examine Letty’s elbow, there was no scab of any kind and no trace of injury.

Carly stared at the little girl’s tanned and flushed face.

“Lulu Ballard?” She said incredulously, “What are you doing here?”

The girl, formerly known as Letty, avoided Carly’s eyes as Cordelia came hurrying over. “Carly! Nosy much? You have no right to interfere with this game and harass Letty!”

Carly was still confused, “But she isn’t Letty Ballard, she’s Lulu, Letty’s twin sister. But she’s not supposed to be at camp until week three!”

Lawanna walked over. “Carly, you’re interfering.” Lawanna stopped dead and stared at Carly, “What did you say?”

“That’s right!” Cordelia said eagerly, “You heard Lawanna! You’re interfering! So shut up and get that laundry done!”

“I said,” Carly replied, “That this girl isn’t Letty Ballard. They’re twins, their parents are local folks who can’t afford to send both girls to camp so Mrs. Finch made a deal to let Letty come for the first two weeks and Lulu for the second two weeks. She told Cordelia and I about it on the first day of camp.”

Lawanna bent down to look the little girl in the eyes. “What’s your name?”

The little girl raised her eyes to Lawanna’s, “Louisa Ballard, but everybody calls me Lulu.”

Lawanna frowned, “Why are you here today?”

Lulu pointed reluctantly to Cordelia and Harmony. “Letty told them that I play lots better so they told Letty to go home with my Mom after dinner and I put on her clothes and came back.”

Lawanna asked softly, “Who else knew about this?”

Lulu pointed silently to Tizzie, Billie, Kelly and Maureen.

“Okay, go sit down over there.” Lawanna called, “Time out! Queens, stay right where you are in your positions while I talk to a few of you!” Lawanna then talked briefly with Tizzie, Kelly, Billie, and Mo. A moment later Lawanna called all the players in and explained. “The rules are clear about using ringers or non-designated players. Letty was on the line up card, but Lulu played instead.” Lawanna’s voice was regretful. “By cheating, you lose the game.”

Cordelia and Harmony’s voices rose to unpleasant sounding shrieks of anger and disappointment, but Lawanna held firm. “It’s in the manual,” she said impatiently.

“Prove it!” Cordelia demanded.

Lawanna looked angrily at Cordelia. “I’m the program leader for sports and I’ve worked here for three years! I know that it’s in the manual.” She began impatiently flipping pages, then Willow opened her own manual and pointed to the page. Lawanna read it, nodded quickly, and thrust the manual into Cordelia’s hands. “Read it for yourself, then!”

Cordelia shot Willow a furious glance, read the page, and shoved the manual hard into Willow’s hands.

The Reds, meanwhile, stood for a moment trying to take in that they had somehow won the game. Then Devola jumped up and cheered, “We beat the cheats! We beat the cheats,” until Tara clapped a hand over her mouth and pulled the whole team aside.

Towanda looked angrily at Tara. “Why did you shut Dev up? She’s right! They’re cheaters and they deserved to lose!”

More than a couple of heads nodded agreement and Tara took a deep breath before meeting their eyes. “Y-you’re right. Some of them did cheat, but not all of them. How would it feel to come out and play your best and think you’re w-winning and then have some cheaters ruin the game for you? Her voice softened, “H-how would it feel to be called a cheater when you didn’t?”

Devola looked up. “Okay, okay! I got it!” She grinned to show that there were no hard feelings. “Hey, we’re lucky they did cheat, they were pounding us!”

Tara and Willow reached out and squeezed as many of their girls as their arms could reach. “W-we’re so proud of you! Y-you all played your best and you w-worked together like a real team!”

Willow grinned, her arm snug around Tara’s waist. “What she said!” Then everybody hugged, poked, and giggled. Then Willow asked Towanda to lead them in a simple cheer for their opponents:

2 – 4 – 6 – 8
Who do we appreciate?
The Queens! The Queens!
Yaaaaay!

Then there was more jumping, more hugging, and excited babble about some of the highlights of the game.

“Veronica!”

Veronica turned and saw Billie, Tizzie, and Kelly clustered around home plate. She went over to them.

Billie stepped towards her. “Mouse didn’t make it on base. You owe me ten cents!”

Veronica smiled, “Yeah I do.” She dug in her pocket and pulled out a handful of pennies. “And here it is!” She dropped the pennies on the ground, “Pick ‘em up!” Then she turned sharply and ran back to her team.

“Rosenberg!” Willow turned out of habit to respond to the voice of her former oppressor and walked back to save Tara from any new nastiness. “Now what, Cordelia?”

Cordelia strode forward and stopped inches from Willow as she took out the hundred dollar bill, ripped it in half, and dropped both pieces to float on the breeze before striding off to laugh at Willow’s efforts to chase down both halves of the bill. Willow jogged back up to Tara and the rest of the team just as Hallie walked up.

“Okay, you guys! We have a lot of work ahead of us! Take a knee.” She said importantly.

Devola reached over and squeezed Connie’s knee until Connie slapped her hand away.

Mouse was bent over grabbing her own knees.

Hallie blushed. “My coach always says that! It means you kneel on one knee to listen.”

Towanda knelt and others followed her, just as Lawanna walked up.

“What’s going on, Hal?”

“Post game coaching session.”

“What? Hallie, you can’t be their coach!”

“Lawanna, you sat right there at the counselors’ meeting when they asked for help and I volunteered.”

Lawanna nodded, “But I thought it was a one-shot deal, not going on into the games. You’re an umpire. You can’t coach a team and umpire the same team during a game! It’s wrong!”

Hallie flushed. “Are you saying I cheated?”

Lawanna met her eyes, “You know me better than that! But it isn’t done in league play and it looks bad. So it stops right now.”

“Lawanna!”

But Lawanna simply looked at her and turned to head back to their cabin.

Hallie looked apologetically at the team. “I can’t coach you. She’s the program leader and she’s my boss.” She threw a few unconscious jabs, then looked down at her hands, “Lawanna is right. I know I’m honest and she knows I’m honest, but it does look bad. Besides, you guys are playing for the championship now, we don’t want to give them any excuse to say it’s not fair.”

Willow nodded, “It’s okay, Hallie. Thanks for all your help.”

Hallie managed a smile, received a few sad hugs from the girls and walked off after Lawanna.

Devola put it succinctly. “That sucks!”

Willow nodded, not even having the heart to disagree with Devola’s word choice.

“Yeah.” Even Towanda was worried. “They were way ahead of us. How can we have a chance without a coach?”

Tara cut to the heart of it. “Do you w-want to quit? W-we could just forfeit.”

“No!” Everyone turned to look at Lisa, surprised that so easy-going a girl had spoken so loudly. “We can’t quit! We can’t be Tizzified by all their meanness!”

Devola giggled, “‘Tizzified’! That’s a good one!” She thought it over. “You’re right, Lisa! We can’t quit now!”

Connie spoke up. “Hey, if Devola can get on base the way she plays then anything can happen!”

Devola grinned, oblivious to the insult. “Yeah,” she bragged, “I psyched her out!”

“So did I!” Connie grinned back.

Mouse stood up proudly, “And I didn’t throw the bat!”

Everyone laughed and the decision was made to play all out for the championship, but Towanda was worried. “We still need a coach!”

Lisa smiled, “And we’ll find one. Just have a little faith and things will work out!”

*************************************************

It had been a noisy excited dinner and a loud campfire. The quiet of their room was soothing. Then they both started brushing their hair for bed in the glow of candlelight and everything changed.

Willow sighed, “Wish we could go outside right now and lay down together and,” she swallowed, “watch the stars.”

Tara moved closer, her whisper warm against Willow’s neck. “W-we could just step out the door, sit on the porch together.”

Willow’s eyes shone with eagerness and she headed towards the outside door then dashed back to jam the chair under the knob of the door to the kids’ room. “Just in case,” she said breathlessly.

Tara smiled and held open the door for Willow to walk through.

They sat and the peace of the night sky flowed over them.

Tara pointed up, her voice awed. “Like a silvery brush flicked over a black canvas over and over and over again.” She sighed, “I love the stars.”

Willow nodded, her voice oddly pensive. “It’s weird though, I mean the light travels to us and the star itself may be gone. You see the light and it’s a ghost of something dead and dark.”

Tara shivered, “No! L-light counts! It always counts, even if the star itself is gone!” She looked at Willow’s slender back arched to let her stare up at the night sky. She felt a nameless fear, “Willow,” she asked anxiously, “Are you l-looking at ghosts?”

Willow turned, somehow sensing her fear. “No,” she said tenderly, “I’m looking at you.” Then she put her hands on Tara’s cheeks and pulled her in for a kiss.

Tara parted her lips, letting the softness of an exploring tongue enter her mouth. Their tongues tasted and caressed until their breathing deepened and they were pressed breast to breast.

Suddenly an errant breeze sprang up, chilling them both and they threw their arms around each other’s waist and cuddled close.

Willow smiled at Tara. “Do you like astronomy?”

Tara’s mouth quirked up in her special smile. “Yes, but I study Taranian Astronomy.”

Willow was confused. “’Terranian’? But how can ‘earth’ be related to astronomy?”

Tara tapped herself on the chest. “Tara-anian Astronomy. It’s my own special kind.”

Willow grinned, “I’m in!” Then she sat up again and pointed to a constellation, “Bet you don’t know what that one is!” She waited patiently for about two seconds before announcing, “It’s Bootes, the Hunter.”

Tara grinned, “No, no, no! It’s ‘Polliwog Dancing with Castanets’.”

Willow laughed. “Polly who dancing with what?”

“Polliwog Dancing with Castanets,” Tara repeated patiently. “See the polliwog’s feet are down there and the castanets are in his left hand that’s raised up.”

Willow giggled again, then stopped. “You know, I can almost see it!” She pointed to another constellation, “That’s Libra.”

“No,” Tara’s laughter was whisper-quiet as she leaned in close. “'That’s Willow-Breast-Poinky-in-Profile'.”

Willow blushed, “You named a constellation after me?”

Tara nodded, “Taranian astronomy is dedicated to honoring beauty.”

Willow smiled then met Tara’s eyes and swallowed. “I like to honor beauty, too.” Suddenly she jumped to her feet and ran once around their cabin to return panting lightly. “Just doing a Finch-Patrol.” She looked at Tara, “We’re the only people awake in the whole camp.” She leaned forward, her smile bathed in star shine. “Now where were we?” She sat staring for a moment, looking at the sky again, then breathed deeply as she felt the star magic flowing inside her again. “Honoring beauty,” she repeated softly and leaned in to press her soft lips against the blooming fullness of Tara’s. Then her lips moved to pull Tara’s full lower lip into her mouth to taste it with her tongue while she got to breathe Tara’s sighs of pleasure. Then there was the melding of their breasts, soft curves and hardening nipples; their hearts beating together.

When the breeze came up a second time, they didn’t feel it.

Anyway, just one question. If this fic is set before season 1 in Buffy, does that mean Tara is a witch and vampires & demons exist?
Oh and in that case, are Tara's family asses who tell her that she is a demon? :gnome

You finally got to the softball game! Yaay! And the Reds won! :pinky I knew Cordelia had to be up to something when she asked Carly to do her laundry. That was so clever about having her use an identical twin in the game.

The game was soo suspenseful! You must know a lot about softball. I really liked reading about the different personalities of the kids who played. Mouse was so cute! I felt bad those some of those horrible Queens kept picking on her. Sheesh! It was great how Devola wiggled her butt and hands "like a pro-ball player." :lmao That was hilarious!

I loved "Taranian Astronomy" and "Willow-Breast-Poinky-in-Profile" :grin

I hope that the girls do get to find a good coach for their team. Could "having a little faith" be a clue?

Go Reds!

FINALLY feed backing...yay me!! :applause

Ok, I'll get right to it...Game = Awesome! :bounce

You really nailed the 7yr old experience. Lot's of mucking up on both teams...that's just how it goes at that age.

Kelly leaned forward to hiss, “You will be when we get you and get your team! Loser baby! Loser baby! You’re gonna strike out every time.” She smiled as she watched the little girl’s chin quiver. Then Mouse ran back to Veronica
I swear...I am so sick of these girls picking on Mouse!!! :angry :angry :gnome

Willow looked at the little girl. She sure got tan in the last three days, every inch of her is brown. Willow stared harder as Letty relaxed into her stance with her feet apart, bat cocked, and elbows out. Something is . . . not right.
First instincts Willow...first instincts.

I said,” Carly replied, “That this girl isn’t Letty Ballard. They’re twins, their parents are local folks who can’t afford to send both girls to camp so Mrs. Finch made a deal to let Letty come for the first two weeks and Lulu for the second two weeks. She told Cordelia and I about it on the first day of camp.
Haha, BUSTED Biyoooootch! :rofl

Veronica smiled, “Yeah I do.” She dug in her pocket and pulled out a handful of pennies. “And here it is!” She dropped the pennies on the ground, “Pick ‘em up!” Then she turned sharply and ran back to her team.
Hahahahahahaha...sometimes being a Chase DOES come in handy! I'm starting to like this kid! :fallen

Awwww, I love this!! So sweet! :blush

Hey Ariel!

I've said this before in some of Shel's updates about 'the game' that I really have no idea how it's played or anything about it, but it didn't stop me from being excited for this update, and you sure delievered. You made me forget I knew nothing about the game and had me completely hooked. So for that I :bow to you.
I really enjoyed everything from Willow and Tara's enthusiasm despite their lack of experience as coaches, to the girls efforts on the field.

Devola pranced into place then jumped back out of the batter’s box. She straightened her helmet, re-tied her pony tail, and re-tied both shoes before stepping into the batter’s box. She was bouncing with excitement. “I feel hitterish! Watch out, moon! This ball is going into orbit!” She took a bizarre batting stance that forced her own team-mates to stifle their laughter then began wiggling her butt, obviously believing that she looked like a big league batter.

and

Connie stepped to the plate and favored Tizzie with a bored glance. She stepped out of the batter’s box to yawn and stretch then stepped back in to see Tizzie’s face flush with anger.

Were brilliant! Loved the girls psyching the other team out.

Poor Mouse. Thought I found it adorable that she as so proud she didn't drop the bat.

It was very nice to see that not all of the girls from Cordy's cabin are turning out to be mini-bitca's. And I'm glad that Tara reminded her girls that not all of the other team were involved in the cheating.
Not the greatest way to win, but I'm soooo glad they did. Much, much love to Carly for showing up and foiling the Trio's evil scheme...oh, no, wait...that would be Cordy and Harmony's evil scheme. :blush

That talk about the light and ghosts was beautiful, and the stargazing was adorable.

Can't wait for the next update!!!

BuffyFan4ever:
:bow :bow :bow Hail to thee insomniac Dibster!!!

I loved the game. They might have only won because some Queens cheated, but a win's a win.

Absolutely true – and now our girls are headed for the championship game! :bounce :pinky :bounce

Glad a man of mathematics approves of Taranian Astronomy!

I was actually up around 3:00 a.m. myself – thanks for writing and sending those yawn icons! They encouraged me to head for bed!

Zampsa19752001:
I hope that when Finchmeister find out that Smurf Mutt cheated she gives Smurf Mutt & her lapdog a express ticket out of the camp.

:blush not EXACTLY what you wanted, but Mrs. F. does have something to say!

I really love Taranian Astronomy...

Glad to hear it! I want to have a few more ‘lessons’ so thanks for the kind words!

Laragh:
Sorry for bad flashback . . no more will be said! :blush

Glad you enjoyed the game, Mouse was a pint-sized hero there. She did her absolute best under hostile fire.

:laugh @Veronica dropping the pennies.

Funny how those Chase girls throw money around!

So happy you liked star-gazing and the ending. :wtkiss It was nice to see: Definitely a fringe benefit of writing! Aren't we lucky?

Wimpy:
Oh, FINALLY, the ballgame. LOVED IT. I knew Cordy was up to something by not wanting Carly there. Loved the star gazing too.

Great to have a good word from a key softball advisor. And at least two more of your ideas will be used, some as coaching advice and another in the big game itself.
Stay tuned . . . thanks for writing. :flower

Maggie AKA Leonhart17:
Glad the stupid ass cheaters got caught! Is it wrong to wish Cordelia would get hit by a truck? Cause I kind of do.

:clap :applause :applause :clap LOVE how you stick up for our girls! And after this post, you’ll be chipping in to hire a hit-man! But Willow comes through, promise!

.. And I loved the astronomy lesson - very sweet!

:blush Happy Dance! :pinky :pinky Glad it worked, ‘cos I want to do more of it in later posts!

Drah4me:
:clap :clap :clap right back at you! Thanks for the kind words!

Anyway, just one question. If this fic is set before season 1 in Buffy, does that mean Tara is a witch and vampires & demons exist? Oh and in that case, are Tara's family asses who tell her that she is a demon?

Total honesty: I don’t know. I am coming to a fork in the road as to whether this is closer to canon or not. I may well ask for advice from readers. So it’s an answer, but not much on info!

BlondCavalier:
You finally got to the softball game! Yaay! And the Reds won! The game was soo suspenseful! You must know a lot about softball. I really liked reading about the different personalities of the kids who played. Mouse was so cute! I felt bad those some of those horrible Queens kept picking on her. Sheesh!

Really glad you liked the game! :pinky :party :pinky because I was TOTALLY NERVOUS about it and re-wrote it about 5 times! Shelby/Finey_McFine and Wimpy were my softball angels who gave me advice and told me how to get a whole team disqualified. I’ve played some softball, but it’s been a long time . . . so thanks again to my two experts!!!

I loved "Taranian Astronomy" and "Willow-Breast-Poinky-in-Profile"

Your commitment to astronomy and admiration for other ‘Heavenly Bodies’ is very noble! *smirk*

As to your comment that “have a little faith” might be a hint, I refuse to comment on the grounds that you’re completely right! Good catch!!! :bow :bow :bow

Go Reds!

:applause

Wow! Our first cheer! And speaking of cheers . . . stay tuned for the big game in less than a week (that’s camp time, though!)

Shelby AKA Finey_McFine:
Glad you liked the game!!! :bow :bow :bow Thanks for all your help!

In response to Kelly’s picking on Mouse, you wrote:
I swear...I am so sick of these girls picking on Mouse!!!

And yet, she was a real sport and a real hero. So stay tuned for . . Revenge of the Mouse

Your response to the discovery of Lulu Ballard, playing illegally under Cordelia’s request:
Haha, BUSTED Biyoooootch! :rofl

And THAT’s one of many reasons I love your feedback! :pinky :bounce :pinky

It is funny how Chase girls enjoy throwing money around! Stay tuned for the big game!

And finally, glad the ending section touched your heart as they cuddled together against a cold breeze. I think we’re all suckers for love! :love

Laura AKA laurax1:
You made me forget I knew nothing about the game and had me completely hooked.

Wow!!! That really put a shine on my day! :pinky :party :pinky because this chapter was incredibly hard for me to write!

Thanks for your response to Devola’s batting act and Connie’s yawn-fest!
Were brilliant! Loved the girls psyching the other team out.

It was very nice to see that not all of the girls from Cordy's cabin are turning out to be mini-bitca's. And I'm glad that Tara reminded her girls that not all of the other team were involved in the cheating.

Yeah. Imagine Towanda, Bettina, Devola, Connie and Veronica with Cordy and Harmony as their counselors? Their bad qualities would dominate and they would be very different from who they are now. For me, that’s the sad part about Cordelia and Harmony being counselors.

That talk about the light and ghosts was beautiful, and the stargazing was adorable.

They are beautiful together! :flower :love :flower

As for “Can’t wait for the next update” – here it is! How’s THAT for service!

Part 33: Darkness and Light

Willow awakened to find herself in her favorite place in the world: inside Tara’s embrace with her cheek pillowed on Tara’s breast. She nuzzled the soft warmth, heart glad that it was hers to love and began kissing Mare gently. Tara inhaled sharply, unconsciously thrusting the nipple into Willow’s mouth and Willow made herself lift her head. I can’t get Tara’s tank top wet, not when it’s almost morning! Hmmm. A delicate operation. She began inching Tara’s tank top up, pausing breathlessly whenever Tara seemed to awaken. She had no idea why she felt the need of caution now that they were lovers, but somehow this morning’s kiss had to be stolen. She paused and held her breath, then tugged ever so gently on Tara’s tank top again. It’s caught under her back! How can I— Then Tara shifted and Willow pulled the bunched fabric higher up Tara’s back then returned to the deliciously nerve-wracking task of exposing Mare to her eager lips.

There she is! She paused for a moment; this was her Mt. Everest and she savored her triumph. A moment later she bent her neck and placed a warm kiss around the brown sweetness of Tara’s nipple before gently taking it into her mouth. Then she reached a hand up to massage the breast she caressed with her tongue and lips.

Suddenly she felt Tara’s fingers tangle themselves in her hair and then trail slowly down her neck and dance along her spine. Tara’s seeking hands glided up the back of Willow’s pajamas and Willow shivered and threw a leg between Tara’s legs and felt the warmth between her lover’s thighs press against her pajama-covered leg.

A moment later Tara’s arms returned to tighten their embrace and pull them into the warmth of their mutual desire. Then Tara rolled them on their sides so they could look at each other. “M-morning, sweetie.”

Willow’s eyes were shining, “Hey, Tara.” She blushed and said what she had dreamed of saying. “Hey, lover.”

Tara’s eyes glowed. Then she leaned in, pressed her full lips against Willow’s answering softness and began drinking the kisses from Willow’s tongue until Willow sighed with pleasure and returned the caress.

Meanwhile, Tara’s hand was warm on Willow’s belly, rubbing circles on the satin flesh before sliding a passionate palm up to cup each of Willow’s lovely breasts while her thumb caressed the rosebuds. They hardened under her touch and invited her lips so she laid Willow on her back and began to tongue kiss the lovely warmth while Willow moaned very softly under the caress. Finally Tara offered a final press of lips and tongue and smiled into Willow’s eyes. “L-love my ‘Milk” and ‘Honey’!” Then she moved back to view Willow’s body in profile and smiled, “’Willow-Breast-Poinky-in-Profile’! Definitely!”

Then she wrapped her arms around Willow and squeezed her breathless until Willow jabbed her sides and launched a tickle attack. Tara breathed in sharply, then exploded with laughter. An instant later they heard feet hit the floor and they looked at each other, stole an instant’s brush of the lips, and Willow jumped up to remove the chair from the door as a stream of little girls came charging into the room.

“What is it? What is it?” Debbie asked eagerly.

Devola grinned, “Is it a joke?”

Mouse simply hurried happily to Willow’s side and hugged her around the thighs.

Tara spoke, eyes dancing as she tried to conceal her smile. “I w-was attacked!” Tara shot Willow a quick glance, “By the Terrible Tickle-Monster!”

Willow caught her cue, “Rar!” She roared again and curved her fingers into wiggling tickle-claws; then launched her attack at the screaming girls who fled into the main room. They giggled, hid under bunks and behind dressers, climbed atop the table and screamed.

Then Tara spoke from the other room. “The only thing that can defeat a Tickle-Monster is a Blanket Monster!” She leaped into the room, covered by the blanket and the Tickle Monster rushed into battle and the girls went crazy with excitement as the clash of the titans raged around the room.

The Tickle-Monster jumped in claws extended, but the Blanket Monster dodged then suddenly enveloped the Tickle-Monster with its deadly blanket.

There was an eerie silence. Then a deep Tara-like voice spoke. “Do you know what h-happens when a Blanket Monster captures a Tickle Monster?”

“No!” Devola said eagerly and the others smiled in anticipation.

“They become a terrifying team of tickling and blanketing!” Then Tara and Willow began chasing the girls around all over again until everyone was breathless with laughter.

“S-stop!” Connie was gasping and holding her side. “I can’t laugh anymore!”

Devola jumped up. “Let’s do it again!”

Tara and Willow looked at each other and grinned. “L-let’s get dressed, get hair braided and h-head for breakfast!”

Devola groaned in disappointment, but everyone else got ready without protest.

Tara led the way out, pausing on the porch to appreciate the faint ground mist before it burned off in the morning sun. Then she felt Willow’s arm snug around her waist and gazed quickly into her lover’s eyes. “Another beautiful day,” was all she said, but Willow understood and met her eyes. “Beautiful,” Willow answered softly.

*************************************************

Everyone had an appetite after the morning’s adventures and Mouse added an extra handful of raisins to her oatmeal. Then she picked up the bowl and stared helpless as it slipped out of her hands and crashed to the floor. An instant later Veronica ran to the kitchen and returned with a sponge, fortunately the oatmeal was unusually thick and almost nothing spilled so the clean up was quick.

Faith took over, “You!” She grabbed Veronica and placed her behind the eggs tray and slapped a slotted spoon in her hand. “Serve eggs” and you, she began pulling Mouse into the kitchen, “Come with me!” She knelt down and looked Mouse in the eyes. “Okay, kid. What’s with you and the oatmeal?”

Mouse stared up, big-eyed and confused.

Faith softened her tone and smiled. “Hey, so what’s up with the flying oatmeal act? You’ve spilled it about 11 times already!”

Mouse shrugged. “I dunno,” she answered softly.

“Do you even like oatmeal?”

Mouse’s voice was a whisper. “No.”

Faith grinned, “Yeah, it tastes like wallpaper paste or something to me! So why do you always get it?”

Mouse dropped her eyes, “My Mommy makes me eat it.”

Faith caught the sadness in her voice and slid an arm around the little girl. “You miss her, huh?”

Mouse nodded.

“Tell you what. You have a nice plate of scrambled eggs and sausage and potatoes and I’ll always put a spoonful of oatmeal and raisins on your plate, too. That work for you, kid?”

Mouse looked up timidly, then smiled and nodded again.

Faith swallowed, and gave the little girl another hug. “Okay, kid, we’re set. Let’s go get you some nice breakfast.” She laughed suddenly, “’Nice breakfast’ now I sound like—“

“My Mommy!” Mouse hugged her around the legs, “Just like my Mommy.”

Faith looked around quickly, then ruffled Mouse’s hair. “Okay kid, just don’t tell anybody!”

Mouse nodded, feeling important to have a secret with a grown up and looked up at Faith. “Can I tell you a secret?”

“Sure, kid.”

“I wanna ride the horses. The big lady says I’m too little but I wanna ride the horses like the big girls do.”

“You do?” Faith straightened, “We’ll get that all fixed up. No worries, kid. I’ll tell Tara and we’ll get it going on.”

They smiled at each other and walked back to find Veronica still serving. “Nice job, V. You should turn pro!”

Veronica giggled, then suddenly found herself face to face with Cordelia as the line moved forward.

Cordelia stared. “And what is this all about!” She turned to Faith. “What are you trying to do? Turn my cousin into a low-rent loser like you!” She snatched the spoon out of Veronica’s hand and slammed it down into the egg pan. “Eat your breakfast, Veronica!” She turned back to glare at Faith, “And you, stay away from my cousin!”

Faith scooped up some eggs and started to move the spoon into catapult position. “Did you say you wanted eggs?”

Cordelia glared then hurried off, hunching her shoulders as if to ward off the attack as Faith lowered the spoon reluctantly.

*************************************************

Tara finished talking with Faith about riding lessons for Mouse and sat down just as Willow returned from the bathroom and slid back into her seat. She smiled and bent to whisper into Tara’s ear, “I think I’m done with my period!”

Devola was across the table. “Willow, what did you say?”

Willow’s head had been angled well enough for Bettina to read her lips and the little girl answered without thinking, “She said she’s done with her period.” Bettina gave Willow a puzzled glance. “What’s a period?”

Towanda frowned. “N.O.Y.B”

Bettina glanced at her, confused, and Towanda elaborated, “None of Your Business! It’s big girl stuff!”

Devola was afire with curiosity. “Come on, Willow! Tell us!”

Willow blushed and dropped her eyes and Tara came to her rescue. “It’s something for your Mom to tell you about when you’re ready.”

Devola protested, “I’m ready right now!”

“Devola,” Towanda said firmly. “Just shut up.”

Tara looked at Towanda who lifted her chin defiantly. Then Tara met Devola’s eyes and smiled. “Sometimes ‘shut-up’ has its place.” Then she looked back at Towanda, “But only sometimes.”

Towanda grinned in acknowledgement and peace was restored.

Devola meanwhile was looking for a new topic of interest. “Hey, Tara. You don’t stutter like you used to! That’s great, huh?”

Tara blushed, “Y-yes it is.”

Devola looked concerned. “Did I do something wrong? Did I make you stutter?”

“N-no. It just comes and goes. Y-you aren’t to blame, it’s not your fault.” Suddenly Willow’s arm was around her waist, pulling her in so that she could feel Willow’s warmth against her side.

Lisa reached down the table to touch Devola’s wrist. “Stop it,” she whispered, “You’re embarrassing her.”

Devola looked stricken. “Tara, I’m really, really sorry! Everybody says I have a big mouth and I guess I do! I don’t want to embarrass you! I like you!”

Tara swallowed, and managed a smile. “It’s okay. I know you l-like me and I like y-you, too!”

Devola was inconsolable, “But I made it worse!”

Willow tried to step in. “Tara talked about this on our first day together, remember? Sometimes it’s hard having a speech problem, but she’s going to work on it and it will get better.” She turned to Tara, “I’ll help! I’ll do some research.”

Tara dropped her eyes. It must embarrass her to hear me talk. The first thing she said to me was ‘poor kid’ after I stuttered. She’s always complimenting me when I don’t stutter, even after we made love that time. She felt tears pricking in her eyes and stood quickly, “M-might be a good time for a shower.” She waved and left hurriedly.

*************************************************

Tara stood daydreaming, letting the warm water relax her until familiar voices brought her back.

“Look at that tan line!” Cordy’s laugh was scornful.

Harmony smiled maliciously, “The sharecroppers’s special: face and chest and forearms! This farm girl’s out there a-workin!”

Tara jerked upright to see Cordelia and Harmony holding her clothes out of reach and eyeing her naked body with amused contempt.

Cordelia clasped her hands in front of her, “Ooooh, she has muscles! Isn’t that exciting, Harmony?”

Tara stood tall, determined not to give ground. “H-hand me my clothes! I d-don’t w-want to be late.”

Their laughter trilled. “Okay, we’ll ‘h-hand’ you’re your clothes since you ‘d-don’t w-want’ to be late.” Cordelia turned to Harmony, her voice light and friendly. “Isn’t it cute the way she talks? Kind of shy and awkward.” Then her voice sharpened to cruelty, “Kind of dumb and pathetic!” She stared hard at Tara. “Willow must be so ashamed of you, but then your public speaking talents aren’t what count with her, are they?” She leaned in close, fluttering her eyelashes in a mockery of innocent confusion. “Does she pay you? You know, afterwards?”

Tara gave an inarticulate yell and strode forward, then slipped and landed hard on the wet tiles, while the laughter echoed around her. Meanwhile her clothes were tossed into a damp corner of the shower stall.

“St-stop it! Y-you c-can’t tr-treat m-me l-like—“

Cordelia cut her off. “Of course we can, Tara. Because there’s no w-w-witnesses. Tell your ‘W-willow’ that this is payback for yesterday!” Then her tormentors turned to go, their laughter echoing behind them. Tara pulled herself up, crouching until she was sure that they had left, then dried herself and struggled into her damp clothes.

Tara raised a shaking hand to the door jamb just outside the dining hall and drew a ragged breath. Then she locked her jaw, squared her shoulders, and forced herself to walk into the familiar circle of chairs and sit by Willow.

Willow glanced sharply at Tara, seeing the flushed face and the muscles working in the taller girl’s throat. Instinctively she slid her knee against Tara’s and reached out a comforting hand to clasp Tara’s cold fingers tight in her own.

Mrs. Finch was winding down the meeting and had obviously been waiting, “Well, Tara? Willow said you had an update on the private lessons for the riding program. Please begin.”

Tara turned her head slowly to meet Mrs. Finch’s eyes. She was afraid to unclench her jaw, afraid of crying in front of all of them. But Willow was watching her and she had to try. “Uh about the uh pr-private l-lessons.”

There was a titter from Cordelia and Harmony and Tara’s head jerked upright.

She sat up straight. “Pr-private l-lessons to h-help k-kids w-with—“

“Stuttering?” Cordelia suggested innocently. Tara’s face burned.

Mrs. Finch looked up sharply. “Cordelia, that’s enough! Tara is struggling with a handicap and it’s simply unacceptable to be so rude about it! Tara, you were saying?”

“W-we have Mouse from our cabin, Sadie from eights, and Dee from twelves signed up for private l-lessons so far.”

“And Willow, of course!” Mrs. Finch looked disapprovingly at Willow. “I insist you make her riding lessons a top priority. It’s embarrassing how timid she is, considering that she is a member of the riding program team!”

Willow fought off an ear-to-grin with difficulty. “I’ll keep trying, Mrs. Finch.”

“Good. And at tomorrow’s meeting, Saturday, I expect to hear some progress on all your songs!”

Willow went white and several others shifted uncomfortably.

“Now on to another topic.” Mrs. Finch cleared her throat. “I hope we take a lesson from yesterday’s unfortunate events on the softball field.” She looked disapprovingly at Cordelia and Harmony. “Specifically we should learn that ‘Honesty is the best policy’ and ‘Cheaters never prosper’.”

Carly clasped her hands as if in prayer and bent her neck to hide her dancing eyes, “A beautiful message,” she intoned.

Faith, bent over a nearby table, clapped a hand over her heart. “Kind of gets you right here!”

Cordelia looked angrily at Faith. “What are you doing here?”

“Cleaning the tables, princess!” Faith looked around for her cleaning rag and realized that she’d forgotten to bring it.

“With what?” Cordelia snapped, “Your face? Your clothes?” She looked Faith up and down scornfully. That would explain a lot!”

Mrs. Finch looked hard at Faith. “I believe you have work to do and I remind you that you don’t belong at these meetings.”

Faith straightened and ad-libbed, “I’m here because I’m Willow and Tara’s new coach!” She grinned at Cordelia. “How’s that, Princess? You like?”

Cordelia glared back. “You’re not qualified!” She turned back to Mrs. Finch. “She’s kitchen help, not a coach!”

Willow shot Tara a quick glance and jumped in, “We asked her this morning!”

Tara nodded eagerly. “W-we did!”

Hallie’s voice was level, “Faith has the skills.”

Lawanna nodded her agreement and that settled it.

*************************************************

Mrs. Finch dismissed the meeting and Willow pulled Tara up by the hand, dying for every minute of private time they could have together. She tried to tug Tara into a run. Yet when they entered the barn and Willow slammed the board behind them, locking them in, Tara grabbed her shoulders and avoided an embrace.

“W-willow. W-when I st-stutter. Are y-you ashamed of m-me?”

“Tara? We don’t have that much time together!”

Tara’s face was knotted in anguish, “Because I h-have t-to know! I h-have t-to know if y-you’re a-sh-shamed of me!”

Willow stared at lover then grabbed Tara’s hands, squeezing them until they were white. She sensed that this was a moment; that she had to find exactly the right words. She hesitated for an instant, then met her lover’s eyes and fought to explain.

“Tara, nobody really knows if light is a wave or a particle, okay?”

Tara stared back at her, stunned by her response.

Then Willow grabbed Tara’s hands and kissed them, silently begging for another chance to speak her heart. Then she swallowed and tried again.

“I mean it’s confusing because light moves like a wave, but it has weight and mass like a particle; but when you’re sitting in the sunlight, feeling it warm your body, none of that matters. So when you talk to me, I hear your voice and I don’t care if the words have a couple of extra syllables or come out a little differently.” Her face glowed with love, “All I feel is sunlight. All I hear is music.”

There was a frozen moment where their eyes locked, Willow’s shining with hope that Tara understood her and Tara’s shining with joy at the love staring her right in the face.

Then they walked straight into each other’s arms.

dibs?

Happy Birthday! Yay!

Cordelia is a bitch but I'm glad Faith didn't get her with the eggs and get herself in trouble... But Tara needs to tell her what happened in the shower so Willow and/or Faith and throw a beatdown! I really loved what Willow said about Tara's stutter at the end - so very nerdy, but sweet at the same time. Adorable!

Yay for great update-y goodness.... I'm glad that Faith figured out a new breakfast for Mouse that reminds her of her mom's oatmeal breakfast without having too much oatmeal in it... Smurf Mutt needs her eggs Faith style more often... I hope the Resistance very very soon makes Smurf Mutt & her lap bitch regret comming to the camp and teach them that they really aren't top dogs... I love Willow's way of convincing Tara that Tara's stutter is sexy and doesn't bother Willow at all... :wtkiss

So I missed feedback on the last update. Definitely not missing this one. For starters happy birthday! Hope its fabulous. And on with the feedback. I love Faith in this story! She's beyond awesome and I love your portrayal of her. Cordelia... well what can I say that hasn't already been said a thousand times over? What a BITCH! One swift kick in the ass is definitely in order. Or maybe a dozen. Finally Will and Tara very cute. I did like how Willow compared Tara's stutter to light and sunshine. That's such an aww, feel good moment. Kudos.
Anya: I don't like the sound of this. They don't sound very ex-demon compatible.
Tara: Are you sure they're English? I thought English people were, um, gentler than uh... normal people.

Today's your Bday and We all get the present..thank you! Today is Your special day and it should be all hugs and puppies. However comma Cordelia needs a beating and I think Faith is just the gal to give it to her. It hurt my heart to read all the terrible things Cordelia said/did to my sweet Tara. But, You eneded the chapter on a very nice note with our wonderfully nerdy and sweet Willow....But, Enough of being punching bags. It's time for somebody to bring the pain to Beavis and Butthead.

Happy Birthday :banana :balloons

There she is! She paused for a moment; this was her Mt. Everest and she savored her triumph.

L.M.A.O :lmao. Love it.

What a sweet morning wake-up :) Sexy but still capturing their wonderful...juvenility. Is that a word? I'm saying it is if it isn't.

I love their interaction with the kiddies. Aww, Faith and Mouse! Way too cute!

Ha. Ha. Ha. Period talk. Hehehe. I'm so immature.

It must embarrass her to hear me talk. The first thing she said to me was ‘poor kid’ after I stuttered. She’s always complimenting me when I don’t stutter, even after we made love that time.

Aww no, Tara. Don't jump to that conclusion. Those 'compliments' are just 'cause Willow's so happy that you're comfortable around her :( Aww. Now I'm sad :(

Oh Cordy :mad :mad :mad I wanna cut a bitch!

Now I'm happy again :)

:dumbo Happy birthday :dumbo

Absolutely love this fic
Cordelia really is a bitch in this, but it's completley in character for pre season one. Hope when it comes to the talent show Cordelia and her little lapdog Harmony get extra humiliation and would love to see the girls get a duet.

Faith is really great i always thought her and Tara could have been friends in the series. The litttle campers are so cute especially Veronica being very protective of Mouse (had a a cute image of during the halloween spell in season 2 Veronica protecting her and mouse from the costumed kids.)

Would be funny to see Anya show up offering vengence against Cordelia. Although Anya around children probably wouldn't end well.

Finally I loved the last little bit,

“Tara? We don’t have that much time together!”
Thought it was an indication of both her wanting to be with Tara in the short time they've got for the day and also fear about what's going to happen to both of them when camp ends.

Then I was a little confused by this
“Tara, nobody really knows if light is a wave or a particle, okay?”
:hmm

but then it all made sense
“I mean it’s confusing because light moves like a wave, but it has weight and mass like a particle; but when you’re sitting in the sunlight, feeling it warm your body, none of that matters. So when you talk to me, I hear your voice and I don’t care if the words have a couple of extra syllables or come out a little differently.” Her face glowed with love, “All I feel is sunlight. All I hear is music.”
and all i could do was go aww so very Willow :grin

Plus
Willow’s shining with hope that Tara understood her and Tara’s shining with joy at the love staring her right in the face.
Then they walked straight into each other’s arms.
sounds like Tara may be slowly getting closer to telling Willow about her evil father and brother, by seeing how much Willow cares for her and isn't ashamed of her. :applause :applause

P.s I just realised i heard the name Finch before in Buffy it was the surname of the deputy mayor who Faith killed in season 3
Matty- Lovers Dearest, Falling in love at christmas A trip through time thinking about the verse

Tara: I am, you know.
Willow: What?
Tara: Yours.

BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY -- HOPE IT WAS FANTASTIC!!

Well, so much here. I always love the morning wake up snuggles, especially when they include nipple kissage. :bigkiss But hey, who doesn't love that.

Then I love the little touches of Faith helping out Mouse. I was actually watching Bring It On while reading this. I just love this Faith and "Missy". lol

Then the crappy drama brought on by Cordelia's evil mind. She is just beyond cruel. I'm still trying to think of an appropriate punishment for her. Poor Tara, and add that on top of what she's already thinking, that Willow is ashamed of her. I'm so glad that got resolved so well at the end. Poor girl is actually doing pretty good considering how her self esteem has been beaten down over the years, which probably caused her stutter in the first place. But hey, one glowing spot in the shower was picturing Tara's wet, rippling muscles, so thanks for that!

And I think I'll end on that note, and enjoy that visual all day with a small on my face. Thanks!

Oopsy, just when I had the FB complete for the softball game, I discover you’ve already put on the next chapter along so I’m making this one a double header.

What Veronica lacks in technique she makes up for in fury. The girl has anger issues and the kids who have gone toe to toe with her respect her prowess. Tara’s struggle is to teach her alternatives.

I’m guessing that Veronica has been in more than a few fights in the past and that the anger issues somehow related to family perhaps? Still at least she’s in the right cabin. I couldn’t see her wanting to get all prettified like blunder Mutt and her charges.

Ok I got to admit right from the start, I have no idea what’s going on in a lot of this chapter because I just plain don’t know softball. I have no idea what the little figures in brackets mean next to each players name. Over here it’s usually soccer, rugby or nothing. ?

Connie said quickly, “And don’t curse or slug the umpire.”
Willow and Tara laughed in spite of themselves.
“Hey, I’m serious! We lost our game when our coach cursed out the umpire and belted him.”

Sorry if I shouldn’t have but I found this moment hilarious, just the image of the coach, who should have been teaching his team how to play fair and by the rules, breaking them himself.

I love Devola’s antics as a batter, wiggling her butt, practically psyching out the opponent’s pitcher, blowing kisses at the umpire. If HIMYM were a tv series Devola would definitely be the one to get her own spin off show.

Veronica sighed and walked heavily to the batter’s box, feeling her cousin’s intense stare. She stood, took two balls then swung weakly at three straight pitches and was called out.I’m guessing that Border Collie threatened her cousin to fail during her time at the bat.

Kelly saw that Lawanna was gone and leaned in to Mouse, “Cry baby, loser!”

Kelly leaned forward to hiss, “You will be when we get you and get your team! Loser baby! Loser baby! You’re gonna strike out every time.” She smiled as she watched the little girl’s chin quiver. Then Mouse ran back to Veronica while Kelly smiled and gave Tizzie and Billie a thumbs-up
. :angry

What an evil fucking bitch. Pardon the swearing but it’s the best phrase to sum that girl up. I know and understand Tara is teaching her alternatives but I sincerely hope that Veronica beats the living snot out of Kelly for picking on Mouse.
At least Mouse is part of team where they let her have a chance to play in the game, even though they must all know she’s a poor player, so kudos there I think.

Willow was so awesome in comforting Mouse she would make such a great mom, which I guess is where you’re taking this mini epic.

Then she noticed Dee Hoffryn walking around, peering under bushes and behind trash cans.

Nice smile moment here. Didn’t even notice it til I was re-reading it for the FB.

Willow’s eyes were riveted to the game. “Tense. If this keeps up, they’re about one inning away from slaughter-balling us. The score is eight to three and the bases are loaded!”

Huh? What? Huh? I said I knew nothing about softball, this should prove it .

If Letty goes for the first two weeks and Lulu for the last two how many weeks have gone by, cos it feels like three or four to me in reading this story.

I can’t believe that the members of the Queen’s who cheated still demanded their money from Veronica. At least she throws it on the floor so they have to grovel in the dirt for it. And Cordelia being the sorest of sore losers can’t just give the money to Willow, no she has to rip it in half. No wonder Veronica has issues being related to her.

“Yeah.” Even Towanda was worried. “They were way ahead of us. How can we have a chance without a coach?”

Maybe Carly or her dad can help the Red’s out.

So even though the Red’s won this game they still have to play at least one more, maybe two if the Queen’s win the second game. Man this is some intense pressure you’re piling on. It also means that Cordy is gonna pull out all the stops to try and win that trophy isn’t she.

The star gazing scene is was just wonderful with Taranian Astronomy, made up constellations, Willow doing a Finch patrol check to ensure she and Tara are safe from Finchy and extra smooches. All in all, the perfect end to a decent chapter.

Wow, what a deliciously erotic way to start the chapter. And the day, And that’s even before Tara gets started on Willow. ;)

Reading the ‘Tickle Monster’, ‘Blanket Monster’ scene; while I never went to a summer camp if there were any with counsellors like Willow and Tara then I’d have loved to have gone and been under their care.

The scene with Mouse and Faith was so nice and sweet showing us an alternate caring side to Tara’s rough and ready friend. What I don’t get though is if Mouse doesn’t like oatmeal cos her mom makes her eat it why does she get it at camp?

“Tell you what. You have a nice plate of scrambled eggs and sausage and potatoes and I’ll always put a spoonful of oatmeal and raisins on your plate, too. That work for you, kid?”

Just wondering, when I visited New York a few years ago, I noticed that almost all the breakfast meals were with potatoes. Why? Why all the potatoes?

I think its so sweet and cute that Mouse and Faith have formed this bond. I hope Mouse gets to horse ride with Tara and Veronica cos they’ll both look after her.

SuperMutt doesn’t seem to have given a shit so far for her cousin, so why doesn’t she mind her own fucking business. Sorry for swearing.

Loved the little moment where Bettina accidentally tells the whole cabin Willow’s had her period, then both she and Devola want to know what one is.

I feel bad for both Devola and Tara. Devola cos she doesn’t mean to offend, and even admits she has a big mouth but she does genuinely care about Tara, Willow and the rest of the girls in the cabin.

Tara well first off its Tara, one of the nicest people in the universe, secondly when I was a kid I had a speech impediment too. I had a lisp even in high school so I know what it’s like to be tormented over how she speaks.

GRRRR :fit :happy :angry :mad :rage just so angry at SuperMutt and WonderBitch picking on Tara that if I say anything it’ll all just be cuss words. However, I am expecting blood to be shed over this bullying. Fucking bitches. See, I told ya.

Nice to see the Doggie Duo getting bollockings for cruelty to Tara and then for cheating on the softball game. Shouldn’t the Reds have won the trophy outright for that?

“And Willow, of course!” Mrs. Finch looked disapprovingly at Willow. “I insist you make her riding lessons a top priority. It’s embarrassing how timid she is, considering that she is a member of the riding program team!”

Now this is a chapter to look forward to, Willow on a horse riding lesson

“Good. And at tomorrow’s meeting, Saturday, I expect to hear some progress on all your songs!”

And even more fun for Willow, having to sing in front of others. Hopefully only Tara and the Finchmeister and no one else.

Would SuperMutt actually be allowed to talk to another staff member the way she talks to Faith during the meeting? She is really only there as staff herself.

I’m glad they were able to get a coach for the Reds, now they have an even better chance of winning the trophy.

I love how at the end Willow is able to prove to Tara that it’s not how she speaks that matters but what she feels for her girl, which is nothing less than pure love and how it makes Willow feel <3. Now get Carly and Faith to go kick the crap out of the Dogs.

And I hope you had a very happy birthday with lots of Willow and Tara awesomeness :D

HAPPY BIRITHDAY...ONE YEAR EARLY! :lmao :balloons :balloons :balloons

Willow awakened to find herself in her favorite place in the world: inside
Tara’s embrace with her cheek pillowed on Tara’s breast.
Certainly no place better that I can think of!

-Super cute exchange with Faith and Mouse!

Here we go...they truly are the Queens of the misunderstandings! lol

CORDELIA: What a f*cking Bitch! Why can't this be one of those camps where the serial killer comes and kills the popular girl? Huh? Why?

Willow fought off an ear-to-grin with difficulty. “I’ll keep trying, Mrs. Finch.”
Uh huh, if Willow wasn;t so busy "petting Dolly" I bet she'd have made more progress by now! :lmao

Carly clasped her hands as if in prayer and bent her neck to hide her dancing eyes, “A beautiful message,” she intoned.

Faith, bent over a nearby table, clapped a hand over her heart. “Kind of gets you right here!”
Awesome! :-p I love these two and glad that W/T covered right away for Faith. Signs of a lasting friendship growing!

“Tara, nobody really knows if light is a wave or a particle, okay?”
I read this and my first reaction was straight up...WTF? :rofl So, so nerdy Willow.

Great chapter! Looking forward to the one when they tie Cordy to a tree, cover her with honey and let the ants take over! Soon right?? :fallen :fallen

Hi Ariel -

First of all, Happy Birthday! :banana :wave I feel like it's me who got the present with this great update!

I loved the romantic way you began the chapter, and then followed it with the Blanket Monster and the Tickle Monster! Ha Ha !

Faith is one of my favorite characters anyway, and I love her so much in this chapter, esp. with Mouse and the oatmeal. That's so cute!

I can't believe Cordelia and Harmony! They were so HORRIBLE to Tara I wanted to personally get revenge on them myself! Grrrgh! Arrggh! :gnome :fit :smash :angry :fit2 I really hope they get their come-uppance!

I'm really glad Faith and Tara are taking Mouse for horseback riding lessons. That's a great idea, Mouse deserves it, and I know Faith and Tara will be really great teachers! :) :bounce

I love what Willow said about light being waves or particles - that's a beautiful response to Tara's question and I hope Tara realizes that despite what those jerks Cordelia and Harmony say, Willow really does love her and she doesn't embarrass her. :wtkiss

All in all, well done, great job, and can't wait to read more (including about the upcoming talent show! ;)

:clap :clap :clap

Maggie AKA Leonhart17:
Thanks for the B-day wish! Kitten wishes are extra-nice! :flower

Yeah, Faith didn’t need to get busted over an egg war!

But Tara needs to tell her what happened in the shower so Willow and/or Faith and throw a beatdown!

You’re right but Willow has her own problems . . .

I really loved what Willow said about Tara's stutter at the end - so very nerdy, but sweet at the same time. Adorable!

Awww! Thanks! :bounce :pinky :bounce

Zampsa19752001:
Smurf Mutt needs her eggs Faith style more often... I hope the Resistance very very soon makes Smurf Mutt & her lap bitch regret comming to the camp and teach them that they really aren't top dogs.

Yeah, kind of like an egg shampoo! And yeah, they need it and they are going to get it! Take a look at posts from others for Cordelia punishment – you’re not alone! They will get it, but for now, Willow is in trouble!

I love Willow's way of convincing Tara that Tara's stutter is sexy and doesn't bother Willow at all... :wtkiss

:flower Yeah, Willow is wonderful . . . *sigh*

Thanks for wonderful B-day wish!!! Loved getting it! :love

Jessica AKA beautiful_love:
I love Faith in this story! She's beyond awesome and I love your portrayal of her.

Thanks! I can throw that compliment right back at you – love your Faith, too!

A dozen ass kicks for Cordelia . . hmmm . . . GREAT idea!!! :clap :clap :clap

Finally Will and Tara very cute. I did like how Willow compared Tara's stutter to light and sunshine. That's such an aww, feel good moment. Kudos.

Glad it worked – thanks for the kind words and B-day wishes! Yay!! :flower

SMGOVAN:
Nice birthday wishes . . . hugs and puppies . . . mmmmmmm!

However comma Cordelia needs a beating and I think Faith is just the gal to give it to her. It hurt my heart to read all the terrible things Cordelia said/did to my sweet Tara.

28 karat BITCH doesn’t go far enough, BUT she will get what she deserves.

Glad you liked the “sweet and nerdy Willow” ending!

And this final thought made me laugh out loud: :lmao :laugh :lmao
But, Enough of being punching bags. It's time for somebody to bring the pain to Beavis and Butthead.

You’re one of a kind!

Laragh:
Birthday wish!!! :dumbo :pinky :dumbo Thanks!!!

There she is! She paused for a moment; this was her Mt. Everest and she savored her triumph.
L.M.A.O :lmao Love it.

What a sweet morning wake-up. Sexy but still capturing their wonderful...juvenility. Is that a word? I'm saying it is if it isn't.

Glad it’s working – I’m trying to walk that line between them being young women AND girls, who are humorous, awkward, passionate and crazy in love.

Glad you liked Faith and Mouse. :flower

Oh CordyI :mad :mad :mad wanna cut a bitch!

Check out other posts from Jessica, Zampsa, Shelby, and more! You are in good company!

Mgraham93:
Wow, you GOT the Finch reference! :bow :bow :bow

Dumbo birthday wishes! How good is that! (Movie still makes me cry!)

Absolutely love this fic
Cordelia really is a bitch in this, but it's completley in character for pre season one. Hope when it comes to the talent show Cordelia and her little lapdog Harmony get extra humiliation and would love to see the girls get a duet.

So, that’ll be a ‘yes’ – stay tuned! And thanks for feedback! :bounce :flower :bounce

Would be funny to see Anya show up offering vengeance against Cordelia. Although Anya around children probably wouldn't end well.

Wild vengeance idea! You may have won this week’s prize! Check out other amazing suggestions! Loved you picturing Veronica and Mouse trick-or-treating in Sunnydale – hmmm . . . . .

sounds like Tara may be slowly getting closer to telling Willow about her evil father and brother, by seeing how much Willow cares for her and isn't ashamed of her.

Trust is building, but it takes time and time is running short . . .

Clare AKA wayland:
Loved the B-day wish – thanks!

I really enjoy this story and I loved Faith in this chapter. Excellent characterization.

Glad she’s working for you! Appreciated the feedback and want more Donegal Street!

Wimpy:
Well, so much here. I always love the morning wake up snuggles, especially when they include nipple kissage.

As a breast gal, I totally concur!

Yeah, Faith was surprised by their interaction, too. It’ll be fun to see her coach . . and yes, she went to Wimpy’s School of Softball so stay tuned for your ideas!

Cordelia is beyond cruel. She is desperately insecure and actually believes that Willow and Tara are stealing everything from her and that she has to crush them to survive as Queen, BITCH!!! :mad :angry :rage :fit :devil :rage :devilish

Glad to provide a ‘vision’ to brighten your day! *smirk*

Rick AKA willowtaralover:
Sorry about softball stuff! I’ll try to put together some basics on the game without getting too detailed. I’ll do it on or before the big game. They’ve already played two games and each team has won a game. So the upcoming game is the tie breaker!

What an evil fucking bitch. Pardon the swearing but it’s the best phrase to sum that girl up. I know and understand Tara is teaching her alternatives but I sincerely hope that Veronica beats the living snot out of Kelly for picking on Mouse.

What can I say? This one’s for you!

Hmmm. Wow, what a deliciously erotic way to start the chapter. And the day, And that’s even before Tara gets started on Willow.

:pinky :party :pinky Glad you liked it, definitely better than an alarm clock!

Glad you liked Faith and Mouse. Mouse was picking oatmeal because it reminded her of her Mom and she could hear her mom’s voice nagging her to eat it. She missed her mom so she ate the oatmeal. Makes sense when you’re four, okay!

just so angry at SuperMutt and WonderBitch picking on Tara that if I say anything it’ll all just be cuss words. However, I am expecting blood to be shed over this bullying. Fucking bitches. See, I told ya.

Nice to see the Doggie Duo getting bollockings for cruelty to Tara and then for cheating on the softball game.

AND they definitely deserve it!

Yeah, Willow is having a riding and a singing experience next! :pray :pray :pray

And thanks for the W/T birthday wish! With a woo and a hoo on that one! :bounce

Shelby AKA Finey_McFine:
Hey, an early birthday wish! How cool is that!!! :dumbo :pinky :dumbo

Responding to Tara’s thought that Willow is ashamed of her stutter:
Here we go...they truly are the Queens of the misunderstandings! Lol

Truer words were never spoken! *sigh*

And your GREAT idea to resolve Cordelia’s cruelty:
CORDELIA: What a f*cking Bitch! Why can't this be one of those camps where the serial killer comes and kills the popular girl? Huh? Why?

Well . . . Angel would be out a receptionist, but let’s not rule it out! :laugh :lmao :rofl

Glad the Carly/Faith/W/T friendship works – more of Faith as a coach in upcoming posts!

Another fantastic idea, you’re on a roll, girlfriend!
Great chapter! Looking forward to the one when they tie Cordy to a tree, cover her with honey and let the ants take over! Soon right??

BlondCavalier:

Yay!!! Birthday wishes! :pinky :party :pinky

loved the romantic way you began the chapter, and then followed it with the Blanket Monster and the Tickle Monster! Ha Ha!

Thanks! I always felt that love and laughter go together. So does my wife: when I make love to her, she laughs!

So glad you liked Faith and Mouse together and yes, Mouse will get great riding lessons! Stay tuned . . .

I can't believe Cordelia and Harmony! They were so HORRIBLE to Tara I wanted to personally get revenge on them myself! Grrrgh! Arrggh! I really hope they get their come-uppance!

Several VERY creative/scary ideas on that! Check out Zampsa, Maggie, SMGOVAN, Jessica, and Shelby for a small sampling!

I love what Willow said about light being waves or particles - that's a beautiful response to Tara's question and I hope Tara realizes that despite what those jerks Cordelia and Harmony say, Willow really does love her and she doesn't embarrass her.

:flower Yeah, I think science and love can definitely go together!

All in all, well done, great job, and can't wait to read more (including about the upcoming talent show!

:clap :clap :clap right back at you! And yes, here is a bit of TALENT SHOW! Enjoy!

Part 34: Willow’s Debut

Willow sat back on a hay bale and leaned against a support post while Tara leaned back against her. Willow put her chin on Tara’s shoulder and turned her head, seeing her lover’s smile crook up on the left then flash across her face like sunrise. They both snuggled in and pressed their cheeks against each other, feeling each other’s smile warm against their skin.

It was a long, quiet, lovely moment.

Then Willow slid her arms around Tara’s waist, pulling her back so that Willow’s breath tickled the stray hairs across Tara’s ear and made the taller girl shiver deliciously.

“Are you done with the ‘I stutter and you’re ashamed of me’ stuff?”

Tara swallowed, and then nodded before she turned to kiss Willow’s cheek.

“Good! Because I was done with it before it even came up!” She nuzzled her lips against Tara’s earlobe, “I love you, doofus.”

Tara dropped her eyes, but her smile got even bigger as she snuggled back into Willow’s warmth. “Love you, Willow,” she answered softly.

Then someone said, “And I love you both, too!”

They sprang apart, nearly falling off the hay bale as they staggered to their feet, only to see Faith grinning at them. “Sorry for the heart attack! But I pounded the barn door and didn’t get an answer so I slipped in through the loose board in the back!” She smirked, “So, Red, how’s the riding lesson coming?”

Willow stood up, putting a hand on her hip in an attempt at nonchalance. “I was just about to jump on Arrow for a quick ride since you already saddled him,” she checked her watch quickly, “but the kids or due any minute so—“

Faith cut her off. “Hey, no worries! Mrs. Finch is going on forever about the camp show rehearsal tomorrow so hop on!”

Willow swallowed; somehow a softball had gotten stuck in her throat, making it hard to talk. “’Hop on’?” she repeated weakly. Faith gave her a cheerful clap on the back and she staggered into Tara who put her arms around her.

“W-willow, you don’t h-have to ride Arrow until you’re ready.”

Faith laughed, “Yeah, kid. If you’re too scared then you shouldn’t go for it.”

Willow straightened. “I’m not scared,” she said stiffly.

“What’s with your face?”

Willow blushed, “This is my ‘resolve face’ which means I am getting up on that horse! Come on, Tara, help me lead him over.”

Tara shot Faith a glare which Faith returned with an innocent shrug; then Tara led Arrow out into the corral and up to the mounting block.

Faith perched on the top rail of the fence. “Don’t wanna miss the show!”

Tara shot her another glare, and then turned to Willow who was standing next to her on the mounting block. “W-willow, you don’t have to do this!”

Willow looked at Faith who grinned back at her. “Oh yes I do!”

Tara sighed. “Okay, then relax.”

“Let’s skip that step, it’s not happening.”

“Then put your left foot in the stirrup and swing your other leg over and put your other foot in the stirrup, keep your heels pointed down towards the ground. I’ll walk Arrow around the corral.”

Willow whispered, “He has big teeth. Has he ever—“

“N-no, sweetie. He’s never eaten anyone. He’s a very gentle and smart horse. Faith trained him herself.”

Willow gave a jerky nod then put her left hand on the saddle horn and her right on the back edge of the saddle just as Faith crunched into an apple.

Suddenly Arrow began walking towards Faith with a panicked Willow hanging sideways from the saddle, her toes just above the ground.

“W-willow, it’s okay. Just let go.”

Willow’s arms were rigid. “Tell my hands that! They aren’t listening!”

Faith was laughing good-naturedly at Willow’s difficulty. “Hey, Red you’re only about an inch off the ground. Let go.”

But Willow’s hands and arms were locked in place and Tara hurried over to wrap her arms around Willow’s waist and lift her up. “Let go, sweetie. I’ve got you!”

Willow’s hands finally released their death grip on the saddle and she sagged in Tara’s arms while Arrow happily crunched up the remainder of Faith’s apple.

Tara eased Willow’s feet onto the ground, still holding her tight. “Are you okay, sweetie?”

Willow’s hyper-ventilating was slowing down and she gave a stiff flap of the hand that was supposed to be a confident wave. “F-fine, Tara. N-never better!”

She took a step away from Tara and her legs buckled. Tara jumped forward to catch her and hold her close.

Willow blushed then swallowed. “So why don’t we just stand here awhile and enjoy the view?”

Tara smiled, wrapped her arms even tighter around Willow and gave her a soft kiss. “Fine,” she looked into Willow’s eyes, “I love the view.”

Willow met Tara’s eyes, feeling her lover’s breath soft and warm against her face. She grinned and pressed closer to Tara, feeling her lover’s arousal. Poinky power activate! Suddenly she grinned and stood on her own. She glanced sheepishly at Tara and Faith. “I think it’s stall-mucky time.” She walked off, still wobbling a little and Tara turned fiercely on Faith.

“H-how could you d-do that! M-make fun of her and push h-her into r-riding when she w-wasn’t ready!”

Faith’s grin slid off her face. “Hey, T. I was just trying to get her to do it, push her a little. I figured she’d get going and it would be okay.”

Their eyes locked and Tara’s softened. She knew Faith had tried to help. “So w-why did you laugh?”

Faith shrugged helplessly, “Come on, T. It was pretty damn funny!” She stifled the snorts of laughter on her sleeve, “And Arrow, I trained him with apples, so he walked over and she just hung off him like a baby possum!” Faith was overcome with hilarity and finally jumped down off the fence and laughed hard enough to slide down to the ground.

Tara rolled her eyes and gave her one more exasperated look that edged slowly into a faint smile. Then she headed into the barn to saddle Midnight. She turned back after a few steps, “F-faith?” She blushed, “Y-you don’t usually walk in on us. W-was something—“

“Hell, T! I forgot to tell you, Mrs. Finch told everybody about Willow’s voice being so great. Willow’s going to sing during lunch today.”

Faith saw Tara gasp. “Can’t sing, huh?”

Tara nodded.

“Shit!”

Tara nodded again.

Faith looked over her shoulder at the sound of their first group approaching. “Look, T. I’ll take care of these guys, saddle up Midnight and get ‘em to help bring the horses out and stuff. You go talk to Red. Maybe you can help her out.”

Tara sighed, “Thanks.”

Faith nodded and offered a small smile, then turned to greet the kids.

*************************************************

Mouse sat close to Veronica in crafts, her small face tense with worry as she picked at a blob of dried glue on the table. “So I ran back to you for an extra hug. Was Kelly right? Am I a cry baby?”

“No!” Veronica gave her Mouse a hard, tight hug and felt a surge of fury at Kelly’s attack on her friend. She turned to glare at Kelly, noticing that the bigger girl was heading out the door. Veronica jumped up quickly to follow her as Kelly headed into the bathroom and closed the stall door behind her.

Veronica knocked loudly on the door.

“Use the next one, dummy!”

Veronica knocked again.

“I said, ‘use the next one’ or I’m gonna pound you, you stupid freak!” Kelly finished then pushed open the door and gave her zipper a final tug. She glared at Veronica, “What do you want?

“This!” Then Veronica stepped in and shoved Kelly hard in the chest.

Kelly staggered back, clutched wildly at the toilet paper dispenser, and fell butt-first into the toilet.

Veronica enjoyed the sight of Kelly’s legs waving helplessly in the air while the bigger girl remained jammed in the toilet.

“Get me out of here, Veronica! Get me outta here right now! Or—“

Veronica grinned unpleasantly, “Or what?”

Kelly wracked her brains, “Or I’ll tell Cordelia!” she finished triumphantly.

Veronica yawned. “She’s my cousin, you know.”

Kelly winced. She paused, laboriously thinking through her options. “Uh Veronica?”

Veronica grinned, enjoying herself hugely. “Yeah?”

“Would you get me out of here?”

Veronica pretended to think it over.

“Please get me out of here.”

Veronica reached her hand out to Kelly then snatched it back at the last moment. “My glue!” she said breathlessly. “It’s almost dry and I have to put my beans on the cottage cheese lid to make my picture. My cousin hates it when you waste glue.” She started to turn away.

Kelly whimpered, “Please, Veronica! My legs hurt!”

Veronica turned back slowly. “Sure!” Veronica reached out her hand then snatched it back again. “See you after crafts are over!” She started to walk away then heard Kelly starting to cry and turned back.

“Okay! I’m gonna get you out!” She stepped closer, towering over her trapped foe. “But if you say one more mean thing to Mouse or do one more mean thing to Mouse then I’ll really let you have it!

“Okay! Okay, I promise! But let me out!”

She extended her hand a third time then ended up having to brace both feet against the bottom of the toilet and tug with all her might as a dripping Kelly emerged from her prison.

Veronica wrinkled her nose. “Next time flush the toilet! You stink like pee!” But Kelly was blubbering too hard to respond to Veronica’s advice and ran off to her cabin to change.

Veronica smiled and washed her hands fastidiously: the very picture of a happy little girl. Then she went back to sit by Mouse.

“Where did you go, Veronica?”

“I had to go to the bathroom.” She patted Mouse on the shoulder and smiled at her little friend, “Don’t worry about Kelly any more, okay?”

Mouse snuggled up to Veronica and smiled back. “Okay!”

Willow, meanwhile had been pacing behind the barn, contemplating her choices. Okay, I’ve narrowed it down to a) fake my own death b) hide c) run away d) throw up or e) all of the above. She looked inward at her overwhelming desire to disappear, maybe forever, and the nervousness that made her feel sick to her stomach. She nodded resolutely, e) all of the above.

She drew a deep breath, Wait! Maybe someone knows the song and can help me! Carly! She lives here! Willow began a staggering run to Carly’s house which was nearby.

Mr. Macready walked out on to the porch, shading his eyes against the morning sun and smiling. “Willow? What brings you here in a hip and a hurry on this fine, bright day?”

“Me. Mrs. Finch. Song, have to sing, “The Girl That I Marry” at lunch!”

He whistled. “Not that old chestnut! Never fancied it much!”

“Me neither! But I have to sing it at lunch,” Willow said breathlessly. “In front of Mrs. Finch and everybody and I don’t even know it!”

He whistled again. “Well, I’m no hand at reading music.”

“That’s okay, I left the music in my cabin anyway!”

He noticed her nervousness. “But I’m a dab hand at pickin’ by ear. Let me get this old banjo fired up. Dorrie puts that song in the show just about every year, so I know it fine. Don’t fret, I’ll teach it to you right now.”

Willow breathed a sigh of relief, slumping against a porch post until Mr. Macready returned with his banjo in his hand and a stool for her to sit on. They got right to work with Mr. Macready going over the song and Willow doing her best to imitate him. When the lunch bell rang, she had been so focused on memorizing the words and melody that she had forgotten to be frightened. She stood up slowly, feeling the fear rush back over her, then said a hasty good-bye and raced for the bathroom, grateful not to be sick.

She left the bathroom and glared angrily up at the calm blue sky. Why is there never an alien abduction when you need one! Does the French Foreign Legion take girls? Okay, a heart attack or a seizure, a little one, just enough to get me out of singing! She sighed. I hate being healthy! She smiled grimly, Don’t worry, you’ll be dying of embarrassment any minute! She continued her death march to humiliation and met Tara on the porch.

Tara took one look at Willow’s white face and pulled her into a tight embrace and patted her back gently. “It will be okay, Willow.” Then Tara took a deep breath, “I could stand next to you, if you w-want.”

Willow stepped back, realizing how much it had cost her shy lover to make that offer. She squeezed Tara’s hands with her own cold fingers and managed a small smile, “Hey, I’ve been a laughed at as a dork for years, how much worse can this be?” She gave Tara a quick, hard hug and whispered, “Thanks,” before stepping back.

Mrs. Finch hurried over. “Everyone is seated, Willow! Time for your debut!”

Willow looked back once more at Tara, then turned and marched to certain doom as Mrs. Finch took the mike which had been set up.

“Counselors and campers, we have a very special treat in store for us! Willow Rosenberg, the star of her high school music program, has consented to sing ‘The Girl That I Marry’ for us.” She beamed proudly at Willow who returned a sickly smile. “Of course Willow is just learning the song, but it will be a highlight of the show and I know she’ll set the bar for musical excellence right here and now!” She turned to Mrs. Gidden, who was sitting at the piano with the sheet music ready and gave the signal to begin.

The first nightmare came immediately. Willow had never heard the introduction and had no idea when to start singing. She shot Mrs. Gidden a look of helpless terror as Mrs. Gidden played the same opening bars three times while waiting for Willow’s entrance.

Mrs. Finch stepped up and hissed angrily, “You really should have rehearsed this! I’ll nudge you when it’s time to start!” On the fourth time around on the introduction, she gave Willow a sharp elbow in the ribs and Willow gave a strangled shriek of pain as the first word of the song. Next Willow realized that she had learned the song imitating a man’s voice and the sheet music had been transposed to a much higher key. She went through every key on the ring, ending up with sharps and flats which were never, even once, where they should have been in the song. Meanwhile Cordelia, Harmony, and their cabin led the laugh-fest and Willow was actually grateful, fondly hoping it might drown out her singing.

As she ended with a desperate, screeching attempt to hit a high note, she finally bent over gasping with her hands on her knees and felt the strained silence that greeted her efforts. It wasn’t comedy, it wasn’t funny. It was painful. Most of them liked her and were embarrassed for her. She felt their pity and felt tears swimming in her eyes.

Mrs. Finch glared at Cordelia. “Why in the world did you tell me she has a good voice! This is my favorite song and she butchered it, simply butchered it!” She pressed her hand over her heart dramatically, “The Muse of Music weeps at this horror! It’s a desecration, it’s Broadway blasphemy!” She turned furiously on Willow, “You don’t deserve to sing this song!”

Willow straightened quickly, feeling a surge of hope. “That’s it! I don’t deserve it and I don’t have a voice, I mean I do, yes, have a voice. In the sense that I inhale and produce vibrations on the air that are sound and are understood as words, but I don’t have a singing voice! I never have!” She knew better than to show anything but a ‘positive attitude’ to Mrs. Finch. “Cordelia was just joking, Mrs. Finch! Ha, ha!” She laughed weakly.

Cordelia jumped to her feet triumphantly. “No, Mrs. Finch! It’s an act! Willow is so good that she gets paid extra for singing at school!”

Mrs. Finch stared at Cordelia, “I find that very hard to believe.”

“Look,” Cordelia said eagerly. “See, poking out of her pocket! A hundred dollar bill that says, ‘A reward for your good work’ across the bottom of it! I was there when the chorus director gave it to her! Right Harmony?”

Harmony nodded eagerly.

“Willow! Pull that bill out of your pocket!”

Willow obeyed. Both her and Mrs. Finch read the words Cordelia had mentioned. Willow stared helplessly at the writing. Her parents must have given it to her for making the Honor Roll. But that’s a lie, Mrs. Finch!”

“Is it? Then where did you get a hundred dollars?”

Gambling on a kids softball game? Wrong answer! Her mind raced like a hamster on a wheel and she got exactly no where.

Mrs. Finch took her silence for an admission of guilt and flushed with anger. “Willow Rosenberg! You may be some kind of demented diva in your high school, but there is no bribery here at Camp Pine Ridge! You will sing to your full ability tomorrow evening and you will continue to sing until you decide to join the team and do your best!”

Willow felt a dull surge of anger as she stared at Mrs. Finch’s flushed face. Hey, if I went all kill-y crazy then she couldn’t make me sing! Do they make you sing in prison? She tried to think logically. No Tara snuggles and smoochies in the big house! Her shoulders slumped in defeat and she walked towards their table and sat down.

Devola was impressed, “Wow, Willow that’s the worst singing I ever heard! Did you do it on purpose?”

Willow forced her lips into a passable imitation of a smile. “Yeah, yeah I did.”

Everyone sighed with relief. Then Tara slid an arm around her waist and pulled her close.

DIBS!!

My poor Willow!! :gnome :fit :thud

"The Muse of Music weeps at this horror. It's a desecration, a Broadway blasphemy. You don't deserve to sing this song"
:rofl :rofl :rofl That's hysterical!!

Hey, I've got news for you Mrs F. - NOBODY deserves to sing that song - it's a turkey from hell and a laughingstock of Broadway showtunes (and this from someone who loves them!) And then for Cordelia to come along and screw things up again with more lies, it makes me wish she should get stuck with an even more ridiculous song if you can think of one. You should think of something totally humiliating to happen to Cordy in the actual show (ha ha!) :yikes

I also felt for Willow when she was riding Arrow and he walked toward Faith and she couldn't let go of the saddle and she was one inch off the ground. Ha! Hopefully with Tara's help she gets a little less afraid of horses as time goes by. Maybe they can spend a little more time together "petting Dolly" :wtkiss

It's really cool how Veronica is sticking up for Mouse! I loved the scene where she pushed Kelly in the toilet! :lmao

A great, very funny, update

:kgeek :grin
