Part 18

Willow sat in the emegency room dangling her feet over the edge of the doctor's table. She was furious that they wouldn't let her stay with Tara while she was treated. Instead the hospital insisted that she have her injuries looked at. She was waiting for the doctor to return with the X-rays of her left wrist. She didn't care that it might be broken, because it was all worth it knowing that she still had Tara. She wished she could have absorbed more of the blows for her. Willow was assuming they would admit Tara to the hospital because of her ribs, but she didn't know and it was killing her.

"What is taking so damn long?" Willow asked out loud to no one.

"And I was just gonna ask how you were doing," Buffy said coming into the exam room.

"I'm fine. How's Tara? You didn't leave her alone did you? She doesn't like to be left alone," Willow said.

"No, Will, she's fine. My mom and Dawn are with her. They're gonna keep her here over night," Buffy said. "I'm here to take you to her when you're finished. She's been asking for you."

"Let's go," Willow said jumping off the table.

"You're not done yet," Buffy said stopping Willow.

"I don' t care. If Tara wants me, I'm going to her," Willow said breaking free from Buffy. Just as she reached the door, the doctor came through.

"Where do you think you're going?" The doctor asked stopping Willow. "We have to put a cast on that wrist."

"We can do it later. I have to go," Willow said trying to move past the doctor.

"Will, come on. Let the man do his job. Tara's gonna want you all fixed up when she sees you. The more you cooperate, the faster it will go," Buffy said trying to talk some sense into her best friend.

"Fine, but this better not take long," Willow said jumping back up onto the table.

"How are you feeling?" Giles asked coming into Tara's room, giving Dawn and Joyce a break.

"Where's Willow?" Tara needed to see her. They had separated them as soon as they arrived at the hospital, despite their protests. She wanted to know that Willow was okay, and that Donnie hadn't hurt her.

"She's still getting patched up," Giles said.

"Is she okay?" Tara asked her voice barely above a whisper. She was almost afraid to ask the question.

"Yes, I believe it's just her wrist that got damaged. She should be here shortly," Giles said. "That was quite a speech she gave. How long have you been engaged?"

"About a month," Tara said. "Are you upset that we didn't tell you?"

"No, that is, unless I was the last to know," Giles said smiling at her. He had grown quite fond of her since their first meeting at the barbecue. They had numerous discussions about the magickal texts she had.

"No, we weren't sure when we were going to tell everyone," Tara said. "How long have you been seeing Mrs. Summers?"

"What? Well. How did you know?"

"I'm a people reader," Tara said. "So how long?"

"There was an incident with candy, when Buffy and Willow were seniors in high school, I'm not sure if Willow told you. It's been since then. I guess that makes it over a year."

"Yes, I was informed about the band candy," Tara said giggling. "How you guys don't tell Buffy and Dawn?"

"I'm not sure they're ready to hear it," Giles said.

"Tara," Willow said rushing into the room.

"I'll leave you two alone," Giles said standing up and exiting the room.

"Your arm," Tara said motioning to the cast on Willow's left wrist.

"It's just a little broken," Willow said scooting into the bed gingerly.

"It's a nice cast," Tara said.

"Blue like your eyes," Willow said. "How are you?"

"A few broken ribs, nothing that won't heal," Tara said.

"Am I hurting you?" Willow asked afraid that her being in the bed with Tara might be causing the blonde some pain.

"Never," Tara said easing closer to Willow. "I don't know what I would have done if my brother had..."

"Don't even think about it," Willow said. "It didn't happen, and even if it had it wouldn't have been your fault. It was my fault. I couldn't do anything. I have all these spells in my head that are supposed to protect me, protect you, and I couldn't do anything. I just kept trying to get to you, and the spells wouldn't come."

"It would have been my fault. They wouldn't have even been here if it wasn't for me," Tara said crying.

"Yeah, and if it wasn't for you Dawn would still be up in her room, and I would be lonely, miserable, and depressed," Willow said. "And let's not forget that I wasn't exactly cooperation gal. I didn't listen to you when you told me to leave, and I certainly didn't listen to your father. So it's way more my fault than it is yours. Way more."

"Why do you always treat me so special?"

"Goddesses deserve special treatment," Willow said kissing Tara on the forehead.

"They sent me in to find out if we could come in," Dawn said. "I guess they figured you guys wouldn't yell at a little kid."

"A little kid," Tara said. "You're practically a grown woman."

"Everyone can come in," Willow said smiling, seeing Dawn's beaming face at Tara's comment.

"It's safe," Dawn called out the door.

"We're all getting ready to go home for the night," Xander said. "Is there anything we can get you first?"

"No I'm fine," Tara said. "You guys should all go and get a good nights rest. Thank you for helping me, and saving Willow."

"It's not something you have to say thank you for," Anya said. "I know that much about how friends work."

"Will, are you gonna ride with me and Riley?" Buffy asked.

"I'm not going anywhere."

"You can't spend the night here," Joyce said.

"Sure I can," Willow said.

"Miss, you're gonna have to get out of the bed," the nurse said coming in to check on Tara.

"Why?" Tara asked.

"Because it's hospital policy," the nurse said.

"Can I spend the night in the chair?" Willow asked not wanting to leave Tara's room.

"I'm afraid not," the nurse said as politely as possible.

"You can't' make her leave," Buffy said in Willow's defense.

"Buffy it's not her fault," Tara said. "She doesn't write hospital policy."

"But she will be here all night, and she could over look hospital policy so that two people who just went through something very traumatic could be together tonight," Dawn said joining her sister in the defense of Willow and Tara.

"I'll take all the blame if we get caught," Willow said pleading with the nurse.

"I saw nothing, I know nothing," the nurse said exiting the room.

"Do you always get your way?" Tara asked.

"98.4% of the time," Willow said. "I calculated it."

"We're outta here. Call us if you need anything," Buffy said ushering everyone out of the room.

"Good night best friend," Anya called as Buffy pushed her through the door.

"Alone at last," Willow said.

"If it wasn't a hospital and I didn't have three broken ribs I would take advantage of the situation," Tara said.

"To tell you the truth, for once I'm not looking for romance. I just want to curl up next to you and go to sleep," Willow said snuggling up next to Tara as best she could without hurting her.

"That sounds plenty romantic to me," Tara said closing her eyes and letting herself drift off to sleep in the safety of Willow's arms.

Wow excellent update, I loved Tara calling for Willow and Willow desperately trying to get to Tara. It was funny that Tara knew about Giles and Joyce. :) Willow not wanting to leave was cute and you gotta love Dawn and Buffy sticking up for her. :)

Part 19

"Is everything ready?" Tara called down to Willow.

"The snacks are out, the movies are ready, the entire apartment has been sanitized," Willow said sitting down on the couch in Giles' apartment, "yeah, I'd say everything's ready but you."

"I'm ready. I'm just making sure I look okay," Tara called down. "I still haven't figured out why we're throwing our own bridal shower/bachelorette party. Shouldn't my maid of honor and your maid of honor and best man be doing this?"

"Do you really want to go to a party where two thirds of the host are Xander and Anya? We'd probably have ended up with more strippers than guests."

"Okay I see your point," Tara said coming down the stairs. "How do I look?"

"Gorgeous," Willow said moving off the sofa and coming over to where Tara stood by the kitchen wall. "Do you have any idea how good your butt looks in jeans?"

"I can guess by the way your hands are moving," Tara said. "Willow people are coming over," Tara said trying to back away from Willow's adventerous hands, but only succeeding in backing herself into the wall.

"Then I definitely shouldn't have my hands up your shirt, and I shouldn't be kissing you like this either," Willow said kissing Tara deeply, and pushing her leg up, in between Tara's.

"Save it for the honeymoon," Dawn said coming through the front door with gift in hand.

"You have the worst timing," Willow said dropping her head down onto Tara's shoulder.

"Tell me about it," Buffy said. "She does that to me and Riley all the time."

"Well, if you guys learned how to lock a door," Dawn said plopping down on the sofa. "Cool doritos."

"Have you ever heard of knocking?" Buffy said flopping down next to her sister.

"No sisterly squabbles at our party," Willow said. "Where is Riley?"

"Work," Dawn said.

"I believe she was asking me," Buffy said. "He had to work."

"And Xander and Anya?" Tara asked straightening her shirt and moving away from the wall.

"They're having a quickie in the back seat."

"Dawn!" Buffy said.

"What they are," Dawn said in her defense. Just then Xander and Anya walked in looking a bit disheveled, and the four girls burst out laughing.

"What? What'd I miss?" Xander asked trying to assess the situation.

"Nothing," Willow said snuggling up with Tara in an arm chair. "Are you guys ready for the vidfest?" Willow asked as Xander and Anya settled onto one end of the sofa with Buffy on the other end and Dawn in the middle.

"Can I be remote control guy?" Xander asked excitedly.

"If it makes you that happy, sure," Willow said tossing Xander the remote. "You can also be the get up and change the movie guy."

"Now that Giles is back early for the wedding where are you guys gonna stay?" Buffy asked stealing the bowl of doritos from Dawn.

"Hey," Dawn said.

"We can move into the dorms in a couple weeks. I guess we'll just have a long honey moon," Willow said.

"You're gonna stay in a hotel?" Anya asked.

"Yup," Tara said.

"Guys I'm trying to watch a movie here," Xander said.

"You're that interested in Can't Hardly Wait?" Buffy asked.

"We rented this one for Dawnie," Willow said.

"He likes Jennifer Love Hewitt. Sometimes we play..."

"That's enough An," Xander said clamping his hand over her mouth.

"No Xander, that was more than enough," Willow said as the room burst out with laughter.

"See that wasn't so bad," Willow said leaning back on the front door after everyone left.

"And we got presents," Tara said carrying the gifts up to the bedroom so they could pack them with the rest of their stuff. They had packed everything up except their clothes for the wedding. Tara sat down on the end of the bed and looked at the two dresses hanging on the door of the armoire. They both decided on simple dresses for the ceremony instead of wedding gowns because the ceremony itself was very informal. Giles would be presiding over it, and it would be only their close friends in attendance. Pretty much the same people that were there for the party, with the inclusion of Joyce and Giles and some friends from school. Just a simple ceremony to share their commitment to each other with their friends. It was going to be held in the field where they first declared their love for one another. Tara thought back to that day and how she kept trying to remind herself that they were just friends, and how it was just a picnic. Then Willow said she was beautiful, soon to be followed by them both saying I love you to one another. Tara wiped away the tear that slipped down her cheek.

"What are you thinking about?" Willow asked sitting down next to Tara on the bed.

"I was just thinking about us, and the wedding tomorrow," Tara said. "I'm glad we didn't wait."

"Me too," Willow said taking Tara's hand. "After everything that happened it just didn't make sense. I need you so much, I can't believe I ever thought I could wait three years to marry you."

"I know," Tara said stroking the back of Willow's hand. "This is our last night as single women, any wild oats you need to sow?" Tara asked trying to break the seriousness of the moment, not wanting to remember the brief stay in the hospital almost a month ago when her father had returned. It was then that they decided to wed this summer.

"I can think of few," Willow said tackling Tara back on to the bed.

And as always I leave you to use your imaginations for what happened next.

"Buffy are you okay?" Willow asked. Buffy had been hugging her and crying for the last ten minutes.

"I'm fine. It's just the ceremony was so beautiful, and you're so grown up, all married," Buffy said sniffling. "I'm just so happy for you," she said hugging Willow again.

"Help," Willow said as Xander walked by.

"Hey Buffy, why don't we go and get some punch, or some cake, or something else? Let Willow go," Xander said pulling Buffy away from Willow. As soon as Willow was free of Buffy, Dawn wrapped her arms around her.

"Not you too," Willow said.

"I'm not going to be as bad as Buffy," Dawn said pulling away. "I promise. I'm so happy for you. I hope that I find someone like Tara some day, only a boy cause I like them. Not, you know, that there's anything wrong with you not liking them, because you know I don't care. I really like Tara, just not that way."

"Is that what I sound like?" Willow asked cutting off Dawn's babble before it got any worse.

"Yes," Tara said coming up behind Willow.

"I'm babbling like Willow now?" Dawn said. "It could be worse, I could be acting like Buffy."

"I really sound like that?" Willow asked once Dawn walked away.

"Yes, and I find it adorable," Tara said. "She's a lot like you."

"I guess she is. I like to think of her as my little sister too," Willow said. "This day has been so great. I got the marry the most wonderful woman in the entire world surrounded by all my friends. There's only one thing that could have made this day any better," Willow said.

"What's that?" Tara asked even though she already knew the answer.

"My parents," Willow said frowning slightly. She had been determined not to let their absence ruin this special day.

"I know you really wanted them to be here," Tara said.

"I really did," Willow said. "I thought if they knew how serious we were, and that we were getting married, they would change their mind. I don't even know what my dad thinks about all this. I don't even know if my mom told him."

"Go ask, he's right over there," Tara said pointing to the edge of the field. She had seen him come in during the ceremony and recognized his face from the picture Willow had shown her.

"What do I say?" Willow asked.

"Just say what you feel," Tara said.

Willow walked slowly over to where her father stood. He was looking everywhere, but at her, much the same way Willow was looking everywhere, but at him, but she knew, he knew she was coming.

"You came," Willow said when she had reached her father.

"I couldn't miss my little girl's wedding," he said.

"You missed everything else," Willow said. "So how long have you been standing here?"

"I got here right before the I do's," Ira said fidgeting almost as bad as his daughter. "I know I haven't always been there. I'm sorry," he didn't know what else he could say to her. "I'm sorry your mother couldn't come. She just..."

"I know," Willow said on the verge of tears. Her father reached out and pulled her into a hug.

"I've been waiting to do that for a long time," he said. "I love you so much, and I am so very proud of you," he said releasing his daughter.

"I've waited my whole life to hear that," Willow said drying her eyes. "You would think it would have felt better, but one day won't make up for everything."

"I know," Ira said turning to leave.

"Don't you want to meet her?" Willow asked.

"I'd love to," Mr. Rosenburg said.

Willow turned to where she and Tara had been standing by their tree and found Tara still standing there watching her. Willow motioned Tara over, and Tara walked to where they stood with her head down.

"Dad, this is Tara," Willow said, saying Tara's name reverently.

"Hi," Tara said lifting her head to meet his gaze and extending her hand. "It's nice to meet you." He moved Tara's hand away and pulled her into a hug.

"You treat my daughter good," he said.

"I will," Tara said smiling.

"I hate to leave so suddenly, but I have a business trip," Ira said hugging his daughter one last time. "I'll call you when I get back, we can have dinner."

"I think my father is a pod person," Willow said once he left.

"I think he just loves you, and he's finally figuring out how to tell you," Tara said wrapping her arms around Willow.

"Maybe you're right, but it still seems strange after all those years without it," Willow said.

"I can imagine it would," Tara said. "You know I'm having a lot of fun here, but I think I would be having more fun if we left."

"You don't have to ask me twice," Willow said dragging Tara back to where everyone was gathered at the refreshment table.

"We're leaving," Willow said. "Xander keys?"

"Can I talk to you first?" Xander asked moving toward Willow.

"Sure," Willow said releasing Tara's hand and following Xander away from the crowd.

"Big day," he said smiling at his best friend. "It's official now, you're all growed up."

"You don't sound happy," Willow said.

"I'm more than happy. I used to imagine this day when we were little, only I was marrying you, not your best man," Xander said. "Not that I'd want to change anything. I love Anya and I'm glad you found Tara. I just thought we'd be a lot older when all this stuff happened."

"Me too, but love is a funny thing," Willow said. "I'm not leaving you. I mean you know about the surprise since you helped and all. I'm still here, still your Willow," she said hugging him.

"I know," Xander said drying his eyes before the tears fell, and it could actually be considered crying. "Here," he said handing Willow the keys to his car. "Go have fun, and then you can call and tell me all about it."

"Thank you for everything," Willow said as they made their way back to their friends. "Are you ready?" Willow asked Tara.

"Yeah. I just want to say thank you to everyone for everything you've done for me," Tara said. "You went above and beyond your duty as Willow's friends."

"We're not just Willow's friends," Buffy said putting her arm around Tara.

"Yeah, we're your family," Xander said joining Buffy in what turned out to be a giant group hug even Giles got in on.

"Okay, enough with the mushiness we're leaving," Willow said.

"Bye guys," Tara called as Willow pulled her toward the car.

"You have to close your eyes," Willow said once they were both seat belted into the car.

"Why? I thought we were just going to the hotel," Tara said knowing that she had booked the room herself.

"I have a surprise for you, so close your eyes," Willow said.

"When can I open them?" Tara asked.

"When I tell you to, and not a second sooner, or you'll ruin the surprise," Willow said. "Don't worry this won't take long."

"This is a good surprise? You're not taking me somewhere just to dump me, right?" Tara asked only half joking. She still felt that all this was just some incredibly vivid dream, and she might wake up any second and have it all gone.

"Never. I promise you're going to love the surprise," Willow said.

"Is it bigger than a bread box?" Tara asked.

"I'm not going to play twenty questions with you," Willow said. Tara was always so cute when she tried to surprise her. Just like a little kid shaking the presents at Christmas time, which is why Willow found it so fun to do things like this. "Now no more questions. Just sit back and enjoy the ride, or what's left of it, because we're almost there."

"I can't enjoy the ride with my eyes closed," Tara said. "Maybe I could just take a little, teeny, tiny peek?"

"No peeking," Willow said taking her eyes off the road momentarily to check and make sure Tara's eyes were still indeed closed. "I should have brought a blind fold."

"That could have been fun," Tara said wishing she could see the expression on Willow's face.

"I guess fun could have been had later with it," Willow said smiling, knowing Tara was just trying to get back at her for the whole surprise thing.

"Willow," Tara said blushing furiously.

"You're the one who brought it up," Willow said in her defense.

"You're right, I did, but for future reference it was a joke," Tara said.

"We'll see," Willow said stopping the car. "We're here, but you can't open your eyes yet. Just wait here, and I'll come around and help you out," Willow said jumping out of the car and running around to the passenger side. She unfastened Tara's seat belt and took both her hands. "Okay, now careful, and don't forget to duck your head," Willow said as Tara stepped out of the car. "We're coming to some steps, there's three of them. I'll count them off for you. First, second, and there's the third. Okay just stay right there, I have to let go of your hands for a second to get the door."

"You're not gonna leave me outside?" Tara asked as Willow slipped her hands away.

"No, see I'm back already," Willow said taking Tara's hands again. "There's a step up," Willow said leading Tara through the door way and then closing the door behind them.

"Do I get to open my eyes soon? I miss seeing you," Tara asked as Willow moved her forward.

"Now," Willow said. "You can open them now."

Tara slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Willow, fidgeting nervously in front of her. Then her eyes began to take in their surroundings. They were standing in what appeared to be the foyer of a home. It looked abandoned, but clean. The lack of furniture jumped out at Tara immediately. Tara looked to Willow confused.

"I didn't know what to get you for a wedding present, so I got you a house," Willow said.

"What? How?"

"Remember the program I showed you a couple months ago?" Willow asked and Tara nodded yes. "You said it was really good and I should try and sell it. Well I guess you were right because a software company paid me a lot of money for it, and they offered me a job. The best part is I can still go to school. I hope you like it. There's a really nice kitchen, and a formal dining room, a living room, a family room, and an office, and upstairs there's four bedrooms cause you said you wanted to have lots of kids some day. Oh and I remember one time you said at the dorms how you didn't like sharing a bathroom with so many people, so I made sure to buy a house with more than one bathroom. And Buffy's house is only like a five minute walk," Willow said, pausing to take a breath. "I know Cinderella is your favorite movie, and this is no palace like she got, but do you like it?"

Tara had been silent through Willow's speech, absolutely floored that someone would do something like this for her. She didn't know exactly what to say. Happy tears began flowing from her eyes.

"You don't like it," Willow said dismayed.

"No," Tara said reaching for Willow's hands. "It's better than a palace. My whole life I... I dreamed of this, but I never thought it would actually happen. I didn't think I deserved for it to happen. Since I met you my dreams have all been coming true, it's like my own private fairy tale," Tara said.

"Without Prince Charming," Willow added.

"I don't need Prince Charming. All I need is you," Tara said gently kissing Willow.

"Is this how the fairy tale ends?" Willow asked when Tara pulled away.

"No, we still get to live happily ever after."

Go Ira!

And Damn! Buying a house! That is so sweet. But the end? Do you mean like the end of the update, or the end of the story? I hope not, really like it. :(

Very good, that Ira showed up at the wedding.

And Willow bought a house! Wow! :)

Tara:"Maybe we dreamed it."

Willow:"Right. Right. Wrong! (points at her head ) Different Brains." Tara:"Oh yeah."

Very sweet ending ... as with all great fics, I'm saddened that it's over, but so very glad I got to go along for the ride.
