W/T Songfic: Song In My Heart

Postby The SciFi Bard » Fri Mar 22, 2002 8:27 am

I was sitting listening to Ella Fitzgerald one day, and WHAMMO! ~this idea~ just came to me. I'd heard of songfics before, but didn't really know how to do them. This was my first and only attempt at one so far. On an honest personal note, I am on heavy medication for depression at the moment. I forget a lot of things and am pretty spaced most of the time. BUT I do still check and read my e-mail nearly every day, and the lovely comments about my work that everyone has posted on this DCP board have made me smile. So thank you all. Very much.

Hope you all like...

Song In My Heart

* * * * * * * * * * *

(The Bronze, evening)......

~

though I know that we meet every night

and we couldn't have changed since the last time

~

Tara-girl sat next to Willow-girl on the red sofa as they watched everyone else dancing.

It was Saturday, and tonight was the second night in a row that they had come here.

The two wiccans saw each other most nights, usually the redhead would go over to the blondes' dorm and they would cast spells, do homework or just sit up 'till late talking about all sorts of things.

They had so much fun together.

They laughed so much.

They were so *comfortable* around each other.

~

to my joy and delight it's a new kind of love at first sight

~

Tara-girl sighed.

But the music was too loud for the redhead to have heard her and she was glad of it.

She *knew* now that she loved Willow-girl.

Knew she was *in love with* Willow-girl.

And.............

Every time she saw her, she realised with bittersweet certainty that she loved her more.

Every time she looked at her, her joy wanted to spill over like a bath of happy that'd been left to draw too long.

~

though its you and it's I all the time

every meeting's a marvellous pastime

~

Every time they met was like that first electric, magickally-charged, wonderful life-changing moment when they had eluded The Gentlemen in the laundryroom.

And it was *always* best when it was just the two of them.

Just two.

She felt strong then.

Like she could do anything.

Be anything.

Say anything.

~

you're increasingly sweet

so whenever we happen to meet

I greet you

~

Of course she kept that all to herself.

Everytime, greeting the redhead as just a friend, but aching for more.

How she yearned for more.

She looked out of the corner of her eye at Willow-girl who was watching Buffy-girl and Xander-guy dancing to the band.

'Goddess! She's so beautiful! In fact, I think she's *even more* beauitful than she was yesterday!' she happily Tara-reasoned to herself.

But then the Tara-doubts returned.

'Why does she keep on asking me to come here with her? She hardly ever gets up to dance. It must be so boring for her here with me ...'

Willow-girl then turned and bestowed a radiant smile upon the blonde.

Tara-doubts flew away instantly as the redhead held her gaze.

She never really even regestered Willow-girl had taken a Tara-hand and was now leading her to the dancefloor.

She was lost in those green eyes, turned-grey, bewitching, sparkling in the dim light.

~

with a song in my heart

I behold your adorable face

~

The music had slowed somewhat and was much more sway-ey, not so boppy.

The blonde passed a grinning Buffy-girl and Xander-guy as they walked back to the sofa.

Tara-girl then realised that *she* was no longer *on* the sofa!

She looked around, slightly startled that she'd been in such a Willow-haze.

"But Willow, I can't danc..."

The sentence was never finished, as Willow-finger came up and rested upon a Tara-lip, wiccan-eyes smiling into wiccan-eyes.

"Ssssh...just mooove to the music Tara, it's really easy. See?"

~

just a song at the start

but it soon is a hymn to your grace

~

Tara-watched as Willow-moved to the music.

Moved sooooooo Willow-hypnotically.

So gracefully.

She could *never* move like that.

Willow-girl would laugh at her.

The one *she loved* would laugh at her.

She turned to leave the dancefloor, ashamed.

~

when the music swells

I'm touching your hand

it tells that you're standing near

and

~

A Willow-hand moved out and held a Tara-arm.

It slid down until it was holding a Tara-hand.

A gentle Willow-pull.

The redhead stepped nearer.

"Stay?..... Please?"

~

at the sound of your voice

heaven opens it's portals to me

~

Tara-girl turned back and looked wide-eyed and open-mouthed at Willow-girl.

She did the only thing she *could* do.

Was *capable* of doing.

She nodded 'yes'.

And smiled 'yes'.

And stayed.

~

can I help but rejoice

that a song such as ours came to be

~

Her shy Tara-heart felt like, well, it felt completely undescribable.

She was standing there on the dancefloor *with* Willow-girl.

And now they were moving.

Together.

Dancing.

Together.

She was dancing *with* Willow-girl.

The music slowed even more.

Tara-girl didn't even hear it.

The redhead took the final Willow-step closer and slid her arms around Tara-waist

'OHMY!'

'How did this happen?'

~

but I always knew

~

Willow-mouth was now touching Tara-ear.

A whisper - "Tara.....?"

Tara-heart stopped beating.

~

I would live life through

~

Tara-mouth couldn't form proper words anymore.

A murmur in response instead - "Hmmm?"

Tara-knees went very-jelly.

~

with a song in my heart

~

A Willow-whisper -

"I love you...."

and

Tara-heart

sang.

~for you~

* * * * * * * * * * *

THE END

Oh.... *sighs* That was so beautiful... I loved the way you wrote it! Generally, I don't like song-fics, but this one wasn't overly cloying. Good, good job.

Sincerely, Neko
