GRIMM - New Series from BtVS producer

Postby Hemiola » Sat Oct 29, 2011 6:35 pm

David Greenwalt is one of the creators of "GRIMM", a new series on NBC.

I caught the first episode on Friday (10/28), and there are, indeed, certain "family resemblances" to BtVS. Instead of random adolescent girls who become slayers, we have members of a specific family (i.e. the Grimm family) who become the fighters against supernatural evil creatures. This includes such creatures as "The Big Bad Wolf"--this is really funny since the phrase "big bad wolf" actually comes from a Walt Disney Silly Symphony, "The Three Little Pigs". :lmao

Of course what's really funny about the series is that the real Grimm brothers were philologists and semioticians, who collected folk tales to illustrate their German dialects, not for the stories!

Did anyone else catch it?

YES! I watched and I thought it was pretty good. It definitely grabbed you right off the bat. I also saw a lot of little "similarities" to Buffy/Angel as well. I LOL'd when he said, "My Aunt is a librarian." Then the weapons stash in the trailer...they looked awfully familiar. Wonder where I've seen them before... :hmm :grin

My biggest worry though, is that I get invested and poof! It gets canceled. Friday night is s death nell for TV shows. Shows on that particular night are usually ones that were doing poorly in the ratings and were moved to make way for something new before getting canceled. Putting a new show there...kinda worrisome. Especially one that plays to a specific audience.

Anyway, I'm gonna keep watching. So, I'll report back next week!

Hi Finey!

This week's episode, based on "Goldilocks and the 3 Bears", showed an even closer family resemblance to "Buffy", specifically the episode with the demon that pretends to be Hansel and Gretel ("Gingerbread"). It wasn't bad, but it doesn't seem to be as much - for want of a better word - fun as BtVS was at its best.

I'll stay with it, though. Just want to see if it develops further.

Hey There!

I actually liked the episode and I really like Eddie (the werewolf). I think we're gonna see a lot of episodes that sort of mirror Buffy, but Grimm is darker and more adult. It plays to a different audience, so yeah...not as fun, but definitely watchable! The original Grimm brothers fairytales were dark too, not like the Disney-fied animated movies. i.e. Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc. Since the Grimm brothers wrote Hansel and Gretel, I won't be surprised if we see a version of that as well.

I don't think anything can really top Buffy in well roundedness (is that even a word? lol) as far as having the drama mixed with the humor, etc. I've also been watching The Secret Circle and it's ok, but it's no Buffy...I think our standards are too high because nothing beats Buffy/Joss dialog:)

I watched the first episode and although I liked it I wasn't blown away by it. Meanwhile "Once Upon A Time" with jane espenson amongst the creative team blew me away completely with its modern day take on fairy tales (and it has Robert Carlyle which is a major plus point).

Friday night's (2/10) episode featured AMY ACKER as the guest star.

Believe it or not, Amy with her sweet face and tender voice played a black-widow-spider type monster, whose changed visage actually sported CGI "palpi" . :yikes Ugh!

I tell you I sometimes think it's some kind of conspiracy. First ME changes her into this nasty demon goddess; now David Greenwalt changes her into a spider. Can't they let the poor girl alone? :happy

She was GREAT and so was the episode!! I'm not a fan of spiders and it seriously creeped me out. I'm really enjoying the show and I freakin' love the relationship between Nick and Monroe. :grin

And just to show her allegience to all the Buffy/Angel creative teams and their shows, AMy will be in an episode of Grimm's main rival, "Once Upon A Time" as well.
