Choices in Fan Fic

Postby GayNow » Thu Jun 16, 2005 11:35 am

I tend to go for just about any fic as long as it's well written and well developed. Though a bit of full out smut never hurts. ;)

Poll? what's this about a poll? :lol

If I read a good fic from a particular author, I will always read their future work with interest, 99.9% of the time I will follow that fic. For authors I've never read before, I will be picky about plot, characterization and even formatting (yes I'm anal about formatting, sue me). But I'm easy, it just takes a nice story and believable characters to hook me in. So yeah, I'll read anything that is well written and developed, it's nice to be constantly discovering new authors to follow.

I think I have mentioned this before, but I love stories that start off as G, PG or PG-13 and slowly lead up to NC-17. The stories where W/T meet, fall in love and make love are the best ones.

"If it's well written and well developed, I'll read it."

That one, I only read fic that's well written otherwise I get frustrated with it.
No punching of parts that shouldn't be punched.... please! :pray

I do have particaular authors that I like to follow too... I'm actually picky, I've just realised. :lol

I usually am kinda harsh, I'll read the first chapter, or post and if it gets me i'll read all of it come hell or high water, if its not ill usually give it a miss,
(Which now that im writing my own fic is a scary scary prospect if anyone else is like me)

I am a sucker for any fic that has Tara as a strong independant woman, and a little teensy tiny bit of smut is always appreciated.... :blush

Its a system that works for me, there are soooo sooooo soooo maby brillient fics on this and other sites, that i usually end up downloading the story and saving it to my computer so i can read it with out a huge internet bill,

Im a bit of an insomniac...usually up till around three, so Willow and Tara, and occasionally some cough*Xena*cough (please dont beat me) keep me company till i join the land of nod.

Bloody Bravo :bow for everyone that posts their fic though, its a daunting prosess,
I'm getting a wrinkle above my eyebrow because I just can't stop lifting it, and I love that you know..

I'll give any fanfic a chance, but I'd prefer something that's well written. (So far I haven't been disappointed yet...)

The Kitten Board has some of the greatest fanfic I've ever read. :bow :bow :bow

Of course, I don't mind steamyness if it's included in the story. Oh, and I prefer happy endings (angst is okay as long as all is resolved by the time I'm done.

Thx
Tangetman.

I like reading any fic that a person is willing to share on here. Me taking a moment to read a fic is the least I can do for all the hard work you fic writers have done. =)

Well, to be quite honest, it depends on my mood. Sometimes it's smut all the way. But for the most part, I like anything well written, good solid plot, everyone staying in character and such. And that's how I voted.

Fanfic, like any fiction, needs to convince me. I need to believe in the characters and if I can believe in wherever they're going then it can work. But I can't JUST read smut. On occassion I've written pure smut - usually as private commisions/gifts for people - *cough* - but it never gives me half the satisfaction or pride in completing it as a fully developed episode in the girls lives which may lead to smuttiness.

Reading is no different. Being a good writer is no guarantee of good smut and vice versa. At least in my eyes. Some people are gifted in both areas.

And yes, its mood based.

One day I'll get that mood back

Cool poll!

I like good plots and characterization. Of course I follow some authors 'cause I'm sure I'll get it with them. But I don't hesitate when it comes to read fics from 'new' authors.
Smut is nice, especially when it is tastefully written (and we have masters in that area in this board) but PWP doesn't do it for me.

i love reading well written fics. somthing you can get lost in and acually see the characters faces, the way they walk and hear the way they talk. to me there is nothing better than that.

well this board has the best fanfics that i'm never out of supply reading well-developed and well-written stories... smut is okay, but i'm a self-confessed romantic and i like reading fics where willow and tara's relationship develop from coffee, kisses to gay love... i have favorite authors that i tend to follow as well (i have lots actually since there are a bunch of great authors here!), but i read from first-time authors as well if i have time to spare and the title catches my attention enough to want to read.

I like fics that are romantic with little pieces of angst-topping on it.;-) Fics with good plots and characters that are umm, you know, not out of character? Yep. That's it. :blush
