I Will Always Find You

Author: Kitty K

Rating: PG-13

Pairing: W/T

Notes: I need to do… or rather, to undo something. This is therapy for me, because I’m not ready to accept the events of “Seeing Red”, and I doubt I ever will be. This is my version of events, and though some things will be the same (DMW will make an appearance), the catalyst is different. Not a chance in hell, frankly. I hope that the Kittens don’t find this story offensive; it’s merely my way of getting over what I saw. It’s set just before the “hideous nightmare” scene, and will hopefully continue to what I feel is a satisfactory conclusion.

Spoilers: Yes. This story may include spoilers up to and including the season finale. Of course, a lot of these will be changed because I don’t like them, but it’s only fair to warn you about them.

Distribution: If you want to host this story, great! I don’t have my own W/T site yet… though I plan to make one in the summer holidays. All I ask is that you let me know. Drop me a line at: kateskitty@hotmail.com

Feedback: Please. This is my first W/T, so I would really like to know if it’s worth continuing. I don’t mind whether you have positive or negative comments; I much prefer honesty to “write more!” so please let me know.

“I got so lost…”

“I found you! I will always find you.”

“Tara? What’s wrong, baby?” Willow smiled earnestly as she noticed her girlfriend had been distracted by something in the garden. They were in her bedroom, just as they had been for most of the day. The women had been apart for a long time. Too long, Willow mused, silently thanking fate for bringing them together again.

“Nothing sweetie,” came the reply as Tara looked through the window, smiling as she noted that Xander and Buffy were sat talking, and not in an argument way, “pretty much the opposite in fact. Everything feels good.” Willow allowed herself a wicked grin as her lover added, “You feel good. C’mere.”

Willow didn’t hesitate to join Tara, and she soon found herself wrapped in the taller woman’s arms. Their lips slid together in a soft velvet caress, bodies pressed together tightly. Willow felt intoxicated as she took in the scent of Tara’s gentle breath combined with her musky perfume. She flicked her tongue against Tara’s teeth urgently, desperate to explore. Her love complied quickly, opening her mouth and letting out a breathy gasp as Willow’s tongue touched her own. Her knees almost buckled as she realised that the smaller woman’s hands were entangled in her hair.

“We just got dressed…” Tara whispered against her mouth.

Willow responded by gently biting the blonde’s bottom lip. She slowly sucked the tender flesh before she released it. Tara grinned, pulling her lover into a tight embrace as Willow rested her head on Tara’s shoulder, closing her eyes. Life is good, she decided.

“Warren…” Tara said slowly, gazing through the window once more.

Willow paused, shocked. She was thinking about Warren at a time like this?

“Tara?”

“DOWN!”

Before Willow had time to make sense of what was happening, she felt herself roughly thrown to the ground. Her left elbow smacked against the floor with enough force to send pain shooting through her arm, and a sickening crack rang in her ears. She looked up in time to see Tara fall to the floor with a thump.

“Oh my God!” Willow shrieked, scrambling across the floor. “Tara!”

Willow grabbed Tara, turning her over only to find blood staining several areas of the woman’s blue sweater. Her heart was beating so quickly she felt that her chest would explode from the pressure. Tara herself was shaking convulsively; her breathing was rapid, although she was still conscious.

“Where is it?” Willow cried, “What happened?”

“Warren had a gun — my arm,” She shuddered, “it’s my arm. Oh God, Willow, it hurts!”

“You’ll be okay, baby! Everything’s going to be fine…”

Willow thought fast. The wound was in Tara’s upper left arm, and she was clearly losing a lot of blood. She would need a tourniquet, and quickly. Her eyes searched the room for something suitable. Nothing. After a few seconds, she ripped her white cotton top over her head and threw it to the floor. Tara looked confused.

“You really think this is a good time?” She muttered, though still took the time to admire the view, “I mean, I knew you were horny, but…”

“Tara!” She exclaimed, laughing more through nervousness than humour as she began tearing the material into strips. “I’m not undressing for sex!”

“Damn…” She whispered, closing her eyes.

“No! Tara, stay awake. You have to stay awake.” Willow said sternly, raising Tara’s arm to tie the strips of shredded material around it. When that was done, she took Tara by the shoulders and shook her hard, eliciting a groan from the blonde. “You’re going to be okay, now come on. Come on baby, get up!”

After a few moments’ struggle, the women managed to get to their feet. Willow looped Tara’s right arm over her shoulder and they stumbled downstairs, tripping on the last step. Willow threw herself forwards, allowing Tara to land on top of her to ensure her a soft landing. It was enough to knock the wind out of Willow, but thankfully she was unhurt. Once she had made sure that Tara was all right, she ran to the phone and dialled 911.

“Willow?” Tara called.

“Yeah, baby?” She yelled back from the kitchen.

“Xander and Buffy were in the back yard,” Tara shouted, “when it happened.”

Willow suddenly felt cold.

Part Two

Postby Kitty K » Sun Jun 09, 2002 5:31 pm

Ok guys, this part is darker, basically where things begin to go pear-shaped for Willow and Tara. Remember though, I promise you a happy ending. That's a real promise too, not a Joss Whedon promise. ;)

Honest feedback appreciated. :)

**

“I’m okay sweetie, I swear!” Tara smiled as Willow fussed around her, fluffing her pillows for the fourth time. “It’s Buffy we need to worry about.”

“Are you sure?” Willow asked, her eyes wide. “’Cause I didn’t bring grapes, and goodness knows a girl need grapes if she’s going to get better. I’m bad. I’m a bad girlfriend.”

“You’re perfect,” Tara grinned, placing a light kiss on her lover’s forehead, “but sweetie, Buffy…”

Willow’s face fell slightly. She knew what had to be done, but she wasn’t sure she could do it. Frankly, she had been avoiding the subject since they had first arrived at the hospital that afternoon. Willow had never liked hospitals, with their cold, sterile rooms and peculiar odour. Buffy was seriously injured, having taken a bullet to the chest, and there was a good chance that she could die.

“You want me to use magic.” Willow said quietly. “I don’t know if I could stop…”

“Willow, she might die,” Tara pleaded, “you know I would never ask you unless I had to. I would be your anchor… we would do this together. Think how many times Buffy has saved our lives. I would try to do it alone, but Willow, you know that I’m not powerful enough.”

“You’re right, baby. We have to help her.” She nodded, feeling more confident knowing that Tara would guide her through the spell. “With you, I can do anything.”

“I know the feeling,” the blonde witch smirked, “now come on… we need to get to her quickly.”

Willow rushed to help Tara get up, being careful to avoid knocking her heavily bandaged arm. Tara was still weak from the shock, and they falteringly left the room and headed down the brightly lit corridor.

“W-Willow?” Tara smiled nervously.

“Yeah, baby?”

“Hold my hand?”

**

Xander sat wide-eyed as the two witches had explained their plan to him, clearly worried about the effects that the spell casting might have on Willow. However, his concerns for Buffy’s health won out since he was sure that if anyone could bring Willow back from a magic hit, it was Tara. The blonde witch had, after all, been Willow’s motivation to kick the habit in the first place, and he had confidence in her grounded approach to magic.

“Okay, I get it,” he said, clearly perturbed but wanting to help, “so what do I do?”

“We need you to keep a lookout,” Tara replied, “we have to have no disturbances whatsoever, because for me to anchor Willow effectively I need to keep eye contact with her. Otherwise it could mean her losing control, and there’s a good chance that the spell wouldn’t work.”

Tara glanced at Willow, who was busy focusing on Buffy’s semi-conscious form, features etched with shame at hearing Tara’s words. Tara squeezed her hand in a small gesture of support, eliciting a half-smile from the redhead.

“Can do,” Xander nodded, though without much confidence, “you two go ahead.”

Xander pulled back the thin blue curtains as he left, completely surrounding the two witches and Buffy’s hospital bed. Willow and Tara stood either side of Buffy, raising their hands and joining them over the Slayer’s chest. Tara winced in pain as she lifted her hurt arm, giving a slight groan. Willow subconsciously held the blonde’s hands a little tighter, the pain evident on her lover’s face causing her muscles to contract without warning.

“I’m okay” Tara whispered solemnly, “are you ready?”

Willow nodded, frightened, her eyes clouding with tears. Tara felt her throat tighten at seeing her lover so afraid. Unable to say anything further on the subject for fear of breaking down, the blonde witch offered her partner words of comfort telepathically for the first time.

Stay strong. I love you.

It worked. Willow regained control of herself, donning what Tara had once heard her call her “resolve face”. She was ready. Both women drew in a deep breath, and looked one another directly in the eyes.

Guérir.” Tara ordered loudly.

The entwined hands of the two women began to glow in bright orange pulses, bathing them in light. Energy crackled from their wrists to Buffy’s chest, and Willow gasped as she felt a strong pulling sensation in her arms. Tara’s eyes widened in an effort to make sure that Willow remained focused. The redhead’s breathing was rapid, beads of sweat forming on her forehead as she struggled to keep herself together.

**

“Sir, I need to see the patient. Please step aside.” The doctor said sternly. “You realise the seriousness of her condition? You’re not helping her.”

“I, uh… hey look! It’s George Clooney!” Xander yelled, pointing behind the doctor, who absolutely failed to turn around. “No takers, huh? Well, hey… that is a nice tie, where’d you get it?”

“Sir, I…”

“No, really, I mean… as ties go, that’s a… a… hell of a thing.”

The doctor’s expression changed to more amused, slightly sympathetic look. He wrapped an arm around Xander’s shoulders and patted him on the back, guiding him away from the door. Xander would have been relieved, but was now more concerned about where he was being led. The doctor was now behaving in a suspiciously friendly manner.

“Okay, Mr…”

“Ah, Xander,” he replied promptly, “Xander Harris.”

“Mr Harris,” the doctor repeated, “someone left his ward without permission, didn’t he?”

“Mm… my ward?”

“I’ll show you the way back, come with me.”

“Oh, you mean my ward? Of course!” Xander laughed nervously, taking the opportunity to keep the doctor away from Buffy’s room. “Love it there, always with the… what ward was that again? I mean, of course I know…”

“The psychiatric ward, Mr Harris… they’ll take good care of you.”

Xander laughed again, his voice rising in a crescendo of nervous giggles as he allowed himself to be led to the elevators.

**

“Guérir!” Tara ordered again, her face beaded with sweat. All three women were bathed in orange light, and the bullet slowly rose from Buffy’s chest. Willow felt desperate to cry out, but Tara’s eyes burned into hers, preventing her from doing anything other than focusing on them. The wound was beginning to close, and Tara could feel Buffy’s life force returning. It was going to work.

Stay with me, Willow. It’s working.

I’m scared. Tara, something’s wrong.

Tara felt Willow’s fingers tremble beneath her own. Now she felt it too, something was wrong. There was a presence between them. Someone else.

Hey strawberry…I sensed that something powerful was going down, and I thought I might join the party. Hope you don’t mind a gatecrasher.

“No!” Willow cried, recognizing the voice.

“Willow, stay with me! Don’t look away!” Tara yelled, “Hold on!”

Tara gripped the redhead’s hands tightly, her eyes huge and frightened. Willow’s eyes were darkening as Rack’s influence attempted to take her over, but she was fighting against him for all she was worth. Her body began to shake convulsively with the effort, tears streaming down her face. Tara felt her own eyes filling with tears as she realised that Willow was in grave danger of being consumed by magic. A long moment passed between them.

Come on, strawberry… don’t tell me you haven’t missed it.

“What’s going on, guys?” Buffy muttered, trying to sit up.

Willow glanced towards the Slayer, distracted by the sudden movement. That was all it took. Having lost eye contact with her anchor, the redhead lost control of the spell. Tara screamed in anguish as Willow’s eyes turned black, quickly followed by her lips and hair. The witch’s skin became deathly pale, and a sadistic smile twisted her face.

“W-Willow?” Tara sobbed, pain etched onto her face. “ Please, Willow…”

“Willow doesn’t live here anymore,” the witch sniggered, “and you know whose fault that is, don’t you?” She looked towards the Slayer disdainfully. “How many times do I have to magic your ass back to life anyway?”

“Oh God Willow, I’m so sorry.” Buffy whispered, “I never meant…”

“No. You never do.” The witch interrupted. “Now, if you’ll excuse me,”

“Willow,” Tara said quietly, “You’re still in there; I can feel you. Please, sweetie…”

“She is still in here,” the dark witch replied, “and she… she wants me to tell you that she loves you. But don’t expect more. This is my house now, and I have things to do.”

“So who are you?” Buffy asked, perturbed.

“I am a presence. The cold shiver you feel for no reason. The movement you think you see in the corner of your eye. I am this, made tangible by your magic.”

“You’re fear.” Tara said, her voice wavering.

Fear… simply put, but accurate enough.” The witch smiled. “The girl is a good host; she contains much of this ‘fear’, as you call it… but I prefer to go by the name Jace.” She added a small nonchalant shrug, and then by way of explanation, “It’s prettier.”

“What do you want with her?” Buffy asked angrily.

“Enough of this,” Jace replied, “I have things to do.”

With that, Willow’s body rose into the air and evaporated in a crackle of blue electricity.

COOL!

Ah, the title is totally making sense - now it will be Tara's turn to find Willow and bring her back. Sigh. (That's a good kind of sigh btw)

It's DMW, but it's not really, because something else has possessed her.

I like your W/T interaction - my favourite bit of dialogue was the 'Everything feels good.' 'You feel good. C'mere.' So adorable and saucy.

(And as a side note the little Xander scene was completely hilarious)

I'll be checking back for more :)

Just a (very) small update. I'm still writing as you read this, so I might have some more up this evening if I get a decent amount written. Oh, I'm also in the middle of setting up a new website for my fanfic, I'll let you know when it's all ready to go. :)

Made a small change to the end of part two, so I'll repost the last few lines here. Remember, honest feedback much appreciated. :D

“You’re fear.” Tara said, her voice wavering.

“Fear… simply put, but accurate enough.” The witch smiled.

**

Willow felt herself inhale deeply as her body re-materialised. The room she was in smelled of damp tinged with sweat, perhaps the cause of the peeling wallpaper. It was familiar… dimly lit, sparsely furnished with a couple of chairs and a sofa that looked like it had been rescued from the local garbage dump. A shadowed figure lay draped over the couch, idly toying with sparks which danced between his fingers. Mostly, the room was hot. Willow realised with a start where she was.

“Quiet in there.” Jace ordered, violently jerking Willow’s head to one side. Willow tried to respond, finding that she was unable to. She felt herself shrink back, panic-stricken with the realisation that her body was no longer her own. Jace surged with pleasure at Willow’s sudden fit of alarm. “That’s better…”

“Hey there, cutie…” Rack smirked, slowly rising from the couch. “I’ve been expecting you. That’s some explosive power you have goin’ on.” He approached the young woman with little trepidation, instead choosing to slither around Jace as he always had with Willow. He sniffed at her hair, holding his palms just centimetres from her skin, clearly thrilling at the woman’s power. Willow wondered if he hadn’t realised that she was no longer in control. “Of course I have, strawberry…”

Jace shook Willow’s head again, hard. “She’s plucky… five minutes together, and already she’s irritating me.” Jace turned to Rack, smiling seductively. “No matter… we’ll be one soon enough. In the meantime, you can be of use to me.”

“What is it that you want, strawberry?” Rack breathed into Jace’s ear, smoothing his fingertips down Willow’s arms. He nuzzled into the back of her neck, taking in the scent of her skin. “And what can you do for…”

“Just to take a little tour.” Jace interrupted as she spun round, flinging Rack against the wall as though he weighed nothing. She walked calmly to where he slumped on the floor, hoisted him up by the shoulders and pressed a hand to his chest. Rack’s life force immediately began to drain into Willow’s body. Jace closed her eyes, allowing the pleasure of her newfound powers to mingle with the pained screams of Willow, caged in a corner of her mind and fighting to be released. “You can’t escape, little one… but keep screaming. Your pain has a nice edge to it.”

“Please…” Rack croaked, rapidly losing consciousness. Jace regarded him, mesmerised, as she drew in the last of his energy. She smiled, cocking her head to one side in what was almost innocent fascination as his eyes rolled into the back of his head, now lolling to one side. The fascination passed quickly.

“Bored now…” She sighed, releasing Rack’s limp body. It fell with a crack as his head hit the uncarpeted floor.

Part Four

Postby Kitty K » Thu Jun 13, 2002 6:47 pm

Here's the rest of what I managed to get written tonight. Sorry it took so long, but I agonise over every sentence. I'm such a dork. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. :)

**

Dawn beamed to herself as she approached her house. Today had been a good day at school, or at least it had felt like one. There wasn’t much that could spoil today for her, since Tara and Willow were back together and were most likely waiting for her to arrive home. Then they would watch Cartoon Network together and make pancakes in funny shapes for her and stuff. Well, maybe they wouldn’t do that straight away, but they could if they wanted to. That in itself was enough to excite her.

As she ascended the steps leading up to the door, Dawn began to fumble in her jacket pocket for her keys. She grinned triumphantly as she managed to hook her little finger through the key chain and lift them out, quickly choosing the correct key and holding it up to the lock. Dawn felt her breath catch in her throat when the door slowly swung open with just the pressure of the key pushing against it. She stood in the doorway for a moment, too nervous to venture inside.

“Buffy? Anyone home? Willow?” She gave a small, hopeful smile as she added, “Tara?” Dawn tentatively placed a foot into the hallway, listening for any movement. When she heard none, she stepped into the house fully. Slipping out of her denim jacket, she looked into the living room for any signs of life before throwing the garment over the banister. As she lifted a foot to step forwards, she heard the sole of her shoe unstick. Dawn looked down at her feet.

“Oh my God… Buffy!” Dawn yelled as she streaked upstairs, following the trail of blood. Her stomach clenched as she realised that the trail led to Willow’s bedroom. Dawn ran into the room without thinking of the danger that she could be getting herself into. Thankfully the room was empty, but the sight of the thick puddle of blood on the carpet and a bullet hole in the window was enough to knock the wind out of the girl. She stood rooted to the spot, her skin trembling.

The phone began to ring, causing Dawn to shriek with surprise and fright. It would probably be Buffy calling from the hospital to tell her someone was dead. The girl’s stomach sank to her knees as she made her way down the stairs towards the source of the sound. She stopped short of the phone, her hand quivering as she lifted the receiver.

“Hello?”

“Dawn, thank God.” Buffy breathed, her relief obvious. “You have to come to the Magic Box. Now.”

“What’s happened?” Dawn cried, tears springing to her eyes at the familiar voice. “There’s blood everywhere and no one was here and the door was open and…” She found herself unable to finish her sentence, overcome by emotion and fear.

“Tara got shot in the arm, but she’s okay.” She soothed, avoiding the issue of Willow until she could sit the girl down and tell her face-to-face. “You have to stay calm Dawnie, I need you. Come to the Magic Box, ‘kay?”

“Okay.” She whimpered. “I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

Dawn placed the receiver back onto its cradle. Without hesitation, she snatched her jacket from the banister and headed for the front door.

**

“Thanks for this, Anya.” Buffy smiled ruefully, touching the vengeance demon on the arm as she spoke. “I just… I didn’t know where else to go.”

“You mean I was your last choice.” Anya stated bluntly, but without malice as she looked up from counting the day’s takings. “Well, I want to help Willow as much as you do. It could be worse, though. At least you didn’t bring Xander with you.”

Tara looked up from the various books she had scattered around the table for the first time since they had arrived. She exchanged a look of utter dismay with Buffy at the mention of Xander’s name.

“W-where did he..?” Tara spluttered.

“I’ve been missing for how long,” Xander complained as he walked into the shop, “and you only just realise I’m not around now?” He made a mock-hurt expression at the two women, who brightened considerably knowing he was safe. Anya scowled and returned to counting the day’s takings, causing Xander to create a genuine hurt expression.

“What happened to you, Xander?” Buffy inquired as she sat down, opening a book to begin researching. “You just disappeared… and how did you know to find us here?”

“Well it’s a long story, but once Giles checked me out of the Psychiatric ward…” He paused, suddenly remembering what he had meant to tell them straight away. “Oh yeah, Giles is back. Anyway, he was telling me about this coven in England who could sense a new evil mojo in town and when you weren’t there when we got back to your room and all the doctors were complaining about an energy surge, I figured that it must be Will…”

“Giles is back?” Buffy and Anya chorused. Xander sighed at the obvious lack of interest in his story, and nodded.

“Yes, that’s right.” Giles grinned as he walked through the open doorway. “I teleported directly to the source of the evil, but it had shifted by the time I arrived. I found myself in the hospital. When I did a quick scan of the area to see if you were nearby, I could hear Xander protesting quite loudly that he was not, in fact, a lunatic… and I knew I was home. Oh, my!” Giles laughed nervously as the two blondes ran towards him, embracing him tightly. “Yes, yes, I’ve missed you too, very much.” He smiled, slightly uncomfortable at the show of affection but nonetheless pleased by it. “Tara, I’m terribly sorry about Willow.”

Tara looked up from her books again, this time a grateful half-smile adorned her features.

“You’ve come all this way to help. That means a lot, Giles. Xander mentioned a coven?” She prodded, hoping he would disclose some helpful information.

“Oh! Yes, quite. They were aware of a new evil forming in Sunnydale, and I had hoped that it wouldn’t be Willow, but…”

“It’s not Willow.” Tara snapped. Giles blinked with surprise at her reaction, and then took off his glasses to begin cleaning them with a handkerchief. The Wiccan immediately coloured, flustering at her display of temper. “I mean, she’s been taken over by something. It’s n-not her. She wouldn’t.”

“Tara,” Giles began, replacing his glasses, “I understand that it’s difficult, but Willow does have a problem…”

“No Giles, she’s right.” Buffy interrupted. “I saw it too, she was taken over by something. It was claiming to be pretty much fear itself. Called itself… I wanna say ‘Mace’?” Buffy looked to Tara for confirmation.

“Jace.” Tara asserted. “I can’t find anything on him in the books so far.”

“She’s a he?” Anya quizzed, immediately picking up on Tara’s mention of gender. “He’s a he? Wow… that must be weird for Willow, I mean, especially with her being…”

“Well, let’s hold off calling Jerry Springer for now.” Giles interjected, grateful that Anya hadn’t had time to finish whatever it was she had been planning to say. “We have a lot of work to do. I’ll contact the coven to see what they know. You continue researching, and hopefully we’ll figure something out before this ‘Jace’ fellow causes too much trouble.”

“Do you see, Willow?” Jace laughed as people scattered throughout the street, trying to take cover from the bolts of power flying from her fingers. Some ran into shops, others cowered behind parked cars. Those who were hit by the energy fell to the ground, writhing in delirious agony. “Do you see what a wonderful, powerful thing fear is? Look at them. Each one subjected to their greatest fear. It’s beautiful.” With that, Jace lifted both hands to send out another round of energy. The drone of police sirens sounded in the background, slowly drawing nearer. Jace paused. There was a presence nearby which created a negative emotional resonance in this host. Jace enjoyed Willow’s emotions, which were strongly felt at the best of times… however, her negative emotions were that much more powerful. It would be pleasurable to toy with them.

“Warren…” She snarled, and evaporated in a flash of light.

"Were there dolphins?"
"Yes. Many dolphins at the pound."

Yikes. Jace definitely picked a good host, as Willow never holds back with her emotions.

However, I trust that Tara with the help of the Scoobies, will find her again.

Yelp! Uh - quick question. Didn't Willow's arm 'give a sickening crack' in the first part? Surely Tara would have noticed if she was hurt as well?

Can I just say that "I Will Always Find You" is quickly replacing "Seeing Red", "Two To Go", and "Grave" as the Season 6 finale and that makes me deliriously happy indeed?

hey,

Just caught up with this plot. This would have been so much better for the season finale! Grrrrr damn Joss!! :mad Loved the bit at the start where Willow started babbling about being a bad girlfriend. That was very Willow like. I felt so sorry for Willow when she was doing the spell with Tara and she started crying and shaking and stuff. Aww poor Willow :cry The only thing I like about what actually happened on Buffy - is that they killed that Rack guy who slobbered all over Willow! Grrrr! : -->>:

More soon please - bet that gives you de ja vu all over again!

Luv + Hugz + Evil Magick Willow's :p
