Mel Odom: also a god. "Revenant" was a recent purchase and I couldn't put it down.
And whoever did "The Faith Trials: Vol. 1." Reeeeeeeally got into the subtext of Faith/Buffy, or at least how Faith felt about Buffy. Anyone who can get into Faith's head and STAY IN CHARACTER is all right by me!

Illustrated novels are long-format comic books with no more text than a short story. (They're only novels in comparison to regular comic books.) Typically they have a better quality of printing and artwork reproduction. Among the Buffy illustrated novels i've read, "Ring of Fire" written by Doug Petrie is very good, and so is the "Dust Waltz." "Pale Reflections" wasn't as good.
The best of the Buffy comics i've read are the ones with the 4-part "Past Lives" episodes. It's similar to a recent arc on Angel. The best Buffy-related comics, imho, are Joss' "Fray" series.

A graphic novels is a story told in graphic form and is frequently a compilation of the monthly comic book or the many mini-series and one-shots (Bad Blood, Uninvited Guests, the Origin, Angel: the Hollower etc...). Some Buffy graphic novels are original stories, ie not originally published as a 22 pages monthly pamphlet. The Dust Waltz, Ring of Fire and Tales of the Slayer are original graphic novels.
An illustrated novel is, well... as it says, a novel with some illustrations. It's mainly text and some illos. Creatures of Habit seems to fit that description. At least, that's what I understand from the DH site's blurb.
The artwork for the cover is absolutely gorgeous. I really loooove Brian Horton and Paul Lee's artwork. Their covers for the DHP issues featuring "Angel: lovely dark and deep" were, sorry to repeat it ^^; gorgeous.

i loved "The book of fours" even though everyone else i've talked to hated it... and I liked "Pretty Maids all in a Row" as well... i should go check out what's coming.
i did something stupid this summer. after a break-up, i donated all my Buffy novels to a laundrymat. (weird decision) when i went back to steal them away, they were all gone! ARGH!

I am currently reading The Journals of Rupert Giles, and I thought you all would like to know how the author (Nancy Holder) wrote some of the W/T scenes:

So much has happened since buffy's nineteenth birthday. I've bought The Magic Shop, and Anya works for me. Joyce had a terrible brain lesion, which has apparently been taken care of through surgery. Willow has found a soulmate in the young Wicca, Tara, and their exploration of magick has proven quite impressive.

Willow and Tara combed the woods at the edge of town. There was a campfire, long since cold, but no sign of anything else. Whatever had been there was not there now.
Maybe...maybe that way," Willow suggested. Obviously running out of ideas.
Tara gently said, "We looked that way. And this way. And the other way. She's not out here."
Willow sagged, knowing Tara was right. "Where would you go?" she asked, profoundly worried. She stared into Tara's eyes. "If you felt lost and alone, where would you go?"
Tara took a moment, and then she did her best to wrap her dear, precious Willow in hope that many, many things on this plane of existence were good.
She said, "To you."

I find this quote very interesting in light of what's happened this season. Fact is, Willow in general did not approach magick with "respect and gentleness"--except when it was being used as a metaphor for The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name, i.e. between this incident and NMR. A sort of hallowed interval...then it was right back to the Witch Fu.
It's really cool that they incorporated that scene from "Blood Ties"; it was so sweet, and obviously we were not the only ones sorry it got cut.
