It's Auction Wednesday MKF

Postby AutumnT » Tue Aug 20, 2002 7:32 pm

So today is the day the kitten charity auction is supposed to start on Ebay, and I for one am pretty excited about raising more money for The Trevor Project and am so amazed by what we have done so far.

So in honor of today a question about auctions. What is the oddest thing you've ever bid on in an online auction or have been tempted to bid on.

And if you want, what can you see Willow or Tara bidding on?

Me, I bid on a Tic-Tac Vending Machine. Purely because you can never go to far for a good joke. And no, I won't explain the joke. Too complex.

Don't forget to spread the word about our auction!

Cool! More money going to a great cause.

Didn't Willow buy the Urn of Osiris on e-bay?

Willow probably didn't think to search for it.

i dont know about odd things, but this is the most desparate i ever got: i bought a tim roth movie on vcd out of hong kong. it was the only place i could find it. it was very good, by the way- the legend of 1900. i think its a tad easier to find now. ;)

Ooops. Good old Anya.

Maybe Willow would try to find X-Files collectibles on e-bay, and Tara might look for Xena stuff. Or camping equipment? Spellcasting tools? First edition Nancy Drew mysteries?

My brother-in-law bought a Mercedes on e-bay. A Mercedes with a bad transmission. :evil .

I'm afraid to check out any of the online auction sites. I know if I saw an Indigo Girls item that I don't have that I'd bid. I'm weak and obsessive like that.

My weakest auction moment was buying my Willow action figure. I set a limit - then went WAY over it. I had to have it. I think it cost me about NZ$130 after the postage cost.

Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to stay far away from the Kitten Auction - I'm going to be unemployed from the beginning of October, so my credit card is being locked away.

Although I have a job interview tomorrow morning. But I'm so nervous, I'm making myself sick! I think I'll go and read some fic before bed to get my mind off it, and then go try to get some sleep.

Autumn,

Thanks for the very timely daily thread! :)

Yes the auction will start today. I have about 60 items to input (ack!) from my own stuff and others donated to me from various people. Rally has a bunch as well.

Strangest thing I bought. The "Dracula Role Playing Game" only because I had heard how bad it was. It was.

The strangest thing I have sold? Hmmm....Have to think about that one.

The most profitable. I bought a copy of "The Complete Book of Necromancers" for $15.00. It sat on my shelf for years. Find out it is a very rare book, so I sold it on Ebay for $86.00! Not bad. I turned $120 worth of RPG stuff into $400 that time.

What would Willow buy? Odd computer parts, rare magical artifacts.
Tara would look for first edition printings of her favorite books.

Good luck to all sellers and buyers today!!!

Good ole Ebay. The weirdest thing I ever bid on and won, was probably the first thing I ever bid on... and I don't think I will say what it was.

Best auction ever selling, I used to collect 35mm trailers from science fiction films. A couple years ago I put some of them up for sale. A lovely little Blade Runner trailer that I paid $20 for in probably 1984, sold for over $350. That was a nice little profit for a hunk of film I had sitting in my parents basement for 15 years.

I can see Willow bidding on some magical stuff, charms or what have you. Tara, not so much as we know she is not big on the whole online experience.

-----

On two side notes, I spent most of last night updating my website, so if anyone wants to check it out and see how much I broke, that would be cool.

Also I was wondering if any football Kittens wanted to play in a Yahoo Fantasy league, if so drop me an email.

You know, Ive never actually purchased or sold anything at an auction. Im just not very good at that sort of thing, although I did attend a livestock auction one New Years Eve with my ex (hey, she was a country girl).

Willow might want to pick up some rare texts via the auction route. Tara might look for some hard to find magical supplies or artifacts.

A Yahoo Fantasy league? I didnt know they had leagues for that sort of thing! Oha FOOTBALL fantasy league. Darn, I was starting to get excited for a minute there. Im interested if I can select Randy Moss.

Rosenberg, you can have Moss every day of the week, I hate that guy and won't choose him for any of my fantasy teams.

Well, I'm a confirmed lurker, but at the mention of fantasy sports, I'll hop out of the lurky closet. I'm up for FF, things haven't gone well in Fantasy Baseball this year at all. I hate how Yahoo sets it up that I ALWAYS run out of pitching eligibility. Sigh. Anyway, Rally, if you still have space... (I don't want Moss either)

As for ebay, the weirdest thing I sold was a power cord for a mini refrigerator I have in my office. I bought the refrig on ebay for $50. The seller sent me two power cords by accident. I offered to send one back, but he demurred. I sold the extra power cord for $70.

I don't think Willow or Tara would be interested in my power cord... :)

Well sounds like there is interest so I will post the league # and password. There is plenty of room. League ID# 246842 Password = witches , its maxed out but I can modify the league, we can discuss it in the league forum, anyone who wants to join.

I am sure others are curious mollyig, let's just say, it was unique, one of a kind.

Oh, I cant stand the guy either because hes a total jerk. But he can play football and put up good numbers when hes not taking plays off. Maybe I can wind up with Joey Harrington. Hell wind up being the Lions QB before the season is half over.

By the way, my ex gf did bid on a hog and a goat at the auction. Im sure thats not as intriguing as what Rally bid on.

Then I have to ask you, is "spawn of fashawn" a real game or not? I heat about it in Dragaon magazine and such.

Buy on Ebay? I bought all 24 episodes of "spider man and his amazing friends" to watch with my son. All painstakingly taped by "some guy"..
Willow and Tara on ebay?
In the Buffy verse I would imagine EBay has a huge community of magical trade , since on the Internet no one knows you are a "gu'laka demon".

Ok, eBay topics I can't resist...
The weirdest thing I once found on the german eBay (and we don't even have a category called "Weird stuff") was a buttered slice of bread...
What next, a used + sealed pair of socks, worn by someone who attended a Tocotronic concert. He didn't perform, he just stood there and sweat into his footwear.
The sad part? Someone bid for it...

I realised reading this thread that I've never been to an auction of any kind. I've also never been [b:edcc734083] in[/b:edcc734083] an auction, but will gladly put myself up for sale on ebay if it will raise money for a good cause. ;) I'm house trained.

Sure that must be worth a dollar or two.

i *almost* bid on an ani difranco lighter and wall mount clock, as a gift for my then gf, but i copped out, and ifugred through some complicated logic, that thought cool, and indoubitably joy bringing, such items were anti the ani spirit and thus counteractive to their good purposes. ie: the major groovy shot of her tatoo on her chest on the clock........
only thin i've ever sold was a camcorder, an at-one-point-in-time top of the line amateur camcorded, but now, just an annoying not very good quality thang. to me at least. some 13 year old boy now enjoys it. yay!
the plan [i:9f4e722992] was[/i:9f4e722992] to go and get me a professional camera finally, buuuuuutttt, that of course didnt happen. with the perpetual broke-ness of me.
shrug, do i.

peace.

Oops, that's what I get for taking you literally, Rally, and emailing you before reading the rest of the posts.

Anyway, I haven't bought many things on ebay. I'd say that the most unique one I got is a unicycle, but I don't think that's too strange. It was a nice one, too, a Semcycle.

I know someone with a unicycle. Oddly enough, she's never once ridden it. It now sits unused and gets in the way in the kitchen of her apartment. Heh.

Tell me, what do you [b:95d382d4c7] use[/b:95d382d4c7] a unicycle for anyway? Is it for amusing your friends, or showing off, or what? ;)

The challenge to actually learn how to ride an unicycle is simply irrestible, to me anyway, that's the secret. And for show off reasons, of course. And it's a big part in the juggling scene, but unfortunately doesn't fit anywhere near fire juggling and that's where my unicycle landed at my best friends' sister's house.
I think it's kind of stylish to have a unicycle sitting in a completely inappropriate room, kinda like a moose head...or a toilet seat.. not that I'd have a toilet seat in my living room *cough*...., or have I?

Also, when you go to a college and live in a dorm where 1 out of every 3 people have a unicycle, the peer pressure gets to you! ;)

Seriously, though, it's fun. And on my new campus, there's rules against riding bikes, roller blades and skates, and scooters and skateboards, but no one said ANYTHING about unicycles!

There would be the showing off factor, too, except that I look really silly balanced on one.

edited to add: yea, juggling, heh. I learned to juggle three balls in the span of half an hour, but I can't learn anything else. I simply am horrible at new patterns, and whenever I throw a club in the air, I run in the other direction.
