Well, like the header says, I had a pretty epic dream the night
before last, and I thought I would post it up on Different
Colored Pens, if for no other reason than I cant think of anywhere else to put it!
I hope you dont mind!
Every great once-in-a-while I'll have these really incredible dreams
(sometimes nightmares) that are so cinematic and entertaining, I
would've payed $6 just to see them in a theater!
The best part is, because they've made such an impact on my mind, I
am actualy able to remember much of the details after I've awakened!
I can think of at least five I've had over the past twenty years
that were like that, and I am surprised on how much I can recall of
them in any detail, to this very day.
But before I go any further, I will admit that about 25% of what I'm
about to tell you came to me immediately after I awoke, as I sorted
things out and filled in some details (I remember just staring at
the ceiling, 3 in the morning, my mind happily racing).
However, since I fell immediately back to sleep (it *was* 3 in the
morning, after all), I can no longer recall how much is of the
former or of the latter.
It probably does'nt matter.
It was an animation, like a two-hour pilot for a series, in the
style of the Extreme Ghostbusters/Men In Black cartoons, though the
girls were drawn in a more cute/sexy anime style.
It was set in Sunnydale, but not the one we are fimiliar with-
This Sunnydale was a large, rambling city more like San Diego or San
Jose, and was pure Old Hollywood, 30's-50's in style, with
sun-bleached art deco and spanish archetechture, and palm trees
everywhere.
All the cars were fashioned after that time period, too.
The story was told from the point of view of Xander Harris,
graveyard shift taxi cab driver for the Snyder Cab Company, and was
narrorated by Xander as well, in his classic Woody Allen/Sam Spade
way.
Other cabbies included Oz, Wesley, and Gunn; dispatchers were
Harmony and Glory (who were also sisters, apparently), and the night
manager was Doc (these last three
were not presented as bad guys in the least, and were all quite
human, though Doc was shown to be somewhat mysterious).
Snyder was the owner (he *was* shown to be a real jerk).
Each character was drawn to resemble their Buffy namesakes, and were
voiced by their original actors.
The meat of the story/dream/whatever starts as, during a late-night
rainstorm, and while argueing with his boss on the wireless, Xander
swerves his cab to avoid what he *thinks* is a speeding dumptruck,
and accidently hits a young teenage girl head-on.
Frantically he leaps from the car to check on her, and that is when
we see that she is Willow! Albeit a younger one, about 15 or 16, and
dressed in an outrageous, yet feminine and very formfitting outfit
that was one part Moulin Rouge, one part Comedia Del Arte, and one
part 80's Punk Princess; minature ladies top-hat tied into place
with delicate ribbons; velvet victorian waistcoat with tails over a
merrywidow bustier; pleted velvet shortskirt poffed up by a
multitude of lacey underskirts; fishnet knee-stockings with garters;
and granny-boots, all in violet, blueviolet, purple and lavander.
It's attractive, but somewhat odd.
Xander is naturaly freaking out, going "omigodomigodomigod" over and
over, but before he even gets close enough to check her pulse,
Willow sits straight up, eyes wide open, and exclaims, "Omigosh!
It's getting away!"
And again, before Xander can do or say anything, ANOTHER girl comes racing up to them from out of seemingly nowhere, and helps Willow to her feet. She is dressed in an outfit similar to Wil's, only in colors of tearose and coral pink, her age approximately 15-16.
It's Tara.
"Honeybunches, are you o.k.?"
She has a sweet, down-south accent.
That's when Xander notices, for the first time, that the girls are each toting heavy military issue Spaz 90 machine guns, HUGE FREAKING GUNS about 75% their hieght in length, hanging from a strap over their shoulders.
Then he notices that the guns seem to be made of a see-through plastic caseing, like a pop-toy, tinted in colors to match their outfits.
He is confused.
Willow suddenly shouts "Hit the ground!" and shoves Xander effortlessly to the street as a barrage of heavy gun-fire blankets the area- they are under attack!
It is from the thing Xander thought at first was a dumptruck;
It is a military-style battlesuit, very anime, like the ones from Appleseed or Ghost in The Shell; it is indeed about the size of a dumptruck, and is gun-metel blue-greay, barring vaguely nazi-like military insignia's and markings, and is mounted with two huge gattling guns.
Willow gets grazed by a bullet and collapses to her knees; Tara, in retaliation, grabs Xander's cab, lifts it over her head, and throws it into the battlesuit, causeing it to collapse into the side of a building. Miraculously, there is no explosion.
The rain is really starting to pour now, and somewhere a car alarm goes off.
Tara then quickly inspects Willows headwound, then lifts her into her arms, then sprints up to the rooftops and away, leaping from building to building.
Xander just stands there, speechless.
Thats when the chestplate/hatch to the battlesuit is literaly kicked open, and a lone figure scrambles out.
He is dressed all in tight black leather, with matching biker-style jacket, motorcross boots, knee and shin guards, and black leather fingerless gloves.
He is an anthropormorphic rabbit, a rather sgraggly-looking march hare to be exact, rail-thin, lanky, but not without some muscle development, and about three feet tall. A series of silver stud earrings line one loppy ear.
It's Spike.
He lights a cigarette, takes a deep drawl, and asseses the situation.
"Bloody hell. Third bloody battlemate in a month. Angelus is gonna have me with potatoes.."
He is completely oblivious to Xander, and walks right by him, head and ears down, paws in pockets, grumbling "miserable weather.."
Thats when the cab blows up.
Xander is still confused..
Ok, believe it or not, there was more to this dream, but I wanted to wait and see if you guys wanted to be bothered with it, so I'll leave it at that for a while.
But WOW, what a cool dream!
Guy.
