Somewhere in a mystic land, a beloved holiday leader felt ill, and decided it was too risky to prepare himself for the holiday. In the workshop, thousands of toys were being prepared for Christmas, while Santa decided on what to do prevent Christmas from having to be canceled.
Santa made his decision, and he knew it was a right one. A few years ago, all the holidays of the world, discovered each other, thanks to a meaningful character by the name of Jack Skellington. Santa had, at first hardened his heart in sight of this creature. However, after having being rescued from the clutches of the menacing Oogie Boogie, last year and the year before. Santa considered Jack a worthy friend. Jack had a passion Santa had never seen, whether it was Halloween or Christmas, he loved the holidays he discovered, and was proud of their existence.
Santa needed Jack to once again, take his place. However, Jack need not worry about the toys; Santa’s elves would still provide the presents they made and a note to ordinary people that Jack was delivering in Santa’s absence by Santa’s request. Santa notified Jack of his decision, and lucky for Jack, he still had the outfit when he had unintentionally made Christmas scary. As soon as he heard, Jack raced to Santa’s aid and took the bag of toys and list with him. Two of the good children on the list were Willow and Tara.
Willow and Tara, however, young and innocent as they seemed, they were not treated well. While not starved, both Willow and Tara were badly neglected.
Both the parents who treasured them had, heaving the unhappy parents, with two children they frowned upon. Being toddlers though, all they could do was seeing the neglect. Usually, at night they were abandoned, and tonight, Christmas Eve, unfortunately, did not appear to be any different.
Unknown to Jack, they were the last children on his list, and lucky for them, he was dedicated to delivering the gifts. Jack had delivered all the other gifts and now, headed now to Tara’s chimney. Once inside, he noticed her clothes were torn, and instead of delivering the gifts, he gently lifted the child into his bony arms, and after gazing in disgust at the treatment of her, went up the chimney, with the small child in his arms. The Maclay family noticed she was gone, but they never seemed to care. Jack somehow knew about Willow, as he rescued her from her sadness.
It wasn’t long before the sleigh found its way to Halloween Town, and Jack unloaded the children, the gifts and himself and the sleigh disappeared. Jack now carried the youngsters, via a doom buggy-like carriage, to Doctor Finklestein’s lab. Not to see him, at least not yet. He wanted to see Sally. She always helped him and understood him, and in his eyes, was one of his best friends.
Jack wandered up the stars as the buggies followed him to Sally’s room. A dimly lit room seemed to go bright as Sally noticed Jack. She then paused, staring at the new guests.
“Who are they, Jack?” She stopped to look at Tara, who now had look of fear on her face.
“They were the last children on Sandy’s list, but when I went to deliver the gifts, I noticed the children were very unhappy. I would have left them at an orphanage, but I felt that was not right. I though maybe we could raise them, as Halloween Town citizens.” Jack now witnessed a bond between Tara and Sally start to grow as Sally gently lifted the scared child out of the buggy. Willow looked jealously, a small pout gracing her tiny lips.
The fear that Tara had, ceased the moment Sally looked at in her in her lap. She looked at Tara’s clothes, and gasped. Why were these two humans mistreated?
Sally gently removed the soiled clothing and wrapped Tara in a black cloth blanket before continuing to talk to Jack. “Doctor Finklestein does have potions that will transform the children into any creature they wish to be, however before I’d ask him about that, I’d explain this predicament to the Mayor, Jack. See what he thinks. I know he is just an elected official, but I think he would be proud of you. I will keep the children here – perhaps make new clothes for them.”
Since it was nighttime, Jack did not proceed to the Mayor’s house, but went home to rest. He had fulfilled Sandy’s wishes, and unintentionally found himself caring about two innocent children who by chance, were not from his beloved town, but the real world. Jack may have been the most frightening character in Halloween Town, but he rarely showed the scary side of his personality. He would have liked to sneak up upon those responsible, but he had the idea that he should allow the children to face their offenders, with the malevolent help of Lock, Shock, and Barrel, to assist them in scaring their cruel-hearted parents.
Sally had now decided it was time to introduce Doctor Finklestein to the youngsters. Dr. Finklestein was a crippled man, who looked like he had the bill of a duck, skinny arms, and no way to move around without his wheelchair. His head, apart from his weird solutions, was a little different from the rest of the town. His had the uncanny ability to open up, revealing his brown colored glop of a brain. His sharp pointy teeth often looked like they were rotten, yet they never fell out. He usually stayed up late, always working on some weird project he enjoyed, and usually fussing about Sally.
“Dr. Finklestein?”
