She sneezed, so hard that she actually moved with the force of it, and then looked over at Willow sheepishly. Her blond hair was messy and falling in her face, her blue eyes were looking tired and heavy, like the lids were weighting her down.
Taping her pencil against the notebook ahead of her, Willow began to twirl a strand of her red hair around her finger, tightening it so that she would focus on something other than Tara-Sneezes. She raised her head slowly and, with much restraint, she said, "Sweetie?"
"I know, I know." She bit down on her lip, furrowed her brow. "Biiig test."
"Very much in the way of a big test- possibly one of the biggest ever in the history of big-sized tests." Willow nodded, her features softening. "I know you're sick and that having a cold isn't exactly fun time," she relented. "But I need to study, really really. Would you mind if I went to the library?"
Tara forced herself to smile, trying to be helpful. It was her own fault that she was sick, she shouldn't have gone outside to look at the stars the night before without a sweater. It was getting cold and she had been irresponsible, now she had to pay the price of, well, much sneezes. "Go ahead," she agreed.
Willow started to gather her books, piling them one on top of the other. She was standing up as she glanced over at her girlfriend, who seemed to be on her seventh or eighth Kleenex, as illustrated by the tower of them next to her. Tara sniffled loudly, wiped at her nose, and leaned in closer to read the book in front of her. She was wrapped up in her warmest pajamas, pink-and-white-stripped flannel bottoms and a long-sleeved tee-shirt.
With a sigh and a roll of her eyes, the redhead set her books back down and went over to Tara. Willow sat down behind Tara and wrapped her small arms around her girlfriend's waist, resting her chin on the blonde’s shoulder. Willow heard a soft laugh and then Tara leaned back into her. "I knew you couldn't go."
"I totally could," Willow replied. "I chose not to because I felt it would be like leaving a puppy with a ...puppy eating monster. Easy prey."
"You'll get sick too, though," Tara replied, running her fingertips along her love's arms.
"Yeah," Willow agreed. "And that's when you'll take care of me."
“Well, then I should know what you’re going to do for me so that I can reciprocate,” Tara said and then followed it up with a sneeze.
“Bless you.”
“Oh, and I feel blessed.”
The girls giggled and then Willow began to explain, “To heal you I’m thinking much snuggles. Kisses- alternating between bigs and littles. I’ll make you some of that cayenne powder, some tea, soup, I can even read to you from any book you like before I lie down with you for some rest- would you like ‘The Shy Little Kitten’?”
Tara grinned and turned around to face Willow. “I love you so much, baby.”
Willow hugged back as tight as she could, resting her head sideways on Tara’s shoulder and pressing her hands gently against her love’s back. She felt so warm and safe, and suddenly couldn’t imagine why she’d wanted to go to the library in the first place.
Tara was stroking Willow’s hair with one hand and holding her tight with the other. It was so nice in her girlfriend’s arms, comfy, and for the first time since she’d woken up that day, she didn’t actually need to sneeze. Incredible.
“What if I had to sneeze for ever?”
Willow smiled. “Then I’d give up on school and tell the guys I had much importance to do, and I’d hug you and make you warm drinks until you felt better.”
“Would you read to me forever too?”
Willow lifted up her head to gaze into Tara’s beautiful eyes. She felt dizzy, somewhat lost. Biting down on her lip softly, she replied, “If we could live in our pajamas, yes.” She reached out to brush back Tara’s hair behind her ears. “You’re the only person I ever want to be in love with.”
Tara sneezed so suddenly that Willow couldn’t move away. Then the blonde giggled, embarrassed. “Ooops.” Quickly, she grabbed a Kleenex from her pile and wiped at her nose in case there was anything that shouldn't have been there.
Willow shook her head mock-disaprovingly. “Ruin a beautiful moment, Maclay, why don’t you?”
“Thought I just did...” she teased back.
“You are so yucky!”
“I try, really," Tara replied with a sniffle. She grinned. "It’s how I plan to keep you. Be as gross as possible.”
“Oh, well, it's working." She rolled her eyes. "Good times.”
