Argentina just scored! Against Germany!

Oh man...If we pass tonight, I'm not sure we can beat Argentina (or even Germany, if the result changes) :paranoid

E-again-TA: our match ended a few mins ago, we won 3-0. This has been our best match so far, and the first time that I saw the guys really *there*. If they keep playing like they did tonight, flying on the field, well, one can always hope! I'm extra happy that Toni got to score twice! :party

Yes, Germany is not Ukraina, and Italy-Germany is a historycal match already, but let's hope that history will repeat itself again! :peace

Germany lost.

But then, it was a good match and a well played tournament for a very young and unexperienced German team. So no reason to cry too long, I guess. :sigh

Plus, I don't know how you are feeling about the World Cup but here in Germany it's really great. Smiles and happiness and friendly people from all over the world. Wherever you go you meet smiling faces. And the mood is catching! Like a great wave of enthusiasm and confidence.

I think the match last night was the best one so far this World Cup. It was good to see a ref actually let the game flow and not keep giving silly yellow cards or free kicks. I think Italy finally showed how they are capable of playing and that they are not just all about defence. In my opinion, the best team won and I wish them the best of luck in the final, whether it be against France (which I think is more likely) or Portugal.

And now for the finale we play France. It will be a good match, I'm sure, but tonight I didn't like the match that much... not many occasions from either team. Maybe it was cos I wasn't emotionally invested in the match, but there weren't many moments that made me fear for one or the other to get a goal.

Now, we wait for sunday, and I hope that Italy will play like last night :smash

I agree that it wasn't a very good match, Val. Even though I had no vested interest in last night's match, it was really exciting. Tonight's was just pretty boring. Once France scored, they seemed content to sit back and not push for another goal and Portugal seemed content to just try to get a penalty. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration but when there are so many players diving all over the place and no one gets booked until the 80th minute or whatever it was, how do they expect to make players stop doing it???

Roll on the final - it should be a good match between two teams who both seem to just be coming into form at the right time.

Cel, I can understand France sitting back and defending the score to try and keep its players fresh and not so tired for sunday's match, but Portugal wasn't even trying to score! I dunno, last night they were running all over the field, Germany even tried to score after we scored at the second to last minute to the end of the match! (and then we ended up scoring again :laugh

), but tonight Portugal didn't put up a fight... and honestly, I don't think they're going to win against Germany in the final for the 3rd and 4th place. It was definitely a boring match, my dad went to sleep at the beginning of the second half, guessing that the result wouldn't change... and he was right!

Yet they won the match. Now that's just embarrassing.

It is the curse of being an England fan to know never to sit on a one goal lead. Too many times that last minute goal has gone against us. I guess France felt they could soak up what little Portugal threw at them but it could have backfired had one of those injury time corners led to a goal. Still, when the last four were decided, this was the final I wanted to see.

I think Germany will win third place too, as long as they are able to get over the disappointment of last night.

Well, it wasn't a classic match for the impartial observer but taking the tournament as a whole, I think Italy deserved to win. After Zindane went mental, I was hoping even more that Italy would win. It's sad that such a great player will be remembered for being stupid and losing his cool, although he did put his head in, albeit more gently, in one of the other games - I don't remember who against - and was just cautioned. No doubt it will be a pub quiz question in future years.

Well done, Italy. Football's over until the new season. I can't wait for Euro 2008 now! :impatient
