~Part 7a~ …Happy Sweet Sixteen Tara

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Tara sat back in her desk at school, watching and listening as the teacher spoke about some ancient thing or another. She tried so hard to concentrate on her studies, but she was worried sick about everyone else around her. Did her mother even deserve such care? To Tara, everyone deserves at least one good thought about them. And Tray…wherever she was, Tara hoped to God that she was happy and alright. Now Willow…the one girl who has been in her head twenty four seven. Where was she? How come she never came to visit? Why was she never home? All these questions floating around, but the big one was, does she even miss me?

“Hey, earth to Tara…” Two weeks in her new school, she made a couple of good friends. Terri sat in front of her, waving her hand in front of he blonde’s face. “You in there?”

Blinking a couple of times, Tara snapped back to reality and locked eyes onto her brunette friend. “Yeah, sorry, what did I miss?” She asked smiling a bit.

“Oh, you know, just a lot of homework assignments that are due by the end of next week.” Teri shrugged smirking.

“Really?” Tara looked up at the board and saw the homework box untouched. “Liar.”

“Hey, not my fault, you’re the one who went off into whatever land you go off in to.” Terri swung her bag on her shoulder standing up. “C’mon, it’s lunch time and we have to meet the other girls out by the basketball courts.”

Tara stood up and packed her notebooks into her bag. “Why the basketball court?”

“Well, Marie wants to check out Davies shoot hoops, Lexi and Candace just want to catch some New York sun.” Terri grinned as they walked down the halls of the school. “Although, I don’t know why Marie even bothers to get Davies attention when he totally has the hots for you.”

Tara frowned and watched as her brunette friend skipped to the front doors. “You are so weird.”

“That’s why you love me.” Terri grinned.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“One successful date.” Xander grinned sitting down by Buffy and Cordelia out on the campus lawn.

“Way to go, care to make those two in a row?” Cordelia smirked.

“Why yes Cordy, I can.” Xander said positively. “In fact…here she comes now…”

Tray-Al approached the small group with a smile. “Hey!” She smiled happily. “I hate being a senior here…everyone expects so much out of you.” She sighed flopping down.

Buffy snickered and looked at Tray. “Does this mean you are not running for homecoming queen?”

“Yeah, ‘cause you could totally win.” Xander smiled sweetly.

“Thanks but I think I’ll pass.” Tray scooted herself up beside Xander and rested her head on his shoulder.

“Pass? Are you kidding? Who, in their right mind, would pass at an opportunity like that?” Cordelia couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“I think she just did.” Buffy shrugged. “Oh well, there’s always prom queen.”

Tray raised an eyebrow and grinned. “Right, like I can so win that.”

Xander smiled and looked at Tray, “You could.” He simply said.

“You think so?” Tray asked looking back up at him.

“I know so.” The young man grinned and patted the blondes hand. “Anyone who wouldn’t vote for you…they are just plain stupid and don’t know what they are missing.”

Tray-Al just smiled and nuzzled in a bit further. “So, Xander, what about that second date?” She grinned.

Buffy and Cordelia exchanged looks, grinning like crazy. “Someone scored another date…” Cordelia laughed. “And Xander of all people.”

“Hey.” Xander looked at his two best friends. “I’ll have you know, I am quite the gentleman.”

“Oh he is.” Tray sat up straight with a big smile on her face. “Even though he can’t drive, he picked me up and we walked to this small Italian restaurant, he bought me a rose and we walked to the cliffs, where we sat and talked and talked, then when he walked me home, I wore his coat because I was cold…”

“Aww.” Buffy pouted. “No fair, I want a boyfriend like that.”

“Hell…I just want a boyfriend.” Cordelia grumbled. “Damn men…maybe I should convert…wait, maybe not… that would be bad and we don’t want bad, but still, maybe if I do I can get some romance or something, because I know some girls look up to me here at school, and what they wouldn’t give to be in my shoes…but then there are the guys who also like to check me out…am I that unapproachable? I mean, seriously…”

“I think you broke her.” Buffy snickered at Xander and Tray. “Seriously.”

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“Thank you.” Willow said grabbing a belt she just had hand made.

“That will be thirty bucks.” The guy grumbled holding out his dirt covered hand.

“Thirty? You said twenty before.” Willow spat.

“Whatever lady, I said thirty, now give me thirty before…”

“Before what?” Spike came up behind the red head, throwing away his empty cigarette package.

The guy looked at Spike and snatched the twenty out of Willow’s hand. “Never doing business with fucking teens again.”

Willow wrapped the belt around her and started to walk off when I hand stopped her. “Red…don’t I get so much as a thank you?”

“Why?” Willow frowned. “I was doing fine on my own, didn’t need your help.”

“Right then, guess I’ll be seeing you around.” Spike turned to walk away.

“Okay, thank you. You saved that guy trouble…you spared him, so I thank you on behalf of him.”

Spike chuckled and shook his head, walking closer to Willow. “You know, you are really something else you know that? You think that attitude of yours is going to get you somewhere? You’re right, it will…just hopefully not in some ditch…” He wasn’t even able to finish that sentence as a punch was thrown at him, knocking him down in shock. Holding his nose, he looked up at the petite red head.

“You know, I may be young, and sometimes immature and crazy, but one thing you need to learn, Spiky… Don’t. Fuck. With me. Got it?” She turned and walked away from the bleached blonde.

Spike smirked as he watched the red head go, he stood up and wiped his bloody nose on his hand. “Damn bitch.” He growled at the red head, only to have her flip the bird at him as she continued walking. < I like her >

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

The weekend finally arrived and Tara was glad that it did. She was so excited to be turning sixteen, and was even happier that Belinda stayed home the night before. Sure Tara was shocked that her mother didn’t go out like she did every night, but happy none the less. It didn’t feel the same though, she was used of having the house to herself at night, being alone, and definitely used of smelling alcohol radiate the house as her mother did come home.

Like two nights ago, Belinda had locked herself out of the house, so she broke a window and climbed through, only to break her favourite lamp. When she woke up the next morning, she turned around and blamed Tara for it, saying that she should’ve stayed up and waited until Belinda got home. Luckily, Tara fixed it by herself, and no one was at blame any longer.

“Happy birthday sweetheart.” Belinda woke Tara up with a light snuggle. “How’s my little girl?” She asked, sitting on her daughter’s bedside.

“Thank you…” Tara smiled. “And I’m a little tired, but I’ll wake up soon.” She sat up in bed facing her mom. “Mom, you do remember I’m having friends over right?”

“Honey, of course I did. I cleaned up the living room and kitchen for you.”

“Really?” Tara wiped her eyes and grinned as her mom nodded. “Thank you!”

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“Happy Birthday!” Terri, Lexi, Marie and Candace yelled as Tara opened the door. Grinning from ear to ear, she took the cake and invited them in.

“Thank you.” Tara felt happy; she had friends who cared for her. People she could pass the time by with.

“I baked it.” Terri said proudly, giving Tara a quick hug. “It’s not everyday you get to bake a Sweet Sixteen birthday cake.”

“Yeah, and we decorated it.” Marie smiled, referring to the rest of the girls.

“Well thank you.” Tara beamed. “Come in, make yourselves at home, I’m just going to put this in the kitchen.” Walking into the kitchen she seen her mother all dressed up and touching up the last of her make up, applying it onto her face. “Going out?” She asked, frowning a bit. Just when things seemed to look up…

“Just for a bit…with Christie.” Belinda shrugged a bit.

“But it’s my birthday.” Tara protested softly.

“Your friends are here, you won’t be alone.” She kissed Tara on the forehead before grabbing her purse. “Bye ladies, have fun.” She yelled from the foyer then…gone.

Sighing, Tara walked into the living room, smiling a bit. “So, what shall we do?”

“Well, it is your birthday.” Lexi teased. “Oh…how about we listen to some music and play twenty questions.”

“Twenty Questions? Lexi…you always suggest that.” Candace giggled.

“What? So I have question floating inside my head all the time, sue me.” Lexi shrugged. “Besides, it’s not up to you, it’s up to Tara.”

Tara smirked. “I’m in.” She sat on the floor beside Terri. “How do we play?” She asked, realizing she’s never played before.

“Easy, each of us get to ask a question to any one in the room, and that person has to answer truthfully.” Lexi shrugged. “Either that, we all write down questions on pieces of paper, throw them into a hat or something, and whatever questions we pull out, we have to answer truthfully.”

“So why do they call it Twenty Questions?” Tara asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Lexi doesn’t know, she just heard her cousins talk about it and she decided to make up her own game.” Marie giggled.

“Ok, I’ll grab paper and pens.” Tara stood up and walked into the small den area, grabbing pens and paper and her hat. Walking back past the door, he door bang rang, placing her stuff on the nearby chair, she opened the door and almost died of shock. “Willow!” She finally breathed and embraced the small red head.

Willow was so happy Tara didn’t push her away, she was afraid of that, with her not dropping by and all. “Tare.” She breathed, feeling all warm inside.

Tara grabbed Willow’s coat and looked at green orbs in front of her. “What…what brings you by?” She asked softly.

“Do I really need an excuse to see my Tara on her birthday?” Willow grinned.

~Part 7b~ …Happy Sweet Sixteen Tara

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Tara looked Willow up and down; the red head was wearing baggy pants and a tight shirt. The blonde inspected the dark denim coat she had in her hand; it had holes in the sleeves. “Nice outfit.” She said honestly, truth was, to Tara, this look was good for Willow.

Willow blushed a little and gave Tara a bag. “I missed you.” She said quietly, smiling a bit.

Blue eyes sought out green ones. “Really?”

A confused look crossed over Willow’s face. “Of course!” She said in partial disbelief. “Tara I…”

“Hey.” Terri came up to the two teens. “Tar, are we still playing?” She smiled sweetly.

“Oh! Yeah, Willow…” Tara closed the door behind the red head, leading her into the living room followed by Terri. “…These are my friends from school, Terri, Marie, Candace and Lexi. Everyone, this is a really close friend of mine, Willow.” All six girls exchanged smiles.

“Well Willow, why don’t you join us, we’re just about to play a game.” Terri said all excited.

Willow looked at Tara and smiled lightly, “Sure, I’ll stay for a bit.”

“Good.” Tara smiled back and ran to get the pens, paper and the hat she left on the chair.

“So what is this game?” Willow asked curiously.

“Oh, um, you write some questions you’d like to hear from another player and we put them in a hat, mix them and then we take turns pulling one out each and whatever question we get, we have to answer truthfully.” Lexi explained proudly.

Taking her place beside the red head, Tara couldn’t help but feel all warm inside. Even if Willow never decided to come inside and stay, Tara would’ve felt like the hell she’s been through with her mother, since Willow left…it was all worth it for that one second she layed eyes upon green orbs when she opened her door. “Honesty is required.” She added.

“Ok, but how do you know if someone’s telling the truth or not?” Willow asked the group.

“It’s all about trust.” Tara replied in a light fashion her voice was noticeably perkier.

Softly brushing her fingers over Tara’s arm, Willow grinned when she noticed a small shiver set out from the blonde. “Ok, so let’s play.”

“Great.” Candace scooted closer and grabbed paper and a pen. “I’ve got questions ready to go.” She bounced back and began to scribble.

“Hey, do you guys want anything to drink?” Tara asked, getting up from her spot.

“Oh, sure.” Terri was about to get up when the red head stopped her.

“No, let me help.” Willow softly spoke, standing up to follow the gorgeous blonde.

Tara grabbed glasses from the top cupboard and strode over to the fridge, looking at her choices slightly, she was about to bend over and grab Root Beer when she felt slender hands grasp her hips and pull her around. “Will…”

“Tara.” Willow breathed resting her forehead against the blonde’s. “I’ve missed you so much, I’ve longed to have you with me…”

“What kept you away?” Tara asked. Her forehead creased into a small frown, all of a sudden curious and aware of the red head’s absence. “I mean, you know where I live, and I’ve been by to see you…” She let the sentence linger when she noticed the pained expression on Willow’s face. “Oh Willow, I’ve missed you too.”

Shamefully hanging her head, Willow let go of the blonde and stepped back. “I shouldn’t have…”

“No. You should have Will, I’m glad you did stop by, I’m very happy that you are here.” Tara softly spoke, tucking red head behind freckled ears. “Very happy.” She whispered.

“It’s been rough Tara, leaving out there, I know you warned me, but I’m stubborn that way.”

“My offer still stands.”

“I can’t, thank you, but I can’t. I’ve started my life, and I’ve met some people who keep me company, not the best people, but it’s not so lonely. I feel really bad for not stopping by, not seeing you when I promised I would, and money’s been so tight that I’ve… and then I smell, do I smell? The others probably think I smell.” Tears flood down Willow’s cheeks.

Tara gently cupped Willow’s face and kissed the fresh tears away. “Shhh, you smell very nice Willow, like strawberries and a mix of Vanilla.” She giggled.

“I use a friends bathroom every two days for fresh water, mine doesn’t have fresh water.” Willow explained. “We should get back out there before they think I hurt you.”

“Not yet.” Tara pulled Willow closer and brushed her lips softly against the other girls.

Letting a sigh escape from her throat, Willow stretched her body against the blonde’s and stroked her back, parting her lips. Feeling Tara respond by tracing her tongue along her lips, Willow moaned softly, threading her finger in golden locks, kissing Tara deeply.

Finally breaking apart, a breath away from each other, Tara looked into Willow’s green eyes, “You could never hurt me.”

“Um Tare Bear?” Willow smiled, she waited until the blonde nodded and continued. “About this game we are about to play… Do we reveal things truthfully?”

“That is the point of the game. You mean if a question came up regarding…us?”

“Yeah.”

Tara frowned in response, not sure how to answer that really. She could tell Willow that they can be perfectly honest without no worries because the two truly do have deep feelings, or she can deny what she feels for the red head in order to save her friendships and reputation.

“Tara?” Willow stood in front of the blonde, placing a warm hand on Tara’s cheek. “We don’t have to you know, I mean, it’s not any of this is serious.”

Snapping out of her thoughts, Tara stepped back and looked at Willow in confusion. “What do mean?”

“No, I didn’t mean it like that. I meant, I know that your life is probably way more worthy then mine. You have friends and a home and people who really do care for you, you have things to lose.”

“Will, I’m not ashamed.” Tara softly spoke.

“Neither am I…but if you really wanted people to know, would you have really needed the time to think about it?” Willow traced her fingertips over the blonde’s jaw line.

“Why don’t we just go and play and see where it takes us.” Tara finally vocalized.

“Sure.” Willow helped Tara get the drinks poured. “Tar?”

“Yea?”

Willow leaned in and kissed Tara very lightly on the lips before turning and headed out to the living room where the rest of the girl sat and waited.

Grinning to herself, Tara licked her lips and followed her red head.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“Tray?” Anna called from the kitchen. She was looking at papers and files that she had grabbed from the City Hall.

Walking into the kitchen, Tray-Al stood silently before making her presence noticed. “Mrs. Summers?”

“Oh sweetie, please, have a seat.” Anna Summers smiled and watched as the young teen sat down.

Tray looked around the table and noticed her name on many of the papers. “What’s this?” She asked politely but curious.

“You ran away.” The older woman never looked up.

“I did.”

“Tray…I’m sorry to hear about your father.” Anna said in a pained voice. She had known Michael since they were teens, they were high school sweethearts and a part of her never did stop loving him. He fathered two of her daughters. “You have a sister?”

“Tara.” Tray began to fidget a bit in her seat. “She’s back home in New York with our mother.”

Nodding silently, Anna looked up at Tray and took her by the hand. “Do you regret running away?”

Tray-Al looked down and bit her bottom lip. No, in a way she does not regret getting out of the state let alone the town they used to live in. After Tara’s and her father passed away, their lives changed, and that just wasn’t sitting well with her. She knew that Belinda would be given custody seeing as she had the legal right, but the thing she does regret is leaving the only person in her life, to ever be there for her, behind. “I couldn’t Mrs. Summers. I couldn’t stay there, I had to run and get away from the lifestyle that I would’ve lived if my mother took me in.”

“And what lifestyle is that?”

“Drug and alcohol abuse…she was never there for us before, why would she want to start now?” Tray’s voice had a trace of hatred and anger in it.

“And Tara?”

Tray-Al remained silent for a minute before taking a deep breath. “She would want nothing to do with me now. I left her behind at the shelter in the middle of the night. Alone. That’s what I regret.” Suddenly feeling a little insecure Tray’s eyes flew open to look at Anna. “You’re not sending me back are you?”

“Oh God no sweetie. We took you in and we are giving you a chance at education Mr. Summers and I want you to be happy and we’re glad you’re here.” Anna gave a file for Tray to look at. “What I want to do is, is try and get some sort of contact with your sister. I know what it’s like to have a family torn apart. I don’t want that to happen with you and Tara.”

“This is our fathers old address. Our old address.” Tray read the following papers. Frowning, she looked at the address again. “878 Bronsville Dr… Mrs. Summers, I don’t think we’ve ever lived in that area before, I mean, dad has, but not Tara and I…”

“Why don’t you take those files to your room and maybe take a look at them whenever you get the chance.” Anna smiled.

“Where did you get all of this anyway?”

“I have a friend that works at the City Hall. Besides, you came to me… and now I’m taking care of you. It’s only fair I know some part of your background.” Seeing that Tray had accepted that, she smiled again. “Ok, Buffy told me Xander is coming over in a bit. Did you want him to stay for dinner?”

“Of course she does.” Buffy grinned from the doorway.

“Buffy.” Tray blushed.

“I’ll make something good for dinner, Buffy, since your father is out of town again, why don’t you invite Cordelia over as well.” Anna started to clear the table.

“Sure.” Buffy skipped to the phone and dialled Cordelia’s number.

“Thank you Mrs. Summers.” Tray-Al said quietly.

“No, don’t thank me, Xander is a nice and sweet young guy, it’s always my pleasure to have him over for dinner.”

“No, I mean, for the file…letting me look through it. Thank you.”

Smiling, Anna cupped Tray-Al’s slim face. “My sweet girl, don’t thank me yet.”

As Mrs. Summers walked away from Tray-Al, the young teen frowned slightly. < My sweet girl, don’t than me yet… >

“Ok, Cordy’s on her way over and Xander said he had to finish washing his fathers car before he can go anywhere.” Buffy bounced beside Tray.

Tray-Al smirked. “Bouncy Buffy?”

“Oh, yeah…um, I got a call today… from Milo Sedarski.” Buffy blushed. “Totally hot guy, he invited us over to his place next weekend.”

“Us?”

“Yea, you, me, Cordelia and Xander, it’s his birthday….”

“What’s today?” Tray asked, interrupting the small blonde.

“Saturday…um…the 26th.”

“Excuse me.” Tray took off to the bedroom, leaving Buffy stunned in the kitchen.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“Ok birthday girl, your turn.” Lexi smiled handing the hat over to the blonde.

Tara reached inside and mixed the tiny pieces of paper around before pulling one out. Opening it up, she blushed when she read what it said. “Kiss the girl on your left?” She looked at each of the girls and found them all just staring back at her. “Um, does this count?”

“Seeing as these are all anonymous…we can’t ask who wrote that but while you and Willow were getting the drinks, we decided to add dares too. Didn’t Willow tell you?” Terri asked.

“Oops.” Willow grinned sheepishly. “Tara, we’ve decided to put dares in as well.”

“Nice one Rosenberg.” Tara quirked an eyebrow and smirked, “Funny that… you are to my left.”

“Yes, funny that.” Willow smiled.

The four other girls exchanged looks and grinned, waiting to see if the dare would be fulfilled or not. They looked on as Tara leaned toward Willow and brushed her lips against the red heads, eyes grew wider when the saw Willow respond, pulling her closer.

“Well that was nice.” Willow whispered pulling back.

“Really?” Candace asked curiously.

Blushing, Tara sat back in her place and handed the hat to Candace. “Your turn.”

Willow and Tara glanced at each other once more before returning their attention back on the game at hand.

Tara sighed.

I wonder if the notes get thrown back into the hat after use.... if so, what if Willow gets the kiss-note ?? :) She *could* turn around I guess, heh.

Will Tray work up the nerve to actually call Tara on her birthday ? Or did she just excuse herself to go cry in a corner ? Other than that she seems happy in the Summers home, good for her.

Wowsers!

Postby Taras Shadow » Sun Jun 15, 2003 2:50 pm

Whoa! The last time I updated this was March 31st. :eek

My...I have been bad. Though, I did lose my rough copies and realized my ex has the other copy with her, so I had to wait until I tore my room apart so I could find my outline. :) Needless to say, I didn't tear my room apart, but I did find my copy so I should be updating this a lil more often then every three months. *Bad Holly*

Sorry Kittens, for those who've followed this since the beginning and those who like it, I shall try and get my act together and start making more updates! Still love me? :flirt

And wow...Check me out... I'm Sassy :p

~Part 7c~ …Happy Sweet Sixteen Tara

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Tray-Al sat on her bed and stared at the number in her hand. She didn’t know if it was best to call Tara or not. Sure it was her birthday, but would Tara even want to speak to her? And what if Tara was in a good mood, having a good birthday, and she strips her of that. Tray didn’t want to be responsible for making her little sisters birthday a sad one.

Tray slowly slipped the number in her desk, she stood up and went to the window. that’s the only thought that crossed her mind. Tara should understand why she ran away. What Tara wouldn’t understand, would be why Tray left her behind by herself. Throwing the pillow in her hand, across the room, Tray let out a frustrated whimper.

“Tray?” A male voice said on the other side of the door.

“Doors open.” Tray-Al sat on the end of her bed, and watched as Xander opened the door. “Hey.” She softly whispered.

“Hey.” The young man approached Tray quietly and sat beside her. “Are you okay?”

“Not really.” The blonde broke down and allowed Xander to hold her as she cried. “Tara hates me.” She whispered.

“How do you know that? Have you talked to her?” He asked.

“No, but I just know that if I were too, she’d either yell at me or hang up. And I’m afraid she’ll go with the hanging up scenario, that would hurt more.” Tray sniffled.

“Because she wouldn’t say nothing at all.” Xander finished her thought process.

“Exactly.”

Xander took a deep breath and turned to face the teary blonde. “Why don’t you call her…find out. Try and talk to her.”

“I can’t. It’s her birthday. What if she’s having a good time, and I spoil the mood. I don’t want to ruin my sisters sweet sixteen birthday.” Tray wiped her eyes on the sleeve of her sweater.

The young man thought about it for a moment. “Well…what if she’s having a miserable time because her big sister hadn’t called her. What if she’s hoping in all hopes that you at least contact her once to let her know you’re alive. Tray…you did leave her behind…you know she’s hurting too.” His voice was caring as he held her hand. “Buffy is like my sister, if she just got up and left without no word…I’d be very upset with her yes, but I’d like to know if she were okay.”

Tray looked in warm brown eyes. “So you’re saying I should her.”

“I’m saying it couldn’t hurt anymore then you’re hurting now.” Xander stood up and walked towards the door.

“Wait, stay.” Tray asked shyly. “Please? Just until I finish the call.”

Nodding his head, Xander sat down on her bed and held her hand for support.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Tara sat in the middle with all of her friends surrounding her. “Okay, so we’ve done the game thing, we’ve listened to music and had a singing contest, which Willow, you owe me a song.” Tara looked at the red head and smiled.

Willow smiled back. “So, now what?” She asked, looking at all of Tara’s friends.

“Presents!” Terri jumped up and grabbed her gift. “Open mine first!” She persistently said.

Tara took the gift from Terri and opened it. “Oh wow, thank you.” She picked up a neatly home-made picture frame and some bulk candy in a different small bag.

From Candace she received a twenty dollar gift certificate for the Gap, Lexi made Tara a mixed CD, and Marie gave her the ‘Ever After’ movie. A bit of sadness stretched across Tara’s face, and it wasn’t lost on Willow.

“What’s wrong?” Willow whispered in the blonde’s ear.

“Nothing…just, this movie is such a good movie. It was always Tray’s favourite.” Tara place the movie aside. “Thank you girls. So much. I love all the gifts.”

“Well I still have mine to give to you.” Willow said getting up. She placed the neatly folded bag beside Tara. “It’s um, just something I put together for you. Most of it is home-made and such. And if you don’t like it, I totally understand.”

“Willow, don’t be silly.” Tara smiled and put the bag in her lap. “So how does this thing go, of I rip the bag or tape, I have to reveal my secret crush?”

Lexi nodded excitedly. “Yes, even though it’s a bag…if at any point part of the bag comes off with the tape, you have to reveal.”

“You and you’re games.” Candace rolled her eyes.

Willow watched as Tara’s tongue peeked out between her teeth, as she concentrated on not ripping the bag.

“Oh, no rips, go me.” Tara laughed and pulled out what was in the bag. “Oh. My. God.” A set of dark wardrobe. A complete set. Dark baggy jeans, a white tank top, boxers, leather jacket, and a belt with studs outlining it, and “T.M.” for the buckle. “Willow…how’d you afford this?” She looked at the red head.

“Like I said, most of it’s home-made. Okay, so only the studs and your and Tray’s initials on the belt are home-made. But never mind the rest. I have one more for you.” Willow dropped the subject of how she came about this wardrobe.

The other girls sat there, looking at the wardrobe, wondering if Tara would actually wear something like that…like Willow.

“Will…”

Willow handed her a small box, and inside there was a small snow globe, with two angels inside, holding a small sign that read: Among you.

“Will…thank you.” Tara managed to say minutes later.

“I remembered that Tray collects them, and I thought maybe, um… well, just because she’s not here, doesn’t mean the collection should stop just like that.” Willow smiled softly and pulled Tara close to her.

“Tara, are you crying?” Marie stepped forward.

“It’s nothing, I’m okay.” Tara wiped her eyes and smiled. “Really.” She confirmed.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

After hours of playing more made up games and watching movies, Willow decided it was time for her to go. “I had a great time.” She grabbed her coat and smiled at Tara.

Tara stood there silently before sighing. “I…I don’t want you to go yet.”

“Well, I would say come with me, but you have company. Besides, I have people to meet.” Willow looked over at Tara’s friends. “I really did have a good time.”

Tara smiled sadly. “Um, how did you afford this?” She asked holding up the bag.

“I have my ways.” Willow winked. The horror look on Tara’s face, made Willow realize that what she said, came out wrong. “Oh no, Tara…nothing like that. I just, I have these friends who know connections and stuff. Don’t worry, nothing illegal. I promise.”

Tara looked around and finally grabbed her new leather coat. “Do you mind f we come along?” She asked.

“No, not at all. But isn’t your mom coming home soon? And can your friends handle it?” Willow rose an eyebrow and smirked.

“I’m sure they can manage.” Tara smiled and gave the girls a choice of following or going home.

As they were about to leave, the phone rang. Tara told them to hold on, that it wouldn’t take long. Willow stayed inside. “Hello?” Tara said, a bit cautiously just in case it was her mom.

Silence.

“Hello?” Tara tried again. She heard a young mans voice muffled in the background.

“Tara?” A voice whispered.

Eyes went wide, and Tara sat on the stool beside the table. “Who is this?” She didn’t want to get her hopes up high. Tray-Al.

“Happy birthday Tare.” Tray said quietly.

“Tray?” Tara couldn’t believe it. It’s been a long time since she heard that voice. Weeks. Months. Who knew… she just knew it felt like forever. “Thank you.”

Silence.

“Where are you?” Tara asked a moment later.

“Don’t worry, I’m in safe hands, with a good family…” Tray slapped herself. Wrong thing to say.

“A good family?…” Tara felt her chest burn and her eyes sting.

Willow walked into the kitchen to find Tara clutching the phone. “Tara, are you okay?” She whispered.

Shaking her head, Tara let the phone fall from her hands and broke down. Emotions flooded through her and she couldn’t settle on just one. Sad because she couldn’t pull her sister in a hug for being safe, angry because her sister left her for something better, and even more angrier for allowing her emotions take over birthday.

Willow picked up the phone and was about to talk when Tara took it from her and hung up. So her sister was safe and in good hands. That’s great.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“Hello?” Tray said again before a beeping sound on the other end. “She hung up. I knew it…now look what I did Xander.”

Xander sat there and continued to hold Tray. “She knows your safe at least.”

“That…but is she?” Tray looked up at him with tear stained eyes.

“I don’t know Tray-Al, we don’t have power over that. I mean, you do, you could always go back, but that’s up too you.”

“No, I’m not going back. I can’t.”

“Then no one has that power…except for those in Tara’s life…and you’re not.” Xander said truthfully.

Tray screamed in her head. But Xander was right. She was no longer a part of her life. And she just had to realize that, that started the moment she walked away from that cot in the shelter, a long while ago.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Willow managed to drag Tara out of the house. She didn’t know exactly what the blonde was feeling at the moment, because of her closing up. Finally reaching the place she had to meet her two friends, Willow allowed the girls to go in before her.

Inside it was smoky and had the smell of stale beer. Tara looked around and felt Willow grab her hand. “Will…is this a bar?”

“Not really. It’s a hang-out. Cool part is, a cop’s son owns this place, so it’s pretty much legal here, to drink and such.” Willow smiled and found the people she was looking for.

“Why hello pet, you decided to join us at last.” Spike put out his cigarette. “Well what do we have here…fresh meat.” He growled lightly.

Tara looked at him and smirked. This guy was so not intimidating.

“Fresh meat?” Fred said in her Texan accent. She slapped Spike across his shoulder blade.

Willow shook her head. “This is Tara…Tara, meet Spike and Fred…Winifred.”

Tara shook their hands and watched as her own friends looked a little frightened. “You guys okay?” She asked.

“Tara…I think we should get going. This place doesn’t look safe.” Terri said.

“Look, I trust Willow.” Tara said seriously.

Terri looked a little annoyed by Tara’s answer. “Whatever…I’m going…we’re going.” She walked out the door. “You coming?” She yelled through the screen door. The other girls followed and waited for Terri. “Tara?”

Tara looked a little torn but made up her mind. Leaving meant going home, going home meant Belinda, Belinda meant trouble. Plus what of Tray called again. She couldn’t handle all that just yet. “I’m staying.”

“Fine.” The group of girls walked off, onlookers watching them dodge cigarette butts and beer bottles.

“I’ll get you home safe.” Willow whispered in Tara’s ear.

Fred smiled. “So is this the girl that you pine…” She was stopped by a pinch on the arm. “Ow!” She jumped. “What the hell was that for?” She glared at the red head.

Tara raised an eyebrow. “Pine?”

“Everyone, it’s Tara’s sixteenth birthday.” Willow yelled and everyone hollered back. “What would you like to drink?” She asked her blonde…feeling more confident, she slipped her arm around the blonde’s waist and caressed the skin from underneath the leather coat.

“What are you having?” Tara asked Willow.

“Not sure…can I drink you?” Willow cocked her head to the side and kissed Tara softly. “I’ll be right back with two cokes.”

Tara settles into her seat beside Fred. She watched as the young adults danced and drank. Making loud noises and laughing. Some made out in the far corner, other made out in the open. Finally feeling relaxed, she was here with Willow… she let herself get into the music and into the crowd, and vowed that this would be a birthday that she would never forget.

Woo and Hoo! I was never in this kind of situation, but I think that Tray's call and telling her she was safe was a pretty selfish thing to do. She could have told her not to worry, but no, she had to say I'm in safe hands. I know she didn't intend to say it, but she should have realized what it would do to her.

Anyways, love Willow's gifts, so thoughtful, and well, leather! :grin
