Chapter 7: Times like these...
Times like these where perfect, Tara thought. Her and Willow were sprawled on top of old sheets and pillows in Willows' basement; snuggling and kissing and just being two young girls in love. At the moment they were working on the latter, their lips opening and closing against each others mouths. Tara smirked as she felt Willows' increasingly adventorous hand slide from her waist to her chest, stopping to rest on her left breast.
"What are you doing?" She arched an eyebrow at her girlfriend.
"Huh?" Willow asked, confused .
Tara looked pointedly at her chest, Willows' hand still on her breast.
Willow slowly pulled her hand away, looking at it as if it'd grown an extra talking finger, "it's possesed!"
Tara giggled at her girlfriends' silliness, resting her head on Willows' neck, "should I call an exorcist, Darling?"
"Nah, it's perfectly natural for a Willow-hand to be drawn to Tara-Type-Touching."
"uh-huh...and vice-versa" Tara said snuggling further into the crook of Willows' neck.
"You betcha....no Willow can survive without those incredibly essential T's..."
Tara pulled away to face Willow, "those?...you only mentioned one...what's the rest?" she asked, smirking slightly.
Willow smirked wickedly, "Tara-touching ,Tara-time, Tara-talks....Tara-tits"
Tara pushed Willow onto the pillows playfully before she could finish, "you're horrible!"
Willow rolled around giggling, "That's why ya love me."
Tara straddled Willows' lap, and ran her hand through her girlfriends' freshly cut now shorter hair lovingly,
"I love you because of all the reasons that make you, you."
"And I love you too... the whole Tara package" Willow whispered, resting her hands on Tara's waist.
"And Will?" Tara asked sliding her hands from Willows' hair to rest on top of Willows' hands.
"Yeah?"
Tara guided Willows' hands, slowly, away from her waist in through her shirt and up her stomach, to rest on her bra-clad breasts, "I like when you touch me..."
Yes, times like these where perfect; the last month two weeks and four days had been perfect.
"Tara...your dad wants you home!" Mr. Rosenberg called from upstairs, not wanting to go down to the basement and see anything he wasn't supposed to and very much didn't want to; he trusted his daughter.
Both girls sighed pathetically...time moved much too quickly when things were perfect.
********************
Willow parked her bike near Tara's trailer. Ok so maybe it was a little late to be visiting her girlfriend but she highly doubted Tara'd mind a midnight-Willow-visit; it wasn't the first time she'd snuck in through the girls window, she just had to be quiet...and careful...and *quiet*.
"Ow!" Willow landed face first on Taras' floor, she turned to her girlfriend who was sitting on her bed; her legs crossed
and her head bowed so her hair was covering her face from Willows' view, "you need to get a bigger window Baby, lower to the ground maybe?"
"What's wrong?" She stood and walked to the bed to sit next to Tara; feeling suddenly nauseous, not because of her fall,
but because something was threatening her and Tara's happiness, she knew. She took Tara into her arms and felt the girls' arms wrap tightly around her neck, her head fell on her chest and she felt tears on the skin there and knew that soon she'd feel tears stinging her eyes as well. She stroked Tara's hair and just held her, waiting until Tara felt ready to tell her what was wrong so she could fix it.
"We-we're..." Tara took a shuddering breath, "W-w-w-we're mo-moving."
"To a different street...but still in Sunnydale?" Willow asked hopefully.
Tara shook her head, a fresh batch of tears stinging her eyes...how much had she cried today?
"To a different city, still in california, very *near* to Sunnydale?"
Again Tara shook her head, "O-oregon."
"Oregon, what's there, why Oregon?"
"U-uncle Mike."
"Who works as a bartender...what about him?"
"M-m-my d-d-dad lost his j-job...uncle M-mike's letting him work at his b-bar, w-we're gonna st-stay at his tr-trailer park" Tara got out.
"Tara," WiIlow began, wanting the right words to flow out of her mouth for once instead of a sea of wrong ones.
She gently cupped Tara's face, shifting so they could look at one another; she stopped upon seeing Tara's face,
not wanting to believe what she saw, wanting it to be a trick of the moonlight; but knowing deep in her heart and
in the pit of her stomach that it wasn't. "What happened?" She got out, her voice sounding uncharacteristically low
and rough to her own ears, "and please don't tell me you fell."
Even more tears fell from her eyes down to her bruised cheeks, "I-I t-told h-h-him I didn't want to m-m-move; th-that I w-wanted to st-stay here...l-live w-with my aunt...and he-he'd b-been drinking...it doesn't h-happen *all* the time."
"Once is enough!...It's happened before?" Willow asked, barely being able to contain her anger.
Tara had only ever seen Willow this angry once before; they were nine and Donny had shoved her to the ground as her and Willow were walking to the park; she scraped her knee badly and had ended up needing stitches but it had been worth it; she didn't know if Donny had been caught by surprise or if a nine year old Willow was truly that much stronger than a twelve year old Donny but the boy had got his behind handed to him that day. Up until then Tara had never seen anyone but her mother stand up to Donny; and she had certainly never seen anyone hit Donny especially not to defend her honor. Willows' demeanor now reminded her so much of how she'd been that day; so angry and protective.
Willows eyes widened in realization, "All those times...I asked you what had happened; and you always fell, or you
tripped, or you stumbled into....you lied to me; you didn't trust me..." Willow felt as if all the oxygen in her body had left
her; she was feeling so many things and all of them more horrible than the next. Where had she been a week ago? Or
even just a day ago? "I trusted you more than anyone..." she turned to Tara, not a trace of anger or malice in her voice,
she just wanted to understand..."was all that just a lie?"
Tara's heart tore open at the look on Willows' face, her own face mottled with bruises; her cheeks tinted pink along with
her eyes from hours of crying, "No! He-he's a good f-father...w-when he's sober, he j-just has a prob-problem...p-please don't tell."
Willow sighed, and looked down before taking her girlfriend back into her arms and looking her right in the eyes, "I won't tell, but there's no way in heck I'm letting you stay with them...do you have the address?"
Tara nodded, looking into Willows' eyes; amazed at the strength she found there...at the utter love and devotion...was all that for her?
Willow reached into her pants and pulled out her Hello-Kitty wallet; she took out a random business card and a pen from
Tara's dresser, "write it down" she said as she pulled Tara against her yet again, stroking her hair gently and planting loving kisses all around her cheeks; wary of the bruises. "When are they moving?"
"T-t-tommorow" Tara said softly handing the card back to Willow, "ear-early."
"Early early, or drunk early?"
Tara smiled sadly, "d-depends, but I'm betting on the latter" she said snuggling into Willows' neck.
Willow held onto Tara tighter, she looked up and noticed something; "you're not packed."
"M-mobile home" Tara whispered.
"Right..." Willow nodded, "it...uh....can move" she looked down at the address in her hand and turned to Tara, "when you're there; make sure you're always in your room by nine, and always leave the window open, and pack your things...only the important ones so no one gets suspicious, I'll be calling you on my cell phone to let you know how close I am...and if he tries anything again before I get there just leave and I'll try as hard as I can to meet you somewhere as soon as possible."
Tara frowned, "I d-don't un-understand..."
"I'm gonna go and get you...I'm gonna save you; we're gonna run away and be together forever" Willow said, looking lovingly into Tara's eyes.
Tara looked at the bright, strong green eyes in front of her and believed the girl completely.
