They finally reached Willow’s door. She fumbled with the key, trying to get it into the lock. They didn’t get to talk much about what they really wanted to know at The Pump, and Willow invited Tara in.
“Well, since we didn’t get to do what we wanted to at the Espresso Pump, do you want to come in, and we could talk. . . we could do something else too, like play chess, or tonsil hockey.”
Tara blushed at the last remark. They walked into the living room and sat next to each other on the couch. Their hands entwined, neither one of them noticing the constant touch, and movement. There was an awkward silence that seemed to last for hours. Willow realized their hands, looking down at them she smiled. Tara looked down and smiled that lopsided smile of her’s that everybody loves. Willow’s eyes moved up to Tara’s face and felt a shiver run up her back. Deciding to finally end the silence Tara picked a random question for Willow.
“That was a little too much silence . . . umm, what bands do you like?”
Tara and Willow continued to caress each other’s hands, not noticing what they were doing.
“Well, for being in a punkish ska band, I don’t really like any punkish ska bands. Faith and Buffy love that kinda thing. It’s okay I guess. I like some older stuff, Nirvana is good, Led Zeppelin, Joan Baez has an amazing voice, your voice reminds me of her. Whatever is playing at The Bronze is good most of the time. What about you, what do you like?”
“Thanks, I didn’t even know I sounded like anybody but me. I don’t think you’ll know some of these bands, they’re not too popular here, Distorted Penguins are good, Jeff Buckley is my favorite probably, Led Zeppelin the only song I know from them is Stairway to Heaven and I like that.”
“I love Stairway to Heaven . . . I guess I should ask something . . . is this a date, we’re in a band together, shouldn’t there be rules or something?”
Willow realized what she said, and seeing Tara frown she figured out how her question came out wrong.
“I like you, I like you a lot, but the band does matter to me . . . I want this, with you, but . . . I . . . I don’t know what I’m trying to say.”
Willow thought it through again and tried to explain herself
“If we date, and break up, what will happen to the band, will you still be here?”
Tara absorbed Willow’s words and tried to calm her. She stroked the back of Willow’s hand with her thumb while she spoke.
“Willow, it’s okay. If anything happens, it happens. Don’t let it bother you now, if we brake up before the band does, then we’ll deal, but for now, I want you to be my girlfriend.”
Willow thought, and Tara’s words made sense to her.
“We’re girlfriends, I didn’t think I would get to say that to anybody.”
Her words faded as she moved closer to Tara. Willow shifted slightly, as did Tara. Their lips were so close to touching, they closed their eyes, and bridged the gap that separated them. Willow’s tongue sought out Tara’s. They both let out a sensual moan from the contact, their hands groping trying to find something to grab on. After what seemed like a short period of time for the two of them, Tara abruptly ended the kiss, pushing Willow away. She looked at Willow, trying to figure out the right words to say.
“We should take things slow, we still don’t know that much about each other.”
“I don’t have a middle name, so my full name is Willow Rosenberg, in my free time I study for school, and play guitar in a band called The Scabbiest. My favorite hang outs include The Bronze, and Espresso Pump. I am currently taken by you, and would like more smooched.”
Willow spoke lightning fast, hoping that Tara would just continue their activity. Willow leaned in for another kiss, and Tara pushed her back, again.
“Do your friends know?”
“Know what?”
“Do your friends know you are attracted to women, are you out?”
Willow pondered that question, trying to think if her friends knew.
“They might, they know I have a thing for Angelina Jodie, and that I don’t like guys, well, they don’t know any guys I like, which I don’t. I just, I don’t know if I want them to know, you know? I’m afraid they’ll treat me differently, plus this being my first relationship I don’t want to screw it up. I’ll tell them, but not now.”
“I know what you mean, my family didn’t take it too well either, but I think Buff and Faith won’t care, just remind them you’re still you.”
Tara looked down at her watch, and noticed the time. It was past her curfew, way past curfew.
“I-I-I have to go, it’s late.”
Tara rushed towards the door, and Willow stopped her.
“Tara, wait. You can call home and just say you are staying with a friend. Bring up the us being a couple might not be the best idea. Plus, it’s dark out and scary things are out there, I want you here.”
Willow gave Tara the puppy dog eyes, and little pout which made Tara give in.
“Okay, I’ll stay, I’ll just have to call home.”
Willow ran to get the phone, smiling with a little skip in her step. Luckily for Tara and Willow nobody was at the Mackay home, so Tara just left a message, and Willow’s parents were away on business, and were not expected back for another week.
“So, what do you want to do, we could watch a movie or sleep . . . it is getting late.”
“I’m actually surprisingly tired.”
“Yeah, me too, just a little . . . I think I might have something that you could wear.”
With that they headed to Willow’s room. Willow walked over to her dresser and pulled out pajama bottoms and tops for her and Tara. She placed one on the edge of her bed for Tara.
“I’ll go get dressed in the bathroom, you can stay here.”
They both got dressed, and Willow knocked on the door, checking that Tara was fully dressed before she walked in. They eased into bed together, Willow lied on her back with Tara in her arms on her side. Willow whispered softly
“Can you sing me a song?”
“Sure, any requests?”
“Pick something, something about us.”
Tara thought about what song she knew that was like them, and started singing.
“The truth’s not the same without you,
Cause when I go alone I sit and think about you,
And if you think that I don’t think about you,
I do, I do, I do.
When there seems there can be an end to the journey that’s at hand,
I close my eyes to see your smile,
And I’m on the road again.
But nothing’s the same without you,
Cause when I am alone I sit and think about you.
And if you think that I don’t think about you,
I do, I do, I do.”
Noticing that Willow was sleeping Tara placed a soft kiss on her cheek and said goodnight.

Tara left in the morning after breakfast, kissing Willow passionately before her departure. That was their first date.
So, what did you think, good first date, bad? Hopefully testing next week won’t be too bad and I could update sooner. I do know that the next update will be around 3 months into them being together, and before their first show.
