hi,

Thank you for the fic.

I love the start. more on about Tara. hmmm. and the way she just found out for herself that she's into girls. I like it.

and its funny :D . The way you made it seem to Tara that she is discovering her true self. Then looking for the redhead once in a while..not consciously looking but still wanting to see the redhead.

thanks again.

Tara sat up straight as she watched the redhead slowly step into the room. Everyone who wasn't asleep already turned to look at the newcomer. The young girl fidgeted slightly under the scrutiny of the class while waiting to be acknowledged by the teacher. Mr. Tevinson probably would have continued on with his dull one-man show had the redhead not nervously said, "Excuse me."

Slightly startled, he looked up. "Who are you, and what do you want?" he asked, annoyed at the interruption.

"Willow, sir," she stated as she handed him a slip of paper with her schedule on it, "I'm suppose to be in your class. Well, of course, I'm supposed to be here in your class. It would have been extremely rude of me to just come interrupting a class if I wasn't supposed to be in it. If I wasn't supposed to be here, I wouldn't..."

"Enough," Mr. Tevinson said heatedly. He stomped over to his desk and opened his roll book to enter her down. When he finally looked down at the slip, he stopped. "R-rosenberg? Your father isn't Ira Rosenberg, is he?"

Willow seemed reluctant to answer, but she did. "Yes, sir," she sighed.

A change came over Mr. Tevinson as he suddenly stood straight. "Well, now. Let's get you settled into a desk." He glanced at his seating chart. "There's either the chair here in the first row in front of the Maclay girl. Or, you could sit behind Mr. Levinson in the last row," he offered cordially.

Willow glanced over at the boy in the back who was snoring on his desk with his thumb in his mouth. Then she turned to look at Tara. Tara gave a shy smile, but inside she jumped up and down, waving her arms in the air, screaming, "Pick me! Pick me!"

Willow returned the grin and walked towards her new seat. "Hi," she softly said as she sat down. Tara gave a small wave, fearing that she might stutter if she spoke.

Mr. Tevinson beamed in a peculiar way as he marked her down. He went back to his stool and placed a new sheet of notes on the projector. He then began to recite animatedly from Romeo and Juliet, giving each character their own voice. All the people who were asleep awoke wondering where the noise was coming from and were greatly surprised at their teacher.

Tara was among the confused, but she didn't give it much thought. She concentrated very hard on the girl in front of her. This has to be a dream, she thought. I fell asleep like everyone else, and I'm having this bizarre dream. I hope I don't wake up. If Tara leaned forward, she could have felt the silkiness of the girl's vibrant red hair. Willow. Her name is Willow, she sighed. That is so my new favorite name. The rest of the period passed quickly. The ringing bell broke Tara's contemplation of Willow's hair.

Everyone began gathering their things. As Willow put her note book into her backpack, Tara opened her mouth to speak, but no words came forth. Come on, Tara. Willow swung her bag onto her shoulders. "W-willow, d-do you..." Tara stammered out. Willow grinned as she turned to look at her. With confidance, Tara offered, "I could show you your next class, if you want."

Willow's grin widen into a full-blown smile. "I would totally appreciate that. Thanks." Tara grabbed her binder and book quickly. Both girls walked out of the classroom together.

I am sorry if they seem a little short folks. Unfortunately life gives only a little time to work on these. So i figure rather than making y'all wait along time for a full update (which is something i hate doing), I will give you what i have managed to finish. Just let me know if you want it quick and fast or easygoing and slow.

Students milled around their lockers chatting during their few moments of freedom. "I have biology right now. Room 213. You sure walking me there won't make you late for your class?" Willow asked as they walked down the semi-crowded hallway.

"I've got P.E. Trust me, I'm in no hurry to get there." Tara replied as she made a stop at her locker to drop her binder and book off. "I've done the 'being new' thing, and would have loved help finding stuff." She shut her locker. Eager to know as much as she could about the redhead, she asked, "So where did you move from?"

"I didn't," Willow stated as they continued towards her class. "Lived in Sunnydale my whole life."

Tara's confusion was evident on her face. "You didn't go to the junior high, did you?" How could I have missed you? she thought. The pair rounded a corner and started up a small flight of stairs.

"My parents home-schooled me. My dad is big on education." Willow deepened her voice to impersonate her father, "He says 'Sunnydale's schools are lacking, but that'll change soon.' I only went to the elementary and junior high schools to take major tests. Kind of a state required thing."

That explains it. Tara slowed to a stop as they neared the classroom. "I-if your dad is so into school and stuff, how come you weren't here the first day of school?" Tara's eyes widen at her bold question. It's none of your business, Tara. You shouldn't be prying. "Sorry, you don't have to answer," she quickly said as she looked down at her shoes.

Willow touched Tara's shoulder. "It's okay. It's nothing major. I was with my mom in New York. When dad wasn't filling my head with knowledge of government and history, she would take me with her on her business trips." Willow giggled a little. "She's the one who finally put the foot down with him on my attending an actual school. She felt that I reached the age where socializing with my peers is tantamount with my education. She's a psychologist, if you can't tell already."

Tara grin lopsidely. "Well, if you want, I can help you catch up with English. I'm pretty much the only one who can stay awake during Tevinson's class."

"You mean he isn't always that energized about Shakespeare?" Willow asked in a scandalized voice. Tara shook her head, giggling. "I knew it."

"I have no idea what got into him." Tara said as she checked her watch. About a minute left 'til the bell.

"Because of me," Willow stated matter-of-factly.

Tara's brow scrunched up. "Why would he do it because of you?"

        "My dad."

Now Tara was really confused. "Huh? Your dad?"

Willow got a slightly mystified look on her face. "You really don't know who Ira Rosenberg is?"

Tara shrugged. "I'm guessing your dad."

Willow chuckled. "Silly. My dad is the mayor of Sunnydale."

"Oh," Tara felt slightly embarassed. "I-I g-guess that would explain why he is into education." Tara fiddled with the hair band on her wrist. "I have't really lived that long in Sunnydale." The shrill of the bell rang out. "I guess I better get going."

Willow watched as all the students rushed past into the classrooms. "I do have one question before you go."

        "Sure."

Willow spoke quickly, "I should have asked this at the beginning of this whole conversation, but we got to talking, and then it didn't seem too important at the time, though it is really important. It's just I only know half the answer, and I'm the type that needs completion..."

        "Willow, the question?" Tara grinned.

"Oh, yeah. Well, I only know your last name because the teacher had said it. What's your first name?"

        "O-oh m-my g-god, I'm such an i-idiot," Tara freaked out.

Willow interrupted. "You're not an idiot. Far from it. It just didn't come up until now." She looked expectantly at the blonde.

"T-tara," she spoke softly. God, I can't even say my own name right. If she didn't before, she must think I'm an idiot now.

"Tara, pretty name. Well It's been great meeting you, Tara Maclay." Willow called back as she rushed into her biology. Every new person can get away with being a few minutes late on their first day.

She likes my name. Tara grinned like a fool. She took a couple of steps back, her eyes still on the door Willow entered. She glanced down at her watch. Oh god, I'm late for P.E.! She spun and took off down the hallway.

Xander sat a small circular table in the corner of the cafeteria. He munched on his sandwich while flipping through a comic book. Every now and then, he glanced up to search for Tara. Lunch period had started over ten minutes ago. Finally the blonde pushed through the double doors, her eyes finding Xander immediately, and slowly walked over to the table. She plopped down on the seat and rested her head on the table. Xander noticed that her hair was semi wet from sweat and her face was extremely red. "Did you just get done running a marathon?" the skater asked as he offered her his bottle of water.

Without a word, she took the water and started chugging. Xander's eyebrows shot in the air as he watched her. She set the half empty bottle down, and took a deep calming breath. "I was pretty late to P.E. by the time I finally got dressed. Coach Kirkland made me stay after and run a mile on the track." she slowly related. Tara grabbed the bottle again, but this time she slowly sipped at it. She started to pull her own lunch out, but then the thought of food after her exertions made her sick.

"You were late to a class? You?" Xander said astonished. "Why were..." He stopped as a redhead approached their table. I've seen her somewhere before, he thought as he smiled.

"Hi, Tara," Willow said to the blonde, and then turned to Xander, "Hi. Is it cool if I sit with you guys?"

"Willow!" Tara said a bit high pitched. Unconsciously, she started fixing her hair. "Totally cool. This is Xander. Xander you don't mind, right?" she slightly stressed the question.

Xander couldn't help but notice Tara's odd behavior. Interesting. "Sure, she can sit with us. The more the merrier, " he nodded as the girl took a seat. "Your name's Willow?" The redhead nodded. Xander thought a moment and then realized, "That's where I know you from. I've seen your picture in the newspaper. Daughter of the Mayor."

Willow shifted uncomfortably. "Yeah, probably," she affirmed. She started pulling out a small tupperware where her lunch was neatly arranged inside.

That's so cute, Tara thought as she watched the girl. "So, how was biology, Willow?" Tara asked after a moment.

Willow looked up and smiled. "I think it's probably going to be my favorite class. I've always loved science stuff ever since I was little. We have this small pond in the backyard. I used to just sit there and enjoy all the life around me. Then one day a frog jump onto my head and scared the bejeezes out of me. I kinda have a fear of frogs now, but I still love biology and nature." Noticing the other two people staring at her, Willow wound down. "I stayed after class a little bit so Mrs. Collins could give me everything I needed to catch up on. That's why I was late for lunch." She took a bite of her sandwich.

"Wow," Xander said as he tried to process everything she had just uttered. "You're in Mrs. Collins class? So am I. You came in late, right?"

        "S-sorry, I f-forgot," Tara stammered sheepishly.

"Yeah, Tara and I were talking outside the room, but we didn't let the bell stop us." Willow chuckled.

"So that's why you were late to P.E. then?" Xander stated more than asked. All the pieces began to fall into place for him. Very interesting, indeed. He smirked. I know your secret. Ha-HaHa-HaHa-Ha, he thought childishly.

Willow looked stricken. "You didn't get into trouble, did you?" The readhead placed a hand over the blonde's.

"N-no. No trouble," Tara in an attempt to ease Willow's guilt. Tara saw the smirk and mischievous glint in his eye. Willow pulled away relieved. Her hand fit so well in mine, Tara thought, but she didn't fully comprehend the implications.

Xander gazed at Tara with a questioning look. Tara glanced at him and shrugged. Willow took in how close they sat next to one another and how intimate they behaved. "Are you two a couple?" she asked innocently.

Xander had just taken a bite out of his sandwich and started to choke. Tara patted him hard on the back. She looked slightly appalled as she answered, "Us? No. N-never. W-wouldn't even think of it as a minute possibility." Xander swallowed his food and reached for the bottle of water only to find it empty. Willow offered him her fruit punch.

When he had caught his breath, he started to say, "Actually I'm g..OW!." Tara kicked him on his shins. Taking the painful hint, he lied horribly, "Old skateboarding accident. My knee twitches uncontrollably sometimes, and I just hit the legs of the table. Anyways, i was gonna say that I'm a total guy. Gotta keep my options open. Always on the prowl. Tara and I are just best friends." He grinned hoping that Willow bought his story.

"Ok," Willow said after a moment. The slight tension she felt in her stomach eased up. Yea! They aren't together, she thought. Being a third wheel would've sucked.

The bell rang signalling everyone to get moving. Hoards of people got up, and most threw their trash away. Xander, Tara, Willow gathered their stuff. "So what do you have now, Will?" Xander asked over her shoulder as he followed the two girls in the hall.

"Journalism," Willow answered as she checked the room number. "Do you know where..."

Tara interrupted. "I have it, too." She smiled her lopsided grin. "We'll see you later, Xander," Tara called to her friend as she lightly pulled Willow in the right direction.

"Oh, don't worry, Tara. I can find my math class," he quipped. Willow and Tara sitting in a tree, he started to hum lightly as he walked down the corridor.

It's My Life Part 4E

By Cherry Avenger

see disclaimers in first part.

After the teacher took roll, Tara showed Willow around the "newsroom" (aka the classroom with a small corner dedicated to the computers where the editors designed their pages.) Willow whispered in Tara's ear, "Dad think most reporters are a bunch of gossip columnists."

"I must be the paparazzi, then," Tara quipped. Both girls broke down into giggles as they looked into each other's eyes.

The moment was broken when a short scrawny blond boy walked up. "Hey Tara," he said in a prepubescent voice. "When am I getting that interview with you brother?"

Tara, never normally mean, was very irritated at his interruption. "Andrew, why don't you be a real reporter and go get it yourself."

Andrew remained oblivious to Tara's tone. "But Tara, you're supposed to be my anonymous inside source."

"I'll talk to him tonight about it, okay?" she said in hopes of appeasing the boy enough for him to leave.

"Cool," he saw a tall brown haired guy leaving the classroom. "Hey Warren, wait up for me." He ran to catch up to the guy.

Willow turned to Tara. "Why does he want to interview your brother?"

"Oh, he's like the best wide receiver this school has had in years." Tara sat down and pulled out her notebook. It had all the upcoming events she was supposed to help the Head Photographer, Sabrina, cover. "He's got a lot of colleges vying for him. I'm proud of him. Though don't tell him I said that. It's hard enough to live with his big head already."

Willow held up three fingers. "Girl Scout's honor."

She's adorable, Tara thought. "We better get you an assignment. Don't want you falling behind." The blonde looked up to find the Editor-in-Chief in the mass of milling students. "Hey Keri." Tara got up to go talk to her.

While Tara was speaking to Keri, Willow glanced around the room. Her emerald eyes fell upon a boy with spikey blue hair. He sat in the corner typing quietly. Feeling someone watching him, he turned and caught her looking quickly away. A thoughtful look crossed his face. Then he went back to his typing.

Tara came back with Keri in tow. "I gotta go help Sabrina in the darkroom, but I'll see you later, afterschool?" Willow nodded and Tara couldn't help but smile as she grabbed her stuff and left.

"Hey, Willow, I'm Keri," the energetic girl said. "I've got a few story ideas we really want covered this issue."

"That's good. I'm up for anything. Anything to help. Just consider me the little helper," Willow took a breath. "Just one question, though. Who's the guy in the corner?"

Keri glanced over and smiled. "That's Oz, our Entertainment Editor. He plays bass in one of the local bands, so he tends to always cover the music events and stuff." Keri pulled a piece of paper from her folder. "So I was hoping that you would want to maybe write an opinion article about..."

Willow walked along with Tara and Xander after school. "So good first day, Will?" Xander asked.

"School is fast becoming one of my favorite things," Willow announced brightly. She didn't see the incredulous look on his face. "So whatcha both up to tonight?"

"Xander was gonna come over and study. We'll probably end up watchin' a movie," Tara answered. Tara's brow furrowed as she seemed to search for the right words. "Do you...maybe...if you want to...You could come hang out with us." There, Tara thought, the offer is out there. She chose to ignore Xander's smirk.

"Really? I would love to come over," Willow replied excitedly. Just then a black mercedes pulled up and kept paced. Willow groaned as the window rolled down to reveal a dark haired gentlman in a gray suit. "We don't take candy from strangers." Willow purposefully walked ahead without turning around. Xander and Tara followed, but kept glancing back at the car.

The gentleman drove a head a little and parked. Tara and Xander tensed as the unknown man got out of the car. He called out in a British accent as he walked towards them, "Why must you be so difficult, Miss Willow?"

Willow sighed. Then she put on an insincere smile and said way too sweetly, "I have no idea what you are talking about, Wesley."

"Did you not see me in front of the school waiting for you?" he asked as he came up to the teenagers.

"Yes Wes, I did see you. I just wanted to walk home with my friends," Willow answered. Tara and Xander could only watch as Willow and, apparently, her driver conversed heatedly.

"You do remember the hospital fundraiser tonight, don't you? Your father would not be pleased if you weren't ready on time." He held his hands out for her school things which she handed over to him.

"I don't want to go. It's not like anyone notices me anyway," Willow started to really argue. "Besides, I've been invited to another prestigious event."

"And that would be?" Wesley arched an eyebrow.

"Videos at Tara's house. And I'm going."

"Miss Willow, please. There is a reporter that has been lurking around the school today. He's probably watching us right now. Your father wouldn't appreciate a scene." Wesley scanned the surrounding area. "I can give your friends a ride home, just please get in the car now."

Willow got a slightly apprehensive look on her face at the mention of the reporter. She caved. "Fine." She turned to her new friends. "Do you guys want a ride?"

Xander and Tara followed Willow into the back seat of the car. Wesley got in and started the engine. He looked in the rearview mirror at the defeated posture of the redhead. "I'm sorry, Miss Willow. I know you don't want to go tonight, but your father insists." Willow huffed. Wesley noticed the blonde girl reach out a hand to start rubbing Willow's back. The redhead immediately calmed down. "However, you are totally free tomorrow. Maybe if your friends would like to come over, you all could watch your movie on the plasma screen? I'll ask your father, but I think it should be alright."

"Do you guys wanna?" Willow asked in a small voice.

        "Sure!" "Absolutley" came in unison.

        "Cool," Willow brightened once again.

Tara brought a soda for herself and Xander from the kitchen. She flopped on the couch next to him. Her thoughts immediately went to Willow. She must be so lonely.

Xander flipped to an old episode of Ren and Stimpy and put it on mute. "You wanna explain why I have a huge bruise on my leg now?" he started as he turned to face her more.

"Huh? What did you say?" Tara faced him.

"Big blue bruise...on my leg....why?" he pointed at the injury.

"I'm sorry, Xander. Did you want some ice?" Tara made to get up.

Xander grabbed her forearm and kept her seated. "No ice needed. Just kinda want to know why you didn't want me telling her I'm gay." He kept his hand in place, rubbing her wrist with his thumb to let her know he wasn't mad.

Tara gathered her thoughts. "She would've asked if I was gay, too. I'm quite happy in my closet, thank you. Have it decorated just the way I want," she tried to joke, but she could tell Xander wasn't buying it. "I just didn't want to scare her off. Or worse, have her freak and go tell the whole school. It can't get back to my brother, who would tell my father. I'm not ready for that."

Xander understood what she was saying, but felt that there was more to the story. "First off, Tar, I don't think Willow is that type of girl. Second off, if she did freak and outted you to the whole school, better to know now rather than later that we can't trust her."

Tara nodded her head in agreement. "I just don't want her to go," she revealed in a quiet voice.

"Because you have a crush on her," Xander said simply.

        "I don't have..."

He interrupted her by placing his finger on her lips. "Hey. What have we learned about Xander being right?"

Tara turned from him. She crossed her arms over her chest and pouted. "That it happens occasionally," she sarcastically stated.

Xander smirked and moved to sit on the coffee table in front of the girl. "Yes. It would be better if you just admitted it now." He wrapped her hands in his in a show of comfort and support.

Tara gazed at him. Her blue eyes were wide and her bottom lip trembled a little nervously. She gulped. "It's a bit more complicated than a crush."

Xander cocked his head to the side at her statement. Confusion evident in his features, "Huh? Really? You just met her today."

Tara stood abruptly. "I'll be right back," she called back as her sock clad feet pounded up the stairs. Before he could wonder where she went, she was back in the living room with a small book in her hands. She hands it to him. "Look at the last page."

Xander opened the cover of the photo album and flipped through the first few pages of pictures. "I haven't seen these in forever," he said as he turned to the last page. There was Willow sitting in the Expresso Pump. "She's crying. When did you take this?" He looked up at questioningly.

"When we did that history project. You were in the bathroom and I was fiddling with the camera. I saw her and just took the picture without thinking."

"That was like six months ago," still in shock.

"Remember when I knocked over the book cart the last day of school. Willow was in the next aisle."

"Wow. How come you never told me about her?" he asked a little hurt that his friend hadn't confided in him.]

Tara sat down again. She pulled the album away and held his hands. "I was going to. Really." She chuckled a little. "I almost started to believe that she was a figment of my imagination. That picture was the only proof I had that she existed." Tara took one hand away and caressed the picture. "I saw her crying, and all I wanted to do was make her smile. I felt connected to her. Felt that if I couldn't make her happy, I would never be happy myself."

Xander looked like a fish out of water with his mouth opening and closing as he tried to find the words. "Again, I say wow."

Tara let go of his hands and threw herself back against the couch. "That's why it's complicated. It turns out she is real, and she wants to hang out with me. With me, Xander. I'm worth her time. I can't lose that now." She begged hoping he would understand.

"What if we just let her know about me? See how she reacts." Xander attempted to lighten the situation. "She's gonna notice the drool on my chin when a cute guy walks by, anyways.

"It's easier for girls to deal with gay guys. Let her get to know me, then maybe." Tara left it open.

"So you're gonna lie until then?" Xander asked.

"I'm avoiding the truth. There's a difference. I won't outright lie if she does ask me. Just don't bring it up."

Xander could tell she had already rationalized herself into believing this was the best course. He knew he couldn't talk her out of it now. "Fine."

Such a wonderful fic! I read it before I had to go to history lecture today, and had an idiotic smile on my face the whole time. My professor was probably wondering why I was smiling through her lecture on World War Two....it's all your fault. :)

Love the fic! Update please!

Postby Cherry Avenger » Fri Apr 16, 2004 4:59 pm

This is a short part. More of an in between piece that i needed to help connect part 4 with the next part of my story. I hope y'all like it, or at the very least tolerate it until i can write up the next chapters.

It's My Life, Part 5

disclaimers same as in first post

Tara bumped open her bedroom door with her hip, careful not to spill anything off the small tray in her hands. "My mom made us some snacks and stuff," Tara explained as she set th tray on the floor by her bed.

Her heart did a flip when Willow flashed her a smile. The redhead seemed engrossed in the photo albums scattered on the bed. "Tara, you know these are really good, right?" Willow gestured at the albums. Willow had recently cut off her long hair into a bob. She pushed short locks behind her ears as she looked up at the blonde.

Tara fixated for a moment on Willow's 'pixie-hair', as Tara deemed to call it. "It's just random stuff. Not anything special," Tara shrugged.

Willow leaned over the edge of the bed to grab a small sandwich and her kool-aid off the tray. Tara couldn't take her eyes off the smooth skin of Willow's back as her shirt rode up. The redhead sat back up. "I'm serious," she said around a bite of her snack. She patted the spot next to her, wanting Tara to sit. Tara never denied Willow anything. "I've been to some of the major art museums in the country. Some of your stuff is just as good or better than stuff they exhibit." Willow turned to find Tara hiding her blushing face behind her long blonde hair. She placed her hand under the girl's chin drawing sapphire eyes to emerald. "You should really think about putting together a portfolio."

Tara couldn't breathe as she drowned in Willow's gaze. Before the moment became awkward for her, Tara nodded her head. "Maybe." Willow grinned brightly. She animatedly began to suggest which photos to use and why and in what order they should go in. The blonde sat captivated by the sound of the other girl's voice; the expressions that flickered across her face.

Tara was broken out of her reverie. "You should totally use this black and white one of Donnie. He's so cute in it. The contrast of his light hair and skin against the dark brick wall is perfect. One day, I bet, you'll be photographing some hot guy models. You so have to invite me to the shoot, if you do..."

"Hot g-guy models?" Tara asked uncertainly. In the pit of her stomach, tendrils of ice started branching their way through the comfy warm feeling she had moments ago.

"Yeah, like the Abercrombie and Fitch guys." Willow continued on, missing the very slight look of disgust that flashed over Tara's face. "It's sucks that most of them tend to be gay. No chance for us to snag one, but they are still totally hot. Xander would probably want to be at the shoot, too. Even if we can't have them, it would be totally cool to be surrounded by gorgeous men."

The small glimmer of hope Tara had held during the past 6 months, since meeting the redhead, faded into nothing. Tara forced herself to speak, "Yeah, cool." For you and Xander. "I'm gonna run to the bathroom." Tara stood up abruptly and left the room. She didn't notice the odd look Willow gave her.

Once Tara was locked inside the bathroom, let out the shudder and noise of digust she had managed to hold back. She ran the faucet and splashed some water on her face hoping to erase the images of Abercrombie boys. She dried her face and gazed at her reflection. "Guess that answers that question," she said to herself. Her reflection weakly smiled at her and looked at her with sadness and a little pity. "Guess I'm doomed to crushing on a straight girl. I'll have to ask Xander how he copes with that."

A knock on the door drew her attention. "Tara," Willow's muffled voice spoke. "You okay?"

Tara took a deep breath and straighten her shoulders. "I'm okay," Tara replied as she stepped out of the bathroom. She placed her hand on her lower stomach. "Just some cramps. Y-you know, that t-time of the month coming and all."

Willow grimaced in agreement. "Oh god, I know what you mean. Mine get so bad sometimes."

They made their way back into the bedroom. "Thanks for worrying about me," Tara whispered quietly as she started to pick up the albums off her bed.

Willow came and stood very close to the blonde. "Tara, you are my best friend. I'll always worry about you." Willow hugged Tara, trapping her arm, full of books between their bodies. Though shocked at the embrace, Tara snaked her free arm around the redhead's waist. Best friend. I guess friendship is all we'll ever have. As long as I'm close to you, I'll take whatever I can get. They both tightened the embrace before letting go. Together, they finished cleaning up.

*squeal!* It's back!

I have to say this update hit way too close to home...in the sense of "The ball was hit in through my bedroom window" too close to home. *sigh* I hate it when the one person you have your heart set on is set on being just friends. Breaks my heart. :( . However, I have a feeling Tara and Willow's relationship will go differently. ;) Can't have those two being 'just friends' on the Kitten for long.

Alrighty, folks. Here is an update...well it's more of a teaser than anything else. enjoy, and i should have the whole of this particular chapter up in a couple of days.

It's My Life part 6a

disclaimers in the first part

Tara and Willow sat in the stands of Sunnydale High School's football stadium. They watched as the junior varsity team ran through their plays over and over. "Explain to me again, why Xander is putting himself through," Willow paused as he was tackled solidly by a member of the defense, and both girls winced in sympathy, "this."

Tara shook her head. "He thinks he'll look good in the letterman's jacket." The two girls shared a giggle. Tara watched as the coach allowed the boys a break. The team gathered around the giant gatorade cooler. Tara continued, "He makes his jokes about it. He says guys in sports slap each other's butts as a show of team spirit and support." Willow nodded. "How could he pass up a chance like that." As Xander retrieved a cup, he looked up into the stand and saw his best friends. He gave his best goofy grin and made a gesture of a toast to them. "Seriously, though, I think he's doing it to get his dad's attention," Tara finished sadly as she smiled. She held her water bottle up to him. He finished his cup and ran back over to the coach.

"BE AGRESSIVE! BE-E AGRESSIVE!" Tara's eyes wandered over to the cheerleaders who were practicing further down the field. She smiled as she saw Karah Andersen completing a complex running and tumbling sequence. Some of the squad settled down on the grass as their coach ran over a part of the routine with a particular group. Karah walked behind another blonde girl and held her hands over her eyes. The blonde laughed as she turned around and playfully shoved Karah. The cheerleaders leaned their heads in close and appeared to be whispering into each other's ears.

"Hey Will," Tara turned to find the redhead watching the cheerleaders as well. "Do you know the girl Karah is talking to?"

Willow seemed lost in thought as she watched them throw a small girl in the air. "Huh?" Realizing Tara had spoken, she looked at her friend and then glanced over at the girl in question. "That's Buffy Summers. She's in my chem class. Total clutz when doing the experiments, but she's super nice." Willow went back to watching the JV team as Xander managed a decent tackle of his own. Tara watched Buffy bust up laughing from something Karah had said. She smacked the girl's bottom with her pom-pom as everyone stood up to run through the routine one more time. Tara blushed a little as slightly naughty thoughts filtered through her mind. To maintain composure, she returned her gaze back to her dark-haired best friend.

*squee*. You know, the only reason I even went to that one football game in high school (yes, I was not a social butterfly at all...) was to see the cheerleaders. Heeee. Fond memories. We had that 'be aggressive' thing too. Didn't quite understand cheerleading, but that didn't mean I couldn't admire their talent. Hehe. Loved it!

It's My Life Part 6b

By Cherry Avenger

Disclaimers in first post.

Tara watched as the breeze blew the fallen red and orange leaves across the pavement. Willow had gone back to the car to grab their jackets. Cheers and boos could be heard from the nearby football stadium where the varsity had started their game. Normally, Willow and she would be in the stands waiting for Xander to join them after changing from his gear back into street clothes. It had become their routine for the last 6 weeks since the season had started.

Tonight was different, however. "Tara, You're 16 now. All grow'd up," Willow had said earlier that afternoon while they had been getting ready for the Bronze as Xander was out playing his game. Willow set the last bobby pin in Tara's hair and allowed her to finally turn to look at herself in the mirror. Willow had pulled Tara's hair up in an a elaborate hair style. (Author's Note - think Tara's hair in Tabula Rasa. I loved that look she had going)

Willow had also done Tara's make up. It was for the most part subtle, but her friend had gone dark on the eyeliner to bring out Tara's blue eyes. Tara looked from her reflection to Willow's as she saw the girl standing next to her looking expectant for her reaction. "Thank you, Willow. I love it," Tara said gratefully to the redhead. She broke into a thousand watt smile which melted Tara's heart.

"Anything for the queen of the day." Tara blushed a little. "You go finish getting dressed while I get ready now," Willow shooed Tara out of the bathroom.

Tara stepped into her dress and pulled it up. Slipping her arms through the straps, she settled it onto her frame. She and Willow had found the maroon dress at Hot Topic. Tara normally wasn't into the goth or alternative look, but she loved the small bodice ties it had in front. Kind of like a princess dress, she had thought. It was form-fitting enough to look extremely good on her, but still loose enough to dance or hang out in.

Tara finished tightening and tying as Willow walked into the room. Tara's heart skipped a beat as she took in Willow's outfit. The red head had dressed up in khakis with a white button up shirt. Only the bottom two buttons were done up. The open part of the shirt revealed a forest green tank top. Willow's hair was down and swished at her shoulders. It was just nicely combed and had 2 small braids here and there in it. Willow's make up was also subtle, but she did have pale green eye shadow to go wih her shirt. "You look really great, Will," Tara spoke once she had regained her voice. Neither girl realized they had been staring at the other for about five minutes already.

"You look beautiful, Tara," Willow said sincerely. She walked into the room fully drawing her eyes away from Tara. Grabbing her overnight bag, she started rifling through it. "All the guys are gonna be droolin' over you. Hope you have dancing shoes on, because they all are gonna want to twirl you around the floor..."

Tara interrupted the redhead as she slipped on a comfortable pair of heeled sandals, "Guys are so not a priority in my life at the moment." She grinned as she looked up at the redhead who was still intently searching through her bag.

"Well, you're too beautiful to stay single for long. I bet anyone who sees you tonight is gonna be all 'Wow! Look at that hottie!' You'll definitely have someone crushing after you..." Willow continued babbling on going from Tara's would-be suitors to dancing to the latest music she was into.

Tara was too bowled over to really notice the stress Willow put on the words 'anyone' and 'someone'. She said I was beautiful. Twice. No one besides my parents has ever called me that.

Both girls' attention was drawn to the door as Kathryn Maclay knocked and entered. "Wow, you both look wonderful," the older bonde said as she looked at the dressed up teenagers. "Wesley is here. He's downstairs waiting." Kathryn looked at how grown up her daughter looked. "Willow, could you give us a minute alone?"

Willow shoved something into her pocket as she stood up from her bag. "Sure, Mrs. Maclay," she replied as she left the room.

Kathyn grabbed both of Tara's hands and drew her near. "You're wearing your grandma's ring, i see," Kathryn said as she she squeezed her right hand. Mother looked at daughter lovingly. "My baby is 16." She held up a small velvet box. "About twenty years ago, your father gave me these on our first anniversary as a token of his love for me." Kathryn opened the box to reveal a pair of emerald earrings inside. Tara brought her hand to her mouth, and before she could protest, her mother was placing them on her ears. "I give these to you now as a token of love from both me and your father. You enjoy yourself tonight, Sweetie." The pair embraced tightly.

        "Thank you, Mommy."

Tara was broken out of her recent memories as the boy's locker room door opened and some of the team wandered out. Xander was not among them. Probably still doing his hair, Tara joked to herself. She giggled.

"Well, now. Aren't you the tasty treat tonight," the cold sneering voice startled her.

"Liam!" She whipped around to face the taller intruding figure wondering how he had gotten so close behind her without her noticing. She took a quick few steps back.

"What's the matter, Treat? Can't a guy give you a compliment? You look good enough to eat," Liam said as he leered up and down at her.

Tara felt something covering her shoulders and almost freaked. She quickly realized it was Willow sliding her jean jacket on as the girl came to stand slightly in front of her. "How you doing, Willam?" she said casually.

"Name's Liam," he corrected through gritted teeth.

"Whatever," Willow said and she crossed her arms across her chest. "I'd hate to interrupt the obviously wonderful conversation you seem to be having with Tara, but Xander should be out in a minute. We gotta get going." Willow grabbed Tara's hand and pulled her over to where Xander was exiting. "Have fun at the game, William." Liam stared in hatred as they joined their friend and headed for the black mercedes parked in the front of the gym.

Update 5/20/04

Postby Cherry Avenger » Thu May 20, 2004 3:18 am

It's been a while, but you know real life. Here ya folks go.

It's My Life Part C

By Cherry Avenger

Disclaimers in first post

Since the high school students made up most of the Bronze's clientele, and they were at the game, there was only a light crowd inside the club. Some of the kids danced to DJ'ed music while everyone else chat amiably at tables and on couches surrounding the dance floor. Xander walked towards his friends who were seated on one of the aforementioned couches. He attempted to balance their drinks without spilling all over his navy blue dress shirt and brown corduroys. His smile brightened as Willow stood up to take her and Tara's drinks from him so he could sit on the chair opposite their small couch. "A toast." He goofily held up his cup. "To our best friend, Tara. Hoping we make this a birthday to remember." They all giggled as they clinked their drinks together and took a sip.

Tara grinned as she set her drink on the small end table. "Who's up for a little dancing?" she asked as she stood. Xander nodded, and they both looked to Willow.

Willow listened for a second to the extremely fast-paced beat of the current. "Um, I think I'll sit this one out for now." Tara pouted a little at her friend's hesitation. "I'll join when a more mellow song comes on, okay?"

"Promise?" Tara asked, her pout still firmly in place.

Willow could never say no when Tara made that face. "I promise," she agreed, which earned her a Tara-grin. She watched as her friends rushed to join the few other patrons dancing. Willow watched as they let loose, dancing wildly without a care who saw. I wish I could be that free sometimes, Willow thought. After a moment, she started scanning the crowd for any familiar faces. She saw Buffy Summers sitting alone over at a corner table. The blonde cheerleader stared down at her glass as she stirred its contents. Willow scrunched up her eyebrows in confusion. Why isn't she be at the game? The redhead, with drink in hand, got up and headed over. "Hey, Buffy," Willow greeted cheerily.

Buffy jumped a little, but smiled warmly at her fellow classmate. "Hey Willow. You here alone? How come you aren't at the game?" Buffy gestured for the redhead to sit across from her.

"It's Tara's birthday today. We decided to have a mini-celebration of dancing and sugary drinks. Shouldn't you be at the game, though?" Willow asked as she sipped her drink.

Buffy's happy facade fell for a moment. "Oh, I quit the squad. Kinda avoiding Kar...all things school spirit related at the moment," she tried to say non-chalantly. Willow pretended to ignore it as Buffy discreetly wiped her eyes of tears. "I would have stayed home tonight, but I haven't told my mom about quitting. She was so proud when I went out for it. I don't want to disappoint her yet. Hence the hiding out here." She picked up her glass and started to drain it.

Willow watched as Tara and Xander returned to their couch. Green eyes met blue when Tara searched for her missing friend. They both grinned at each other. The sound of Buffy setting the glass back down on the table brought Willow's attention back. "You know, you're welcomed to join us, if you want, Buffy," she tilted her head to indicate the others.

"If it it's cool with everyone," Buffy nodded.

"No worries. Tara and Xander are the greatest people I know. They won't mind." Willow stood and guided Buffy over to their group. Buffy waved shyly as Willow introduced her to Xander and Tara.

"We know each other. Hey Buffy, some of the guys from the team were asking about you earlier," Xander said. He slurped some of his soda.

"Hi, Buffy," Tara greeted. She gave a small wave and grinned.

Buffy stood transfixed as she took in for the first time, Tara and her outfit. Her mouth bobbed up and down a couple of times before she could get any words out. "Wow," she stated, her voice barely above a whisper. "Hey, Tara. You look really good tonight. You having a fun birthday?"

Tara blushed slightly under Buffy's scrutiny. "Y-yeah, thanks. Lots of fun being had today." She shyly glanced up at the other blonde. Buffy smiled back at her.

Willow looked back and forth between the two, feeling that the gaze lasted a little too long. She stood confused at why she was suddenly annoyed. "I'm gonna go grab Buffy and I some new drinks. Anyone else want?" Tara and Xander nodded.

"Hey let me get Tara's drink. Least I could do for the birthday girl." Buffy's eyes barely waivered from the blonde to the redhead.

"It's cool. I got this round." Willow felt a knot forming in her stomach and had no idea why. "You can get the next round. Okay, Buffy?" The ex-cheerleader agreed absently-mindedly as she started questioning Tara about what presents she had received.

Willow returned shortly with the refreshments. The quartet chatted about their past week at school and exchanged other amusing stories. After calming back down from the roars of laughter Xander had the girls in, he excused himself to the restroom. Buffy noticed that Tara kept glancing at the dance floor. "Hey Tara, you up for a dance?" Buffy boldly asked.

Tara smiled at the offer. "Yeah." The blondes stood and Buffy grabbed Tara's hand to lead her off. Tara stopped for a second and look back over at Willow. "You sure you don't want to join us, Will?"

The song was still too fast for Willow to feel comfortable dancing. "I'm all good here." Willow watched as Tara shrugged her shoulders and smiled sadly before being whisked off by Buffy. Tara let go as her body started moving to the beat. Buffy fell into rhythm with her. Both blondes danced close to each other. Their bodies never touched, but Buffy was definitely in Tara's personal space. Willow didn't realize she started scowling when Buffy placed a hand on Tara's shoulder to draw her in closer. She whispered in the birthday girl's ear, and Tara laughed gleefully. They pulled apart, and Buffy earned a Tara-grin for her efforts.

By the time, Xander returned he found Willow in full pout mode with her arms crossed over her chest. He followed her gaze over to Tara and Buffy on the dance floor. Interesting, he thought as he sat down across from the redhead. She didn't even acknowledge his return. "What's the matter, Will?" he asked loudly to grab her attention.

Willow nearly jumped out of her skin. "God, Xander, sneak up much?" she said defensively. She grabbed her water-downed drink and slouched back against the couch.

Xander held up his hands. "There was no sneaking. Someone was just lost in her own little world there." He caught Willow's gaze. "Everything okay? You looked kinda intense when I sat down."

"Um...I was...just thinking about the exam we had in U.S. History yesterday. I don't think I did that well on it." She looked quickly away.

You're a bad liar, Will, he thought ruefully. He let it pass, though. "You better have done good. I copied off you," he joked. Willow's eyes went wide at his comment. Before she could get mad at him, he added with a smirk, "Just kidding." She grabbed a cube of ice from her empty drink and flung it at him. Xander had the top button on his shirt undone, and the projectile landed at his neck. It slid down into the shirt blazing a cold trail of water along his skin. Buffy and Tara returned to Willow howling with laughter and Xander convulsing around saying a high pitched voice, "Cold!" over and over again.

Hey Cherry Avenger (great name, that)

I really like this story! You have a wonderful writing style--very easy and fluid. I also like how you're working the psyches and alliances of the various characters. Willow seems to be noticing Tara, who now seems to be noticing Buffy noticing her after having noticed Karah, whom Tara had noticed way the heck back when...

Very cool, and very well done.

It's My Life Part 6D

By Cherry Avenger

Disclaimers in the first post.

Tara glanced at the clock presiding over the bar area; Wesley would soon be by to pick them up. Tara's parents and a small cake awaited the trio at home. She looked over at Buffy and Xander chatting with a few members of Xander's football team who had wandered into the Bronze after the varsity game ended. Her eyes roamed the room and came upon Willow just returning from the restroom. Willow ran her fingers through her auburn hair, pushing it back behind her ears, as she approached. Her hair is so soft, Tara thought. Memories of sitting with Willow's head in her lap as they relaxed on the couch watching a movie raced through her mind. She would gently run her fingers through her's friend hair combing it one way and then combing it another.

Willow had sat next to Tara and had watched silently as a flicker of emotions played over the blonde's face ending in the curving of her lips into a small smile. "Whatcha thinking about?" Willow inquired quietly. She smiled when Tara looked over at her.

"Oh...just about how great today has been. Thank you...for everything," Tara whispered back in reply. Then she mbraced the redhead tightly. Willow wrapped her arms behind her friend, just as tight, returning the hug. She didn't question how she felt so calm and happy at that moment.

"Hey, guys," Buffy said as she jumped and landed onto the couch, next to Tara, jostling the the two apart. "Xander mentioned that you guys were gonna be leaving in a few. Just wondering if you were all jitterbugged out."

Tara turned to the other blonde with a grin. "I could use a dance before we left." Willow's scowl disappeared as Tara faced her again. "You did promise me a dance, you know," she told her.

Willow listened to the beat that had not slowed down all night. "Dancing on me equals spaz," she said weakly in an attempt at an excuse.

Buffy and Tara had already got up. Tara held her hand out to her friend. "You promised, Willow," she said. Willow didn't want to disappoint her best friend on her birthday, and allowed Tara to pull her up.

Willow's face scrunched up into a pout coupled with a slight apprehension at people seeing her spaz out on the floor. "Don't say I didn't warn you." Tara just giggled.

Tara invited Buffy back to the house for cake. Everyone sat around the Maclays dining table while her parents traded amusing anecdotes from Tara's childhood for modern day funny stories from Xander and Willow as they all ate. Tara blushed like a tomato from all the good-natured ribbing by the end of the night. Wesley drove Buffy and Xander home after they bid Tara "Happy Birthday" and "G'nite".

Her parents quickly retired to their bedroom, with Kathyn reminding her daughter, "Don't make it too late a night, girls. You have your test in the morning, Tara."

Tara collapsed back onto her bed when she and Willow made it into her room. "Everybody watch out! Tara's on the road!" Willow exclaimed as she plopped down on her stomach next to the blonde. She held her hands to her face in a frightened manner.

Tara grabbed her already aching sides when she couldn't help laughing at her friend's joke. "Be nice," she managed to get out.

Willow grinned as her friend calmed down. They both gazed at each other for a few moments, just enjoying the other's company. "You'll do great tomorrow." She leaned onto her side, her elbow holding up the upper half of her body. She swept her hair back over her shoulder and then reached into her pant's pocket pulling out a small wrapped box. "In case you were thinking I was a bad friend for not getting you a present, I do have one. I was just waiting for the right time to give it to you. Which I guess I just couldn't find the right time earlier. Seeing as how it's a few minutes to midnight, I better give it to you now. 'Cause otherwise, after midnight, it would just be a regular present and not a birthday present. Birthday presents are considered the special ones. And I want this to be a special present. Not just some lame gift." Willow paused when she saw the red numbers of Tara's alarm clock read 11:59 p.m. She quickly handed the gift over.

Tara sat up and quickly unwrapped the box for Willow's benefit. Inside was a velvet box and when she opened that, she found a silver oval locket with an X engraved on it. "Thank you, Willow," Tara breathed out as she started pulling it from its confines.

Willow scooted closer and started explaining, "I went into that new age shop over on Main St. Thought I might get you windchime or a crstal thingy. I saw a few of these lockets with different symbols on them. The sales lady called them runes, and told me this one," pointing to the X, "meant gift. It also has something to do with love and good fortune. You can put pictures in it, of course. But I thought you could write a little note with your biggest wish on it, put the note inside it, and then it would come true." Willow looked up from her reclining position. She saw that Tara's eyes misted over and that she had the brightest smile on her face. "You like?"

Tara looked Willow directly in the eye and replied, "I love." They stayed like that a minute before Tara got up and went over to her desk. She took a small sheet of her blue ocean stationary and scribbled a few words. She ripped off that part of the paper and folded it neatly into a tight little square. The blonde placed it in the locket and snapped it closed. She held it to her heart with her eyes closed as she mummured a few words that Willow couldn't hear. When she opened her eyes, she held the necklace out to Willow and asked, "Could you put it on for me, please?"

The redhead approached the sitting blonde to stand behind her. She took the necklace, draped it about Tara's neck, and clasped it closed. Though it was a few minutes after midnight, the traditional end of one's birthday, Willow hugged Tara at her shoulders and whispered, "Happy Birthday," in her ear. Tara lifted her arms to embrace Willow from above. Eventually Willow gently pulled away and said, "Let's get some sleep, so you can pass your test tomorrow. That way you can drive me around instead of Wes." Both girls chuckled as they got ready for bed.

In case anyone thinks I have the wrong rune, i got it from here www.tarahill.com/runes/index.html I checked a souple of other sites and it seemed to be the same thing.

I edited to change a couple of spelling errors and to say that im probably going to regret staying up until 2 am to write this when i have to be at work by 8am, but my muse just wouldn't let me sleep. She is an insatiable creature when she wants to be. :p
