Part 17
The walk to the movies had been filled with discussion of what movie to see. Anya wanted to see something with some nudity, and Buffy wanted a nice romance film, Willow just didn't want to get stuck watching a movie all about boy meeting girl, boy and girl falling in love, and so on, she was tired of those movies, and Tara didn't voice an opinion, as she was just too happy to really care what was on the screen.
"Oh, come on guys, just a little bit of skin, that's all I'm asking for," Anya whined.
"I'm not sitting through some stupid movie so you can see some naked people," Buffy said, "chances are you're going to be naked when you go home, I think it can wait. We need to watch a romantic movie."
"Tara what do you think?" Willow asked drawing Tara out of her own thoughts and into the movie discussion.
"Oh, I... It really d-doesn't matter to me," Tara said ducking her head.
"That's a vote for nudity," Anya declared.
"Only in your warped and twisted mind is that a vote in your favor," Buffy said.
"How about t-this one," Tara said pointing at a poster that was on the side of the theater.
"Well, it's a romantic comedy that's rated R," Willow said examining the poster carefully. Under the circumstances it was a much better choice than the other two that Buffy and Anya were lobbying for, so what if she had to sit through another stupid boy/girl romance, at least she would be sitting next to Tara. "Sounds good to me," she said smiling reassuringly at Tara, who looked nervous about her selection.
"It is rated R, there could be some nudity," Anya said thoughtfully.
"And it should be romantic," Buffy said, "Okay."
"If you want to go get some popcorn, and a soda, I'll get our tickets," Willow said handing Tara some money for the snacks.
"Paying for her," Buffy said nudging Willow.
"Buffy, don't make a big deal about it," Willow said, "Tara doesn't have much money, she has to pay for everything for school, except tuition cause she got a scholarship, that's why she has a job, and she's kind of embarrassed by her lack of funds, so just don't say anything, okay?"
"Sure, Will, no problem. I just think it's cute," Buffy said purchasing her ticket.
"I must admit, I kinda like it," Willow said smiling.
"So ask her out," Buffy said as they walked toward where Anya and Tara waited for them.
"Maybe I will," Willow said, knowing already that Tara liked her, and wanted her, made the thought of asking her on a date, much easier.
The four girls headed into the nearly empty theater choosing four seats toward the back. They had just gotten settled into their seats when the lights went down and the coming attractions started.
"Buffy," Anya whispered rather loudly, "ask Willow if I can have some popcorn."
"Will," Buffy said intending to pass the message along.
"I heard her," Willow whispered back, "the entire theater heard her, just take it," Willow said passing the popcorn across Buffy to Anya. "I'll go get us some more," she whispered to Tara.
"That's okay," Tara said back, "I'm not that hungry."
"Are you sure, cause it's no problem," Willow said.
        "I'm sure."
"Willow gave it to me," Anya said loudly as Buffy tried to take some popcorn.
"Shhh," came from various locations in theater from the few other movie goers.
"Now you see what you've done," Anya hissed at Buffy quietly.
Willow looked at Tara apologetically, knowing that the stares the group was getting were probably making her uncomfortable. The darkness of the theater gave Willow a little extra security, and she reached over and took Tara's hand and gave it a squeeze. She wasn't sure if the kissing had meant they were girlfriends now, but she hoped it did. Tara looked over at her and gave her a smile, and squeezed her hand back. The movie had started and people were no longer looking their direction and Buffy and Anya seemed to be focused totally on the screen, but Willow couldn't focus on anything but Tara's hand in her own. Her mind was in overdrive as were her hormones. It was just holding hands, but Willow's mind had created all sorts of other things that could be happening at that very moment. Suddenly the room was much too hot and Willow was finding it hard to breathe. She looked over at Tara, but she was just watching the movie along with everyone else. Willow started shifting uncomfortably in her seat, and looking around for a way out of the theater. She just needed a little air, and a very cold shower.
"Are you okay?" Tara whispered quietly feeling Willow shift around next to her.
Now, along with being in a heightened state of arousal from absolutely nothing, she was incredibly embarrassed because Tara had noticed something was wrong, of course the way she was dancing around in her seat she wasn't surprised Tara noticed. Willow stood up and moved quickly through the aisle past Buffy and Anya and out into the lobby. Tara wasn't sure what happened to Willow, but she was sure that she was probably to blame. She stood up and followed after Willow. Walking into the lobby she looked around, but couldn't find the petite red head. She checked the ladies room and found Willow splashing cold water on her face. She wasn't sure what to stay since the last thing she said made Willow jump up and leave the theater. Tara walked over to the sink and stood next to Willow.
"Hi," Willow said looking up from the sink still all flushed.
"Hi," Tara said nervously. She wanted to know if Willow was okay, she wanted to know if she was feeling ill, but she was too scared to ask.
"I'm okay," Willow said, like she had been reading Tara's mind. Really all she had done was read Tara's eyes. They were brimming over with concern.
        "I'm s-sorry," Tara apologized.
        "For what?" Willow asked.
"For making you l-leave the movie," Tara said.
"Tara, you didn't make me leave the movie, not on purpose anyway," Willow said taking Tara's hands.
"What?" Tara asked shaking her head.
"Never mind," Willow said not wanting to explain her current physical condition. "I was just being stupid that's all, that's the only reason I left."
"It had nothing to do with what I said?" Tara asked.
"No, nothing at all," Willow said smiling. "I was going kinda crazy in there," she said smiling.
        "Why?"
"I wanted to kiss you," Willow said quietly, "and I couldn't."
"Oh," Tara said looking away, then looking back at Willow, "you can kiss me now."
Willow smiled brightly and leaned forward pressing her lips to Tara's. The contact was wonderful, but she wanted more and needed more, she needed to taste Tara. Willow slowly ran her tongue over Tara's lips urging her to part them, and Tara eagerly complied with Willow's demand. As soon as Tara's mouth had opened for her, Willow drove her tongue inside and ran it around the inside of Tara's mouth occasionally wrestling with Tara's tongue. Tara very much enjoyed having Willow's tongue in her mouth, but it was her turn now, and she forced Willow's tongue out of her mouth taking control of the kiss and moving it into Willow's mouth. Tara moved her hands free of Willow's and up into her fiery hair, trying to pull her closer. They continued kissing for quite some time until oxygen became an issue. Reluctantly they pulled apart.
"Tara, can I ask you something?" Willow said sounding somber despite their kiss.
"You can ask me anything," Tara said.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" Willow asked quietly, scared Tara's answer might be no.
"What?" Tara asked shaking her head.
"Never mind, it was dumb," Willow said walking away.
"No, wait," Tara said stopping Willow before she exited the bathroom, "I just... I didn't think... Can you j-just ask me again?"
        "Why?" Willow said.
"I just w-want to make sure I h-heard you," Tara said.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" Willow said turning and looking at Tara.
"Yes," Tara said smiling so big Willow thought it would swallow her face.
Willow ran over and wrapped her arms around Tara, pressing her lips onto Tara's and kissing her girlfriend for the first time.
"Ah, Will, not that I don't love this, cause I do," Tara said smiling, "but we need to go back to the movie."
"Oh, right, the movie," Willow said, "Just one more," she said capturing Tara's lips again.
The walk home from shopping and the movies had been a torturous one. All Willow wanted to do was hold Tara's hand, have her close to her, every now and then lean in and kiss her, but she couldn't. All she could do was walk beside her and on occasion brush her arm against Tara's. Once she had told her friends that she and Tara were now girlfriends she could do all those things, but she wanted to tell them first. Sure both Buffy and Xander knew already that she liked Tara, but liking her was one thing, dating her was another. Willow was certain they wouldn't flip out, but she still felt the need to sit down and tell them. She glanced over at Tara and couldn't help but smile at her. Tara had a small grin plastered on her face, and she'd been wearing it all day since they had shared their first kiss. Willow had been wearing a similar one herself. Tara saw Willow looking her way, and favored her with an even larger smile. Today had been the best day of her life, and she never wanted it to end. She kept thinking it was all a dream and she would wake up and it would be gone, but it wasn't a dream. For starters, if it was a dream Anya wouldn't be in it, going on and on about how much money she had saved, and how good she was going to look in all the lingerie she bought. No, if it were a dream it would just be her and Tara and complete bliss.
"What are you thinking about?" Willow asked Tara, as she watched the emotions fly across her girlfriend's face.
Tara smiled happily," Us," she said quietly nudging Willow with her shoulder playfully.
"Do you guys think this is sexy?" Buffy asked holding up a slinky nightie she had purchased, "Anya says there's too much material for it to be sexy."
"I like it," Willow said shrugging her shoulders.
"Are you sure, cause I really want to be sexy for Riley tonight, it's our two month anniversary," Buffy said eyeing the garment as they walked.
"This is sexy," Anya said holding her purchase of crotchless panties up in the air for all to see.
"I'm not wearing crotchless underwear," Buffy said shaking her head.
"Well at least you could have gotten something that showed a little more skin," Anya protested.
"I don't want to look like a slut," Buffy said.
"A little late for that, don't you think," Willow said teasingly.
"Willow Rosenberg," Buffy said laughing despite the insult.
"Sorry, Buffy, I couldn't resist," Willow said, "You left yourself wide open."
"Isn't she always wide open," Anya said getting into the teasing.
"What is this, pick on Buffy day?" Buffy said pouting.
"It could be," Willow said smiling.
"You're very quiet," Anya said to Tara, who had been walking along listening to the banter between the friends. "You can make fun of Buffy too, it's easy."
        "That's okay," Tara said.
"Go ahead it's so fun," Anya said, "Pick on her hair, or how about that shirt?"
"What's wrong with my shirt?" Buffy asked.
"I don't think it's possible for it to be any tighter," Anya said.
"It's not that tight," Buffy said looking down at her shirt, "It's Riley's favorite."
"I can see why," Willow said.
"Will, just think about all the things I know about you, and then ask yourself if you really want to be on Anya's side on this issue," Buffy said pointedly.
"I'm with Buffy, there's nothing wrong with her shirt," Willow said, "It's not nearly as bad your shoes," she said looking down at Anya's feet.
"Yeah, Willow's right," Buffy said glad to have her best friend back on her side.
"You're agreeing with Willow on fashion, you've been hit in the head one too many times," Anya said.
"I'm not agreeing with Willow on fashion, cause, come on," Buffy said pointing to Willow's outfit.
"Hey, when did this turn on me, I thought I looked good," Willow said frowning.
"I think you l-look nice," Tara said shyly.
"Of course you do," Anya said as if Tara's opinion didn't count.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Willow asked, feeling compelled to defend Tara.
"I saw you guys making out in the bathroom at the movies, you're obviously going to agree with the other one, just as I would agree with Xander, or Buffy would agree with Riley."
"You were making out in the bathroom?" Buffy asked shocked.
"Sort of," Willow said glancing at Tara, who had gone bright red.
"There was no sort of about it," Anya said, "Your tongue was down her throat."
        "Anya!" Willow admonished.
"You guys were the ones making out in the bathroom don't get mad at me because you got caught," Anya huffed.
"You were making out in the bathroom!" Buffy said again.
"I'm so sorry," Willow said to Tara feeling like the whole thing was her fault, and Tara was clearing embarrassed and uncomfortable.
"It was my idea," Tara said shaking her head.
"So what are you guys like girlfriends now?" Buffy asked.
Willow looked over at Tara and smiled, "Yeah, we are."
"Oh, Will, that's great," Buffy said hugging her.
"Will you be kissing a lot now? Cause I'm sure Xander would like that if you kissed in front of him. He likes watching two girls," Anya said.
"I'm quite sure that now we won't ever be kissing in front of him," Willow said.
"Well if you ever change your mind, it wouldn't bother me," Anya said.
"We'll keep that in mind," Willow said looking at Tara and smiling. Suddenly it hit her that she wasn't hiding from anyone anymore. Sure Xander didn't know yet, but she was sure he wouldn't mind. She looked at Tara and smiled, taking Tara's hand in hers and pulling her closer. There was no reason to be so far away now.
"Oh, that's so cute," Buffy said.
"I don't know why," Anya said, "What's the big deal with hand holding?"
Willow didn't know if she could explain that to Anya. Her body filled up with warmth when she held Tara's hand in her own, her skin tingled. It was like she was putting the last piece of a puzzle into place and she was finally complete. There was no loneliness, no emptiness, just happiness.
        "It's nice," Tara said simply.
