In the original Bedazzled(not the hideous remake) ,the devil is named George Spiggott. He spends his time snipping the top button off shirts and ripping the last pages out of Agatha Christie mysteries. It's one of my favorite movies and I love Peter Cook so I use it. Every time I see Xita's sig I think of Tallulah's other big quote in defence of cocaine,"Oh no darling it's not addictive and I should know ,I've been taking it for years."

That's a good one gspiggott, my favorite Tallulah quote, the one I wanted to use is:

"My father warned me about men and booze, but he never mentioned a word about women and cocaine."

ROFL, but I thought maybe it was a little inappropriate, so funny.

If I had to live my life again, I'd make the same mistakes, only sooner.

Not much of a mystery behind my screen name. Elessar comes from J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy The Lord of the Rings. The short version is this: It is the name given to one of the characters due to a brooch given to him by his true love. I chose that name because I found the thread of the story rather moving and wanted to remind myself of its beauty.

The '007' aspect came when I was signing up at yahoo for an additional email account. "Elessar" was taken so I chose to add 007 because it was easy to remember and to type with my thumb on the number pad. I like conveince. My main address is simply "elessar" but when I have to give an email that may generate spam I give the one at yahoo.

I'm also known, though to a much lesser degree, as "lledorin." This is simply a minor character's name in a book by David Eddings. Not much to tell, I just flipped open a book that was on my desk and scanned down the page. I hardly have any use for that name and it has been many years since I have used it on the internet. In fact, I don't know how long it has been.

When all is said and done most people wind up calling me el or my real name, Scott.

I have to say that my name has got to be so damned odd. When I first started MUDding sometime around 1987 or so, I was a member of this quaint little Swedish MUD called Sejnet. Had a funky name (Tuborg) and my then boyfriend just couldn't keep a straight face when he said it. So he, my other buddies Peruna (His real name was Henri), Bror and Yki decided to call me Kieli (which means something blotto like "little potato") and the name just stuck. So here I've been a bloody little potato for close to 16 yrs now. You'd think I'd find a real handle. :happy

So there you have it. A totally ridiculous story about a handle I've yet to get rid of. Go figure :glasses

Love is tricky. It is never mundane or daily. You can never get used to it. You have to walk with it, then let it walk with you. You can never balk. It moves you like the tide. It takes you out to sea then lays you on the beach again. Today's struggling pain is the foundation for a certain stride through the heavens. You can run from it but you can never say no. It includes everyone."--Amy Tan "The Hundred Secret Secret Senses"

Sevignyxxx is for the technodyke board-Chloe Sevigny is hot and xxx are kisses not anything to do with sex as some people like to think, Silent grrl and Silent Cries for my support Website Site-thats just the name of the site, ghostly_grrl for my email-I'm interested in ghosts etc and finally Sheggey-which comes from a nick my friends call me, something to do with a mix of Shelley(my real name:sh ) and Shaggy from scoobie doo, What I'm not sure!:hmm

Anyway I tend to stick to Wytchi Grrl now as it was all getting a bit confusing:eek

Um...Hi! Not really a great story about my name...I have always been fascinated by dragons and felt sympathetic towards them....I mean come on all they really wanted was the virgins...How bad can that be? Oh dear did I just say that? anyway...I was tired of being called the dragon so I asked a friend of mine to come up with a better name...she did some research and found that tanniyn was the hebrew name for serpent or dragon. I liked it so I kept it. Of course her research was through a florist but hey it goes with the little gay man that haunts my being...

Oh and just for Xita...Tallu's last word before she died..."Bourbon." Now that was a woman!!!

thanks for listening,

Postby luciddream » Fri Feb 07, 2003 11:36 pm

fun topic... let's see... my screen name..

Back in the day when AOL was pretty much in it's infancy in '94 I was having these AMAZING lucid dreams. that is basically when you dream in REM Stage 3 sleep instead of Stage 4 sleep. I was dreaming, yet I knew I was and I could control my dreams!! I would rob banks, control outcomes of my soccer games, get lucky (and I don't mean gambling)... It was like being in control of a universe of my choosing. so when i had to think of a screenname for my AOL account that was it!

i've had various versions of it: Idreamlucid, luciddreamer, dreaminlucid... geez.. i can't believe it's been almost 9 years that i've been on the 'net.

Postby BytrSuite » Sat Mar 29, 2003 1:44 am

I don't think I've posted in this thread before. Hmm. Anyway.

I got my screen name becuase I used to be a huge fan of the show Xena:Warrior Princess. And, the first time around, I really enjoyed the musical ep they did in their season three, The Bitter Suite. I had to go with alternate spelling, obviously.

I'm not too much of a fan of the show anymore and haven't been for years, but I was too lazy to change the name when I stopped being a fan and then it turned into me having had it for so long that I didn't want to change it.

So, I just deal with the teasing it sometimes brings. :grin

And to think I thought it was a vampire ref, BytrSuite. . .

My story's pretty mundane. I'm a big Eve 6 fan (I do the site http://eve6.itgo.com, which has been on hiatus for a couple of months now), and they have a song called Superhero Girl, which is my favorite song.

So I was that for a while, also SuperheroGrrl for the riot influences, but I ended up sprhrgrl when I met my friend Pat, stpdlsr, and got on the anti-vowel train.

It's good, though, because I'm the only sprhrgrl on the web. I've got "about 2,630" google hits (good god) and even two googlisms. A girl should be proud.

I didn't see this thread before, but it's a good idea. So I made mine back when I was in eighth grade and I needed an AOL name. I wasn't very creative, but I was a huge Sarah McLachlan fan. So I used the name of her song "Vox" and then Angl for her song "Angel" and then her initials, SM. Of course, now that I think about it, maybe "sm" wasn't a great idea to add to it, but VoxAngl was taken, and I didn't even think about the connotations of "sm" at the time. :angel

okay... here goes with my name

my real name is rhain (pronunced rain) and i usually get that when i sign in to stuff on the net, but it wasnt available here. so i tried for rain, then pioggia (rain in italian), none of them were available so i tried for pioggia acida (acid rain in italian)... there you go so it relates to my real name and adds a bit of my attitude if you annoy me.

if no-one wants to play with me then i am going to go to my room and play with myself... play by myself, i meant play by myself

well first for the John Mayer song, "I've got a city love, found it in Lydia.." (yeah I'm a john mayer fan) and second because I think its pretty and it's a little similar to my given name, Laura - and third (the most sketchy reason) cos some random customer at the retaurant I work at had the name lydia, and she seemed like such an interesting person for some reason, and she was quite pretty... weird i know.

When I first became internet capable, I knew I wanted a Star Wars related nic. I tried "Hoth" and "Echo Base" (since I was signing up for my service during one of the worst snowstorms in Wisconsin in ten years), but they were taken. I started going through the more obscure characters and came upon Sy Snootles. She's the singer in the Max Rebo Band which performed at Jabba's Palace in Return of the Jedi. (She's the spindly-legged singer with the long snout with bright red lips at the end.) I thought that was appropriate, since I used to sing quite a bit, and still enjoy it, albeit usually at home alone or in the privacy of my car. It wasn't at all because of the striking physical resemblance. :p

So that's what I've stuck with for the past four years. I prefer simplicity in my home life (because my work-life is so stressful), so I use SySnootles for everything.

This may be the nerdliest explaination yet!

not so much in mine.. My last name is Radaeli, I'm a master of D&D, my fellows in the group thought ra-da-el sounded like the name of some ancient deity... so, 'coz I'm an ego-maniac, I took it (no... I took a name my beloved friends nicely forged for me..) ;)

This thread fascinated me...

Let me end with a quote from Umberto Eco, 'Il nome della rosa' ('The name of the rose'?):

'stat rosa pristina nomine, nomina nuda tenemus'

(VERY hard task translating this... I'll try: 'from the original rose, stands just its name: we hold just naked names in our hands').

I wanted to express my natural cynicism towards any subject. Cynicism should be tempered with something positive, and TemperedCynic was the result. When I looked at the name again, ideas of "tempered steel" and patience with hard-fought experience struck me. So the moniker was born.

My name is just a nickname my friend gave me last year. She said it once it kinda stuck and now I use it for pretty much everything I need a screen name for. I guess it's just my first name if it mated with velosity.

This thread is so interesting because alot of times I wonder where people come up with this stuff.

Well ok so my screen name story doesn't have much behind it either. I'm in Tae Kwon Do and everytime I go to a tournament or spar(that's like controlled fighting) I always seem to get hurt. You will always see me limping around with a hurt ankle or a bruised shin or something else. I always come out with bruises and bumps and occasionally a broken nose....ok so I digress. Basically, I get hurt and limp around so people call me Gimpy. That's it in a nutshell.
