Hee, I wondered if that bit was intentional, because Peter Davison's reply was just so "HUH?" that I think that's what made me laugh the most. :)

At least Virginia has now realised that Megan is really only after the money.

The Superted avatar... wow.

Anyway, AHWtB was as good as ever last night. I loved the way Sarah just jumped to the conclusion her mother killed Megan! Typical!

Plus Virginia calling Tamsin when pissed (in the English sense of drunk, rather than the American sense of annoyed):

"I love you. I'm drunk, but I love you and... you're not here."

Well-observed and kind of cute. I want Virginia and Tamsin back together so much now. When Tamsin calls herself boring and dependable and says she could never compete with Megan... so sad but adorable, and she is wrong about the last part. She reminds me of Tara a bit in some ways.

I enjoyed last night's episode, though I did start wondering whether Megan's death fit into the lesbian cliche or not. As somebody who's only just started watching the series, I could be completely wrong about this, but I felt that she basically latched onto anyone, male or female, if she thought there was something in it for her. So even though she was a total scheming, blackmailing cow and I didn't like her at all, I wish they'd found some way of writing her out without killing her off. On the other hand, Tamsin and Virginia are still around and I don't think it's likely that either of them will go evil or die. Although Megan was entertaining, she was a fairly negative and nasty character - she just used people. If they were going to kill anyone, I'd much sooner that they killed her instead of Tamsin or Virginia.

Incidentally, can anyone tell me who the father of Tamsin's baby is and if he's still around. Was he ever a character in the show at all?

The father of Tamsin baby is a guy called Gregg & he was at York Uni with Tamsin and Virginia. He was mentioned a few times in the first series, as he kept asking Tasmin out & she would discuss this with Virginia who incidently thought he was a prat. This was before Tasmin had plucked up the courage to tell Virginia that she wanted to be with her.

During the second series Virginia and Tamsin split up for awhile and it was during this time she got pregnant. You did actually get to see him on screen for a second, standing at the door.

Last nights episode was very funny, Virginia and the drunk phone calls priceless. I don't really think Megan's death fits the cliche, her character wasn't gay, just a leach. She saw Virginia as an easy target to get her hands on some money. From the start of the show Virginia had a huge crush on her, when Megan found out about it she was really nasty to her, but soon changed her tune when she found out about the money.

She's football crazy, she's football mad, I can't name a footballer Ulrika hasn't had!

I'd agree with Zippy... Megan's death doesn't fit with the cliche, it's more a question of an evil scheming baddie being killed off... her character by Season 4 had become the kind of person who would sleep with anyone or indeed do anything if she thought she'd get some money out of it!

(Anyone else think maybe David and Megan might not have had sex, he passed out and she just said they had slept together to blackmail him...)

Postby tommo » Thu Mar 27, 2003 9:30 am

Please, it doesn't fit the cliche because Megan isn't a lesbian. She's only pretending to get to the money. That's been made obvious from day one. You can't under any circumstances apply the cliche to this. Besides which, it's freakin' hilarious. :)

Thanks for fillng me in on he background. Being a new viewer, I wasn't sure whether Megan had ever been genuinely attracted to Virginia or not, though I did work out that she was just in it for the money. I think it might have been more fun to see her get completely humiliated, just because the actress who plays her is so good at being completely unsympathetic.

Julie Graham (Megan) is a good actress, but did anyone think her Scots accent showed through a bit more on Wednesday's ep? Perhaps she was nervous with it being her last ep and being killed off...

I thought maybe we did see a different side to Megan when she explained to Alison before the wedding why she was marrying Virginia... because Virginia loved her unconditionally and without question. Now maybe she was just putting that on to get to the cash! - or maybe she wrongly interprets Virginia's obsessive infatuation as love! - but just for a moment, well, she didn't exactly have me fooled but I thought perhaps there was an element of truth in what she was saying.

I'm a sucker, right?

Yes tyche, I can't help feeling that by killing her off, they removed the possibility for some kind of humiliation at the hands of not only Alison, but also Virginia. Shame, that.

What an absolute scandal it is that you can't get AHWTB on DVD and only S1 on video!! I mean think of all the dross that gets a release!

Also, how come the quality drama series like this never get a repeat!! I was a latecomer to the show, only started watching last series.(what number are we on now??) I'd love to catch up but no repeats - even with 1000 of Sky digital channels - and not much released...

Anyone know how many more eps in THIS series? Also, anyone know when Bad Girls is back??

That is a tough one, I am watching the footy and taping AHWTB, so I get the best of both worlds. Live comedy followed by a video, what a night. I may even have to involve beer and pies. :grin

Yet another slice of total genius !Now Alison has shagged the 'lawnmower' in public, it looks like it's going to be kidnapping. I feel so bad for Virginia - but what with the Braithwaite family motto being 'Cheer up it might never happen'.... getting pissed is probably still the best option. But lets hope she gets back together with Tamsin in the last ep.:grin :grin

In a word no, I have been too busy getting pissed, going to footy matches, getting pissed, sending random messages to people whilst being pissed, suffering awful hangovers and leering over a girl at work.

Last night's ep was genius, I was so glad when Virginia punched David. And it was nice to see that awful Elaine getting her comeuppance (at the hands of her own son, no less.)

Sounds like next week's ep will be action-packed, so it'll need to be 90 minutes long. According to 'heat':

Virginia briefly tries being straight in next week's ep. Apparently it happens in the first 15 minutes of the ep, so presumably there's another 75 minutes for her to go back to being gay.

Ooh, thanks tyche! See, what I find interesting about this is that I think this is going to be a reaction to Virginia losing Megan. Now, Megan wasn't her soulmate and she wasn't a very nice person, but I trust that this show will deal with losing someone "special" in a fitting manner and one that will, undoubtedly, contain some humour in it. I'm willing to bet that we'll see some top class writing and acting here. Can't wait. :)

I agree, Virginia's reaction to Megan's death is (quite naturally) to question the whole of her life and what it means now. I was a bit worried about these spoilers but then I thought: well she's grieving and (I think) acting out of her normal character because of that (of course, you would if someone so close to you had died).

I have to say, not to be heartless about the loss of Megan, I hope there is at least some hope for Virginia & Tamsin by the end of the ep.

Oh I'm more than sure that ITV will have Virginia and Tamsin reunited by the end of the last episode. The signs have been there for a while now, and you know, unlike some places I could mention, I actually have a modicom of faith in ITV.

I guess you're right Tommo. There were those scenes earlier in the series where Virginia bonded with Rowena, and Tamsin was in last week's episode though she had very little to do. I guess they were just reminding us she was still around... I would love a happy ending here (and like you, I do have an ickle bit of faith that ITV won't try to depress the hell out of their audience with the finale! The scenes with V & T have hopefully set it up for them to be together in the end (rather than for one of them to die horribly and the other to go insane and be saved by a man with a crayon, which I gather happens on less well-crafted and thought out TV shows).

But yes, I don't think the storyline would have included such poignant scenes between Virginia, Tamsin and Rowena for nothing. Because that would make absolutely no sense at all, storyline-wise. And it would thoroughly depress me.

I'm remaining hopeful. Watch me crash and burn. :lol
