Restless commentary on DVD

Postby Mike of the Nancy Tribe » Mon Apr 15, 2002 4:09 pm

Hi, Wiccagood!

If the season 4 DVDs are already out in Oz, have you already seen Joss's commentary on Restless? If you have, I'd dearly love to hear about it. I have the set pre-ordered for delivery on the day of release here, May 13th, and the only thing I really want is that commentary. I'd love to know if it'll be worth it. Like many others, I've been pondering over that ep's meaning since it aired, and it would be cool to know what Joss really intended.

Oz S4 DVD's

Postby QuOS » Tue Apr 16, 2002 12:45 am

I'm from Australia too, and I nearly fell off my chair when I read Wiccagood's post....

As far as I know (and believe me, I've been looking!) we only have seasons 1-3 of Buffy, and 1-2 of Angel, with s4 being released on the 7th of June. If I'm wrong, I'd love to know where I can get hold of some. And as for the price - Wiccagood, if you can tell me where I can buy DVD's that cheap I will kiss the ground you walk on. For those of you overseas who don't know, we in Australia get our Buffy/Angel DVD's split into two box sets per season with 11 eps in each one. The cheapest I found (by looking both online and in stores) was about A$65 for each half, which means $130 to get each season. I, and my wallet, will be eternally grateful if you can point me to a cheaper alternative. (*tries not to think about how much all those dvd's cost*)

QuOS: yes.. you are right,,.. We have S1-3 BTVS and S1-2 Angel (S2 came out last week - two weeks later than advertised).

S4 is due on the 6/06/02 but expect that to be late as well.

I have all the DVD and I know many people in the US that get the Australian boxes to get them early.

$65 a box is good (I get it for slightly cheaper, but I preoder the entire series). I think Wiccagood was refering to the exchange rate between the US$ and the Au$ meaning it is cheap for them, at $33.00 a box or $11/DVD

Phew I almost had a heart attack when I read that the Season 4 DVD's had come out in Oz, I've been dying for them to come out. That's not a bad list of extra features, yay for Joss doing three commentaries. Also did I read right in that there would be cast filmographys - would that mean Amber would be in it with a list of each film/television episodes she's been in?!?

Wow! - I didn't know my message would cause such confusion. I spoke to Steve, who was the one who told me S4 was out. He says I misinterpreted him...

HE has the S4 DVD's, and barely cost him anything. What he failed to mention is that he works for Fox and can get whatever he wants. Sorry for causing hysteria, but he does say that it won't be very long at all before they are released properly.

Angel DVD Error

Postby Katharyn » Fri Apr 26, 2002 12:04 pm

Kittens, I ordered my Angel S2 from Amazon UK (I am in the UK) and today I received the following e-mail. My copy is fine but I am not sure whether this applies simply to the Amazon copies or is a wider problem. If you ordered from Amazon the e-mail gives you a return address to send it back to... if you didn't get it from Amazon then check the disc and see the shop you bought it from to confirm the return address with them. DO NOT just send your disc off without checking where/whether it should go. DO NOT just take my word for this. I know I am on the level, but as with anything online you do not. You should have an e-mail from the supplier if bought online or the shop should be able to tell you otherwise. If you are elsewhere in the world I am not sure if there is a problem and if you ordered from the UK I doubt that Freepost will work for you.

------------------

Greetings from Amazon.co.uk.

I am writing concerning your recent order for

"Angel Season 2 Box Set"

It has been brought to our attention that some copies of this title have

been dispatched with the second disc playing as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

and not as "Angel". We are very sorry if you have received an incorrect

disc with your box set, please return only the incorrect "Buffy the

Vampire Slayer" disc to the following freepost address:

Freepost SAE3937

Pheonix Road

Great West Road

Brentford

TW8 9BR

The studio will then send you the correct Angel disc. Please do not send

the other correct "Angel" discs that you have received in your box set.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience that may have

been caused by this error.

-------------------

Presumably that should be Phoenix Road.

Be kind of interested to know if they were accidentally sending S4 discs out... and what was on there.. say a commentary for Hush? No far too early for that...

Re: Multi Region DVD Players (WAY CHEAP)

Postby superZONic » Sat Apr 27, 2002 8:21 am

USA Kittens:

I got a Sampo DVE-611 Multi-Region, "vcr friendly" (Macrovision disabled) dvd player with a built in PAL/NTSC converter off of ebay for about $150. If you're a tinkerer, I understand you can buy the dvd player for less than $100 and get the codes off the net to unlock the regions if you wanna go the cheap way. This machine rocks my world and i highly recommend going multiregion to open up all your options. The UK and Oz buffy dvds play like a dream, totally. Also, sorta OT, you might check into Bad Girls series 1-3 ( a very dykey and fun UK dramedy about chicks in prison) - its available from Amazon.uk, has lots of extras, and is way worth the $50 buck per series.

You sure that's not a scam, Puff? ;)

I'll be getting my S4 DVD's when they come out on May 14th, hopefully actually on that date, as Amazon are usually early on pre-release orders. I'm going to be making some Mp3s of Joss' commentary and of course the inevitable screencaps... lots of W/T goodness to be had. So those who're waiting won't miss out too much. :)

Aussie S4 DVDs

Postby Pixie Muso » Sat Apr 27, 2002 11:35 pm

I know that the Buffy DVD sets that have already been released were going for $60 at Dick Smith PowerHouse in Chatswood (Sydney). Although the Angel ones were goign for $67.95 or something, so perhaps S4 may be more pricey than the other boxsets.

For those that asked it's not a scam...it is however very weird. I can't be bothered to post anywhere promoting the dvd's. But I will stay on the list to see what they say.

I sure hope that they realease season 3 and beyond in no just Widescreen.

I'm sorry, personally I don't mind WS, but not for TV programs. I mean at least they should put out 2 versions of it. WS does not work good on a TV screen .

Second. everyone stop!!! With respect to the Mods here. This is not the place to start a war over WS/FF stuff.

I'm just leaving my feelings. Like everyone is allowed to do. (I hope)

S4 DVD's

Postby walker » Mon May 13, 2002 1:49 pm

Okay, thought I'd better bump this up as the Brits got the S4 DVD's today. Or at least dumb Brits like me who couldn't find web-sites that would deliver it to them on the Saturday.

Edited - I had comments here about the writer commentaries. They were written as I was listening to the commentaries so I feel that they were a little rash and not terribly well thought out. I don't normally edit my posts for such reasons, usually only for typo's. This time I feel that my comments are not that well suited to this particular thread. Probably the Speculation Thread would be best for this material.

According to another board, Kays Catalogue (!) say Buffy S5 DVD is released on 14th October and Angel S3 is released on December 2nd.

Hopefuly they won't move this back. I doubt it, as they will want to rinse the Xmas £££ out of us all.

This may mean we could get S6 DVD as early as March. Will the BBC demand that they have to show all of it first or do they not get any say in the matter?

buying DVDs...the message it sends

Postby Lisa of Nine » Sun May 26, 2002 12:14 pm

I know people want to watch the good things between Willow and Tara, but are you aware that every DVD you buy puts money in Mutant Enemy's pockets? They already don't take us seriously. Even when some of the Willow Tara fans have said that they will not watch season seven, the Buffy writers don't believe us. One writer at the Sucubus club said something to the effect of 'people say they'll stop watching but our numbers stay the same.'

Each person has to decide for themselves if they want to buy merchandise, and I respect that. I'd just like to remind you that supporting the show financially sends the message that it's okay to kill Tara. Frankly, all they care about IS the money. They make most of their money in syndication and from sales of DVDs. Please consider NOT putting money in their pockets.

If you must buy the DVDs, PLEASE take time to write FOX a letter condemning Tara's murder to at least offset the support you are sending with your money.

respectfully,

Lisa

Re: buying DVDs...the message it sends

Postby WebWarlock » Sun May 26, 2002 1:14 pm

Actually I can't understand why anyone would want to buy these.

These are the people who, admittedly, gave us Willow and Tara. And these are the same people who killed Tara, made Willow go evil, lied to us about the whole thing, and then went on to other boards to tell us (not that they ever had the courage to come here) to get over it.

And then they mock us by saying "oh you'll be back anyway".

Now you are going to give your money in support of this story?

Well count me out. I wouldn't even buy them for skeet shooting.

No wonder ME feels it can do anything to the fans they want. The fans roll ever and give them every reason.

The only Willow/Tara stuff I'll be buying will be from companies whose profits go to those companies, not back to ME/Fox. Yes, ME/Fox will get some money in terms of license aggreements, but there is no other way to get any Willow/Tara merchandise.

At my last count that includes only Eden, MAC, and Dark Horse.

Re: buying DVDs...the message it sends

Postby Dave V » Sun May 26, 2002 8:18 pm

Everyone should spend their money as they choose. Lisa and Web Warlock make a valid point, though. Buying the DVD's feeds the ME machine.

A friend told me that the same day Buffy Season 2 DVD's go on sale the DVD set for the recent Dune miniseries goes on sale. For me, Dune it is. In the future, there's MAC's Willow and Tara figures, and Eden's games, and Dark Horse's Amber-authored comics...

I'm just saying, there's places for me to spend many of my hard-earned dollars on W/T stuff that DON'T contribute to ME's bottom line.

Right, it's totally up to you, but it would be good, if you decide not to buy the DVDs (or the Xbox game or any other merchandise), for you to let ME and Fox know. And tell them why.

DVD outtakes

Postby Gilespawn » Mon May 27, 2002 6:42 am

Haven't seen the UK season 4 discs yet, but if the BBFC passed an outtake reel, it'll almost certainly be on there, probably as a hidden 'easter egg'

There is a way to buy the DVDs.

Buy them at a used CD/Record/Tape store.

Or buy them from Ebay.

Gilespawn - is it certain the BBFC saw an outtake reel? I thought that was just people hoping. I can check but I don't know what I'm looking for.

Edited to add: Buffyversers are pretty thorough, wouldn't someone have found them by now? Ahh S3 - maybe we get veeery long extended scenes of Faith dancing. What? :) They were on the Bring It On DVD!
