Life On Mars

I felt I should start a thread for this excellent British series which has been adapated for American television by ABC. It has an "A" cast (including Harvey Keitel and Michael Imperioli) and is well written and well produced.

The subject matter is interesting: a police detective in 2008 New York City is hit by a car and wakes up in...1973!!!.

The attention to period detail is outstanding (a still-standing World Trade Center, old-fashioned gas-guzzling cars and busses, etc etc), but what makes the show truly intriguing is the no-holds-barred depiction of all of the rampant bigotries and prejudices of the era. The only female officer in the precinct, for example, is referred to as "no-nuts"!!! :-O Last night's episode dealt with the rampant homophobia of the era. It was very well done, and was very much worth watching.

I totally agree. This is the one new show this season that I'm finding that I really don't want to miss. My own father was a police officer in 1973 (I was 12 years old at the time), so it's really interesting for me to revisit the time period.

I hope they manage to keep up the good work.
