Saw / Saw 2

I absolutly loved both of these moves, the Second recently in the theater with my girl and I can't wait to buy the DVD. Although, I didn't find the as good as the first, it was amazing in its own ways. I especially loved the ending and it was one of the better I've seen in a while. I so glad that a sequel was made that could compete with the first and wasn't the flop so commonly created.

Ugh, you liked them? I get queasy just remembering some of the scenes. I love a good horror movie as much as the next person, but Saw and Saw 2 are much too heinous for my tastes. It's not so much the blood and gore that bother me, but the whole psychological terror really shook me up.

Gimme them flesh eating zombies any day, I prefer my horror a bit less human. Actually, I think it's better if there's no possibility of it really happening. That's why I don't like these movies about ghosts, and possessions and perfectly human psychos, it's too real, too possible, you know? Well, except the Hannibal series, for some reason I really like them, even if Dr. Lecter freaks me out.

Well, that was my two cents in.

I don't love them, or hate them. They're entertaining, the storylines and acting aren't good at all though. They're quite predictable, though the ending of the second one I didn't quite see coming. But still, they're not good as in being scary or anything like that.

I saw the trailer for Saw 3 the other night.
First thoughts were "Oh no, not another one".
But it seems okayish. Not that I'll watch it alone, heheh.
Anyone seen the trailer? Thoughts? Questions? Comments?

I can't believe they are doing a 3rd one. Seriously. I saw the first, it was ok. Haven't watched the 2nd one and I don't know if I want to. I saw the preview for the 3rd and I really doubt I'll see that one either.

I didn't really mind the second one.
Tho I'm paranoid and when I see one of these films I think it'll happen to a mate or something, lol.
But the second one was alright, didn't like the end of it tho, bit daft that the police didn't find out it wasnt live feed (That is the second one right,...?)

I really liked the first one because there was a lot of character studying going on, and for that exact reason I was really disappointed by the second. Too many characters and just not enough of anything (although the pit of syringes really got me off my seat).

I'm hopefully excited for third though. Apparently, they revamped the focus to be more like the first and upped the gore.

I know this thread is kinda old and stuff, but here are my two cents, since I read there will be a 5th move next year.

I really like the first one. I saw it late at night before some surgery a few years ago and gosh since I was already shook up, this was pretty much exciting and scary at the same time.
I also like the second one. Saw it with a friend and we both were absolutely surprised by the ending of it. So since we missed the third one in theaters, I bought it on DVD and we wanted to watch it. So we were like really looking forward to seeing it and then it was absolutely BAD.
I'm not someone who quits watching a movie and most time I give like every movie a chance, but this was was so bad we stopped the DVD after one hour or less. Don't even know where the DVD is to be honest :)

So yeah my question is, has anyone seen the fourth movie? What are you thinking about them making a fifth? Wanna know what you think.

In m opinion, they are absolutely destroying the "charm" of the first two movies with so many crappy sequels...

As far as I'm concerned, the popularity of these movies just serves as an illustration of how low the taste of so many present-day moviegoers has sunk. :happy

I may be an old stick-in-the-mud, but I remain a fan of horror/fantasy movies that relied on good writing, and not massive amounts of bloody and gruesome special effects. Reliance on these things simply demonstrates the lack of imagination on the part of the producers and the writers.

Of course, there are a few exceptions: films such as "The Others" or "Pan's Labyrinth" were quality productions that did not require such things, but I fear that they are the exceptions that prove the rule.

For what it's worth, up until about four or five months ago, I would've agreed with you. That's when I saw my first "Saw" movie ("Saw II") and ended up getting hooked.

I've seen them all now, and I've come to the conclusion that there's something about them deeper than just Jigsaw's traps. Like you, I prefer a horror movie that has more to offer than just gore--"Evil Dead," "Jaws." In fact I'm squeamish about gore.

But, though I wouldn't put them on the same level as those two, I think the "Saw" films do offer more. I think it's something about the starkness of the choices Jigsaw offers.

Most of us want to change our lives, but are rarely, or at least feel we're rarely, handed an opportunity. And even if we are, we're reluctant to lose what we must in order to change. Jigsaw makes it clear-cut.

I also like the touch that Jigsaw, though clearly deranged, never lies. I think that he's a great character.

It's possible this is a "in the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king" kind of a thing. Maybe it's just that compared to the likes of the "Texas Chainsaw" remake or "Scream 3," the "Saw" movies seem like they have a lot better reason to exist.

But anyway, I think they're good. I don't think I'd go so far as to say great...but I think they're good.
