Gone nuts with Lesbian themed dvds

Postby Shinnen » Wed Dec 14, 2005 7:27 am

Today I went nuts with buying
bootleg
dvds. I bought maybe 4 lesbian themed dvds and ordered a few original dvds from my friend. Titles I bought:

Girl Play
Clara's Summer
Same Sex Parents

I ordered Amour de Femme and Fingersmith from my friend who deals with importing other region DVDs without censorship and taxations.

Does anyone have any opinion about the mentioned films?. I haven't started watching yet.

I thought I was the only one going nuts with lesbian themed DVDs! :party :party :party It's good to know that I'm not alone :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D Well, for the passed months all I've ever purchased were lesbian themed DVDs. To start off, I've bought Tipping The Velvet. I think this is a must have, if you'll ever to collect (lesbian themed) DVDs :-D . I think this is one of the best lesbian film/tv show that I ever saw. I got the book as well. Secondly, I got curious with D.E.B.S. after Trom told me that it's such a funny movie, and so I bought it. And I didn't regret it! Sara Foster who plays Amy reminds me of Tara, and Lucy is just damn hot! Then I've got A village Affair (not sure if this is the correct title), and I got disappointed. Then I've purchased Fingersmith, another Sarah Waters novel. It's such a twisted and dark story. It's good, but I think I prefer Tipping The Velvet most. What else?! Oh yeah, I just got the Xena DVD that I've ordered from Amazon. Now I'm waiting for the release of Imagine me and You. In addition to these I have my old films of Kissing Jessica Stein (this is a cute movie) If These Walls Could Talk 2 and The L Word, plus BtVS of coarse! :wtkiss :wtkiss :wtkiss :applause :applause :applause and I'm just starting to collect. There's definitely more kittens out there who have hundred of lesbian themed DVDs!

Amour de Femme is very good! Both of the lead actresses are :drool I found myself having a major crush on Marie. This is actually a lesbian movie with a happy ending, which made my g/f and I very happy. I would recommend it very much.

If nothing else, it's definitely a movie to watch with your honey. :smug

We're thinking about buying it. Go and watch, Shinnen. You won't be disappointed.

I haven't exactly gone nuts, I find I can't buy them in stores so have to order online. There are a few more I would like to buy so I'll keep an eye on this thread too!
I did own Clara's Summer and Lost and Delirious which I brought from amazon without ever having seen them. Clara's summer was okay and a decent watch but I hated Lost and Delirious with a passion - ended up selling both of them to people that would love them more than I did!

I currently own:
Bound: which is a must for DVD collections, one hell of a good film.
DEBS: Another must just for comedy and happy endings sakes.
The Children's Hour: Notable for its age and the fact it has Audrey Hepburn whom I love
If these Walls Could talk 2: Also very good, although the first part makes me cry very time.
And of course lotsa Buffy DVDs and the L word.

Cheers

Alright, I might get yelled at for this, but I'm going to say Queer As Folk. :-D You've got lotsa Mel and Lindz action, plus the added bonus of gay action for the guys/gals. It's a must have in my book.

I can't believe noone has mentioned Gia. :shock

I only started buying lesbian and gay movies and TV shows on DVD after I became a Willow and Tara fan, and now I can't get enough of them.

I'd recommend Relax It's Just Sex. Not a lesbian movie but includes a wonderful lesbian couple played by Lori Petty and Cynda Williams. The commentary track is a riot with a completely insane Jennifer Tilly and Lori talking about usually being the butch girl at movie premieres and the size of Cynda's breasts.

Alright, I might get yelled at for this, but I'm going to say Queer As Folk. You've got lotsa Mel and Lindz action, plus the added bonus of gay action for the guys/gals.

Oh yeah. I'm definitely a fan of the guys as well as the girls. :lol

Sometimes I just want to watch something that includes girls with girls and guys with guys, no subtext, no need to imagine that a straight character might possibly be gay, and that's when I stick Queer as Folk or The L Word in the DVD player. They're not perfect but I love them. :)

And I'm a little surprised that Show Me Love hasn't made this list yet, but I guess it has now...

Aimee and Jaguar

Yes, this movie is very sad, but I love it! This is my favorite movie of all-time.
As one, they turn to the soda machine. It flies back into the door like a cannonball. Willow looks at it, at Tara. She doesn't let go of her hand.

Yes indeed, dorksrcool, it is very sad--yet it's based on a true story. It's important that people know that the Nazis hated gay people as much as they hated Jews, Gypsies, Slavs, etc. etc. etc. (they had a loooooong list of people they hated!).

I loved this movie.... very cute in parts!

I'm very uneducated on this topic but I can mention the ones that have already been said and what I thought of them. I personally really liked Lost & Delirious & I got a lot of my friends to watch and they all seemed to love it as well (but they mainly watched it just to see Mischa Barton). BtVS, The L word, and QAF are always great for that continuos story line fix. But I'm a cheerleader is such a funny movie and very beautiful in parts as well. I think thats all I've seen from the ones mentioned. I love unhappy endings in movies so if your willing to watch one with an unhappy ending to it I recommend Heavenly Creatures with Kate Winslet & directed and written by Peter Jackson, so it's worth checking out. It's based on a true story as well and I loved this movie!

Oh... I've been looking for Heavenly Creatures in the black market. Unfortunately I couldn't find it and after ordering 3 new dvds, I'm totally broke.

I've put in Desert Hearts into my order... cost me almost RM400 for the 3 new movies I ordered.

But... My list as follows...

Gia
Lost & Delirious
Better Than Chocolate ( A gift from Urnie which I really appreciate)
Clara's Summer
Same Sex Parents
Girl Play
If These Walls Could Talk 2
Kissing Jessica Stein
Tipping The Velvet
Mango Kiss (HORRIBLE MOVIE! Don't ever watch it...unless you're curious...but it's bad... REALLY bad!)
Boys Don't Cry
The L Word (S1 & 2)
Butterfly
Latter Days (this is gay guys, i bought it for that few minutes of Amber)

Coming soon for me are

Amour de Femme (Jenn I'm actually looking forward to this movie)
The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love
Desert Hearts
She's the most amazing girl in the whole world. She's the only girl who makes my heart beat faster and slower at the same time. When I'm not with her, I'm not living. I'm not existing until I can hold her in my arms again.

Has anyone mentioned the following?

Fingersmith
Girl Play
A Family Affair
Sister, My Sister

I don't think anyone has mentioned Claire of the Moon. Might I just say....run away screaming! I kid you not, I fell asleep. The acting was just horrible; the script should have been shredded and used as kitty litter. It was so fucking preachy, I just wanted to reach into my TV screen and bitch slap the characters.

This one isn't a lesbian dvd... and it doesn't even have any lebians in it.. but Saved is an awesome movie with a great underlying message. Also, Bend it Like Beckham was originally supposed to be a lesbian film but it was changed at the last minute. Its still pretty funny and cute.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Fire (from India)!

Also:

Mulholland Drive (for the visuals, and acting---though not as a love story, except in a David Lynchian sense... :paranoid)

Blow Dry (lovely little Brit comedy, w/ a bittersweet tinge)

All Over Me (Codependent wannabe rocker "Claude" *finally* buys a clue---and wins Leisha Hailey! :-D )

GG . . . and, it goes w/o saying, all six seasons of Xena!!! :x Out
