you left off The X-Files?!?!?! Come now... That would be my number one on any list. I never missed a single episode. I would also include Will and Grace, in their earlier seasons, Mad About You, and Poirot (from Mystery on PBS or now on A&E).

Wow, this is a tough one. I don't think I could come up with just ten, but off the top of my head I'd have to say, in no particular order: The Avengers, Dick Van Dyke show, Carol Burnett show, Hill Street Blues (Veronica Hamel-:thud :drool ), Designing Women, Twilight Zone...

Actually, I don't have to leave any show off.

*That* show went to shit for me in 2002.

Most of mine are scifi/horror cause that is what I like.

10. Battlestar Galactica – this was the height of my SciFi love. Watching the reruns on SciFi channel has reminded me how good the show was when it was good (and how bad it was when it was bad). Still it was a lot of fun.

9. Dark Shadows – ah my first gothic soap. I still have a soft spot in my heart for Angelique. I even liked the old 1990’s revival on NBC (and I still have it on tape).

8. The Others – short lived NBC weirdness fest. It was dark and spooky and I thought it was great.

7. Cosmos – so I am big geek, I liked the Cosmos mini series with Carl Sagan.

6. Charmed – one of the best witch shows ever made. Too much fun.

5. Star Trek TOS – The original. TNG [/b] – A great improvement on the original. Sure it had some down moments (all of Season 1) but it’s great moments were stellar. Nominated for a Best Drama Emmy too. DS9 a great idea, with some poor executions. Voyager, nice try.

4. X-Files – the show that launched a 1,000 paranoid, alien DNA infused clones. There would be no Fox Channel without it. I didn’t even mind the Dogget years.

3. Millennium – Better than it’s parent. Millennium might have been too dark for network TV. It failed where so many others did (like Buffy and Beauty and the Beast) and that is never kill off the female love interest. I lost interest when they killed Frank’s wife. Today I guess I would count my blessings that they didn’t murder his daughter too.

2. Farscape – the best new scifi show in ten years. Great ideas, wonderful stories and Scorpius is still the best bad guy ever.

1. Doctor Who – hands down the best sci-fi show ever and arguably the best TV show period. It has it’s flaws to be sure, but here we are 40 years later and we still talk about Doctor Who. There isn’t a genre show out there that has not stolen from Doctor Who. And Who still did it better.

Xena :love Xena :love Xena :love Xena :love Xena :love Xena :love Xena :love Xena :love Xena and :love Xena.

Okay, now that we know what is #1 w/ me, what really are the other nine?

Recall just How Old GG Is :skull , as some of you may only have seen these from cable re-runs (if there).

10) Dragnet (1960s version) : the classic cop show, upon which all others are based. Scripts are perfect examples of 60's cheese (and don't forget the "Anti-Sixties" didactism :lol )

9) Thirty-Something: raised self-absorbed 80's narcissism to new heights (or depths). But hey, if you lived it . . . (though truth be told, I was only in my 20s then)

8) Get Smart: maybe the greatest show of my misspent youth. The combination of humor, romance and techno-geekiness made me what I am today (but don't blame the show: "Sorry about that, Chief!" ;) )

7) "Weird FBI Tie" : Twin Peaks and The X Files

Both of these shows had their high points and low points (especially at both of their respective ends), but at their best though, both took us to delicious levels of weirdness and psychodrama.

6) Babylon 5: Space-station adventure as Greek epic (or was it the Old Testament?). Kick-ass cast and "Auteur" JMS made this sci fi saga unforgettable. (And, if you don't blink, there was the Talia/Ivanova love-story, complete w/ "cliche" ending :sigh )

5) The Mary Tyler Moore Show: "Our Mary"---smart, funny (and goofy, which I can relate to), and hey, she doesn't need a man to be a complete person! :banana "A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants"

4) The Odd Couple: and I didn't even get the gay subtext then! ;) Awesome writing: hysterical---yet heart-warming too (There must be some killer Oscar/Felix slash-fic somewhere! :p )

3) Star Trek: The Next Generation: Picard, you will always be god to me. Despite the all-too-frequent Deus ex Machina plot wrap-ups, it was still a hell of a ride on the Final Frontier (esp. kudos to "The Measure of a Man," and most of all, "Best of Both Worlds"). Greatest ensemble cast ever, well at least until . . .

2) . . . you know I had to say it: Buffy the Vampire Slayer - not the only show on my list to melt down (but the worst meltdown, sure). However, to me, the final dreck couldn't erase the memory of what came before. The super cast, and a *lot* of great writing (until the collective lobotomy set in). :willow :love :tara 4Ever!

GG Then there was this campfest about a "Warrior Princess" (Ay-iy-iy-iy! :punch ) and :luv2 her faithful "Bard" companion. :thud Y'know, nothin' much . . . else you need a TV for. :heart :happycry Out

Oooh, good thread!

There are a whole lot of shows I've enjoyed watching while they were on. Well, yeah, that's why I watched them, of course. If I'd made this list last week or tomorrow or three months from now, it might have some different shows on it. Compiling this was also difficult because I like different things and in different ways, for different reasons. So I decided that my criteria for this would be shows whose episodes I can watch over and over and still get something good from it. These are not necessarily what I think are the best of the shows I've liked, or the ones I most enjoyed at the time, but they are the ones that have remained most entertaining to me after multiple viewings.

In no particular order:

The Simpsons

South Park

The Carol Burnett Show

Count Duckula

The Critic

Absolutely Fabulous

Carnivale

Law and Order
(including SVU but not CI)

Quincy

I know it's cheating, but I'm going to lump a bunch of those Lear sitcoms from the '70s together: All in the Family, Good Times, Maude, The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son. It's hard for me to imagine some of those characters and the issues those shows dealt with playing so well on television today. And television is the worse for it, I think.

It´s actually difficult for me to come up with 10 shows, eventhough I watched quite a lot of TV in the past. One way of measuring whether I like a show more than average is whether I watch the reruns and all seasons have to be watchable at least.

10. V : the evil women were just so yummie

9. Twin Peaks : I never saw reruns, I hate the fact it just ended at the climax. It was so weird and creepy, I was just hooked, would not miss an episode.

8. Beauty and the Beast : I never did see the short lived 3rd season. At the time I was way into this, taping all the eps, gathering interviews, if there had been such a thing as the internet then, I´d have been on it. I´m over it now. Really.

7. Medisch Centrum West : (Medical Centre West) A Dutch hospital show. It aired when I just started medical school. It was crap I tell ya, pure stinking cheese. Horrible cliched soapy storylines and dialogue, blond bimbo nurse in lahv with the handsome doctor, the evil jealous doctor trying to sabotage the handsome doctor. Death, murder, X-rays hanging upside down. Totally stupid. They never aired reruns, but if they would I´d watch it, and I´d love every second of it. :laugh

6. Cagney and Lacy : I loved this show, despite Mary Beth´s voice. :p

5. Roseanne : mostly because of Darlene, she was the best, my sarcasm guru

4. Keeping up Appearances : a British comedy about a stuck up wanna be wishing she were the queen woman, Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet), wife to poor Richard, mother to Sher-i-daaaaaaaaan, neighbour to Elizabeth and terror of the neighbourhood and the rest of her trashy family.

3. Joan of Arcadia : An absolute delight to watch. The humor is great and the acting is superb.

2. Absolutely Fabulous : nuff said

1. Star Trek DS9 : By far my favourite ST show. I did not like the ending, but this show had some great regular and recurring characters. I loved the Bajoran mythology and complexity of relationships between the characters and the different species.

I think Tru Calling could make this list, but it is just a tad too early to tell. ER used to be on it, but it just kept dragging on and on.

G! I love Keeping Up Appearances. It's hilarious how hard Hyacinth is willing to work to keep those appearances up. I love her sisters, especially the slutty one. :lol I actually named my dog Onslow, because all he did when we got him was just lay around like he was dead. He perked up when he got used to things here, but the first impression we got of him was distinctly Onslow-like.

They keep repeating it here and I never tire of it. There is nothing she won´t do in order to become part of high society. Of course she always fails in a grandiose manner. Onslow is the only one who is not shaken by Hyacinth, but then not even an earthquake would shake him. :lol

I loved All in the Family too btw, a very clever show, especially given the time in which it originally aired. I like my comedy shows with a healthy dose of sarcasm, I prefer that over any other kind of humour.

I like comedy so there'll be a lot of old UK stuff, but in no particular order

Edge of Darkness [1984 nuclear/environment/conspiracy]

ER. [especially the first few seasons.. where it was nicely edgy]

Hill Street Blues [ditto]

Red Dwarf [smeghead!]

The whole Blackadder canon [found it, grabbed it, spent it]

Buffy [S1 - S5, great tv, no retrospective hatred here]

Father Ted [Irish surrealism at it's best]

Dad's Army [an ensemble masterpiece]

Dead Like Me [here because I really really want this show to work]

and, best of all....................

Bagpuss [happy, sad, maudlin, optimistic. it allways makes me want to cry. I suppose it's an age thing]

Oh, and anything with the very yummy Siobhan Redmond, the 40 something male's favourite red-haired, green eyed, willowy, intelligent totty

Loads of others which I may put up when I change my mind.....

Ooh, good topic. I'll throw in my two cents.

10 - Keeping up Appearances. "Richard!!"

9 - Gummi Bears. That's right, all stare at me, but it's true! I loved those bouncing bears! :bounce ....:D

8 - Ellen. Boy, i miss her....

7 - Red Dwarf. Smeghead. :rofl

6 - Rosanne. I'm with the G-man on this one. Darlene was what did it for me. Cute, funny, painfully sarcastic... she was great.

5 - Friends. Great cast, great writers. Good show. :)

4 - ER. Can't help it, i'm hooked.

3 - Buffy. Of course, not anymore... but at one time, when our girls were around.

2 - Xena: Warrior Princess. Lucy, Renee, leather, kicking ass... god, how much i loved, and still love, this show.... wasn't too happy about the overall ending though....

1 - Bad Girls. Not sure if any of the kittens get this where they are... but it's huge in the UK. For those of you who do watch it.... Mandana Jones, anyone? Simone? A bit of Helen and Nikki?:kiss2 Heehee... okay, stopping now... :whistle

Helen - Oh please Nikki, be serious!

Nikki - I want to make love you to all night long... is that serious enough?

ooh, gotta love TV shows!

Here's mine, I can't put them in order though, that would involve many hours of re-arranging.

Xena:Warrior Princess - And not just because it was filmed in NZ and Lucy Lawless is a fellow Kiwi...but because it had Amazons, chicks with swords, chicks in skimpy leather outfits...need I go on?

Alias - Is it just me or does Jennifer Garner manage to look fantastic no matter which wig she's wearing? Great show, confusing plot...

Buffy - The seasons with Amber in them are my favourites...I havent even seen most of season 7, it just wasnt the same.

Star Trek Voyager - female captain, cool cast, some great story lines and lots of the Borg - fave ST villains!

Dark Angel - i know lots of people don't like this show but I thought it was a great concept, Jessica Alba in leather...great concept indeed.

Doctor Who - Ah, childhood memories of being terrified by the Darleks and fascinated by red telephone boxes...

That 70s show - currently my favourite comedy on the box, I love Fez!

Hogan's heroes - damn I loved this show when I was little, I can still whistle the theme song!

Charmed - not so much the new seasons, I liked the show better when Prue was still on it.

Mcgyver - Swiss army knife anyone? Best theme song of all time ;)

And that's my humble little list...

I was thinking I could do this at first, I mean it can't be as hard as naming my top 10 albums or singles of all time, now that would be torture.

But I still can't do it. Too many things to consider - how about shows like Frasier for example, which I loved for the first couple of years and then stopped watching altogether. Or, uh, Buffy? What to say about that??? But I've enjoyed reading these lists, and I do have to add two shows that would certainly be on any top ten show list of mine.

MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS - I can still reel off the dialogue for entire skits, with very bad imitations of the very bad original fake accents.

HOMICIDE:LIFE ON THE STREET- The most consistently brilliant tv drama I've ever seen. Acting, writing, direction- superb.

My Top 10

Postby Kita830 » Thu Feb 05, 2004 9:26 pm

I like this thread...it's interesting to see the similar interests of the Kittens.

My top 10 (well, 9...I couldn't think of another):

9. Baywatch - I think a lot of women missed out on this show...*sigh*...I pity those who were scared away.

8. Angel (sometimes) - While there are many, many aspects of this show I dislike, I really enjoyed the 1st and 4th seasons, and I'm currently enjoying the 5th.

7. The Odyssey - I think I was one of the few people who watched this show...it was a really interesting kids' show, though. It never comes on anymore though, and I don't have any tapes of it, so it's slowly fading from memory.

6. Friends (the early seasons) - I haven't kept up with this one in a really long time, but I used to be obsessed with it, and still love to watch it when I can.

5. My So-Called Life - My first love. I watched this show when I was in middle school...it led to all of my other shows.

4. The Net - Too bad it was cancelled so quickly. It was amazing...I guess its wonder never caught on though.

3. BtVS - Despite the...uhh...really crappy last season and a half, 'twas an excellent hour's viewing. Can't get enough of (most of) Buffy.

2. Xena: Warrior Princess - Another excellent show...and I still maintain that Joss must be Xena's biggest fan because for almost every Buffy plot there's a Xena ep to go with it.

1. La Femme Nikita - The best show there ever was, is, and will be. Nothing can compare to the amazing mixture of everything wonderful in this show...beautiful people, beautiful plot...beautiful everything. :(

Kim Possible. Yeah, it's a cartoon, sue me.

Mystery Science Theater 3000. Best thing to happen to cheesy SciFi movies since Elvira. ;) I have tons of tapes of this, I just have not watched them in years.

Monty Python's Flying Circus. The reason why you can never, EVER say anything about the Spanish Inquistion around my friends. That and Mel Brooks. Wait, The three reasons are Monty Python, Mel Brooks and the bad Lance Hendrickson movie of the Pit and the Pendulum and my friend's Bob wedding. Four reasons! Wait, among the reasons you never talk about the Spanish Inquistion are... Let me start over.

since it's an "all time" list, there are shows on this list that I probably wouldn't love anymore if I rewatched them, but this is a list of shows that I adored at one time or another. Some of them it was only for a season or two, or while certain characters were on them - but they all deserve to be on this list, because if someone mentions them to me, I always remember how much I loved each show...

10. Under the Mountain (a NZ "kidult" sci-fi drama, during the 80's this was the best type of tv that NZ produced - except for the soap "gloss". This one was my favourite - based on a kids book by Maurice Gee. I'd still be a little creeped out by anyone with the last name "Wilberforce")

9. Happy Days

8. Battlestar Galactica (I was only about 6 - 7 years old when this was on tv, but I loved it. My parents took us to Universal studios when I was 8, and all I remember was how excited I was to see the cylons!)

7. The Simpsons

6. neighbours (the early years - 88 - 92...the Scott and Charlene years!!)

5. Bad Girls

4. Ab Fab

3. The Flying Doctors (I didn't realise it then, but probably my first "shippy" program - Kate & Geoff - now that has to be the most frustrating 'ship ever on TV)

I can't decide on my all time number 1 program. They both were the best thing on tv at one time or another, and both spectacularly crashed and burned. So, in alphabetical order, my top two are,

BtVS

the X-files

It realy is a difficult list to make, but after some thinking, I guess mine could go like this :

10 - 21, Jumpstreet (never had the oppurtunity to rewatch it, but it was the first time I really felt passionate about a tv show)

9- Roswell

8- Sex and the City

7- The Simpsons

6- C.S.I

5- Quantum Leap

4- Six Feet Under

3- Angel

2- The X-Files

1- Ex aequo, BtVS and Xena, I really cannot choose ; I hated both in their last seasons as much as I still love the earliest ones.

Hmmm...

1. Futurama- I'm surprised nobody else has put this up. I loved this show! I was so pissed to hear that they were getting rid of it...

2. Xena. Xena. Xena. It's all about Xena.

3. Mystery Science Theater 3000. A work of genius.

4. The Twilight Zone. The original version.

5. The Simpsons.

6. Star Trek: TNG

7. The X-files

8. Baywatch. Mmmm....

9. Buffy- what the hell, it's got Aly and Amber.

10. The Twilight Zone- the remake. It's still pretty good, but it can't measure up to the original.

Willow: Hey Buff. One more thing. Buffy: Yeah? Willow: I’m gay. Buffy: Okay, Will. Xander owes me ten bucks.
