The Gilmore Girls and Other TV Alternatives

Hi everyone. It's premiere week, I know a lot of us will no longer be watching Buffy, and are migrating over to the Gilmore Girls.



For those interested or tuning in to the show I want to remind everyone that the WB is airing the first season episodes all over again, in succession, every Sunday at 7pm starting tomorrow with the pilot. They are running the series and calling it Gilmore Girls: Beginnings.



The new season 3 episodes start on Tuesday, 8pm.



Mods, I'm not sure if this is okay, but I thought it would be nice to have a thread (one general thread, rather than an every week thread) to discuss the episodes, as I know several kitties will be tuning in. If not, that's okay, feel free to get with the deleting.



For anyone who has never seen the show, it is witty, and sharp, and well written, and full of pop culture references, and has the completely amazing Lauren Graham. All great reasons to tune in. I think it will perfectly fill the Buffy-shaped hole we are all dealing with on Tuesdays.

Oh i love that show. It is sooo funny.

And i'm so thankful that i'm able to see it by downloading each and every episode, cause i don't live in the U.S.

I love the humour of the show and Lauren Graham is really uh..hot *ahem*

Once in an episode she gave me a good laugh, when she was joking around that she is "related" to god.

She was like "I can't believe i'm related to god, that is soo cool"

Well, i'm really happy to hear that the 3rd season starts in a few days!

I have to concur with BBOvenGuy--Rory and Paris together is a great idea. And hey, they spent the summer in Washington--perfect opportunity!



As for the Gilmore Girls pilot, it actually aired last Sunday. I recorded it while on vacation and watched it a couple of days ago and was surprised to see how relatively slow and unfunny it was compared to how the show is now. I've already seen the rest of season 1 and can say it does quickly improve.

I'm all with the giddies... Tuesday will be my first hour with the Gilmore Girls. Though I have no idea what the hell is going on or who anyone is, I shall learn. Hopefully this show will make me smile frequently and cry occasionally, and not blind side me with a truck and then mock my injuries like that other show I used to watch on Tuesday night.

I love the Gilmore Girls. Last season was kind of "eh" but I watched it anyway. If you are just starting I highly recommend trying to catch the first season as it airs on Sundays.



And Rory really needs to dump both of those boys.

Paris is my favorite character, I'll watch any episode as long as she's in it.

There's something coming on Gilmore Girls this year that's going to be very interesting to watch in light of all the Whedon-conditioning we've been subjected to.



In some ways, this is a spoiler, but considering that the Executive Producer of Gilmore Girls has been saying it in a number of interviews, I'll talk about it here. It has already been announced that Rory will not be fulfilling her life's dream of going to college at Harvard. It would simply twist the series format too much - you can't have Rory in Boston while Lorelai and the rest of the cast are still in Connecticut. More likely Rory will end up at Yale, where she'll still be close enough to home for plenty of wacky Gilmore hijinks.



Now, if Joss was writing Gilmore Girls, the end of Rory's Harvard dreams would probably come with a lot of pain and anguish, most likely with some female-empowering rape and skin-ripping-off thrown in for laughs. And the scary thing is, a part of me is kind of expecting that to happen. I can't wait to be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't.

I love Gilmore Girls, although I missed the entire first season and really enjoyed seeing the first episode last Sunday. I find that the humor is often relentlessly fast whenever Lauren Graham opens her mouth...and I'm now going to start rooting for Paris, too. Thanks, Bob!



I don't suppose the GG staff will ever get the bright idea of hiring Amber Benson as a new regular....

Thanks to such great advertising by the Kittens I started watching Gilmore Girls recently. I think its only the first season, which is great as I haven't missed too much.

What I've seen of the GG--which I admit isn't that much--has seemed a little overwritten, if anything, to me. However, the last half of BtVS's opener is going to be opposite the second episode of "Life With Bonnie," so I suspect I'll switch over or back-and-forth at that point...unless Whedon pulls something really unexpected out of his hat.

LOL! Bob, I couldn't agree with you more! Paris is completely repressed, IMHO. Definately a closet case. My god, when she finally has her first big-O, it will be like the scream heard round the world! Heh heh heh. Plus Dean is Mr. Completely Boring and Annoying. And Jess needs to get with Lane.



Also, I keep thinking that Jenna Elfman should reprise her role as Dharma and join the cast as Lorelei's love interest. Heh heh heh. Lorelei would make a great lesbian. Sadly, I don't think she EVER would be, but, hey, welcome to the world of slash.

I love Gilmore Girls! Last year I taped the show, while watching Buffy, but this year Gilmore Girls all the way ! It's funny because I too always wondered about Paris, and I agree she would be much better for Rory than Dean or Jess. However, if I had to pick a between Dean or Jess, I say Rory should go with Jess, I do like his unpredictable nature, and anyway Dean is just too boring.

One of my favorite episodes is the one where the Bangles guest played. That was a lot of fun. Plenty of Rory/Paris moments. I find those other two girls lots of fun too, Louise and Madeline.

Well out of curiosity I started watching as well a few weeks ago and have seen 2 eps so far from season one, I think I missed only the first 2, they just started airing this show here. I must say it was quite amusing. I liked it. The dialogue is very witty and no one got blown away and I was still entertained, who would have thought?

I will definitely continue to watch as I have some 45 minutes to spare now every week.

Well GG just started airing here in France, but thanks to the Kitten Gimore Girls Promotion Brigade (aka Bob) I've already read transcripts from the entire first two seasons - and I have to say this is probably the best-written show, ever, period. Lauren Graham is unbelievable, Alexis Bledel blows my mind - and my french self has a soft spot fro Michel.*g* I can't wait to hear all about Season 3 and to discuss it with my fellow Kittens.

I love that show, but have to agree with Willowlove about the first ep., not quite up to par. I know by the third ep. they had it down. Haven't see the 2nd ep. seeing that tomorrow

I've only managed to catch a few episodes on Wednesdays on Global (which means I can watch both GG & BtVS, if I dare to watch the latter this year) and it never ceases to amaze me with how incredibly talented Alexis Bledel is as an actress with so few TV and film credits to her name at the moment, let alone the flawless chemistry alongside the adorably perky Lauren Graham.

That 70's Show is absolutely hilarsious. 8 pm Tuesday nights on Fox. I cannot recomend this show enough.

LMAO! Very nicely put....I love Paris, but can't see her with Rory. Rory needs a sweet, music-lovin', 'stuck in the 70s' type of girl.



I love Secret Life of Us, which is surprisingly good for an Australian drama, IMHO. There are quite a few gay characters and there's been a lot of kissage (amazing, for Australian censorship...). Not really any lesbian lovin' as of yet...hmm there was one scene, actually, but I'm sure we'll get there eventually. I think it's coming to Europe (Norway, England, Scotland?), so watch it!

Last night was the season premiere of Charmed. Now, I must admit that Charmed is shamelessly goofy and the guest cast's acting abilities are often questionable, but I like the show anyway. They play for real just often enough to keep me interested, and it looks (to someone like me who knows very little about Wicca, anyway) like they've done their homework on Wicca and witchcraft instead of just making stuff up as they go like a certain other show I could mention.



Anyway, last season I noted that the newest Charmed One, Paige, was doing a great job of carrying on the "bad wardrobe" tradition of witchcraft that our Willow and Tara so often displayed. Well, guess what I found out when I saw last night's episode? They've now given Paige red hair.



She's also turning out to be a really quick study when it comes to her powers, too. Fortunately, I'm not all that worried about her turning evil - all the Charmed Ones do that on a regular basis and it hasn't hurt the series yet.

I'd recommend checking out "Star Trek: The Next Generation" on TNN, even though the black bar is atrocious. And "The Host" and "Outcast", their eps on homosexuality, make me want to hurl things at the TV.



Hopefully, "Deep Space Nine" will be shown soon with the coolest, most kick-ass "Star Trek" charachter of all time Major Kira and, of course, the bisexual Jadzia Dax. "Rejoined" definitely makes up for Treks previously gay "issue" shows.

I have to respectfully disagree with you Vix84. Australian censorship is actually rather more lenient regarding gay relationships, and especially displays of affection, than free to air TV in the US. If you look at the article I posted in the GLBT issues thread you will see that there are more gay characters on free to air tv in Aus at the moment than in the US.



Traditionally, Australia has always been far more tolerant of sexual mattes, than of violence. The Mardi Gras parade is prime time TV! You can't get more blatant than that.........
