I hate to say this but suicidal, stalker, 1950's cliche Lena has done me in.

With one fell stroke they have killed the character of Lena and killed the Lianca love. What a waste of a great character and fun story.

I quit waching when the rape happened because I knew there was no way McTrash would do it well, but I kept lurking on the boards for a sign that the horror had passed and it was safe to come back. Now I don't think I will even be able to do that.

They have taken Lena and turned from a smart, strong, sexy woman into a pathetic, mentally unstable shadow of her former self. If there is a Linaca reunion I bet they get 1 week of joy, after which Lena will find out that the rat poison has caused serious internal damage and she only has a few months to live.

Talk about fullfilling the lesbian cliche. Now all I want is for Lena to get lots of therapy and move far, far away from Pine Valley. No, I'm not bitter - why do you ask :rolleyes

Isn't it just so awesome? Just think of ALL of the soap couples they beat out.. That is some feat, and it shows that they have crossed all lines in terms of appeal to the audience. It's not just a 'gay thing.' BTW, Olga was on Sirius today.. Didn't give out any spoilers, but did mention that Maggie was straight. Said she hoped Lena and Bianca get back together, get 'married' and raise the baby together.Thought Lena would be an excellent, mature parent..

What a doll Olga is :heart One of my friends passed along this transcript of an interview Olga Sosnovska did on SiriusOUTQ.

I thought you might enjoy reading what the lahvley Miss O had to say about a few things near and dear to our hearts. Here goes:

Quote:
Caller 8, Lisa in San Francisco, CA – “As a bi woman, I just want to thank you for making Lena such a fabulous bisexual.” Olga: “I think her mind is pretty much one track at the moment, she’s very much girl-oriented.”

Lisa: “Where would you like to see Lena go next?”

Olga: “[chuckles] Don’t tempt me. I would love for this, for the story to develop as it should with Bianca. I would love for it to go all the way. I would love for us to get married and raise the baby: I think that would be fantastic because, let’s face it, I’m the only one [chuckles] who would be a good enough mother for the child. I think I’ve got the maturity – ‘I’ meaning Lena, obviously – I think they’d make great, great parents: that’s what I’d like to see. Apart from that, I think there’s some mileage in terms of giving Lena something to think about in terms of her sexuality, perhaps giving her some tough decisions if she keeps being rejected by Bianca, to perhaps have an alternative and to have to make up her mind. And you know, it’s a soap, anything can happen. I mean, if you let me loose on a script [laughs] , probably all sorts of things might happen.

and then this wonderfulness :pride

Quote:
John asks Olga what she thinks about proposed legislation to ban gay marriages, references the idea to add an Amendment to U.S. Constitution: does she think stars have a role in speaking out and taking sides?

Olga: “Yes. The answer to that is yes, yes, yes. This is the power I think of daytime TV . The subtlety is such that, every single day, people learn that people live with the situations on a daily basis. Almost subliminally I think people out there who would normally not come into contact with – or knowingly come into contact with – gay or lesbian people are having to. It’s part of the every day story of the people they watch, they see these are normal, charming, beautiful, valid stories and people and so that in itself and the fact that we’re on the show is important. Secondly I believe very strongly in human rights [laughs ironically]. I can’t believe there is so much discussion about this: surely it’s for two people to decide whether they wish to get married or otherwise and not for the government. All I can say about that is that, if I were gay, I would not be able to physically be with my husband right now. We come from two separate countries and the only way that we could even be together [ahem, yes, actually, because she’s a Brit and, in the UK, gay people can sponsor their partners. In fact, any EU citizen who resides in the UK can do that. But I digress.] was to get married because that’s the only way you can work in each other’s countries If my husband were my gay partner, this would be legally impossible, which horrifies me. I just find it horrific that, in the 21st century, you can be stopped from being with the person you love through bureaucracy, through paperwork. I hope that some years down the road people take a look at this with the same disbelief the way we look at other things from years gone by. I hope that we hurry up and sort this out because it’s almost laughable, really.

So I was at the store and saw the magazine so happy to see my lesbians in the centerfold of the soap rag! Hee, still amuses me, but this is quite the historic moment, so I gave it a scan, I had a little time to play with, not easy cause I had to put together 3 separate scans to get this thing in, but I am pleased.

Those two are sweet together.

Maybe someone can let me know when the story ever gets back to a sweet place! Lena thinking that Bianca's happiest day ever would come from finding out someone had died...? Yuck! Relief, yeah. Happy? I prefer to think of happy was when Lena and Bianca were all smoochy and in lahv.

Thanks Xita, that is a great scan, not a trace of those staples, hee. The storyline may suck, but at least the surrounding publicity is generating something good. Like this, just look at Olga's quote, it is there for everyone to read. Hopefully words like that and the image of these two lovely ladies will influence the prejudices or fears of some against anything gay for the better.

Postby PheeNiks » Sun Sep 28, 2003 10:40 pm

I know a lot of you here are Liancalites, but you can obviously see where this storyline is headed.  Lena/Binx/Maggie TRI-ANGLE. In which I think Maggie will win out. If she doesn't what's the point of it all?

This whole thing of Maggie vs. Lena actually gives me a headache to think about it. Why are some viewers angry at/dislike Maggie, but so accepting of Lena? Now before I begin my rant, clearly I'm for BAM (now I am, I wasn't before), so there is no doubt my biased opinion will resonate loud and clear, but I pride myself in looking at grey areas cuz I certainly don't like when people just see *me* in black and white. I have layers too!

I read this thread from the beginning and know that a lot of you were eXXXcited about a BAM pairing.  but after the 1/6/03 episode...and the dreaded "I love you Bianca. I really do. But I'm into guys" line - everyone is like "Maggie?? BAH!"

Actually, I think many peeps are open to a triangle because Maggie and her support have made her just as viable as Lena. The only peeps really abrassive that I have seen are fans of Bianca/Lena, a lot of which came in AFTER the kiss and was just into Lianca, and they didn't really see the relationship between Bianca and Maggie before then.

And I think that's why a lot of fans rag on Maggie, because even though she said she's "into guys" she's STILL perceived as a threat to Lena/Bianca relationship. Which means to me, that she could still end up with Bianca's heart - no matter what she said in January. It can still be turned around. Because that 1/6 episode (after everything leading up to it) didn't convince everyone without a shadow of doubt, that Maggie could never be in love with/have a physical attraction to Bianca. And I think a lot of people know that too...

Maggie never said, "I could NEVER love you like that," or "I'm not attracted to you at all," or any of a dozen things she could have said about her feelings for Bianca. In fact she admitted she had feelings for Bianca "intense feelings". Maggie's being "into guys" STILL doesn't answer the question about whether she is "into Bianca". But in Bianca's mind it does, apparently, and if she had not been so quick to say, "That sounds like an answer, not a question," then I think the conversation could have continued. The writers could SO easily bring this up again. And say Maggie was just confused...she was scared of her feelings and she went with (like Maggie always does) "the easy answers".

I still don't understand why so many gay folks are looking at this situation as being so black and white though. I don't know if it's just because they are all about Lena or because Maggie now gets associated with the idea of a bi-curious girl who flirted with someone and then ran back to" boystown". I know a lot of people get their hearts broken that way and and maybe dislike Maggie right now because she seems an embodiment of that kind of stereotype. As in all things soap related (and in real-life), I don't think it's nearly that simple.

And, from a purely selfish standpoint, I'd like to see this kind of story play out in daytime just because it very much the story of A LOT of gay women.

I really think this is a really pivotal and deeply emotional aspect to gay/bi women and in that way there is such wonderful story to be explored here. But unfortunately it also means that a lot of fans are going to polarize over the issue because of those same issues which give it such rich dramatic potential in the first place. I don't think there would be such anger and passion over it if it wasn't really one of the only stories of this type to be told period, let alone in daytime.

It's really irritating with the bashing towards Maggie/Liz, when Liz is trying so hard to make the audience feel that Maggie loves Bianca more than she lets on. It's weird how some Liancalites classify Lena to be lesbian, but Maggie can't ever be gay at all because Lena has already filled the "gay quota", and Maggie would taint the gayness of the show(?).

I've been lurking at other boards and lots of the posts seem to mention that Maggie can't be with Bianca because it would not be realistic. Hello?! Are these REAL gay people??? This is since she has said that she was "into guys" and that she was with Henry and that she mentioned to Henry that she had feelings for Bianca but they were not sexual. Maggie has implied that she was "straight" and that the writers need to remember that. I had feelings for my girlfriend they didn't start out as sexual. The emotional attraction sort of became a catalyst for the later sexual feelings I developed for her. She is my first and only woman (like Maggie I was with one guy before her), and we've been together for almost 5 years. What would you label me as.? Gay, bi, "curious". Or just a woman in love with a woman? Some people say "Love is Love" but do you really believe that?

Maggie is younger than Lena, she still needs time to explore her feelings, and believe me, saying she is "into guys" is not concrete evidence at that age and it doesn't sounds as convincing as "I'm straight and have no romantic feelings for you and never will" which is what the writers could have done to completely squash this. Instead Maggie said she was "confused", "had a lot of questions" (that she never asked by the way), and she skirted the issue for quite a while before saying the dreaded "I'm into guys" line. If it was THAT simple, why didn't she just say that in the first place instead of saying she was confused and didn't know what to make of her and Binx's relationship. During that entire 1/6 conversation, Maggie looked torn. You could say she just didn't want to hurt Bianca or you could say she just didn't have the answers to what Bianca was pushing her for. Or you could say she was just not ready to handle what the answers to those questions were.

And, I do remember a time not too long ago, when Lena was enjoying some time in the sack with a man named Michael Cambias. And it was NOT because she was forced to sleep with him, because of her mother, as some peeps have mentioned. Thank god, McTavish cleared that up on the radio. Lena also mentioned that she has been with other men.

Maggie has given more attention and care to Bianca than any guy she's been with and that's evidence of love to me. I have never met anyone with a "friend" who has shown the same level of devotion and love than Maggie has. If they remain best-friends than it is truly a great relationship. If they become more than friends - then it is also totally believable and VERY realistic. It happens in real life...all the time. People don't just wake up and say "Yay let's be gay today!". Some people really struggle with confusion and denials about their feelings - and who they really are. That's why I want this story to play out this way. If it doesn't, then that's cool too. Leave Binx and Maggie as the bestest of pals.

Yes, Liz gets some crap from the lesbian community, but that may be because they don'tknow how much she wants it...and has been so incredibly vocal. and STILL is. She actually wanted BAM, even said she was a little jealous that Eden and Olga got THE KISS.

YES the Jan 6 episdoe was a cop out by the writers. Always will be. A lot of people love it. I actually did, in terns of acting for Liz and Eden - it was great stuff. But in terms of storyline and history. It sucked.

And it just seems to me that to some people that it doesn't matter one lousy bit all the crap that Lena put Bianca through and the fact that Lena WILLINGLY slept with Michael (and openly flirted with Boyd too) and now Bianca's rape...no matter how utterly selfish Lena can be, it's all good because she's a LESBIAN. It doesn't matter that the s/l is has more holes in it than a piece of swiss cheese or that Bianca and Lena don't know each other very well because some just wanna see two women kissing on their screen. *Blah*

It's like Lena came in (looking to scam and cheat) and Bianca just latched onto the first woman that showed interest - and so did I! I will admit that 2 women kissing on TV got my eyes poppin. But I think that having it be the first lesbian relationship (or sex/kiss: whatever) had me rooting for Lianca. They didnt' have a true connection. And Bianca has forgiven Lena more times than I care to remember now. It did make Bianca seem rather desperate for a lover. And maybe she is/was.

Lena can be laughing and scheming in bed with Michael Cambias, plotting the overthrow of Erica's company, lying to Bianca, etc., but because she says she "laaahvs" women, then suddenly she's the love of Bianca's life???!! Meanwhile Maggie has never lied to Bianca, never betrayed her trust, has DEMONSTRATED her love for Bianca over and over and over again (not just verbalizing it), but because SHE said she is "into guys", (and surely slept with fewer men than Lena) well now she's just WRONG.

Everything about how Lianca was written was to make the audience feel good for Bianca, because she wasn't getting jilted by 'straighteys' anymore. But I guess Bianca has done a lot of waiting and when Lena came along it was like "This one MUSTbe right since she approached ME." Not only did they have Bianca rush into this relationship because she was so damn desperate for love, but they also sleep with each other in the span of TWO WEEKS on the show, not PV time. That's NOT the Bianca we know. That's NOT the Bianca that we care about. It actually made me dislike Bianca a teeny bit. She wants romance, and this was the easiest route to it. There was no build-up, so it made Bianca seem easy. I really didn't like that. If it's a gay stereotype people want to fight, there's one right there, with the quick jumping into bed and having sex and the rings (can we say "U-Haul Syndrome?) That all happened faster than you can say affidavit.

I was 50/50 on either BAM or Lianca. But I'm definitely on the side of BAM cuz now that I think about it - Maggie and Bianca would have a more believable relationship - a REAL deep-seeded relationship that would last. There was build up...connection..growth...unconditional love...not to mention - time. They fought, they apologized...they had tension, longing looks and sentimental moments. They had all the makings of the start of a super-soap-couple. And still could be if they take it that route.

If viewers are so accepting of Lena as "Bianca's soulmate" have they not taken into account that Lena has done what Maggie has? Maggie goes and sleeps with one guy and viewers are like, 'oh she'll only hurt Bianca'. Hello! And Lena has been a gayly saint this entire time?

I mean you cannot deny they have seen a relationship grow between BAM and a very intimate one at that. Ok, sure, there was no wild hot monkey sex, but they just take one look at each other and we know they're loving each other.

People who say "Love is love" are absolutely right! We tend to see what we want to see, some see Lianca, some see BAM and some even see it's-a-phase.

But I see that the HUGE Lianca/Olga-Eden lesbian fanbase would have been a huge BAM/Liz-Eden lesbian fan base had Bianca and Maggie had the first on-screen kiss!

I mean you guys remember all the controversy that came about when Willow - who was attracted to all kinds of guys, was in love with Xander and had sex with Oz...just "switched" her sexuality and became intimate with Tara. Now how realistic is that? Just because you start out "into guys" doesn't mean it stays that way and vice-versa. Nothing's set in stone. It's not that much of a stretch to have Maggie realize that she really, truly does love Biance THAT WAY now is it?

e.n.d.

Damn this was a looong post. Sorry...but I think I made my point. LOL!!

Ok, first, if you check back, I never liked maggie. I was ok with frankie, but never with maggie. I thought her character was a cop out from the very beginning. Plus she's boring, i am sorry she's boring. Lena may be lots of things but she isn't boring. If there is going to be a triangle make it good, bring back rain :cry or sarah, but Maggie is no competition for Lena, sorry.

I'll tell you what the difference is, both Lena and Willow experienced LOVE with women and they never looked back. That is why I can buy their sexuality as having emerged from love. It happens to us all, we meet a person that really makes it happen and we can't deny that.

If Maggie's love was so strong the choice would not have been so easy then. It's not like she's homophobic. Even now what she is doing is being controlling, because her life was out of control before Bianca crumbled like a leaf. I cringe when she's on screen because it's boring, oh yes confide, blah blah, where's the heat, the excitement, the passion, no where to be found. There aren't any pitter-patter moments, at least for me, it's very friendly.

For me the character of Maggie has always been badly written and poorly defined unlike Frankie. It says a lot for Liz that when Maggie is so annoying she still has lots of appeal. For instance when Bianca tried to kiss her on her birthday, the way she was always threatenting to leave town , the way she brought David to the hospital when Anna didn't want to see him and then told him to go away. That's in keeping with her behavior in this storyline where she's acting like a pit bull with anyone trying to get near Bianca.

Lena at least until McTavish took over was a much more interesting character, and I prefer that Lena to the current incarnation. It was fun to have sexy adult shenanigans with sexy adults. Maggie comes across as a kid, and aside from that one conversation in January there was also a conversation this spring where Bianca and Maggie talked about how much they enjoyed sex with their flawed partners.

As far as a triangle goes I don't think it would work. In comedy it's entertaining to watch two rivals when they're so unequal, it's a staple of classic comedy but dramatically it falls flat .The old Lena would have knocked Maggie into next week, and the old Bianca wouldn't have noticed. But the way all three are written now is a disgrace, McTavish has no use for strong women and it shows.

Maggie really needs a story that doesn't involve Bianca unless she's going to be the next Opal.

I can't speak for EVERYONE that watches AMC...but I can say that A LOT of people just started disliking Maggie because of what she said to Bianca. Sure some people never liked the character from the start and thought she was boring and pushy or whatever. But many, many people here were rooting for a BAM union. But I guess what the writers did felt like a slap in the face.

And...yea the OLD Lena was AWESOME. But they new and not so improved stalky, suicidal Lena gets on my nerves. I don't care much for her, now she just seems pathetic. But OMG Olga is so AWESOME!! I love her! And she is gorgeous. But the writers are assassinating her character! So maybe I should be ragging on the writers for portraying characters poorly. I mean Lena is what 30-something? And Bianca is just 19 (maybe 20?). So she doesn't need to be whole-heartedly mature for her age. The maturity of Bianca has definitely come out after all she's been through. So what Maggie is a little childish...Lena is a good decade older than the both.

This won't matter anyway if it never plays out like I think it will. But if it does. Just don't be TOTALLY shocked.

And yea Maggie definitely needs her own storyline away from Bianca to get her established as a character to get some traits and more dimensions, and that thing with Henry was just wacked. Maybe I should write AMC an email and give them some ideas. Funny thing about soaps, they can write total bullsh** and predictable storylines and we'll keep watching. We seem to get over it quickly I guess....

Lena's age has not been established. And I agree Lena of old was much better, still the character is a whole lot more interesting than Maggie.

I don't watch now :p I am not watching till they give me something good. I read what's going on and if it sounds good, I watch, otherwise I don't. Bianca is also a ruined character, I can barely stand to watch her right now. And I don't expect this to turn out ok, in fact, I expect them to continue to ruin anything good. They are thinking of letting kendall go and maybe Tad, that's dumb. Instead of using their best cards, they've gone with their worse. Too bad.

Well, it's important to look at why ABC and Frons never went with BAM to begin with..They did a poll of their general audience and found that the majority of viewers wanted Bianca to have a lesbian relationship, but not with Maggie. To be honest, I also don't think ABC wasnted to go down that whole teenage thing with "Am I gay or straight"? I think they thought it would be better to go a more mature route, hence Lena. And the current storyline aside, they (Lianca) ARE very popular.

They beat out every straight couple on AMC, they beat out BAM, and they beat out all of the couples on the other shows..THAT is some feat. As for the storyline, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out...

i have never been a big fan of maggie though i supported BAM because at least bianca would finally be having a relationship! i was a much bigger fan of frankie ... and well we know what happened there.

maggie has gotten more and more tiresome of late with her guard dog routine. if a triangle comes about it will not be a romantic one. it will be about maggie feeling threatened about losing her place in bianca's life.

amc barely has the courage to do justice to the lesbian relationship currently on screen, so i really don't believe a romantic triangle will happen.

yes weak lena is getting tiresome too - but she is stil the better partner for bianca. and i still believe they will be reunited ... soon!

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of Truth and Love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it, always.

Ok, hold on. The whole Kendall thing is just an unconfirmed rumor from Datalounge..Nothing more to confirm it, and they've been wrong before.

As for the reunion, I believe it will happen by Thanksgiving..All of the spoiler sources are saying they wil reunite and basing that belief on scenes they know have been filmed, though not necessarily the REUNION SCENE(there's a 4-week window). They are also saying that Lena/Bianca have a big story upcoming together that revolves around the baby. It could be wrong, but it is what they are ALL saying. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. But I agree with everyone here. The longer AMC drags it out, the more detrimental it is to them..Lianca is just about the only thing that clicked..

Maybe this win of the SOW pinup will show TPTB just how popular they are among gays AND straights..

Sorry to break up the Maggie vs. Lena debate. But, I heard about this post, and decided I wanted to bring it here. It's from the Olga board. As stated by mitorch:
Quote:
Not only did the writers get to cop out on any kind of a physical relationship, they also erased the emotional, loving relationship, turning Lena into a pathetic, obsessed "stalker" who was just an annoyment to Bianca (who was suffering something so much worse than unrequited love). Bianca's coldness and total negation of Lena's former place in her life was unrealistic and manipulative by the writers. I continue to loathe this story, especially now that they have reduced Lena to a cliche of the 50's and 60's -- a suicidal lesbian who can't take no for an answer. And Bianca is her own Lesbian cliche': the tragic, victimized Lesbian, paying for her sexuality by being raped. It's the most retro, offensive writing I've seen on the soaps in years -- and it's all the more offensive because the story began as something groundbreaking for daytime and was being done in a beautiful, sensitive non judgemental way.
I have been thinking this for some time now. First, when some people were cheering for Lena to kill Michael... still no one from the board acknowledged the cliché. I was curious as to why no one here was saying anything about this. When mentioning how clichéd the story was it always was followed by, "but, hey this is a soap." So, it's okay to have these clichéd lesbians as long as they're on a soap? This is excusable? Well.. it is a soap. How can you use that excuse for this and not make it fit for all television? Oh, well it is television, and these things happen to lesbians on TV.

I don't see how, of all people, the people here are standing by and not speaking up about this. You can't use the excuse "it's a soap." Daytime soaps reach a fairly large audience, and an audience that is probably close to the audience size a certain other television show reached. I don't think we should pick and choose when we fight for fair representation and when we don't. It makes the Lesbian Cliché faq on this board silly if we don't stand by it.

From Olga's interview as quoted on the previous page:
Quote:
This is the power I think of daytime TV . The subtlety is such that, every single

day, people learn that people live with the situations on a daily basis. Almost subliminally

I think people out there who would normally not come into contact with – or knowingly come

into contact with – gay or lesbian people are having to.
This is true. People are having to see lesbians on the TV. But, is this the kind of portrayal we want them to see? Lesbians being raped, homicidal, and suicidal? It doesn't sound so good to me.

Could you point me to a post where this storyline has been excused as it being part of a soap. I think most posters here have made it clear that they are none too happy about any of this. The rape itself, the way Bianca chose to not deal with it, the way they turned Lena into a suicidal lesbian. I think most people here have been anything but ok with this godaweful clichéd storyline. The fact that this is a soap does not excuse anything in my eyes. Angst is fine, but this is over the top and Lena and Bianca have gotten like two minutes of uninterrupted happiness and one brief kiss before the non stop misery that followed it. Hardly something to be happy or blasé about.

Girls, if you thought that pinup oster was hot you should check out this picture from the same photo shoot. It gives you whole new motivation to vote them as winners again.

Man, when are the writers going to stop wasting these great actresses!!!

Janice

Edited to add that I watched some of the ep today, in particular the Bianca and Maggie conversation about what Bianca is going to do with "the baby."

I almost screamed and cursed at the television, but a repairman was here, so I didn't, I just had a mental hissy fit.:rage

Have these writers taken courses from the ME staff on how to f**k up characters, storylines and dialogue????

Yuck!!! :puke :barf

Woo, thanks Kandahl, I look forward to Xita's high qualiteh scan. :flirt

Well at least they look happy off screen, pictures like that and the wonderful things those ladies say in their interviews is worth a lot. Now we can only hope that they will hire a writer who does not have controlling interest in the company that produces Prozac. A little less cliches and a little more happiness would not hurt.

Lena and Bianca are supposed to have a VERY Merry Christmas. The writers plan on getting them back together, most likely in November when it is sweeps month. I think, judging by what both Sage and Soapboy are saying, that Lena and Bianca will raise this child together, and though this hasn't been said, it has been strongly implied that they will probably either have a wedding or commitment ceremony in December. Lena and Bianca are going to have some intense scenes next week, but unfortunately it will be the one step forward, two steps back routine. More angst. But later the suicide attempt and the non-abortion come into play, and play into the reunion.

I know this storyline has been very frustrating at times, but if they reunite, have a ceremomy and have some happiness, then it will have been worth the wait.

BTW, I asked Soapboy if TPTB realize how popular Lianca is. He said YES, they do. But he also said this seperation will come into play in a BIG way. Keep the faith. And vote them as pinup couple again. That way we get another pinup with this even hotter photo. The link is at Olga's board..

I appreciate all that you're saying Kendahl. However, when you write "The writers plan on getting them back together, most likely in November when it is sweeps month," I'm wondering if anyone will have the patience to wait that long.

I hope this group of writers knows what they are doing, I really do, "cause I really don't want to invest myself again like I've already done twice, the first with Xena, the second (which was definitely worse) with Willow and Tara.

I just feel frustrated and think that the AMC writers are just pissing it all away, but that's just my opinion.

I have to say, it won't be worth the wait for me because I quit watching when it became clear they were going to fuck it up. If they bring it back together, that's great, but they've already lost me and probably quite a few other people as well.
