One of my favourite things about that parody is how they intercut it with bits of the real movie. Aragorn kneeling in front of Jack Black just kills me!!

The MTV spoof was funny but another one that was funny was on Mad TV, it was called The Lords of the Bling :lol

They did two, one for fellowship and one for TT, or as they called it, The Two Ta-Tas :rollin

They had the actors playing stars like...

Lil' Kim as Froho Bagguns

Sisqo as Tinsel the Elf

Bill Cosby as Randolf the Ghost Dad

Shaquille O'Neal as The Sorcerer Kazaam

It was hilarious :lol

Huh. Eowyn in armour. I missed that!

And I seem to remember a wee glimpse of Shelob. I was annoyed because I was watching with a friend who hasn't read the books so she has no idea what's next. She's got some pretty strange ideas about it. "Do they all become gods?"

OH.OH.OH.OH.OH.OH.OH.

Where can I see this? I thought you couldn't see it on the net till Monday?

Éowyn in armor. Gods am I looking forward to THAT scene, I have pictured it in my head for years and I am quite convinced that Miranda Otto will pull it off.

Shelob. OF course I need to see that. That is going to be great. I know exactly what the fanboys (and fangirls!) are going to be saying after seeing her, "dude, Jack SO has to do The Hobbit so we can see Mirkwood!"

I am bouncing around like a little kid right now.

BTW: I think I have decided to go with the Platinum versions of the DVDs, the ones with the bookends and the little Golum statue. I am such a fanboy when it comes to Tolkien.

I'm expecting my Two Towers DVD set next month. I can't wait to see "Return of the King". I have high expectations but LOTR is one series that meets them. Peter Jackson is a real talent who respects the material and his fans. He gives us what we want. I know that Return will kick @ss and can't wait to see Eowyn and the Witch King.

Postby Garner » Mon Oct 27, 2003 12:10 pm

Sam7777, I agree that Return is going to be one of the greatest things to hit the screen! And while I still take a bit of umbrage at some of Peter Jackson's choices, mostly what he did to Faramir and the Osgiliath section, he has certainly tried to remain true to the spirit of the books and has indeed treated the audience with respect and shown us what we want. Funny how that can turn into a huge commercial success and have artistic vision at the same time. Wonder who needs to learn that lesson?

I can't wait to see Gandalf and the Lord of the Nazgul face off and then the fight with Eowyn. It should rock!

I agree 100%, Garner--the Battle of Pelennor Fields should besensational!!! I also can't wait to see:

The Gandalf/Saruman confrontation at Orthanc

The final destruction of Mordor (preceded by Aragorn's confrontation with "The Mouth of Sauron")

The scouring of the Shire

The departure from the Grey Havens

etc

etc

etc

etc

Garner and I have been over this one before since we are both old school Tolkien geeks (I think I can get away with saying that right Garner?)

But yeah, changes were made in the movie. I see them as no big deal really. Sure Arwen's part was beefed up, Faramir is oddly out of character, and where exactly has Narsil been? But you know what, the changes (for the most part) work for me.

Besides, if the movie is getting a new generation to pick up the books, and by all indications it is, then great. Good for everyone really.

Yes Peter Jackson seems to understand, as did Tolkien, that you can give the people what they need and want at the same time. Peter Jackson is one of the most powerful persons in Hollywood now, and Tolkien is immortal.

I think everyone here is looking forward to Éowyn.

That is the other change that I really like. The women of Tolkien's Middle Earth were allways strong, I mean really Galadriel is like one of the three most powerful people in Middle Earth. Of course Éowyn has shown her strength, but who really got to shine in the movies was Arwen. Arwen of the books is a little different, and I like the changes Jackson made.

Either way Jackson has etched himself a permenant place in Tolkien history. And that is a pretty good thing.

You're welcome Hemiola :) , I am counting the days. Usually November is one of those rather boring months, like a sunday, the weather sucks, not much to do, no Holidays yet, but now there is this wonderful present to look forward to. I do look forward to it, despite my continuing grumblings at many of the changes made. The fact that the three women are more visible pleases me though. That was one of the two things I found lacking in the books. The changes with Faramir have upset me the most, that really was pointless, totally unnecessary. As it is, I look forward to all the extra minutes, from the brief glimpses on the regular DVD it looks like it will bring the movie closer to the books again. The entdraught Merry and Pippin have been given for example, can't fill 40 minutes with that though, so I wonder what other goodies await.

Return of the King

Postby Ragna » Fri Oct 31, 2003 9:10 am

I don't want to dissappoint anybody, but I think Peter Jackson said that we will not see the scouring of the Shire. He wanted to include it but it was too expensive and would have made the movie too long. But I have not heard anything similar about the Gray Havens, so I do hope those are included. I love this scene so much in the book, for it's not only an end but rather a conclusion to the whole story of the ring and the ring-bearers.

And I'm looking so forward to the extended version of TTT... :eatme

No scouring of the Shire? Not that I would really miss it, but it is the final battle and how is he going to explain what happens to Saruman without it? I don't see why including the scouring in the movie would be so expensive. They already built Hobbiton, it's there, other than make up for the hobbits there would not be a whole lot of special effects involved, certainly not compared to creating the huge battle scenes that will take place in RotK. Hum well, I guess we'll see.

oh and real name in hobbitish is Ponto Chubb-Baggins

Re: The Lord of the Rings

Postby Ragna » Sat Nov 01, 2003 5:05 am

Well, I have forgotten most of Peter Jackson's argumentation why including the scouring of the Shire was too expensive. Something about the extra shooting time plus burning the Shire probably. But they did that anyhow or at least they burnt the mill for the scene where Frodo looks into Galadriel's mirror. As far as I know Grima will somehow kill Saruman most possibly somewhere in/around Orthanc. But no definite answers to this. We'll just have to wait and see.

Ragna.

Re: The Lord of the Rings

Postby sam7777 » Mon Nov 10, 2003 7:18 pm

Yeah, I heard the the vision on Galadriel's mirror is it for the scouring of the shire. I think that they wanted to have a happy ending sooner and the scouring of the shire delays that. Grima will prolly kill Saruman at Orthanc as Ragna said. The look on Grima's face in Two Towers when Saruman shows him the army her is senidn against Helm's Deep shows enough motivation for him to kill Saruman. Despite all my disillusions with creators of genre media, I trust Peter Jackson to do right by LOTR.

Gawd I need my Two Towers DVD set. I'm went thru my LOTR: Fellowship design commentry track and will prolly do the production commentry track. I prefer the cast and Director commentary tracks but you can't beat looking at the film no wonder what folks are saying.

ETA: Big ROTK spoilers: click here for the BBC article and here for the Dark Horizons article

LOTR: Return of the King: Peter Jackson gave an in-depth update on the progress of the third "Lord of the Rings" film this weekend over at Aint it Cool News, mostly talk surrounding word that the characters of Saruman (Christopher Lee) and Grima Wormtounge (Brad Dourif) would not be returning even though a lengthy seven-minute scene involving the two and wrapping up events at Isengard was shot. In Jackson's own words: "When we viewed various ROTK cuts over the last few weeks, it feels like the first scenes are wrapping last year's movie, instead of starting the new one since Saruman plays no role in the events of ROTK. We reluctantly made the decision to save this sequence for the DVD. The choice was made on the basis that most people will assume that Saruman was vanquished by the Helm's Deep events, and Ent attack. We can now crack straight into setting up the narrative tension of ROTK, which features Sauron as the villian...The Saruman sequence will definately be a highlight of the Extended ROTK DVD". The article also would seem to indicate that "Return of the King" will clock in at almost three-and-a-quarter hours long, down from the early rough cut of over four hours (much of that will no doubt turn up on the Extended ROTK DVD).

I'm ok with it and understand why the decision was made. Actually I'm ok with anything that gives us the cool show down between Eowyn and the Witch King.

ETA2: I got my Two Towers DVD over the weekend. It rocks and the extra 43 minutes of footage really smooth out the story. I felt that Two Towers was a bit choppy in some fo the transitions. The extended versions add scenes that tell you what happened to the Orcs after Helm's Deep, what that horse that found Aragorn was about and nice extended scenes with all the characters. Great stuff! Now I have 4 commentary track for 16 more hoors of goodness and two appendices DVD's with even more goodness. Their interactive maps are really good for telling you who is where and doing what. Especially since we follow 3 groups in Two Towers: Frodo/Sam, Aragorn/Legloas/Gimli and Merry/Pippin. I can't wait to have the whole set of extended LOTR DVDs for a complete version of the saga.

Peter Jackson knwos how to give fans what they want.
