xita, I agree. More tree climbing please!

GG, Kate's not afraid of heights; I am.

Culzean, thanks. I'm curious too about what Kate is supposed to have done to warrant an arrest. I'm guessing that she fled to Australia as a getaway plan, but we'll find out sooner or later.

The guy in the suit was creepy, but this is turning into one long Twilight Zone episode, so I just kind of said, "Okay, now there's a creepy suit guy" and shrugged. The second time he appeared, I wondered why Jack didn't say, "Hey look, do you see that creepy guy in a suit over there?" to Kate.

On the other hand, after the whole boars thing, now I'm waiting for a survivor to go into the woods and find a boar's head on a stick, swarming with flies. But maybe that would be too literary for this pop show.

Webberific--check out the recaps on TWOP for the first couple epis. They're very funny about the unspecified crime that Kate committed. And pissed that we're not told what it was.

www.televisionwithoutpity...i?show=136

I read somewhere.. TVGuide or TWOP... that the creature killed the boar & Locke took it from there. Since the creature doesn't always eat its kills, could be...I wondered when Locke was staring at the creature if they will kill a character who has had a flashback. Not yet.

I'm not in love with this show like some other moderators, but I have been watching it. If only so I could understand what they were yammering about in chat.

Kate is hot. She should definitely climb more trees.

Jack bugs me. Sayid is cool. Locke is pretty cool. Did he really not see the creature?

I hope they show more of the creature(s) soon. I don't have a lot of patience for the, ooh, it's dark and you can't see what they see thing.

Michael bugs me but I kept wanting to like him and couldn't figure out why. Turns out the actor played the Yoga teacher reap in the first season finale of Dead Like Me. Heh, I guess I liked him in that role.

It's an interesting show, and unless they really annoy me, I'll probably keep watching it.

The mother pig was supposed to be 250 pounds , i think the monster ate the mother and locke got a piglet.

I think the monster is more then one animal , a leopard puts it's kills up a tree to keep other predators from getting it. Elephants knock down small trees to eat the upper shoots...

While infinity is the time it takes for everything to happen at least once, there is no way that anyone would live through a plane losing its tail at 1000 ft. much less 20,000 and then hitting the ground with engines in forward thrust, splitting into three pieces.

I have a feeling this is more Riverworld then gilligan island...

Daffy, thanks. It's odd because after I posted here yesterday, I went over to TwoP and skimmed through the Lost recaps.

You're right, the whole "unspecified crime" references are really funny. The way the Koreans are recapped bothers me though. Especially the way their dialogue/translations are recapped. Because most of it is made up by recapper Dan in order to be entertaining, and for a while it is, but in the end I don't know what the Koreans actually say and how they're reacting. Sometimes I can guess what they say by eliminating all of the sexual references that Dan includes, but still. I know this sort of thing happens in TwoP recaps in general, but most of the time there's a balance of what happens on screen as opposed to how it is recapped. I guess I'll have to find transcripts or really try to watch the episodes to get a more accurate view of the show.

Lost 10/20

Postby Gatito Grande » Thu Oct 21, 2004 12:50 am

I was so sure it was Dominic Monaghan (I still don't know his character's name) who stole the water (he pointed it out---that ol' ruse---plus he might headed into withdrawal by now).

But I was wrong---oh well.

After all Jack's flashbacks/visions, I thought that he would able to bury (burn?) his father (his father showed him the water, etc. and now his purpose was done). Wrong again. [You can't drink yourself to death Stateside? You gotta go Down Under to do so?] Man, does Veronica Hamel look older! I know it happens (except to Yours Truly :p ), but still . . . :spin

Sayid continues to be the voice of sanity (I hope they give him more to do/to do, though). Kooky Clare Kinda Cute w/ the Clarevoyant Cognition (of Kate): Kewl. Any other Geminis want to speak out for their sign?

Speaking of Kate: Evangeline Lilly's not really my type (what a name, BTW!), but I gotta admit, she's does great things w/ those pants. ;)

Vincent playing fetch: all together now, "Awwwwww!" (It's a lab thing :heart )*

GG Next week: looks like Daniel Dae Kim (is it "Jun"?) is about to see the same thing happening between Sun and Michael that I do. Looking forward to it! Out

*One caveat: I've heard/read too many "survival tales," where a dog is involved . . . :puke All I can say is, no matter how hungry *anyone* (inc. any monsters) gets, they better not even THINK of going there! :mad

Dominic Monaghan plays Charlie.

I know Sawyer was too obvious, but my money was still on him as the thief. I was really surprised it was Boone.

And Loche, he's just having too much fun, isn't he?

Did you notice Jacks mother telling him that he could not refuse to go after his father, not after what Jack had done? So now Jack has a secret in his past too. Maybe he and Kate can swap secrets soon. Though, judging by the promos that isn't likely.

I don't mind Jack, but I'm not particularly interested in him either so last nights episode was my least favorite so far. Looking forward to next week!

Michael Howard is the UK leader-of -the Opposition - i.e. leader of the Conservative Party. I can see how they get mixed up. And certainly, the description of him as one of Dubya's brown noses is accurate.

This last episode had way way way and did I mention way too much Jack in it. He is a boring "I don´t have what it takes" whiner with daddy issues. There are 46 people, a dog, a monster and a dead father on this island. Surely there are plenty of interesting stories to tell. Hopefully now that the pretty manly man is voted leader of the pack and now that he has accepted it, maybe we can move on to anything but Jack.

The few glimpses of the other characters were interesting enough. The life guard guy bugged me though, he needs to get over his inferiority complex. So far he has just been used as a prop to show Jack´s superior heroism (barf). The fact that Jack is better at resuscitating people can be explained by him being a doctor and all (though he does not need to be snotty about it), but now he got to save the life guard boy from drowning? Spare me. Anyway, the interaction between Kate and the pregnant girl was nice. I see an instant family there. :p

Sooooo, the young Korean wife does speak English--I figured they couldn't keep up that unable-to-communicate situation forever;) ! So daddy is (apparently) some kind of rich "gangster" type, hmmmmm:hmm .........

I know we have Korean-speakers and experts on Korean culture on this board. Perhaps they can answer a couple of questions:

1. In this episode (and on several other shows), I have heard the wife address her husband as something sounding like "yoh-boh". Is this an "honorific" (like "Husband" or "Spouse") or is it a Korean endearment (like "honey" or "sweetie")???

2. A previous post (see above) has already noted that some provinces of Korea are more "old-fashioned" than others. Are young men still expected to ask permission from a girl's father and/or parents to marry her in Korea? If yes, is this the widespread custom or just local in a few places??

I can't help recalling a famous old joke--

Strict Father: So, young man, I understand you wish to ask for my daughter's hand in marriage?

Nervous Young Prospect: No, sir. I want the good parts.

:lol :rofl :lmao

Re: Lost

Postby Culzean » Thu Oct 28, 2004 8:58 am

Well, last nights episode was way better than The Jack Show last week.

While watching, I had thought Sun was going to make her break after reaching the US, but was waylaid by the crash. But no, she was supposed to run off while in Australia. Then I thought she was going to try to get to the car, but because Jack was boging the counter her husband was still in line and had too good of a view of her. But no, those two possibilities were way too simple.

When Sun decided to stay with her husband, I got the impression she was motivated more by fear than love. She's been dominated by men her whole life. When she wanted to get away from her father, she didn't just leave, she wanted to get married and be taken away. I got the feeling she's terrified of being alone.

Sun is clearly drawn to Michael, but they're in different camps now. All the Jack/Kate hopefuls must be bummed that these two are now living apart as well. I'm thrilled by this, of course. Not as thrilled as I was by the site of Kate battling bees with her blouse, but pretty darn close.

On a negative note, I am ticked off that ABC has extended the length of the program to one hour and one minute so that they could add additional commercials. It's screwing with my Tivo!

Yoh-boh is not that honorific. But close enough. It's slightly old fashioned and too formal to young people.

Yes, you have to meet her family. You can marry her without their permission. But marriage is an union of two families in Korea. You can't ignore them. Specially when the husband is the oldest son. (BTW, nobody want to marry the oldest sons.)

I loved last nights episode. I actually watched it this morning because I was watching the Sox kick ass last night :) LMAO over the "they look more like C's" line, that was brilliant. And yummy for Kate in a bra, may there be more bee's on the island, it's a shame she couldn't find a tree to climb while she was at it!

I saw Thank You ABC for the Kate goodness!

I'm one of those shippers who like Jack and Kate together. The beginning of the episode was soo cute.

I personally don't know whether to side with Jin or not. He is this big dominating moron who usually treats his wife like crap, but I personally think he became this way because of the job. I don't know, but at the end of the Jin/Sun flashbacks, when he showed her the flower, I didn't know what to think, and I gotta say that Yunjin Kim, the actress who plays her, did a great job at showing how torn she was.

I liked it way more than White Rabbit. This show is coming along quite nicely I must say. :grin

Very enjoyable episode. Very happy at with every episode that does not pair Kate with Jack, but I fear they will be written together at one point or another. I´ll enjoy their non couplyness while it lasts.

Now I wonder where the pregant girl went. I can´t believe she would manage the walk to the caves, but she wasn´t there at the campfire.

I think it's a Lost related news...

I just heard a news about Kim Yun-jin's new Korean movie project called "October Diaries". It's a serial killer movie and Kim plays a mysterous woman who has the key of the mystery. It sounds little gay because the protagonist of the movie is a tough female detective. Who knows?
