I don't remember any hot sex scene between Eliza and another woman. I remember two women going off to the bathroom in the store. I remember two women fucking on the bed in their apartment. I remember Eliza making the pizza guy take her up against the dresser. But nothing about Eliza and another girl.

Or it could just be me.

LOL Well, now I got two different opinions: two opposite ones. One kitten mentioned there was nothing new on the extra's on the DVD, and this poster tells us there is indeed an extra hot scene with Eliza... What to believe... Hmm... Go with the wishful thinking or... Blast ;)

Fans of the Scooby-Doo cartoon always have had their theories about its quirky gang of young detectives. And the big-screen Scooby-Doo — opening Friday — confirms many of 'em. Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.) is arrogant and pushy; Daphne (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is a snotty poser; and Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) literally sends up smoke signals about his pot-smoking penchant. Jinkies! Only popular speculations about Velma's sexual orientation are skirted.

Linda Cardellini — Velma herself — admits that an early version of the movie included broad hints that Velma is gay. "There were some interesting scenes that ended up having to go," the Freaks & Geeks grad tells TV Guide Online. "There was one scene where Velma sings and dances on a piano after she's had a few, um, special drinks. She sings 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You' — and we don't know if she's singing to Daphne or Fred!"

"We did kiss — it got cut," Gellar adds, referring to a lost moment between Velma and Daphne. "We hope they'll add it in the DVD." She's not kidding. A voodoo-related plot twist makes the girls switch bodies and... well, we'll let Gellar tell it. "Initially, in the soul-swapping scene, Velma and Daphne couldn't seem to get their souls back," she explains, "and so the way they found was to kiss, and their souls went back into their own bodies."

"It became a little risqué," Cardellini laughs. "[In another cut scene], Velma lifted her sweater and she's got something funny underneath. It was a 1940s style industrial bra, a Rosie the Riveter type of look."

Producers say the lesbian content was cut to keep Scooby-Doo "family friendly." The stars clearly are disappointed, even if they mask it with humor. Gellar jokes that her onscreen kiss with fiancé Prinze seemed anti-climactic after locking lips with Cardellini. Was she angling for another MTV Movie Award for best kiss? (She won back in 1999 for her same-sex smooch with Selma Blair in Cruel Intentions.) "Well, you know," she grins, "Linda is a great kisser." — Daniel R. Coleridge

Ah, rats... They just won't give us anything... :( Good to read, though, Sarah apparently got the hang of it... Selma's a good kisser, Linda's a good kisser... He, he, sweet. Here's hoping for the DVD :)

It got a 29% at rottentomatoes.com - that is, 29% of the reviews that the Tomatometer compiles said it was good, the rest say it was rotten.

I'd give my opinion, but they cut the only reason I'd consider shelling out 8 bucks...

Yeah, that sucks... :( Why does all the good stuff always gets cut ? /sigh/ The only reason I'll have to see the movie now, will be SMG.

Well I've just come back from watching it and while I wouldn't say it sucks it is definetly a kids movie, full stop. There is very little to draw in an older audience, save for the nostalgia of your cartoon watching days. Although I would have liked them to have left in the kiss, it would have actually occured when Fred was in Daphne's body and would have been played for a laugh I'm sure. But take what you can get I guess.

I didn't hate it but that probably had something to due with Ms. Gellar.

Perhaps I'm too picky. But "good stuff" for me does not involve watching SMG kiss another woman. Sorry.

Does that make me a bad person? ;)

LOL No, Ruth, not as long as you keep writing those superb smut-scenes (I'm in the middle of your sleep-over chapter :) ) I just can't help myself: I know Sarah doesn't possess the dazzling depth Amber and Aly do, but she's still such a cutie ;)

Adding: Good god, I turned into "Willowhand" ! /looks at hand admiringly/ Hmm... :)

Saw the movie yesterday with my niece. It is completely a kid's movie, as it should be. I thought it was odd that they would have a lesbian kiss in a kid's movie and was glad to hear it was cut. It would have just caused unnesessary controversy. Still, I did expect some subtext of the kind that would go over the heads of little kids. Not only was there none of that, there were pretty clear indications that Velma is straight. So kind of a disappointment there. I would have prefered it if they left that issue completely alone so that we could believe whatever we want to believe about Velma. I suppose we can still do that, but it is a little bit more difficult to do with the image of her giggling with that guy saying "You're fogging up my glasses!"

SMG's Daphne was just a whining irritating little idiot. She got on my last nerve. Noticed a strange thing though; I think her forearms are kind of hairy. The CGI Scobby was pretty good once the movie got going. Not scary at all. Freddie's Freddie looked weird. He needed to bleach his eyeballs, too, not just his hair and eyebrows. Why couldn't they just find a blond guy? The people who played Velma and Shaggy were really good though, especially the Shaggy guy (forgot his name). In the previews, it said that he would scream the night before shooting in order to get Shaggy's breathless voice right. He ended up with laryngitis, but it was worth it. He sounded perfect.

Matthew Lillard's the actor who plays Shaggy. He and SMG are good friends, who go way back, apparently. Read some good things about his performance... So no subtext either, hey... Pity. SMG with hairy forearms: well, I could have gone without that mental picture... LOL I still like her, but she does have the annoying habit of picking rather brainless characters in movies (except for Cruel Intentions: she sure nailed that role ;) ) BTW, be careful what you wish for: another blond guy... That hair kinda reminded me of Spike's hairdo, and James Marsters would be so wrong for that role.

Velma a lesbian?

Postby Still Waters Run Deep » Sun Jun 16, 2002 4:28 am

Velma a lesbian?

Who would have thought it.

Jeez, I remember seeing Scooby Do for the first time way back in......I dunno, but it must be around 30 years ago [when was it first aired in the UK?]

Anyway, I was an innocent and very naive youth then, and even to me at that time it was kinda obvious that Velma did'nt have the hots for either of the two lads.

So the producers have decided that because it was'nt spelled out in yard high letters at the time, they are not about to upset the apple cart now.

The fact that most of two or more generations of viewers have grown up with the feeling that Velma was'nt into men has apparently escaped them.

I was reading SMG's article on the EW. I got a real good idea why the whole lesbian thing was cut. I mean you take a movie like The Brady Bunch Movie and that was pretty risque with its plot. So I think originally they were aiming for that kind of camp, but this movie was made in conjunction with the Cartoon Network, I think then it became a movie targetted at kids and not teens so hence the change.

I saw it Friday. I really expected it to completely suck judging by the ads but it was moderately good, a 6/10. Velma and Shaggy were pretty good and the CGI Scooby was better than expected. I hated Prinze Jr. as Fred which I expected I would but I'm surprised how much I loathed SMG as Daphne. I'm not a big fan of SMG in general but until now I always liked the way she acted. She was great as Kendall in All my Children, Kathryn in Cruel Intentions, and I can't picture anyone else as Buffy but in this she just plain sucked. Some of it was the way they wrote her part but not all of it. Overall an OK movie but definitely some lazy writing and poor casting. I only paid $5.50 Cdn. to see it which is about right, definitely not worth full price admission.

Weekend estimates are up. Scooby Doo 56.42 mil , should be accurate to within a mil or 2 when the final numbers come out tomorrow.

Can you say "sequel"?

I guess the only thing left to see is whether the movie has legs or if it got 50% or more of its total gross on it's opening weekend. I can see alot of people going to see it out of curiosity and because of the hype but I can't see alot of repeat viewers for this.

PS. - Did anyone else who saw it think to themselves "Damn, Aly would have been a perfect Velma"? Even though Cardellini did a pretty good job.

Actually, I feel like Buttercup is the only Powerpuff Girl to develop a crush on anyone, and it was a boy. She liked the leader of the Gangreen Gang and didn't talk for like en entire episode because she was so smitten.

Plus, she's five, and she'll be even younger in the movie.

I just saw Scooby Doo and I thought it was cute. Shaggy and Velma were by far the best. I dunno about you guys but I DID see Velma subtext. It was very SUB though. Like when she was all "I just wanted to scare the patootie out of Daphne" and then she reached over and tickled Daphne, both me and my friend Kelly looked at each other and said, "mm-hmm." Then at the end EVERY couple kissed except for Velma and the guy, Velma just said that he was steaming up her glasses and she punched him, can you feel the love tonight? All in all I'm glad I got to see it, and especially glad I got to see it for free via a movie pass from work.

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue, I could not foresee this thing happening to you.

Here's Variety's take on Scoobie's Box Office Success:

Quote:
Groovy Scooby's bow wows

Hip hound puts B.O. bite on 'Windtalkers'

By Carl Diorio

Warner Bros.' live-action adaptation of the long-running TV cartoon led a hungry box office pack this weekend, scooping up a June-record $56.4 million in estimated opening grosses. Perf pointed not only to strong family-laffer appeal of the rambunctious dog and his two-legged cronies but also auds' continuing enthusiasm for many breeds of pics.

* * *

'Scooby' sequel up

Warners has already committed to a "Scooby" sequel for release in 2004, he revealed. "The franchise is beginning," Fellman declared.

Franchise, which flexes considerable merchandising muscle as well as B.O. clout, also offers good TV synergy with parent AOL Time Warners' Cartoon Network. "Scooby" follows the exploits of a youthful band of sleuths and their goofy canine compatriot, depicted by computer-generated imaging in the movie.

Details about second "Scooby" pic were unavailable. Raja Gosnell ("Big Momma's House";) helmed the original, with Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar figuring prominently in a young ensemble cast.

Boffo bow exceeds month's previous biggest-ever opening, the $54.9 million debut in June 1999 of New Line's "Austin Powers 2."

Something tells me SMG's price for sticking around to do an 8th season of BtVS just got a lot higher.
