I've seen many a Lifetime Movie, and I have to say that this is among the worst ever made, but I attribute it to poor directing, editing and stylistic choices than to the acting. The actors were wonderful. But I felt that the story was all over the place. They were trying to tell too many stories within two hours--divorce, becoming a lesbian, adjusting to new family situations, death--and it bogged down the entire movie. It began so oddly--"Okay, honey, so you're saying we should get a divorce. Fine. Let me find a place." And that was it. It was strange and it didn't feel natural. And then the lesbian relationship came into play, and while the actresses did their part to convey real emotion, the direction seemed off. For example, they had already had sex but they were acting like strangers. They hardly touched, they didn't sit near one another, and they generally avoided eye contact. It seemed too strained. Then the heavy-handed PSA at the end of the movie just added to the general "huh?" about the entire movie. I didn't walk away feeling like I learned a damn thing about anything, so I really did feel the PSA was completely out of place. All in all, I felt that "The Truth About Jane" far eclipsed this movie in terms of message and follow-through of that message. Also, Stockard Channing in any movie is a big PLUS in my department. In any case, these are just my thoughts.
