Hey I thought you guys might want to know that the KROQ interview never happened. They've been posting retractions everywhere so I pulled the one off of Spoilerfix.com:

We have removed a season two spoiler about an interview JJ supposedly did on KROQ radio in LA. The statements in that post were not true (and never stated by JJ) according to Lost's publicist. That particular spoiler should not be republished anywhere.

So good news there.

Thanks, it was a vicious rumor after all. Makes the most sense, it would have been highly unprofessional to reveal a cast member being unhappy with their contract and saying that their character might be killed off as some round about way of threatening them to play nice.

If all we get to see of Fox is his right arm then that will still be too much. Please please please do not let the two most attractive women on that island be fighting over that whiny egotistical snot. Oh and horrible picture btw, an absolute eyesore. Why is she leaning on that other woman´s knee when there is a manly man nearby. For shame.

ETA: I just ordered the first season on DVD at Amazon.com
I never ordered a DVD online before, so I am not sure how much it is going to cost me in the end, but even with the obscene amounts of tax I will probably have to pay for the measly 38 dollars it costs, I should still save a bundle compared to buying it in a store or ordering it via Amazon.co.uk. For some odd reason there the first 12 eps cost 25 pounds. I guess they are not selling the complete season here yet because some European countries, such as mine, are a year behind in showing the damn thing on TV. Anyway, I have a regionfree DVD player so I can watch the US version as well. I am looking forward to the extra´s. I understand the auditions are on it as well, that might be amusing.

CONGRATS, LOST: EMMY FOR BEST DRAMA!!!

GG Naveen Andrews or Terry O'Quinn should have won for Best Supporting Actor, though: not lame-o William Shatner Out

I'm also sorry that the scene, during the show, of the whole cast on stage (for the Best Drama win) were so brief: blink and you missed 'em( guess I'll have to check the usual online sources for pics)

I like William Shatner, he has a good sense of humor I think, not afraid to make fun of himself, but whether he should win an award I don´t know. I have not seen him in anything other than the Ms Congenialities aside from Star Trek. I missed the actual award ceremony, but I did catch most of the red carpet stuff and some silly lists on E entertainment, hot guys and girls being one of those lists. Sawyer was number one and no Dr Jack in the list, that made me oddly happy.

But the biggest puzzle the producers of "Lost" face as they enter their second season this Wednesday may well be how to avoid alienating the audience that has made it one of ABC's first water-cooler hit dramas in more than a decade.

The creators of shows like "Lost" - serialized dramas steeped in their own elaborate mythologies - face a dilemma. Audiences compulsively desire, even demand, answers. But reveal too much, too soon, and they might just bolt, as "Twin Peaks" discovered in the early 1990's.Or dole out only tiny hints about how the pieces fit together, and viewer obsession can curdle into frustration or even disdain, as happened in the latter years of "The X-Files."
The X-files shadow continues to be long on these sorts of "serialized dramas".

How awesome was the Lost premiere last night? I loved it!

I hope that since the episode has aired, that I don't need to use the spoiler tag, but FYI in case someone has taped or Tivo'd it and not watched it yet: In this post I'm discussing specific events from the premiere, so don't read if you haven't watched it yet!

The plot just gets thicker and thicker. I'm so glad they didn't drag out getting into the hatch and finding out who is there, and how weird was it that the guy in the hatch was the same one who was chatting up Jack years earlier when they were running the stairs in the stadium?

Also, on the realism front - I know that Locke was anxious to get into the hatch, but again - how crazy does a person have to be to not wait three hours for daylight so they don't have to make someone else climb a cable down a really dark, 40-foot hole with only a flashlight, which they are bound to drop? How crazy are all of them? I was scared just watching them.

Where is Kate, is she dead? Was that really Walt or just a hallucination? Will I be able to survive till next week's episode with all these unanswered questions? The suspense is really suspenseful. This is one of my favorite shows.

Sally McF, I like to watch many shows w/ the closed-captions on.

With that, I learned something that I might not have noticed, without it:
Spoiler:
when Jack emerged into "the Computer Room" at the bottom of the hatch, there was a faint (faint, because muffled by distance and/or barriers) yelling of Kate: "Jack! Jack!" So Kate is definitely alive.

GG If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: please, "Lost" producers, don't EVER show Vincent in danger. This Lab-lover can't take it! :paranoid Out

I have no doubts Walt is alive. More mysterious, is exactly what Shannon saw: was that really Walt? A projection from Walt? A projection from The Others? Or just Shannon's guilty conscience (playing delusional tricks on her), at losing Walt's dog?

Ack: could we please have less Jack? :happy And more, say, Sun? Not to mention Michelle R (without) Jack? Not to mention Kate without Jack, too?

I was really impressed with the premiere ep, and even Jack didn't annoy me as much as usual - so he was maybe a 95 out of 100 this week instead of his usual 99. Locke is really starting to bother me though, how dare he make Kate go down there first? I don't care how logical that may have seemed to him, it was unpardonable since she was only there to back him up, not to take a lead role in his lunatic mission. I expect that was some sort of sending from Walt that Shannon saw, Walt is most likely still with the boat-people who may or may not be the Others, or one of the Others the way things are looking. Sigh. Still a lot we don't know, but this was a fun excitng ep.

I was not real hot on the episode and yes my jack hate overwhelmed everything, mr. i'll play god whenever I feel like it. His stupid hairdo in the flashbacks. And we got nothing of the people on the boat, that was a disapointment. Less jack, more everyone else.

I didn't mind Kate going down there first because it proves what we all know, she's the bravest of them all.

The other thing I did was download Mama Cass' Make your own kind of music! wooo hooo, bring the sixties back man!

Way too much Jack for me to really enjoy this episode. I so do not care about his past, present and future. His weepy face made me want to hurl and then hurl something at the screen as well. The way in which he dismissed Hurley´s story about the numbers just proves jet again what a self centered asshole he is. Nothing about what has happened to them is natural or normal. Jack has seen his dead father and followed him around, but when someone else experiences something mysterious and seemingly supernatural they are either crazy or hysterical.

Enough about him, I liked Hurley as usual, he tells it like it is. Kate was cool and yummie as ever though I´d wish she´d stop sticking feathers up Jack´s ass. There isn´t any room as he has stored his brain in there. Locke remains a puzzle, but I still trust him. I hope next week they will focus on everyone else more, I don´t really like it when the whole episode revolves around one person, well unless maybe it is Kate, who of course is not dead. If they are going to kill anyone off this year I seriously doubt it would be her.
We did not learn much that we could not have guessed. A weird crazy person being down that hatch does not suprise me, but I am curious enough to want to find out how he got there and very much looking forward to the next episode.

Dr G, I had preordered my Lost S1 DVDs from Amazon.com too, and I got them without any taxes, and in 8 days. My mom told me I had a package, and I was like "no way, can't be Lost, it just came out!" but surely enough, it was. Hope you have that kind of luck with the shipping. :D

It has not arrived yet, I could be as late as half october according to the shipping info. I decided against paying more to get it here sooner. As for taxes, I am pretty sure I will have to pay them before I can collect the DVD, I live in the Netherlands you see. Collecting taxes is the one thing this government is fast at.

Yeah, but look at all you get for those taxes:

1. A dike system that actually works (cf. New Orleans)
2. A full-coverage unemployment system
3. A full-coverage health care system.

No wonder your benefits are commonly referred to here as "The Dutch Treat"! :-D Would you really wanna trade your government for say George "Dubya"? :lol

Well we had a pretty decent number 3, but I am not sure what we will be left with after the changes our disgusting minister of health has made go into effect, but other than that you have fair points. We have a total dork for prime minister, but I always console myself with the thought that he is not George Bush, so no, I would not trade. You can keep him. :p

Next week looks eventful. This week not so much. We´d already done the tortured daddy bit. Nothing new about Michael´s back story. Yeah he lost his son once, gave him up being all noble and shit and now he lost him again. Got it. Again and again and again. It does not help much that he is tied with Charlie as my least favorite boy toy after Jack. Oh and who would have thought that Charlie would have taken a statue? I have been lying awake all summer wondering and worrying whether he had done so. I am shocked I tell you, absolutely shocked. Well now all we need is a Charlie flashback episode and we will have had the three most annoying, boring and boring people out of the way and we can focus on the other interesting people they can be telling more stories about like Kate, Jin, Sun, Locke, Hurley, Sawyer, the one with satan´s son who´s name I keep forgetting, Sayid and even our somewhat French speaking pissy rich bitch cheerleader girl. So basically anyone other than Jack, Michael and Charlie I will gladly watch on screen.

Anyway, I was amused that Kate stopped to take a bite of chocolate and stuff some candy bars down her pants. That girl has got her priorities straight. One good thing about blowing up that hatch, they stumbled into a regular little supermarket down there. Too bad that psycho weird guy is part of the deal, but next week we get at least one other fine addition as compensation. I may sound a bit more negative than I feel, I do love this show, other than my least favorite threesome I love almost everything about it. I am definitely looking forward to next week.

Kate stopping to enjoy some chocolate and then grabbing some more bars for later was my favorite moment of the show. Gotta love Kate.

Not much Jack indeed, and I'm glad it's just not me that thinks Walt's dad is kind of a dull character. I think the problem with these first few ep's is that they have split everyone up for now, so they have to follow a few different storylines and characters at once, never easy especially in a one hour (minus commercials) tv show. They will get around to everybody eventually. Let's hope they take their sweet time getting back to Jack.I think we'll finally see Michelle Rodriguez next week, that should be good.

I noticed they are doing some sort of reverse storytelling that they did not do last year as far as I can recall (or maybe they did but it did not bother me then as it did now so it did not register on my radar). Last week Jack went down the hatch and now they showed what happened before that. It feels like they hastened to get Jack down the hatch in the previous episode to see that guy so we would remember he was the same guy we saw in Jack´s stupid flashback. As if we would have forgotten that if they had showed him this week instead.

I am not sure I like this way of telling the story. It is different from the flashbacks which tells us stuff about what kind of people they were before they got on the plane. This way there was no tension to the story about how Locke or Kate got captured, we already knew that happened because we saw Locke with a gun to his head last week (ok we did not know Kate was in the airshaft, but I still feel it would have been more exciting or whatever, if they showed these events in the right order).

This week the episode ended with Sawyer and Michael washing ashore in the morning and Jin running towards them. I wonder if next week they are going to show how Jin got captured and escaped. If they do, that won´t be really exciting either because we know he got captured and then escaped. We will also get a backpedal to what happens with Jack, Locke and Kate because they certainly won´t have been standing gaping at each other till sunrise. I´d prefer it if they continue to tell the story on the island in chronological order and keep the flashback as they were and not mix everything up.

Good news - we went away on vacation to Scotland to visit my relatives.

Bad news - we were away when the first two episodes of Lost aired this season.

Good news - I got to watch both episodes this morning! It was nice not having to worry about Kate for too long. And yes, that candy bar scene was great. I think eating chocolate is a perfectly reasonable response to a dire situation. I also liked the way Kate got out of her restraints. I think she may have done that before. Locke probablyl guessed she'd be able to break out if he just slipped her a knife.

Just one note on Jack - when he was in the ER with the future almost-Mrs Jack, they brought in the driver of the other vehicle. Sometime between then and when he died you could hear someone saying his name. It was Rutherford. Shannan's last name is Rutherford. (insert Twilight Zone music here).

When Kate pointed out the word "Quarantine" on the hatch I was thinking, wait a minute. That word has to have been printed on the inside of the hatch. The hatch was locked from the inside. It's the outside that's quarantined.

I wonder if Desmond was a member of Rousseau's crew? He did ask about the Lost folks getting sick. Probably not, but by the insignia that appears on his clothes and in his subterranean quarters he was part of some group.

I do love this show!

I've checked out the new batch of sci fi/otherworldly programs that the other networks have come up with this season. I'm not impressed with Surface or Invasion. Threshold and Supernatural are pretty good. Neither are as good as Lost, however. At least not so far.

That is an amazing catch, very perceptive of you. Very little on this show is a coincidence and this surely can´t be one. I have to rewatch it, Jack chose not to turn his immediate attention to that guy and he died right? Must rewatch that even if it means suffering through a Jack scene.

Now that's the mark of a true fan - rewatching a Jack scene.

Please do reward yourself afterwards. Perhaps with a bar of chocolate? Or maybe a nice glass of Chimay ale. You will have earned it.

You made me watch that again damn you, no reward can undo the damage of this experience. :cry
I did not rant about that scene the first time around because I would not know where to begin. Just pulling that ragged thing (without any idea how deep it is in, whether it is plugging the hole in heart or aorta and is all that is keeping her from bleeding to death) out of her chest like that, yeah, as if. No one else besides Jack being able to intubate a man, yeah right, as if.
Anyway, the guy´s name was Rutherford, 57 I believe, and Jack chose not to go straight to him and he died. Seeing as Shannon nearly killed Locke over what happened to her incestuous step brother, I wonder what she will do if she finds out about this and that man really was her father.
